| 25.8% | Yes | |
| 74.19% | No |
Comment: I beleive any local seafood sold should be displayed as such....it hasn't been long enough...just look at the checkered past of cover up along the coast. No Thanks. from Molino by john
Comment: 30 years ago, the largest oil spill in the Gulf history was along the Mexican shores. Even today, their shellfish are oily....so no, I don't think our seafood is safe. I believe they are saying it's ok for the sake of the economy. from Crestview, fl by Karen
Comment: I find it hard to believe that seafood in all affected areas is afe at this time. Not enough is known about oil effects on the bottm floor of these waters. from Molino, FL by Marjorie
Comment: It is too soon to judge whether the gulf fish is safe to eat at this time. There was too much toxic in the waters and I for one will not eat it at this time. Nor will I go near the beaches. Its in the air as well. from Pensacola, Fl by Sandra
Comment: I do believe the fish are safe to eat now because if they were sick or in danger they would die or wash ashore in big numbers. So far, they have not done that. from Pensacola, FL by Lynne
Comment: I can't believe that anyone would put anything IN their mouth from the GULF IF YOU BELIEVE OUT GOVERMENT THEN HAVE MERCERY ON YOU. from cantonment by sharron
Comment: It's going to take a while for the oil to decompose. The sea life has been eating food that has oil on it therefore the seafood will have some oil residue in it. from Crestview, FL by Daniel
Comment: No, because they have not tested the sea life for the dispersant used for the oil spill. They have not come up with a way to test for dispersant in the fish and shell fish in the gulf, This is a proven fact . as we know the government has lied to us a numerous times about other things so why believe them now that the fish is safe to use. The waters may not even be safe to swim in from Pensacola, Florida by Chuck
Comment: I just do not see how seafood swimming around in toxins from the oil and from dispersents could possibly be safe to eat. I'm a cancer surivor and don't want to chance eating something that could be contaminated with cancer causing carcinogens. And I certainly don't want my children eating it! from Pensacola, FL by Hale
Comment: The federal waters are closed and the state waters just reopened. If the fish were not safe to eat last week, why would they be safe this week? from Destin by Mahlon
Comment: The millions of gallons of "dispersed" oil lurking under the surface concerns me. They should have not used chemical dispersants so the oil could come to the surface to be collected or burned. "Out of sight...On the plate" may be the new cliche'. from Mobile, AL by Jim
Comment: We need to stop the "Litagator/Sue Them All for every adn any issue" mentalitay and use our own noses, tste, adn common sense in selecting and eating seafood.... I personally live it and am ready to shop any of our local seafood stores for shrimp, crab, fish, oysters and all the rest! from Milton/FL by Robert
Comment: no seafood is not safe i have seen the oil it is under the sand and tar balls till that is gone for a long time all clear i will not eat from pensacola florida by karen
Comment: As a fishing captain I cannot recommend for anyone to eat the seafood caught in the Gulf of Mexico from Texas to Florida from Mobile, Al by Jimmy
Comment: With all the chemicals BP used and the amount of oil leaked out and not recovered I would not eat it from Milton,Fl by Daniel
Comment: HELL NO - I had BP representatives on my boat who took water samples and used electronic hydrocarbon probes - the probes said there was over 200ppm hydrocarbons in clear clean seawaters - I'd never eat anything from the Gulf of Mexico - do I need to spell T-O-X-I-C? from Mobile AL by Duane
Comment: The key word is food chain.Smaller fish[ fry]have been observed eating droplets of oil as food.In turn some of these smaller fish will be eaten by larger fish.Have any tests taken place on how toxic this oil is?acould it maybe cause cancer in years to come? There still is a lot of oil on the bottom. I sold most of my fishing equipment and will not fish for fish to eat.Ask the professional fishermen not BP. from PENSACOLA,FL. by DONALD
Comment: Leave it up to the fishermen. They know better than we do. from Pensacola, Fl. by Frank
Comment: Too many gallons of spilled oil are still unaccounted for, too many are in the water column, and too much oil coats the bottom of the Gulf. We cannot know the long range effects on seafood or on anyone exposed to the water. I will not eat Gulf seafood, not that I do not want to support our fishermen, but because it is not safe. Look at the effects still ongoing from the Exxon Valdez all those years ago. Research that spill, which was several times smaller than this nightmare caused by BP, and the horrors unfold. That area has not recovered. It is not the same as before the spill. Numerous species of sea life are still affected and some have disappeared, perhaps forever. BP and government agencies want us to think that if we cannot see it, the oil must be gone. When has BP told us one single thing that did not later prove to be an outright lie? Rough waves from the current tropical system have been depositing oil on Alabama beaches since last week. Dig deep enough below that clean top layer of sand on any of our local beaches and several layers of oil will be uncovered. The Gulf and our coast will never be the same as it was, no matter what BP spokespeople or Obama promises. from Milton, Fl. by Barbara
Comment: Only the live ones- no floaters! from Pensacola,FL by Flower
Comment: It's too early to tell what is going on. They can't posibbly test every shrimp or fish caught, and they can't guarantee that each is safe without testing. from Gulf Shores, Al by Nan
Comment: If you live here yo can see better from Navarre Florida by Norma
Comment: Perhaps the fish is safe. But, I will hold out on eating some of my third favorite dish until a lot more testing has been accomplished. from Navarre, Fl by HB
Comment: There seem to be to many locals that are seeing oil or fish tainted with oil to believe gulf seafoo is safe to eat - I trust the local fishermen more than I trust the government. from Navarre/Florida by Janet
Comment: nope! until every fish caught is tested and deemed to be pre-oil disaster levels...it is not safe...remember EVERYTHING goes up the food chain... from pcola fl by h
Comment: A lot safer than those caught in Bayou Texar! from Pensacola/FL by J.
