Unemployment Benefits: Do you support an extension of unemployment benefits?

56.25% Yes
43.75% No

Comment: I support a work program similar to what the Govt did during the Great Depression. We cannot continue to pay people for not working. The economy simply cannot sustain that level of generosity. We have roads that need cleaning, buildings that need maintenance, parks that need grooming, etc. from Valparaiso, FL by James

Comment: Instead of using US money to enhance Democratic Congress states and pet projects, use their ability to create jobs in their own states, then other taxpayers would not have to support unemployed from Pensacola, FL by Audrey

Comment: It must be paid for, can not keep going on this path. We are already Bankrupt as a Nation both Morally and Financially. Must pay for it... from Pensacola by Jim

Comment: I think it should be extended. I'm one of those caught in the middle. Too much experience or the wrong type of experience. I can't win for loosing. I'm looking everyday but having no luck. from Pensacola by Betty

Comment: We are still economically in a recession. We need to keep money moving in the economy. We have a lack of available jobs with 5 people looking for every one job that is available. We won't grow our economy to the point of being in recovery by keeping money out of the economy, furthering the recession. People need to keep spending. from Pensacola by Henry

Comment: I know people who have waited till benefits run out to begin wanting to work. Now they are in panic/anxiousness. Who wants to hire someone who is used to money without work. Employers are taking a hit on what they have paid into unemployment for people who quit them years ago and got laid off from other jobs. from pensacola fl by wayne

Comment: I definitely think they should be extended. There are so many millions of people looking for jobs and they are hurting bad from Mary Esther, FL by Anna

Comment: way back when,my en-employment ran out,and i did not get an extension,so why are they ant better than i was. from pensacola,fl by glen

Comment: Those elected officials need to remember who got them their jobs, people are suffering, including myself because of unemployment- they need to do the right thing from Pensacola by mick

Comment: Yes i support however they should take care of the 99ers first and create a tier V from Pensacola,FL by Mchael

Comment: Bailout banks then hang the people who paid the taxes out to dry.Not a good way to get re-elected.They didn't cause the loss of jobs. from Milton/fl by dale

Comment: Yes, I support an extension of the benefits. I know alot of people who need the help. And like myself, dont want to lose what we have. from pensacola fla. by ron

Comment: If we can give support to other countries why can we help our own people? The unemployed have worked and earned unemployment, so yes we should extend the benefits. from Pensacola, FL by Emily

Comment: yes I have been enployed by a company for 17 years and they closed due to the econ. Now cant find work doing what I know. was layed off 2 years ago from Gulfbreeze fl. by Troy

Comment: I think there should be an extension. I am one who was getting unemployment, now my benefits have ran out. Work is very hard to find right now. I am a full time college student and I still try to find work, but its hard. from Pensacola,fl by Carrie

Comment: The jobs are not out there. You can't count temp.jobs, when your doing the numbers. from Pensacola,Fl. by Levert

Comment: The only way that people should be allowed to get unemployment benefits is if they can pass a drug and alcohol test at least once a month. If I have to take drug and alcohol tests to work and fund unemployment, they should have to take them to receive it. from Navarre FL by Andrea

Comment: Once again our dictator in chief is lying. I agree with the Republicans - it needs to be funded and they would like to use the leftover stimulus money for this, something you neglected to mention on the news. But then again you neglect so much. However, Mr. BHO has other plans for that money that he won't disclose. Hmmm..... As he tries to destroy the "American Public" any way he can, the Republicans are trying to preserve this country and keep it solvent and hopefully they will prevent us from slipping into the communist lifestyle that Mr. Barack "Hussein" Obama would like to see. November can't come soon enough for most of America at this point. from GB, FL by J

Comment: I DEFINITELY SUPPORT THE EXTENSION. I AM TIRED OF A DO NOTHING PARTY. I HAVE CHANGED TO THE DEMOCRAT PARTY. MORE INDEPENTANT. I THINK PEOPLE ,BLESSED SHOULD SHARE WITH THE UNEMPLOYED. WE ARE VERY CLOSE TO A DEPRESSION. from NICEVILLE, FL by RALPH

Comment: Yes we should extend unemployment. We are in an unusual situation with the economy. There is a lack of work and a serious lack of quality jobs! Even if you can find work it is ofter well below what you may have made before. People cant live on $300 a month. That is what I was receiving from unemployment until I got cut off. I mean really most apartments for a 2 bedroom are going to be $600 to $750. per month, plus electric, phone, food, gas, and maybe a car payment! Who can live off that! I can't our family has had to move in with family. This reminds me of what my parent and grandparents talked about in the great depression. Something must be done! Jobs need to be created!!! from pensacola, Florida by Jane

Comment: ther are no jobs out thear what are we supposed to do to pay our bills amd eat from cittronell al 36522 by tina

