Double dipping: Should the law that allows some state employees to collect retirement benefits, and a full salary at the same time, be removed?

52% Yes
44% No

Comment: just as it implies, "it's double pay" i wonder if they'd allow social security to pay both disability pay and regular ss retirement?? i wonder from crestview, fl by sunny

Comment: I don't think they should keep on working ,If they can retire they should do so, they are taking a job that some one else could be doing . from Pensacola ,FL. by Robert

Comment: This subject is just trying to fuel the fires of jealous people. The 30 year retiree was expert in his skill. The state can re-hire an expert or, start over with a trainee replacement. Either way, someone will fill the position. Re-hire the expert. from Niceville by Fred

Comment: No! There are many that I know that are currently holding positions such as this. I do not believe that this is fair to the rest of us who are trying to advance in certain positions on our jobs that they are being allowed to "come back" and fill or to prospective employees that simply want a chance to enter into the workforce. Also, I have personally heard some local administrators that had retired and the educational system turned around and hired them right back, discuss how they see this as the “easiest money they had ever made”!!!@ This is not fair to us as taxpayers. from Pensacola, FL by Johnnie

Comment: Just how fair is this to some of us who have worked all their life, and do not have as much as, say that teacher, I would love to try to live on 2,000.00 dollars a month, as compared to 877.00 a month, I am 73 yrs old and have a 74 yr old husband who HAS to work to try to make ends meet, and he also pays taxes and social security out of his pay as well, God help me if anything happens to him, I am also handicapped, and have 2 doctors letters stating that I cannot work, and I cannot draw any disability, as I was told I would be double dipping, Just what are they doing?? but that!! NO it is not right. or fair, give up her or his retirement or job. I am in dire need of a stove too, mine blew up Christmas day, thank you, I pay taxes like anyone else, and I am tired of doing without to pay the well off.d27nhp4 from Crestview, Fla. by Alice

Comment: YES,YES,YES!!!!!! from Crestview, Fla by Jennie

Comment: the money needs to go to other needs in county, state and country from pensacola,fl by bj

Comment: Retireing and coming back at the low end of the pay sacle and advance the ones towards the high end would save money, maybe?? by Bob

Comment: They have time in for retirement. And, the state rehires the best quailified for the job. A win win. What if they just retire and take their knowlege to other employment. Who would be the losers? from pace by tony

Comment: I think it is won't and it's not fair to the economy. They are cuting back on services that are needed and at the end of the day it's because of loop holes such as this that sends state money spiraling out of control. from Cantonment, FL by Rochelle

Comment: Yes, they earned their retirement. by jan

Comment: Yes. If the federal government can discourage the practice, then what is wrong with the state of Florida following suit? There is such a thing as too much money--put another way, greed begets more greed.Let's eliminate one of the deadly sins (greed) and put our money to more useful purposes, i.e., getting out of debt. from Mary Esther, FL. by Tom

Comment: This a prime example of corruption. Smoke and morror corruption. The state saves money when out with the old at top pay and in with the new at minimum pay. from Orlando FL by Bill

Comment: i'm very surprised at the response in this "military" town...those in the federal government jobs "double-dip" all the time. if this sort of negative response is applicable to state workers, then it whould apply to all and at every level of government. from p'cola by h

Comment: Not no, but HELL no!! from Pensacola, FL by JRoAnne

Comment: got it wrong, shoulda read it better. from Pensacola, FL by JRoAnne

Comment: I know of no company that allows employees to retire and come back in their old job and receive thae same pay. Many older workers feel that they cannot be replaced. from pensacola/fl by robert

Comment: I know of no company that allows employees to retire and come back in their old job and receive thae same pay. Many older workers feel that they cannot be replaced. from pensacola/fl by robert

Comment: Retiring after an honorable government service is a right given to every citizen, but the retirement pay is always not enough for anybody to survive on. In most of the situations, reemployment is a must. In the military, somebody retires and then gets hired as a civilian employee with same or higher salary at the same work he did. Is that wrong? no, it is practical and economic since cost of retraining is nil. Now, is the state wasting money? yes, it's wasting $0.00. Try to enter that wastage in the red column. People that says yes to the law are the jealous ones who has no fortitude to stay employed for 30 plus continuous years. from Milton, Fl by Abe

Comment: AS a disabled person who cant find the help he DESPERATELY NEEDS. and with the Budget crisis affecting programs. I thinks its criminally insane to expect to draw a full salary AND retirement benefits NO WONDER the state turns down thousands of disabled with no where else to turn. Im Still wondering how to stay in my house. and pay my bills. Im still stuck in a wheelchair and have a bad heart to boot. What do I do? I am Currently HOPELESS, ABANDONED and DISCARDED with the rest of the TRASH. from Pensacola/FL by Paul

Comment: The law should be changed. Retirement benefits are designed to give workers an income when they are no longer able to work, not as extra income while they are working. This behavior of 'double dipping' only instills selfishness and disreguard for Laws in general, which are designed to safeguard all peoples, and not just a few. from Milton, FL. by Deborah
