| 94.68% | Yes | |
| 5.31% | No |
Comment: Yes, I do. If there were term limits of no more than 6, and preferably 4, years, we would not see the money being passed around to every special interest group and the taxpayers might even see some good come from their taxes. from Destin by Pat
Comment: We never needed term limits, as we already had a system in place to limit terms...it's called voting. But, if we're going to have it anyway, we might as well have it for all or none. from Crestview, FL by Doug
Comment: There are very good reasons for term limits on our presidrnt. the some are true for congress from destinfl by david
Comment: we have let our so called public servants sit in office and suckle the teete of the tax payer and special interest groups for way to long.Term limits pay reduction and open disclosure of lobbyist. If a public official no matter local, state or fed i caught with his/her hand in the public pocket repeated ethical inquiries or taking money. They should lose ALL benefits, retirement, etc. from pensacola by sam
Comment: Term limits are the way for Floridians to get rid of the few who are not for us but, for their own glory. Look at the 3 hours wasted today with the special sesson with nothing accomplished. They did receive extra pay for this and it cost the tax payers more. Get them out of office. They work for us!!! from Pensacola, FL by Audrey
Comment: Professional politicians have ignored the people and perverted the constitution to the point where our country is in peril today. from Pensacola, FL by Bill
Comment: Term limits will stop the greed. Senate and Congressional seats were supposed to be voluteer-filled positions and were never meant to be careers. Professional politicians have ruined our country and they threaten our way of life. They should be limited and then sent home to enjoy the results of their decisioons. from Navarre by Doug
Comment: I do support term limits. I believe that the members of our Congress are more concerned with getting re- elected and don't work for the people... their whole agenda is to get re-elected. With term limits, they don't have to worry about that and can concentrate on doing what is right for all citizens and not themselves. from Cantonment/Fl by Robert
Comment: I support term limits, too much time in Congress breeds contempt for the people... from Stapleton, Al by Ron
Comment: We need an end to career politicians and their liberal benefits. Think of the money that could be saved without their retirements and health insurance being paid. from Ft. Walton Beach, FL by Lisa
Comment: Definitely YES!! I think that 5 YEARS is long enough for one term. This way, there would always be "fresh blood" in Congress. This might help to keep things more honest. from Milton, Fl. by Lauralee
Comment: I have seen what happens when you vote out your senior politations. They have seniorty and can get things done from Oklahoma City, Ok by Earl
Comment: I feel the limit should be 2 terms. from Gulf Breeze, Fl. by Ray
Comment: Definitely term limits, most forget what the voters have done for them and they end collecting a paycheck doing nothing for the people and wasting tax payers money. Term limits will put them on notice that they are going to be held accountable for their performance. from Pensacola, FL by mick
Comment: yes for what they can do for us. that will do. after that it is what they can do for them selfs. why do you think they spend millons of there money. not for us for them. from mary esther by george
Comment: Being in public office for more than two terms makes the incumbent believe they are invincible and not answerable to the Tax Paying Public they serve. Public Service has little or no meaning any longer in America. from Milton by Wes
Comment: Iam strongly in favor of term limits in Congress. I also strongly oppose lobyists. We need to clean house and start fresh with people who will represent the peoples wishes. We have gotten too far from the Constitution that was written, for and by the people. from NAVARRE, FL by PAT
Comment: They also NEED to Extend the Retirement age to Equal the Rest of America!! If they stay for ONE TERM,as I understand it, they get FULL benefits and Retirement pay at age 55?? Guess who foots the Bill for THEIR PERKS?? We the People are getting the SHAFT AGAIN!! So these things NEED to be Addressed at the SAME TIME, and revamp ALL the Rest of the Congressional Perks, INCLUDING that THEY go on SOCIAL SECURITY at the Normal Retirement Age!! LOBBYISTS OUGHT TO BE OUTLAWED!! They are as Much of the Problem as the Do Nothing, except for what serves THEM, Present Administration!! from Pensacola, FL by Mary Agnes
Comment: Things left in one place too long become stale and part of the problem! from Fla by Kathy
Comment: The House and Senate should each have two three-year terms, with a minimum mandatory three-year layoff after that. from Crestview by Lucy
Comment: It does seem that term limits could help reduce some of the corruption. If you haven't seen the Jimmy Stewart movie Mr. Smith Goes to Washington, it would be worth watching! from Pensacola, FL by Amy
Comment: We definitely do need term limits. No more career senators or congressmen! These people are supposed to be the caretakers of America – but have instead become only interested in furthering the money they can collect and put into their pockets. Paying them a fair wage is okay with me, but the huge salaries they put into place for themselves is very wrong and just feeds their desire for more and their greed grows the longer they remain in office. They lose sight of the reason they are in office – if indeed they did run for office to protect the Constitution of America and work for the voters. Most of them now want to win the elections so they can become rich & hope to remain in office for the rest of their lives so they can become richer and more powerful. Money and power corrupt. Term limits are necessary to protect every American. from Milton, FL by Carol