Comment: Americans of all decades have had a deficeit budget. This is nothing new considering who is in control of it and contributed to it by spending on B.S. If our leaders feel Americans are facless and mean nothing this is what happens. Bickering like a bunch of whores in Washington while they sit in $5,000.00 we tax payers paid for is to say the least that they who try and hurt Americans and play games needs to be stripped of position and pension and the $10,000 per plate dinners. This is an embarresment to real Americans who fight each day to just put a loaf of bread on the table. Including all of us Americans. However all these thousands of jobs Obama created lied about dont help him either. from Pensacola,FL by Flower

Comment: I guess the Democrats forget the law which President Obama signed several months ago which stated you had to pay for any new funding by cutting somewhere else. "Pay as you go" from Pensacola, FL by James

Comment: Yes, they should extended the benefits because there are few jobs in Pensacola, Florida. Families are depending on the benefits to support their family. from Pensacola florida by Shirley

Comment: I am againt extending unemployment. I know people who are not even looking for jobs. They just want the give away program. from Pensacola, Florida by Glenn

Comment: ONLY if the bill is paid for and doesn't add to the national debt. The President and Congress have spent this country into near bankruptcy and added to the national debt with free housing, health care and OUR money that we have worked for all our lives. Giving away everything that belongs to the American citizens to illegals is 100% wrong and it should be stopped immediately. from Pensacola, FL by Mary Ann

Comment: No I don't... If the government wants to give out money make it available to all and give by means of a credit card good for only 3 or 6 months, that would make everyone pump it back into the economy spending or lost the card once it expires.. from Niceville fl by Robert

Comment: I dont get it. Obama say the republicans that this discourages people from looking for work? Come this election they can join the rest of Americans out of work. How smug and arogant can a idiot politition get...oh I forgot...they are getting paid from our tax money..a never ending hole. from Pensacola,FL by William

Comment: heck np to extending unemployment benifits there are people getting benifits that get benifits nut then go to work in another state of just will not go kooj for work from pace by jeffrey

Comment: 10% of the people control 90% of the money. It is time they realize that if they don't start sharing, the 90% of the "have nots" will resort to crime. from milton by jerry

Comment: DEMOCRATS passed PAYGO the should be forced to obey it. Republicans have no problem with extending benefits using already existing "stimulus" funds. It is DEMOCRATS who are playing politics and holding up renewal of benefits. from Navarre, FL by Mort

Comment: Our government cannot continue to pay benefits month after month to able bodied Americans NOR illegals! We need to get our budget under control and it should start with able bodied people not receiving unemployment compensation. from Gulf Breeze, FL by Don

Comment: help from pensacola,fl by james

Comment: It's time to stop the free handouts to those who are just too lazy to look for a job. from flint, mi by jason

Comment: Would be for it if it was payed for. from pensacola,Florida by otis

Comment: If illegals can come into this country, find a place to live, get a job, and send money home, surely local citizans can do the same. from Pensacola by Jane

Comment: There has to be a a point of saying enough is enough. The problem of unemployment is complex at best. It is a full time job just to look for a job and if those looking for work are not aggressive enough in their pursuits they will not become gainfully employed. There is a difference between a helping hand and a handout. The current benefits time line is sufficient enough. Some may just be forced to change careers or pick a new trade in order to get back on their feet. Either way it is a daily task. We all must keep on keeping on. from FL by Donbrian

Comment: I support the extension of unemployment benefits. Some people may have abused the system, but it is my belief that there are many more that have not. America is going thru rough economic times right now and there are many hard working citizen "across the employment spectrum" that can't find jobs. We employ people to spend thousands of dollars to send their kids to college, yet when they graduate, there are no jobs. Now, we want these same people (parents and their college educated children) to flip hamburgers and mop floors. Bull! Stop corporations and manufactures from sending great jobs overseas, this problem with unemployment will deminish. For those of you that will disagree me and others on this matter, hopefully you and your children won't find yourself in an unemployed situation. But, you never no! I know quite a few folks that were rolling along and all of a sudden there was a reversal of fortune. from Navarre by HB

Comment: Republican are at it again, they sure can run our country in debt when they were in charge, and spend lots of money on WARS, killing thousands of people, but don't want to help the working people. They just don't get it, cutting taxes for the rich does not make jobs, but people buying products does. from Pace Fl by Daniel

Comment: I do not support the unemployment as it is being pushed by the POTUS and the democrats. Right now they are trying to pass this additional burden onto the tax payers having them shoulder with paying it back. I do like the position that the Republicans are taking in which they are looking for ways to pay for this additional expense. I do think we should take care of the unemployed but do need to do it in a responsible way. The POTUS and his democrats have allowed spending to go unchecked...simply they are irresponsible! by John

Comment: No, its time to stop with the Giveaways. These people on un-employment will NEVER go back to work (Employment is out there) as long as Obama keeps doleing out cash. Geeeez, I sure wish these democrats would run outta paper and ink, and quit printing money. There is nothing left in Federal Reserves to back up this spending. from Lillian, Al. by Joe