Comment: The government always covers things up. The shrimpers say different. from Pensacola/FL by Leonard
Comment: I do NOT believe Gulf seafood is safe. I believe we are being lied to about the safety of the seafood especially when there IS oil on them. from Milton, FL by Carol
Comment: Eating fish out of The Gulf couldnt possibly be any worse than walking around in a smog covered city from Pensacola, Fl by David
Comment: I don't believe that for a minute. Anything that lives in the waters of the Gulf, has got to be affected. The exact extent, I nor anyone else can yet say definitively. I do know that with the sheer amount of oil that has been loosed out there, it has got to be somewhere. The bottom feeding fish are my best guess. from Mary Esther, FL. by Tom
Comment: I am already eating gulf seafood from panama city florida by eugene
Comment: Yes, with caution. Once cooked I'd smell it. Any unfamiliar smell would negate my hunger. from Gulf Breeze/FL by Don
Comment: No...nothing is safe yet! It is sad that our government is saying otherwise. I just went to Johnson's beach this weekend and a BP worker made it a point to tell me and my family to scrub well with soap and baby oil when we got home. I just have to shake my head...politicians are so blind by their greed that they will do anything to fool the American people beyond the Gulf region...but, WE KNOW BETTER!!!! from Pensacola by John
Comment: NO way. I thank God for ppl like Joe Patti who are giving us the option to make our own decision. I wonder who is going to buy the seafood being caught in oiled waters opened by the govt. ...and worse, who's eating it?? from PNS, FL by Trish
Comment: It's too soon to say that seafood is safe to eat. The spill only began four months ago. from Pensacola by Leo
Comment: Absolutely not safe. Not only are there concerns about oil to seafood but also emulsifiers used in the Gulf waters by BP. from Pensacola, Florida by Frank
Comment: Not only NO, but HELL NO. and those shrimp over there in Louisiana, they may no SMELL poluted with petroleum, but i guarantee they are. from pensacola by georgia
Comment: I've worked at different processing plants in several states and if the Goverment inspectors checking the sea life in the Gulf are connected in anyway to that of meat packing plants. I for one don't trust them... They are going to tell us what our Goverment and BP want us to think.. In 5 to 10 years when people start having trouble the Goverment will have changed the reports and we will be out in the cold. BP will be cleared of any wrong doing. from pace/fl by Steven
Comment: Monsanto's Agent Orange which was sprayed in Vietnam & caused diabetes in our vets & birth defects in Vietnamese children. The PCB's dumped in Anniston AL & in Escambia bay by Monsanto & Solutia cause cancers & birth defects. Monsanto's bovine growth hormone increases milk production in cows but causes udder cancer. We are told this is O.K. The scientists that were hired and were in disagreement with Monsanto's spin were fired. Gee, can we believe the govt. scientists now about the quality of fish which were sprayed with dispersants? Our govt. doesn't require Genetically Modified Organisms to be labled. It's safe we are told. Why do a lot of countries in Europe ban them? DON'T EAT THE FISH! from Milton by Tom
Comment: just can't be safe. oil is still washing up on the beaches even in the sound. i think they need to do more testing instead of putting everyone's health at risk by trying to keep tourism alive. from Pensacola fl by Robert
Comment: If Joe Patti's is still not selling local seafood, I'm not eating it! from pensacola fl by julee
Comment: YES BUT ONLY IF IT WAS CAUGHT WHILE STILL ALIVE... SEA FOOD USUALLY FLOATS WHEN SICK OR DEAD... SO LIVE CATCHS SHOULD BE SAFE TO EAT.. ENJOY from niceville fl by robert
Comment: With all the mis-information that has been published, I feel the public is being lied too again by the Govt and BP. I won't buy any Gulf sea food for a long while. from Ft Walton Bch FL by Frank
Comment: The oil is dispersed. the amount of oil is immeasurable compared to the amount of water in the gulf. why is it that the media is always pushing "green" propaganda as in "wet lands" are good and need to be protected. But when discussing mosquito born disease they are "swamps" which implies they are different. from pensacola fl by larry
Comment: If Obama say it safe it safe. by Darnell
Comment: I would not trust eating the fish. The dispersents in the gulf is highly toxic as is the oil. They said the oil was mostly gone and now found out that isn't true, so why chance it. I don't want to eat the fish and hear, oops, we were mistaken. from Pensacola, Florida by Linda
Comment: Thanks to the illegal, yet unprosicuted use of dispursants, the oil that has been rendered "see through and colorless" has sunk into the outer breeding ridges of the gulf and was once measured at 6 miles wide and 22 miles long.It could not be captured by the skimmers. Now we're supposed to believe it just magically disappeared and has been rendered harmless? Really? I DON'T THINK SO!!!! from Vero Beach by Dan