Comment: If 2 terms is good enough for the President, it's good enough for Congress. As it stands now, their main focus is on the special interest groups that they are beholding to. They are too busy trying to keep their jobs to do their jobs. The focus should be on doing the job they were hired to do. Term limits would keep their priorities straight. from Pensacola, FL by Cindy
Comment: We need term limits. We vote the wrong people in and can't seem to get them out. They need to be OUT! from Holt, FL by Susan
Comment: My goodness! Term limits are not needed. As the author of comment #2 states, if you don't like the path that your elected official is taking vote for a change. Additionally, and if memory serves me correctly, once an official leaves office they receive a pension. Imagine every 2-4 an official receiving a pension for doing nothing. Tax payer money! I suggest, you study a candidate that will serve your interest and as long as he or she is serving your interest continue to vote for that person. from Navarre by HB
Comment: Yes absolutly! Thye are no better than a president that does from Pensacola,Fl by Flower
Comment: native Pensacolaian living in Georgia. Time limits much be implemented! from Albany, GA by Patsy
Comment: The President has a two term limit as a result of the inordinate power held by Roosevelt and Congress wanted to be sure that a President would not be able to get too powerful in his office. Congress should be accountable for the same rule since, as a result of "career politicians", the present Congress is possibly the most corrupt in history and has flagrantly disregarded the voice of the people. By preventing career incumbants the people actually may have a chance of regaining the country we seem to have lost. from Pensacola by Jim
Comment: NO ONE should be allowed to make a 'career' out of politics! If allowed to live your life in Washington you no longer work FOR the people, just OFF the people! from Pensacola, Fl by Maggie
Comment: YES, YES, my gosh: YES! Albeit we (in this country) have joined the crowd in making politics a 'career path'; it's about time we (the people) put a stop to the shinnanigans we have been condoning in Washington, D.C. I for one get very concerned about having people turning 90 or thereabouts making decesions to control my life for me. I say two terms in the senate max, and six terms max in the House of Representatives. Twelve years is more than enough time for even a greedy, unscrupulous individual to make enough money to live very comfortably, when you consider that we have people in this nation who don't even see an annual wage of one tenth of what we allow our congressmen/women and senators pay themselves - whose idea was it that they control their own pay anyway? Certainly not mine; if it were, they would get paid ONLY what they deserve AND NOTHING MORE. from Mary Esther, FL. by Tom
Comment: Two terms. from Pensacola, Fl by Nona
Comment: Congress voted for a freeze on social security paychecks for 2009 and 2010 but voted themselves a nice raise for 2009 and 2010,and put a freeze on their 2011 pay which they will probably vote to give themselves after the mid Nov. elections.Term Limits- You betcha !!! from Pace by Jo
Comment: After 8 years of living in D.C. they seem to forget the needs of the people who elected them and are more concerned with the big corporations who get them re elected. from pensacola fl by Brian
Comment: 2 terms at most. No such perks as they now have. Their big paydays for life, and they do not have to put up with medical bills, and SSI and Medicare. What a joke for what they do in office. Fedc up. from pensacola fl by jim
Comment: if the president has term limits so shouldn't the house and senate, and perhaps the supreme court as well. the reasons why can be elaborate, but to be succinct, too much power gathered by any one politician or any group of politicians has been demonstrated to be a detriment to our political process. from navarre, fl by gerald
Comment: Fat chance. The fox is in the henhouse. from Cantonment,FL by Jim
Comment: Yes, yes and yes. No way did our Founding Fathers intend for these positions to become life long vocations. We must create Term Limits for Congress and the Senate, and enforce them, some will find out about term limits coe November... from Pensacola by Jim
Comment: Absolutely...I think most Americans would be surprised to find just how much major corporations and special interests lobbyists influence politicians in Washington. Now the supreme court has open the floodgates to wide open contributions. The influence becomes ever greater as incumbents stay in office longer. Opensecrets.org is one of many websites where this type of information can be viewed. from Orange Beach, Al. by John
Comment: All the long term Representatives and Senators know how to do is spend, spend, blame, blame, blame and then stick their faces in front of the nearest news camera and act like we're stupid, stupid, stupid. from Pensacola by Valerie
Comment: They should also have the same insurance coverage and retirement that is available to the public. from Pensacola, FL by M. C.
