Prayer vs. Medicine: Should a Wisconsin couple be prosecuted for the death for their daughter, after they refused to bring her to a doctor, and relied on prayer instead?
Comment: I believe that God gave doctors the necessary skills and put them here to help him heal. The poor girl suffered for a month for a disease that is manageable and she could have lived a long a healthy life. from Navarre by Geri
Comment: True religious beliefs cannot be challenged with these parents. If they do not have conviction enough to rely on their God to heal their daughter (if it was their God's will), how can they rely on the eternity that will await them after they (the parents) die? If there is doubt with one, there is doubt with the other. I personally do not agree with their decision. I believe doctors operate under divine guidance and offer the healing power given to us through knowledge given to them. Wish this could have turned out different for the child. from Crestview, Fl by Tony
Comment: Im sorry, this couple needs to be held in account of the death of that child.God did leave each of us common sense, and even if a minister had told me not to seek medical treatment for my child, i would have relied on plain old common sense, and soon look for me another church, from pensacola fla by vicky
Comment: Yes, they should be charged with manslaughter, they killed their daughter. She was a minor and could not seek help on her own or go against her parents wishes. What chance did she have with parents such as that? If you believe in God, why do you think he gave us medicine and doctors?? from Pensacola FL by Steven
Comment: Yes the parents should be charged with murder. Not only was their daughter a dependent child, who relied on her parents for well being and care.. but God gave man kind the knowledge to treat the human race in the medical field. from Gulf Shores,Al by Rachel
Comment: If an adult chooses to drive drunk, has an accident and kills his child, he can be charged , tried and convicted. What's the difference. I believe in God too! from Miltom, Fl. by L> T.
Comment: Yes the parents should be responsible. That child suffered. I raised a child with type one diabetes.
I had no insurance at times but always got her medicine. My daughter is 23 now and I am for universal health care.
I wonder why the minister did not ask if the child was receiving care from a doctor.
If the parents would have told him no than he could have notified Family and Children Servicies. Juvinile diabetes is different from adult type two it can kill fast if untreated.
The parents should be charged with a crime!! And children with type one diabetes should be able to get medical help after they turn 18 because no insurance will pick them up! I hope the repulicans hear this!
My daughter works full time and it takes most of her money for her care. She has had diabetes since she was 6 with proper care she can live a good life. It is sad no adult was knowledgeable to know that type one diabetes can kill. Carlene Kennington

Comment: The family believed in God to heal their daughter so they shouldn`t be prosecuted for their beliefs from Milton,FL by Zach
Comment: these religious nuts needs to be prosecuted! i really don't care if they do that for themselves but to do this on their own child? that is the ultimate form of child neglect! and wanton behavior! from p'cola by h
Comment: God gives us our children to take care of, they are God's children entrusted to us while they are here. He also give the doctors the knowledge to help them when it is needed. While we should always pray for God's help and healing for our children when they are sick we should also take whatever means necessary to care for them. If it is God's Will to heal them, He will, regardless of what a doctor says. God also gives us the common sense to do what's right! from Flomaton, AL by Alisa
Comment: Yes. At the very least, I say they are guilty of "negligent manslaughter". Religious persuasion aside, I think the Lord put us all down here to see how well we interact with one another. He gave us all "gray matter" to use other than a hat rack. Knowing that medical science is available and willing to assist, there is NO EXCUSE for letting another human die before your eyes. from Mary Esther,FL. by Tom
Comment: First, please do not judge all Christians by this story. I am a Christian and I believe strongly in prayer. But I also believe God gives us common sense and we should use it. If my child is sick I am going to do every thing I can to make sure she gets the treatment she needs. That includes taking her to the doctor and prayer. from pace by joannie
Comment: Both parents should be prosecuted and the Pensacola mininster should be charged as a co-conspirator too. from Niceville by Fred
Comment: These parents could of brought their daughter to a doctor but what if that doctor couldn`t have helped her then the prayer of God could`ve helped them from Milton,Florida by Zachary
Comment: Most of the worlds atrocities have been due to religious beliefs maybe we could have prevented most of these if we used our brains God gave us. from Milton,Fl by Colleen
Comment: Yes. There are alot of people, like the Jehovah Witness faith they do not take blood products, if a Jehovah Witness refused to allow their child to be saved by witholding life saving blood products would they also be tried and found guilty of manslaughter? Those people followed their religious beliefs and I think it would be opening a can of worms trying to prosecute them. Religious rights and the laws again involved. I'm sure they are loving caring people who are religious to the point of "NO" common sense at least in this area, I mean really who allows an innocent to suffer, certainly not GOD! from Pensacola by Dianna
Comment: I personnally think it's silly to refuse help that could possibly help. However, they believe that God will heal or not heal according to his will. They must also believe that only God,nothing else, will make any difference. Only if a doctor could give a 100% guarantee that the treatment would save the childs life should the parents be punished. Since they can't, it comes down to who you have more faith in. from Crestview, Fl by Kevin
Comment: They should not be prosecuted for believing in God to heal and save their child. If more of us handed over the reigns and realized that God is always in control. Yes God gave man the knowledge to heal he also gave man free will. It's up to man to decide whether to trust in his belief and faith in God, or to put that trust into the hands of man. They are grieving parents just like any other. They need our Prayers and Support. It is not for us to judge...that is God's job. We are to Love and Forgive our neighbors. from Milton by Debera
Comment: Parents are given these little bundles of joy that are gifts from God Almighty HE has entrusted them to our care. God is in control of this situation and it is not for us to deliver sentence in this case. When you stand in front of God on your judgement day it is Him you have to answer too. My God is a loving God and because of the sacrifice His Son Jesus Christ made by dying for the sins of man HE is a just and forgiving God.When you place your trust and faith in God we aren't suppose to know why tragic things happen...we're to only know that God's hands are there holding us through it. Prayer can move mountains and anything is possible with prayer as long as it is God's will and NOT sinful man's will!! God can raise the dead and has BUT it must be HIS will. When we pray we are supposed to pray that it be His will that is done on earth as in Heaven. from MILTON by Debra
