Maritime Park Stadium: Do you support the latest efforts to stop the construction of a baseball stadium in downtown Pensacola?

41.49% Yes
58.5% No

Comment: I think that money could be better spent on solving some of the crime, upgrading neighborhoods, and education. I think we need smart, safe people more than we need baseball games. from Milton, Fl by Rick

Comment: Stop the ball park. It is not needed from Pensacola by Claude

Comment: We need something that is for everyone and a tourist attraction , not another sports complex from milton by Sarah

Comment: It seems there is always someone who wants to stop progression of any kind in Pensacola. How sad! from Pensacola, FL by Mary

Comment: Theres no room for parking why do they want to put so much in such a small place. from pensacola, fla by paul

Comment: They need to keep in mind that once and a while the water is going to rise fifteen or twenty feet. from valp.,fla by robert

Comment: From all of the plans I have seen, the stadium is not simply a baseball park. It also appears it will provide a venue for concerts and other sporting events. Having lived all over the country and witnessing first hand the positive impacts both waterfront developments and multi-use stadiums bring to communities I think it is ridiculous to try to stop the development. Give it a chance. I for one think this is a positive move for Pensacola. from Milton, FL by Chris

Comment: waste of money. need to spend on park with a regular stadium. Baseball is not that popular in pensacola. Average attendance is only 1,500 people per game. from pensacola, fl by rex

Comment: This is a Crime, even if the economy was doing great we shouldn't be Taxed for this "Bait-n-Switch" SCAM. If they want to appear the least bit honest we would of had a revote on the latest plan/switch. This is a burden the city can't afford and ALL responsible should be held accountable. from P'cola by Paul

Comment: The Pelicans moving to a downtown location and a new stadium would bring much needed money into the economy. from Pensacola, FL by Vicki

Comment: That was the whole idea!! I have been waiting for the pelicans to play there, I will buy season tickets! from Gulf Breeze/FL by Mike

Comment: It really doesn't matter what the people want.those with their own interest will bend the laws to get this.It a bias layout that will go the way of other venues in Pensacola....Laws are made by those that benifit from them. from Molino by jOHN

Comment: I have yet to meet anyone who has voted for the debacle the city has taken on! This park is totally different than what was proposed in 2004. How will the city benefit from this thing that was backdoored into production? Must be the same thing that was used to get the ball field in west Escambia county a couple of years ago. I believe Marty Donavan should be applauded for his efforts in saving the city from losing a ton of money. A few questions come to mind with this project: Parking.....or lack there of Jobs.....Do not see anything that would employ anyone fulltime with a reasonable wage with the exception of issuing parking tickets maybe from Pensacola, Fl by Steve

Comment: God, please. Just can the whole thing. I'm sick of hearing about it! Plant some palms on the property and forget about it. from Pensacola by Cheryl

Comment: Some of my fondest memories of growing up in Pensacola included taking in a Pensacola Dons game with The Bay as the backdrop. I think the stadium will give another reason to come downtown from Pensacola, Fl by David

Comment: Build it and they will come. This will be a great upgrade for downtown and a new source of pleasure for the community. We could even get some Navy and Marine teams to play here. A great source of income for Pensacola. Donovan and Nobles need to open their eyes to the future. Baseball and hot dogs. from Pensacola, Fl. by Franklin

Comment: The reason I support not building the stadium is simply that it does not need to be on prime waterfront real estate. That property has been rammed down the throats of the voters for so long that it seems that apathy is setting in. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out who benefits from the progression of this plan. from Pensacola by John

Comment: any extra spending of money by our county should be put on hold until this oil spill is handled, we don't have the money now to support cleanup of our beaches,if we don't get it handled there won't be anyone living here who can afford to go watch baseball, it just won't matter from cantonment, f; by susie

Comment: i have been here since i retired from the navy in 1992 the same person mr donovan has tryed to sop it if it ment any thing to do with the water front but let it for condoes or something like that he would be all for it. the city can make all kind of money on this program. what wrong with a good base ball game foot ball game. from pensacola fl by roger

Comment: A multi use stadium would be an asset to the park even if it was primarily a home for our minor league baseball team. There must be a mix of venues in the park including the maritime museum. Our waterfront is a large part of our future. from Milton by Ian

