Comment: Oh Boy! yes this must be changed, these children should not under any circumtances be allowed to profit from their parents crimminal activity. Being here without papers is illegal period. That should also be retroactive for the last 20 yrs so we can weed out all who profited from this Illegal Activity... from Pensacola by Jim

Comment: 8%? Are you kidding. I think it's about time we get a handle on this, now is the perfect time. I would think yes on change for the 14th amendment. Our forefathers would be appalled. 8% from Milton/FL by Tina
Comment: I understand having tougher laws to keep illegal immigrants out of this country. You have to remember why our founding fathers put that there. This country was founded for our own personal freedom. Why would we deny them their right to be raised in our country? from Navarre by Betty
Comment: I realize this country was built on the sweat and blood of immigrants. But when do we say enough!! The job market being what it is we need to do something to stop the bleeding. I feel if you were born to AMERICAN parents then you have a right to a good education. We are paying for the children of NON-AMERICANS to get a college education while kids born AMERICAN stand by and get the run around. from Milton, Florida by Jeffrey

Comment: I think you should change the law and do it fast. from al by James
Comment: if the law is changed (never intended to used in this way in the first place)it will probably be benifical in reducing the numbe rof people trying to get into this country to have a baby and then use this reason to fight being deported when they have an American child. from pensacola, fl by donita
Comment: Any child, born of American Citizens, should automatically be a U.S. Citizen. All others should go through the Legal channels to become a citizen. If we do not do this, we will be inundated by "Fake U.S.Citizens". from Pensacola, Fl. by Frank
Comment: This like so many stupid law on the books should have changed many years ago from pensacola, fl by jim
Comment: It is never a good idea to start "tweaking" the Constitution to favor OR oppose any one situation. from Navarre, FL by Wanda
Comment: Both parents should be US Citizens before a child can be a US citizen. from Pensacola, FL by Sharon
Comment: A modification of Amendment 14 should be implemented to prevent any child born within the borders of The United States or its Territories from becoming a citizen by birth if both birth parents are of illegal status. If at least one of the birth parents is of legal status, then the child born within the borders of The United States or its Territories should be granted dual citizenship up to his or her 21st birthday. from Pensacola, FL by Steve
Comment: If a tourist has a child here they don't even think of it as an American, but illegals do it just for that reason and never pay one cent in taxes for what they get as anchor babies! from Pensacola, FL by Rob
Comment: Its about time. from Crestview,FL 32539 by Daniel
Comment: I am retired MPDC and I have seen too many children of foreign parents become citizens, that we ene up paying for. from Niceville by Bill
Comment: Of course it should be changed. If a person is here on a visa or illegally in the country, the child shouldn't be an American automatically. The parents should both be Americans by birth, or naturalized. from Walnut Hill, FL by Ted
Comment: Absolutely. Being at a specific location at a point in time should not have anything to do with citizenship. from destin, fl by greg
Comment: Our cup is full!As a nation,we can't take care of our legal residents. If an illegal alien gives birth in the US,it is only to get a foothold in this country!Period! from PENSACOLA by SEAN
Comment: Send them back to their country. They are criminals and do not respect the laws of this country. They should not be allowed to remain in this country. from Navarre,Fl by Arnold
Comment: Seems to me if the illeagal immigrates were kept out there would be no need to change the Constitution. from Pensacola by NeaL
Comment: The times have changes since the 14th was approved. It is being abused and needs to be re-amended again to disallow this abuse. from Navarre, FL by Julie
Comment: I certainly favor it!! What other country does this?? I think most of our law makers have lost their commen sense and this is another law that just don't make sense, so let's change it!! They can't help senior citizens, but can give their selves a nice raise. Common sense?? Icall it common greed!! from Pensacola, Fl by Dick

Comment: The law served a purpose at the time but now works against us. Different times need different rules. from Pensacola Fla. by Oscar
Comment: America, love it or leave it! Secure the border and keep our constitution alone. from Oklahoma City, OK by Omar
Comment: The change needd to include both parents. Who wants the illegals here? The illegals are from south of the Rio Grande so that 97% of them are Catholics. Catholics want them here for votes and control. Since Catholics are pushing the Spanish language, we need an amendment to make American English the offical language like Florida. from Bluewater Bay by Bruce
Comment: 40% of undocumented immigrants entered the country legally and overstayed their visas, and the vast majority of immigrant women giving birth are not those who have just arrived. No legislation or Constitutional changes will solve this immigration situation. The U.S. must secure the borders and develop a tracking system for immigrants with visas. from Pensacola, FL by Grace
Comment: No! The law doesn't appear to be the problem. The US Gov't and their lack of enforcement, even though it is blatant, is the problem. The child should not be punished. The parents can allow the child to come to the U.S. when he/she is of age and chooses. Until then the child will have to remain with the parents or, if a U.S. citizen relative is available, then with the relative. Changing the U.S. Constitution is a knee jerk reaction. If this is allowed then all sections will be subject to knee jerk reactions and we do NOT need that. Red Label One from Pensacola by Jon
Comment: If an American has a baby in another country, that does NOT make them a citizen in that county. Why should it here? from pensacola by Sandy
Comment: born of illegals,u r illegal. we have a process for them lets use it. tom .7 from century/fl. by tom