Comment: Yes and limit thier staff too. Outlaw lobbiests from milton fl by dale
Comment: Only publicans should have term limit. peoples need to let Obama be. Charlie Rangle is being lynched by the white man. obama for life! from Mobile by Kruneesha
Comment: Yes there should be term limits we don't need career politicians and they also should not be able to get a pension as I understand they do for 2-8yrs of service.I work for the state and we have to work 20-30 yrs. to get full retirement politicians should also!!! from Milton,FL by Gregg
Comment: Yes, we have got to break the 'career politician' hold on our government. Becoming secure as incumbents, these lawyers do not represent our best interests, just theirs. from Pensacola / FL by Rick
Comment: If this doesn't pass, the power of the vote could do the same job. Just vote against any incumbent, good or bad, of any party. from pensacola, florida by Jane
Comment: DEFINITELY!!! As it stands right now, they don't have to answer to the people they serve, or should I say are suppose to serve.like the other public servants do.Threfore they do what they want to do and have JOB SECURITY for as long as they want. I feel this is unfair to the people they are suppose to serve as well as others who may do a better job. I suggest a 5 year maximum term would be terrific. from Milton/FL by Dawn
Comment: Politicians should also have to use the same health care and social security as the rest of the country. from Pensacola, FL by Michael
Comment: If you leave them in too long they will steal us blind. They make the rules, well, two sets of rules. One set for us fools and one set for themselves. Guess who gets the best of the best. from Pensacola, Fl. by Franklin
Comment: Not only should there be term limits, but once out of office you should have to get a real job...no more lifetime benefits and retirement plan. from Cantonment, Fl. by Jeff
Comment: YES....too often Congress forgets why they are there. They forget us, special interests claim their attention. from Pensacola by S
Comment: YES If anyone wants to be a member of congress they should have to earn the position their elected for and know it's will only be for two terms of 3 years each. at the end of their term no retirement. Further, more the people should vote on term limits, not the House or Senate...The House or Senate will never vote limiting their term limit.. Ballot initiative is the only way. ... Robert, Niceville from NICEVILLE FL by ROBERT
Comment: Term limits may be the only way to fight corruption on Congress. I would advocate a limit on campaign dollars spent to give a non-millionaire a chance to serve in Congress. from Gulf Breeze by Joe
Comment: yes, this is a must. This is not suppose to be a Life Long Profession. Need to be 3 times for Congress and 2 as a Senator. No more than that, then they go home, no Giant Pension either... from Pensacola by Jim
Comment: Absolutely, there used to be a day of loyalty to the folks. Now, Congress is viewed as a job not service to the people. Back room deals have been on display the past 18 months and that is not service. However, Congress has to pass this law and that will never happen nation wide, it will have to be done state by state. I think that can happen. It will have to be placed on our local voting tickets. Let us hope we can get there. from gulf breeze florida by danny
Comment: Well eventually we'll find one in it for the right reason and not for their own personal agenda from Pensacola by Jason
Comment: They need term limits to give us all a chance to weed out the good from the bad or lazy. from Navarre by Nancy
Comment: Yes, I support term limits. The initiative should not be to undo term limits but limit the power of lobbyists and to outlaw any financial and material offers to politicians. If you undo term limits next you know congress will pass a law that allows lifelong seats if either voted on by the people or their fellow legislaturors. Then we will never get rid of them. from Niceville/Florida by NiteMage
Comment: Absolutely.. Term limits are a must. While we are changing things, congress needs to be included in the Social Security & any mandated healthcare plans they cram down our necks. The arrogant Aholes who vote to give Social Security to immigrants who have NEVER contributed a dime should be shot......how can they administer anything they have exempted themselves from...? from pace by warren
Comment: I have been voting for 48 years. Our current Congress is the most corrupt, dirty liars, I have ever seen. Nothing but a big cesspool of crooks. Serve one term, then throw them out. The longer they stay, the more crooked they get. Their approval rate is now 11%. I am shocked that 11% of our population are idiots. from Pensacola by John
Comment: Why do we limit presidents terms but let the other bums stay way past their prime. We should institute 6 year term limits with cheaper elections and no pensions. from niceville fl by al
Comment: Perhaps this would help stop some of the corruption. They stay too long and are bought and sold out to the point of forgetting to represent the people who elected them from Pensacola,FL by Julia
Comment: As long as we let none producing people to rep for us things will not change. The people in office can open the snapper season for us.Any rep that says that the state can not is not telling the truth. He should be gone.Any rep that votes for a pay raise for himself should be gone. They do nothing for anyone but themselves. If you or I did what they all do we would be in jail.Any lawyer should not be able to run for office.Tghey are the ones that make the laws that noone else can understand. They are the ones that make sure that you have to hire a lawyer to protaect yourself from a lawyer.Raise my taxes you are gone.Cut what the state does for us ,you are gone.Do things like close snapper season because the quota is reached when you let everyone except the local fishermen catch fish,You are gone.If you expect o be paid to serve the people of Florida for the first 5 years,Don't even show up.You suck off of us you do nothing to help us.If you vote for one tax hike and take more away from the people of florida, you are gone.If it were not for the Govenment ib Florida ,Florida would be in good shape. The men and women in the service really do serve us. They get just over a bugger jockie's wages. The people in government get 1000 times the pay and do not serve us.They serve only themselves and the thieves that pay their way.It should be a law that those in Government are paid min. wage and those that serve burgers make $15 an hour. Then we would be out from under the leeches that run this state. from Fort walton Beach,Fl. by capt.Steve
Comment: I think it is ridiculous to have people in congress who are so old they have to be wheeled into the chambers. Also receiving retirement benefits after one term is obsurd. from Pensacola FL by Joan
Comment: Everything needs refreshing once and awhile. from Milton/FL by Fran