Comment: We need the money for more important things like clean up equipment. Why would anyone want to go to a game and smell oil. by s

Comment: i DO NOT SUPPORT A BALL PARK WHAT WE NEED IS AN AMUSEMENT PARK LIKE SEA WORLD DISNEY OR MGM THEN THERE WOULD BE SOMETHING FUN FOR EVERYONE from FL by Kathy

Comment: I think the Pelicans need a home. They should be the pride and joy of Pensacola and the stadium will be the crown jewel. from fort walton beach, florida by margo

Comment: Instead of Motown, Pensacola is known as "Notown"! I'm tired of it!!! from Gulf Breeze FL by Jack

Comment: Marty Donovan has been against the stadium from the begining. He needs to realize that the citizens voted him out of office because we do not want or share his opinions. Marty didn't you hear us - go away! from Pensacola, Fl by Paul

Comment: Maritime Park is one of the BIGGEST wastes of money that the local government has made in years. The country is broke and you continue to waste money at the taxpayers expense. I will be glad when the people wake up and pay no more tax until you crazy people wake up. Even Obama has a big surprise for us after the November elections. It's called the "VAT TAX". by Dale

Comment: Waste of money, due to location

Comment: Referendum YES vote trumps 10

Comment: This project has been discussed, argued about, petitioned, without a result for years. The only thing that has been accomplished si that the cost has increased due to inflationary pressures. How much more will this statiuym cost with the continued political posturing by our elected officials that are supposed to represent us.hncgybp from Pensacola, Fl by Ralph

Comment: NO! this is the time to build the park because we are looking at significant loss of revenue from the oil spill. this area is wayyyyyyy over due for something else besides the beaches for entertainment and business. most modern visitors are most complex and they need other things besides the beach for the TOTAL entertainment value to this area! if these two clowns want to talk about loss of tax revenue...then why did they not endorse to diversify the local economy and get other industries, besides more service industry, to this area? we rely too much on the tourists and need to learn the lessons some of the rust belt cities had to learn after their steel, auto, etc...went "south" and had to shut down... from p'cola fl by h

Comment: Enough delays. Just git'er'done from Pensacola by Dale

Comment: I think in the long run the stadium will help bring more tourist to Pensacola. from pensacola, fl by Pete

Comment: Only a few people will be helped by the stadium. The park should benefit everyone. from Pensacola, Fl by Dan

Comment: this plan is pure lunacy from bratt fla by keneth

Comment: the maritime park being built is going to bring jobs to a struggling economy, from construction to customer service. I feel like the real question to be asked is: Do you support the local economy being driven even farther into the ground? or even: Do you support keeping even more people out of work in Pensacola? from Pace, FL by Justin

Comment: valuable property that could be used much more wisely and serve a wider audience. from pensacola by susan

Comment: It doesn't matter what I think and it surely doesn't matter what Donovan, Nobles and their cronies think, The people have spoken. Why do some people keep trying to force their views on the masse from Pensacola, FL by Roy

Comment: We are going thru a very Bad Crisis and it is foulish to put our money into this Stadium until this Crisis is over. We should all stand united to do what is best for Pensacola!Clean our waters from Pensacola, Fl. by Joyce

Comment: It is ridiculous, the stadium will be the biggest draw of the park. Let Pensacola grow!!!!! from Seminloe, AL by Roger

Comment: I support the construction of a baseball park. from Pensacola/FL by Jerry

Comment: It's time to get our head out of the sand. We need economic growth badly in Pensacola and this is America's favorite pastime and while other areas do need concern, such as the oil spill, BP and the government has promised to fund that. The funds for Maritime have been approved and let's get on with it before another tourism opportunity goes by. from Pensacola by Linda

Comment: I'm opposed because the lack of support for attendance to the Pelicans game, why not develop an ampi theater to bring in more concerts at a much more reasonable costs. I feel this would generate more revenue for Escambia County. I have attended multiple concerts in Orange Beach, Al and were missing the boat. from Pensacola by Steve

Comment: I am not against the construction of the ball park...just the location...nothing should be constructed in that area of its too volunarable to hurricanes. from pensacola by georgia

