The county does not need to cut its budget |

Comment: start at the top.
combine jobs at the top where the salary is high but productivity is not equal to pay.
i want my taxes to pay for jobs that matter. employees that are not management are the brick and mortar of any governmental institution and that is where i want the money to go.
most trips here and there are not feasible. there are other things that can be done then taking a trip somewhere (possibly embarrassing yourself by getting a dui).
i dont think city and county should be together because expectation is different. apples and oranges.
so many things not enough time. thanks - taylor from pensacola by k
Comment: Start at the top by cutting the exorbitant salaries of county administrators, commisioners, etc. They should not be working in a public service job and earning a salary that exceeds the average median income of their constituents. Why should a commisioner be paid in excess of $80,000.00/yr when the people in the county average around $30,000.00? The pay scale the upper county employees have is based on comparable salaries of other counties in Florida, many of which have alot higher per-capita income than Escambia, and a wider tax base. This has the net effect of paying them salaries commensurate for a position in Dade county; when they work load and tax base is much smaller here. The housing price increases which fueled the coffers for years have been proven to be artificially inflated, and the salaried of upper county employees have matched that artificial inflation. Get them back down to where they belong!! from Cantonment/Fl by Mike
Comment: I think that the sheriffs department could be downsized easily. Also, put patrol officers on motorcycles, foot, and or bicycles. This would save plenty of gas and vehicle maintenance.
I live in the avondale area where speeding and loud music seem to be the norm. Maybe with these suggestions they would notice the problems first-hand. from Pensacola, Florida by Richard
Comment: Cut each commissioners salary. Cut some of their personal staff. Downsize the voting office. I was in there for early election and there were about 35 employees doing nothing.Don't let Deputies use the County owned cars be used by the Deputies to work their moonlighting jobs, like credit unions, directing traffic off duty on Sunday at Liberty Church, and Marcus Point. They should use their personal vehicles for that. The IRS ruled that was illegal over 25 years ago. Tell Ron McNesby that. I won't vote for him again. They could make a fortune in revenues for the county if they would write an occasional traffic citation. I was in law enforcement 45 years and our Sheriff's Dept is pathetic. from Pensacola by James

Comment: We should start with the Sheriff Department. Sell the extra Helicopter and give ground troops more pay raises and cut sheriff salary. We have had to much waste too long. Selling personal protection to residence is illegal when they are paying for it already. from Pensacola, Fl by Elton
Comment: It should start with the sheriffs dept.with over an eighty million dollar budget.the sheriff should cut back on all the top heavy employees that he campaigned to get rid of. Instead he has chosen to bring more on board at outrageous pay and then gives them a 40% to 60% pay increase a year later.so I believe the Sheriff should be the first to cut his budget

Comment: by having its older workers retire, getting parents of children pay more for the educational system. modernization of the infrastructure of the county/city. i could go on and on.... from p'cola by h
Comment: the county and city could cut cost by employees not taking company vehicles home. This would save tons of money in maintenance and fuel. Think about it.How many county employees realy respond during the night to things? why do the deputies and police officers take their vehicles home and the firemen and ambulance workers not take theirs? from molino, fl by jane q
Comment: As part of their punish-
ment have prisoners repay the
county a portion of incarcer-
ation expenses. Have those
who live in public housing be
responsible for maintenance
procedures and cleanup. The
price of previously free meals
would be to turn in a bag of
trash. A quick, low-cost clean
up. from Pensacola, Florida by Robin
Comment: I think non-sworn employees of the sheriff's office such as secretaries should not be provided take home cars. This is an area as many others that should be cut from tax payers pockets. You might want to look in to this fraud, waste and abuse by our officials. from pensacola, fl by concerned
Comment: Maybe if the "honest" county administrator(s) and commisioner(s) would realize that they have an inflated paycheck from the tax payers pockets, they would do the responsible thing by cutting their pockets back like we the citizens are doing. I believe getting 25k to 30k would be a reasonalbe salary for them but not what they are getting paid now. I say "we" the citizens tell them what they should get paid and not let them vote on their own salary. I would also make the sheriff's traffic unit write more tickets instead of doing mostly nothing 7 hours out of the day. There are too many deaths and accidents caused by the lack of "traffic enforcement" in this county. from pensacola, fl by Skip