Not only you will have illegals but also children without a nationality... are you ready for the mess that will be create out of these law? from Gulf Breeze by Victoria
Comment: If we were to do this, to be ethically right it means that everyone in the U.S. should have their citizenship questioned. I'm talking ancestry. How many people can prove that all their ancestors came here legally? from Alabama by Tricia
Comment: We do not need to change the Constitution. These anti-Hispanic laws remind me of the Jim Crow laws here in the South. from Mobile, Alabama by John
Comment: I think some kind of restriction should be in place for pregnant women who come here strictly to have babies. We certainly could not do this in any other country. from Pensacola Fl by Beverly
Comment: One parent is a ctizen of the united states from pensacola, fl by donald
Comment: NO, Don't change our Constitution. Send them all back to country of origin. from brewton,al. by jo ann
Comment: I think that if someone is born in the US they should be considered a US citizen! This is ridiculous! If they're not considered a US citizen then what are they? Shouldn't someone be a citizen of where they were born?! If we want things like this to stop happening we should make it easier for for someone to obtain citizenship in the US. We are so focused on the "immigration problem" in regards to Mexican immigrants but I've never heard of Mexicans causing concern for our national security. All they want is the opportunity to work and provide for their families. Jobs are few and far between in Mexico and many families still eat only beans most nights. In my opinion, if someone is coming across the boarder to have a child they are doing so to provide a better life for it. from Baker, Florida by Sarah
Comment: I favor the change. Becoming an American should require a commetment to the responsibilities as well as the privilages. If you're not willing to become legal then stop accepting our monetary resources and generosity and stop steeling the future of legal Americans. from Milton, Fl. by Caron
Comment: This ammendment was not intended to be a loophole for criminal trespassers (illegal aliens) to use as a way to get free and instant citizenship for their children with no paperwork required. Then the parents whine and complain that they shouldn't be deported because their children are citizens. The real truth is those children are the offspring of criminals and should be sent back to their home country with the parents. It should be changed. from Mobile, AL by Jim
Comment: i think that at least one biological (DNA TEST) parent should be a US citizen. from pensacola,fl by Bryant
Comment: We shouldn't change the law we should enforce the border. from valparaiso, fl by robert
Comment: none from tucson,AZ by peter
Comment: If the constitution had been changed, I would not be an american citizen born in these United States on the 4th of July! I have lived here all my life a daughter of dominican parents who later became American citizens themselves. Ridiculous!! from Crestview/Florida by Miriam
Comment: YOU SHOULDNT BE ABLE TO BENEFIT FROM A CRIME from LAKE FOREST,CA by MARK
Comment: The only way I would support a change to the the 14th Amendment would be if birthright was denied, retroactively, to anyone who can't prove they are descendants of the native tribes. Seriously though, This is a country build on immigration, legal or illegal. Contributions by immigrants are what make this country great. Stop the pandering now! from San Francisco by Elizabeth
Comment: if you have an illegal parent you should not be aload to be a citizen from pensacola fl by yes
Comment: Children born here are US Citizens and that must never change. from Pensacola/Florida by Blaine
Comment: The 14th amendment was designed to give citizenship to slaves brought here against there will, as stated above, not as a carrot dangling in the wind for anyone that chooses to enter our country unlawfully to anchor themselves to our society. The children of people who are here illegally should be considered citizens of their parents country! from NY by Micki
Comment: It is a sad day for our country when a group of individuals decide that it is ok to change the Constitution when it does not happen to suit their needs. I guarantee you this fervor was not seen when the immigrants where from Europe, legal or illegal. I'm sorry, but changing it on the whims and prejudices of a group of individuals is not kosher in my book. from El Paso, TX by Pedro
Comment: It is not being used as intended. It si time to close this Loophole and tighten our borders, or risk the destruction of this Nation as we know it. from Florida by Lonnie
Comment: THis is asinine, a radical right overreaction to a problem that our national leaders of both parties have not had the courage to deal with, and in this vacuum opportunists hoping to win brownie points with disaffected whites are promoting such causes, which if they are approved, make the US less of a great democracy, since after all, we are a nation of...immigrants, legal and not, throughout our long history! from pensacola, FL by chat
Comment: Changing the Constitution will prevent "waves" of illegal immigrants from crossing the border and stopping the growth of new born illegal immigrant babies. Us, the tax payer shouldn't be responsible supporting those illegal immigrant babies. from Gulf Breeze by Brian
Comment: Since slavery was abolished long ago and there are in fact no longer children being born to slaves we no longer need birthright citizenship. Atleast one parent should be a legal citizen of the U.S. before citizenship is granted to a child. from Hayward CA. by Danielle
Comment: Sounds like efforts put into keeping another color from entering our country when not to long ago another color was forced to come. It's never a good idea to try to control which race resides in your country. People are people. from Pensacola, FL by Laketa
Comment: This is the CONSTITUTION OF THE UNITED STATES, not some political football to be used by Republicans to pander for votes on the weakest and most venal level. STAND UP FOR THE CONSTITUTION. from california by michael