Comment: If we need a Ball Park, build where the dead or dying University Mall is. It would have great visibility for 24/7 advertising and it would have easy access for traffic from both I-10 & I-110 in a centralized location between both our colleges. . We don't need to build anything along the water front that's hard to get to. . The voters in Pensacola voted to buy that property for water front access for locals before the property got high jacked by developers. . Our tourist industry is in jeopardy with an unknown future. Keep it real. The whole project is a very questionable project at this point as an investment for the community. from Pensacola by Henry

Comment: Pensacola has plenty of parks that they fail to maintain and why build a park for the unknown pelicans aka Studer from Pensacola, FL by James

Comment: For Pete's sake...some people just never give up. This town needs this park..the whole park. Get on with it. from Gulf Breeze by Carl&Ann

Comment: I must say...having an opprotunity for sharing ones 3cents worth is wonderful! However, if you're not one of the 38,500 folks that have a "BLACK' Trash-Can... You really don't have any say so in the matter! from Pensacola, FL. by TR

Comment: The baseball stadium is the one thing that will draw people from Destin and beyond. The so-called leaders of Pensacola lack vision. We don't need another strip mall that will soon be full of vacant store fronts...if that's the best they can come up with, give the land back to the homeless people who appreciated it! from Gulf Breeze by Paul

Comment: This area's main industry is tourism. No tourists - no jobs. The Maritime Park is good for tourism. The statium is also good for tourism. It gives more seating for more people. Lots of people follow minor league ball. The multi use provisions of the stadium are also good for our area and gives us the ability to attract other sporting events to our area. The Maritime park means jobs. The staium means jobs. Not just in the park or the stadium but in the surrounding areas as well. from Navarre, Fl. by Mort

Comment: It's about time someone has spoken up about this ridiculous and expensive baseball stadium. Lets keep the park simple, affordable, and for the people. from Pensacola Florida by Kathleen

Comment: too beautiful of a spot, for a stadium---put something there, that won't be an eyesore. from molino, Fl. by ginny

Comment: It works in Harrisburg Pa.Their stadium is on an island in the middle of a river. from Pensacola Fl. by Joe

Comment: Its time to move on Pensacola. Are we going to keep letting the "Old Money" run this town? Pensacola is already the 3rd string town on the GulfCoast (behind Panama City and Destin). Why? Because Nobles and Donovan and the rest keep all the taxpayer money between them and their jabronies. from Pensacola by Stephen

Comment: I think it is a waste of money needed elsewhere. It could be built in better location. Hurricane will wash it away. The people pushing it are the ones who will profit from the $15 million price tag. from Pensacola by K

Comment: (And it's a multi-purpose stadium, not a "baseball stadium") from Pensacola, FL by Tanya

Comment: I feel the stadium should be built in a different location. Another Ivan will blow it away at the current planned site. from Pensacola FL by Emily

Comment: NO! For God's sake, let's get it on. How many times are these obstructionists going to be allowed to shut the region down? This is not the 1950s - it is time for Pensacola to be bullish about its future - or resign itself to the dustbin. from Pensacola / FL by Rick

Comment: We are in a recession. Who wants a Baseball Stadium that would cost taxpayers 15 million. Are you people nuts. You build it, you pay for it. Not me. When are the idiots going to wake up. from Pensacola by Diane

Comment: absolutely we need everything that maritime park has to offer, including the multi-use stadium.10 years and donovan and nobles are still singing that tired old song. be useful you two...go clean the beaches. from pensacola,fl. by jeanne

Comment: With all the issues Pensacola & the USA faces today a ball stadium for Quint Studer should not even be considered.Another taxpayer funded moneypit that will NEVER be self sustaining is lunacy. If Studer wants a damn stadium, let him build it with his & his buddies money...not mine. from Fla by warren

Comment: Back in the early planning stages of the Maritime Park, I worked for a local phone survey company. We did a survey on about 15 things that might be put there. On all the surveys I did, having a baseball stadium was way down on the list of things wanted at the park. I agree with Donovan that more "green" picnic type area is needed, not a ball park taking up a huge amount of land on a pretty small piece of property. from Pensacola, FL by Lee

Comment: marty donovan and jack nobles needs to leave pensacola, if they don't like the moving ahead in Pensacola, we as long time citizens are tired of movement for change being derailed. from pensacola,fl by rick