Comment: Certainly a nation teetering on the brink of bankrupcy can think of something better to do with its money, than to give it to the unemployed or give exorbitent pay raises to the undeserving. from Mary Esther, Fl. by Tom

Comment: Benefits only keep people from going back to work. We have fewer apps now than when the economy was good. from Holt, FL by kathleen

Comment: check on these people, they don't go out and look for a job when they can get something for free from Crossett, Ar. by Religh

Comment: I support the extension of the unemployment benefits 100% as I am one of the millions of unemployed Americans who depend on the payments to get by. from Milton,Florida by Chris

Comment: But only to those who can show proof they are in some type of retraing such as collage or technical traing center. from Pensacola by Frances

Comment: The unemployment benefits will help the people that need it, just like the corporate welfare that has been enjoyed for the Republicans. from Cantonment, FL by William

Comment: Given our current economic situation we don't have a choice but to oppose the extension unless other cuts are made. However, I'd rather see unemployment extended before sending another 1/2 billion to Pakistan like Clinton just promised. from pensacola by nancy

Comment: Rather than just extending the benefits, why not implement a program were those on unemployment work for the community while receiving those benefits. That way, the community is better off and the unemployed are using their time off for a good cause. from Gulf Breeze by Natalie

Comment: jobs are hard to come by now it is even harder when you are over 50. they say there is no discrimation but try to find a job here from foley by s

Comment: I absolutely support extension of unemployment benefits. If the unemployment problem is as bad as the politicians like to say it is, then now is the time to help the people through it. The money paid out will all come back through the economy somehow, and it will cost far more in the long run to help the unemployed later after they've lost their homes and defaulted on all their bills. from Pensacola, FL by Crystal

Comment: There are jobs out there and people will have to do somethings they don't like instead of sitting around waiting for a handout. from Fort Walton Beach, Fl by Frank

Comment: Yes they should extend unemployment benefits. The ones that say no still have jobs and don't need the extra help. Try being out for 18 months. from Pensacola FL by Cheryl

Comment: My dughter was just laid off from the clerk of the court. she is looking for work prior to her last date of work. There are many jobs out there and she is in college full time. I do not receive unemploymnet, even though I am not employed. People will not go back out to obtain employment, many receive benefits yet work under the table. Obtaining employment is important. What will happen when they retire and have no 401k or Social Security? from Pensacola, FL by Roberta

Comment: Yes, Definitely! However I do not feel like the amount that individuals will receive will be enough to pay, utilities reconnection fees, interest on loans, etc... You do NOT have a certain amount of time you have to PAY UC, so therefore they should NOT have a cut off on how long you are allowed to receive it. Most people that are unemployeed are NOT unemployeed because we want to be. Most of us are in our late 40's to 60 years age range and MOST companies do NOT want to hire us. OUR Governement needs to put theirselves in our places. MOST of elected officials are in that age range and would NOT be hired as well. Companies want to hire and train people who will be able to stay with their companys a while, therefore looking at younger aged people... I have been unemployed for going on two yrs. and fall into this age range, I can not get ANY kind of medical help or cash assistance, because I do NOT have children or I have not reached retirement age. It is ASHAME that OLDER INDIVIDUALS living in the U.S.MUST LIVE in the U.S. this way.I have watched Ch.3 News regarding this subject and saw the individuals that have been walking into the unemployment office or being interviewed and MOST everyone that I have saw, have been at least 45 yrs or older. from Milton/FL by Dawn

Comment: I think people on unemployment should work for the money, doing jobs in our community that have been cut back on, like cleaning parks etc... that way the ones who want work will work for the money and the bums will no longer apply. I also agree that drug testing should be done. from ftwaltonbeach fl by rick

Comment: we do not need to borrow money to fund this. If so then weneed to kill it from Fort walton Florida by Herman

Comment: Blame it on the republicans. The Republicans want Obama to extend the un-employment funds by using the stimulus they already have. But NO, Obama wants to borrow new money and put our country in more debt. It makes me mad to think of what’s going on and our president is having parties and even bringing in Broadway Plays to the White House at the taxpayers expense. Yesterday Hillary Clinton went to Pakistan and gave them a half a billion dollars of our tax money to for their aid projects. What about us? Our tax money is for the people of the United States. Who gave them the right to give it away to foreign country’s ? We need to hire the rooter man clean out the cesspool in Washington D.C. by Debbie

Comment: more jobs, not hand outs from fwb by wbf

Comment: with the way the economy is going...only the cold-hearted and selfish people would say no to this... from p'cola fl by h

Comment: Cannot support another extension without identifying where the money will come from. It is a matter of setting priorities! No more increasing of the national debt. from Pensacola/FL by J

Comment: I also support the expiration of tax cuts for the wealthy