Comment: That's just wrong, should i say anything else? from new jersey by leo
Comment: All children should have a chance for the freedoms, educational opportunities and blessed life we enjoy here in America....God gave us this country to help bless his people. Everyone here in America has had someone in their family that came as an immigrant to better themselves and their families. Leave the constitution the way it is. Our forefathers did a good job.. if it wasn't for our ancestors this country would not be what it is today. May God continue to bless America and her immigrants who are trying to make a better life for themselves and their children. from Pensacola, FL by Chris
Comment: I oppose the favor and idea, h we are all people both good and bad. We shouldn't hold restrictions on others. Remember, we all came from other places throughout the globe. from Pensacola, FL by David
Comment: It will not change anything but to favor the Neo Nazi agenda to the overpopulation of white supremacist race from Jersey by Claudia
Comment: This is another drastic (and expensive) measure legal u.s. citizens will have to take to keep our country safe and to ensure more illegals can't just keep 'slipping in'. from Century, FL by D.
Comment: With all these new laws being proposed how can we even dare call ourselves Americans? This is not what America was founded on. Didn't we already go through a racial war within our own borders several times? Concentration camps for the Japanese, slavery for the Africans, discrimination against Jewish, Irish and now Arabic and Mexican decent? This country is going down hill fast finacially, politically, and idiotically. America YOU should be ashamed. from San Antonio TX by Larissa
Comment: Meant for babies of Slaves. There is no denying that and those who want to change history, be my guest, at your own demise! Politician Emptor! from Surprise/AZ by David
Comment: Arizona is hurting because of the Boycott. Want Florida boycotted too? from San Bernardino, CA by Hank
Comment: its not micky D. from skfskk by Cindy
Comment: It was argued (prior to passing the 14th Amendment) that the intent was NOT meant to extend to foreigners, aliens, or diplomats. This amendment was meant SPECIFICALLY to give citizenship to children of freed slaves. The USA is the ONLY country in the modern world that has not repealed, reversed, or eliminated the birthright citizenship. Due to worldwide travel being so accessible, it is time to put a STOP to automatic birthright citizenship. from Glendale, AZ by Phyllis
Comment: Someone better do some history- from the beginning do you actually think we Americans evoved in the United States since the beginning of time. Ask the indians if were are immigrants. Its all about me.me.me isnt it. EVERYONE here in the U.S. has a tilted bloodline.EVERYONE! I guess the black population wasnt bought over here either...and they also are American. from Pensacola,Fl by Flower
Comment: No other modernized country in the world grants citizenship to the children born to illegal immigrants....the US shouldn't either. It encourages illegal immigration and the benefits that come with it. from KC, KS by Laura

Comment: Deport the illegals now! from Jackson, MS by Klaus
Comment: The U.S. is the only country in the world that allows a person to enter the country illegaly to have a child that has automatic citizenship. I do not beleive that was the intent of our forefathers when the 14th ammendment. As with any law, intent needs to be addressed. I beleive this ammendment was written prior to, and without foresight of, its mutation into the "creative citizenship" ploy it is used for today. from Middleton Idaho by Michael
Comment: Both Parents should be Citizens be Citizenship is given. from Kingston, OK by Lawson
Comment: 'IF IT ISN'T BROKE, DON'T FIX IT'. That simple theorm (learned in the military) holds true no matter where you turn in life. Our forefathers had the vision which has held true for the past two hundred years, until our industrious liberal/socialized law system started to mess with it. If an 'educated' mind knows no better than to foul things up; what good is an education? Kids have been born in this country for the past two-hundred and twenty-six years, and the Constitution's fourteenth amendment didn't even get added until the post-civil war era. Are we therefore trying to say that prior to the 14th Amendment, kids were not born in this country? Give me a break: enforce the law, and there will be no need to change our Constitution. from Mary Esther, FL. by Tom
Comment: It's a privledge to be a citizen of the USA, NOT a right! No other country allows open citizenship like that. We need to be more conservative and protective of our country than we are. from Santa Clarita, CA by Carren
Comment: NO MORE ANCHOR BABIES! Citizenship should only be given to children born to parents who are here legally! from Canandaigua, NY by William
Comment: This goes against everything our country was founded on. If you're reading this email, it's very possible that you yourself may have born here in the US and are descendants of parents or even ancestors who came to the United States for freedom and to give their family and grandkids and great grandkids a better life and a chance at the American dream and a life of freedom. Comment: My mother was a naturalized U.S.citizen. It took her seven years and she had to pass a very difficult test to become a citizen. That was the law in the 40's and it should be the law today as well. from pensacola, fl by sandra