Comment: The city can no longer afford basic services! How can they justifie spending this astrinomical amount of money to bild a ball park, that will be distroyed EVERY time a storm comes in. from PENS/FL by DAVID

Comment: Marty Donovan is holding up class again! I went to high school(Catholic High '69) with Marty and he was known for constantly presenting arguments that held up class and infringed on classmates. Build the ballpark and they will come. Sit down Marty your holding up class again. from Gulf Breeze, FL by Steve

Comment: This should have completed by now,all the politics have derailed this project long enough. One has to spend money to make money. from Milton Fl by Terry

Comment: Can not wait for park to open. from orange beach, al by jim

Comment: It's been approved over and over, and delayed over and over by people who didn't get their way. Now they risk millions of dollars acquired for development. Let something move forward for a change. Spoiled idiots that were kicked out of office because of the same type of shananagans. from pensacola, fl by paul

Comment: Same words were used to justify the Civic Center. Nothing but snake oil marketing and salesman here concerning "people who had planned to get rich off the tax payers" just like the flippin Civic Center and the Esqetarian Center . Smoke and mirrors and money handed under the table as usual. I wonder if all the counties in the U.S. are as greedy and coniving as this one. Must be the norm. Why are us taxpayers fotting the bill to start with? GREEDY AT TAXPAYERS EXPENSE- Pensacola is Top Gun @ that. from Pensacola,FL by Flower

Comment: Any more, I really don't care. I am sick of the indecision and lack of leadership. from Gulf Breeze/FL by Don

Comment: No!!!!!!!!!!!! from Molino by George

Comment: I totally support the efforts. The money should definitely be used elsewhere. Why do we need a baseball stadium anyways? Do enough people even attend to support something like that? My thought is why not a few park benches and couple of water fountains. Do you really want to waste that land for a baseball stadium? They would save money by standing at the shoreline and tossing it into the Gulf. from Pensacola Fl by Darlene

Comment: CURRENT economic conditions dictate frugality. Until people have jobs, it is tough for people to support sports arena. Taxing teh middle class for the enjoyment of the few or the rich ain't gonna work. Create jobs first so that people can afford to pay for the pleasure. Until then stay frugal. This is worse than bailing out a private golf course, because people can't afford to play any more. It is all about putting the food on the table first. from PENSACOLA, FLORIDA by K

Comment: They are trying to stop a good thing. grow up people. the pelicans are playing in a broke down staduim not suited for middle school baseball. they deserve a nicer place to play. from pensacola, fl by dequavise

Comment: Yes, the ball field is a joke and should not be included in this project. from Pensacola by Cindy

Comment: What's wrong with just putting it on hold for six months or a year until we know how long it will take the beaches to recover? Granted, I don't pay taxes in Pensacola, except sales tax on my yearly visits, but with the loss of jobs and tourist revenue resulting from the oil spill, it seems like the city should be proactive in saving its tax dollars. But, on the other hand, if it's anything like here in Little Rock, the ball park can also be a major source of revenue if the Pelicans draw a faithful crowd...Go Pelicans!! from Little Rock, Arkansas by Barbara

Comment: KEEP THE STADIUM AS IS AND JUST BUILD IT. I AM TIRED OF THESE PEOPLE TRYING TO SET BACK TIMES. GET RID OF THEM. from GULF BREEZE, FL by GREG

Comment: I'd rather have something less commercial on the site, but the people have voted on this more than once and it is time to follow through on the plans. If we let a small minority continually block all efforts to develop our city, we will never be more than just a place you have to pass through to get to the beach. from Pensacola by Andy

Comment: We need jobs, not another park.....I've been unemployed for over 16 months.. from Pensacola,Fl by Mike

Comment: This area will not support a stadium. I does not support this ball team now. Why would you expect it to change with a new stadium. Do the park can the stadium. from Cantonment Fl by Robert

Comment: I am 28 years old, and was born here in Pensacola. I haved lived here my whole life. I feel that Pensaciola will never grow without projects like the maritime park and the stadium going into it. The citizens who oppose this have had their time and they failed to get it stopped, and thats because the rest of us want our city to grow. Go Pelicans! from Pensacola, FL by Ryan

Comment: We need the stadium AND the park to drive the economic recovery from the oil spill. We have to diversify our tourist industry to other things besides just the beach. This park WITH the stadium will bring people and jobs downtown. from Pensacola, FL by Walter

Comment: having lived in Pensacola growing up, and now a resident in Greenville, SC, baseball is a great fix for the downtown area. from Greenville, SC by Ty

Comment: They need to build the damn stadium. I don't care what it cost. It will bee pretty and bring lot of good paying jobs for minoritys. I aint worry bout no taxes goin up, cause I live in the county. Goverment need to make jobs. from pensacola by Kruneesha

Comment: I support the baseball stadium being built onlly if it will hold other events such as concerts, converting it into a football feild. That could help West Florida get a football team. It could benefit Pensacola greatly. But i do not support it if it will only be used for baseball. We are not even affiliated with a major league team. from Cantonment, FL by Chris

Comment: I think the this entire project has been a nightmare since day one. Either build the stadium or just nix the entire project because we are all sick and tired of the back and forth arguments and delays taking place daily. Donavon and Nobles need to grow up and realize that we need this project to begin because with all the drama going on with the oil, this will take the oil spill and the polluted beaches off the minds of people and will offer people different options as to what to do in the mean time, rather than sitting at home watching how BP has ruined our beaches. Pensacola needs this stadium to keep locals here, because believe me, what is happening out there now, I figure we will lose a lot of good citizens. from Pensacola, FL by Jeff

Comment: Im sorry, we have more issues at hand that are far more important than lining pockets. 1st deal with the economic impact concerning the oil spill and BP stonewalling. Lock each person up (exes who decided $ was more important than a persons life and livlyhood and as long as they are locked up fine then and lein 1,000,000 a day and do the sane for BP fine and assess then 10,000,000 a day until they show the fortitude to take agressive action- and stop the leak. People do not give a flip ( except those who want thier pockets lined in financing and pay back- under the table money) The good people here that are suffering need to know that our Govenrment doiong a parade show and no tell and media blitzing about a .5 I.Q. VP dont put food on the table. This is not a local disaster. This is a national disaster. Mr. Donovan isnt thinking this big picture also in the outcome is going to affect him and other good people. from Pensacola, Florida by St. Will

Comment: I find it so unreal that our community would let a small number of people get in the way of something so positive for our downtown area..Disgusting from Cantonment,FL by Ted

Comment: This sort of continual naysaying to progress is what has held Pensacola back for far too long. from Pensacola, FL by Bruce

Comment: Come on already, I am so sick and tired of the constant prolonging of growth in this town. We remain stagnate as other towns prosper. from Pensacola, Fl by Jennifer

Comment: I think it's a great idea. Something to do finally. I can't wait to go. from Pensacola, FL by Rebecca

Comment: With the current economy, high unemployment and the advant of the oil crisis, I don't think building a stadium at this time is a prudent decision. Essential jobs ie; teachers and policemen are on the "chopping blocks" or are said to be on the "chopping blocks". Any extra tax revenue at the countys' disposal should be directed toward them, as well as all other essential jobs. HB from Navarre by HB

Comment: That is a great spot for a baseball park. Plus, if u gotta boat, kayak, canoe, raft, etc...then when a ball gets knocked out the ballpark and heads to Davy Jones' locker, some lucky fan can intercede and take a home a piece of pelican history. The folks against this are the same folks who I believe want to ban booze at the beach, nake everything illegal, and just want to make life miserable for all but themselves. That's my 3 cents. from pensacola/fl by Lance

Comment: The space should be used a an open park for events like the ones held at seville square. There would be a lot more room I think the baseball team will eventually fail and it would be a waste of money and space to build a stadium. from Gulf Breeze, Fl by Jim

Comment: If the baseball stadium is such a good idea why doesn't Quint Studer use his money to build it. The citizens of Pensacola should not be building Quint a softball stadium. from Pensacola by Alan

Comment: stupid city council members ... they are so indulgent on making cash for their own pockets and putting the burden on all in Escambia County ... stupid city council members from Here by H

Comment: Too much money. Sell the land, build condos. Collect taxes. Income; not expense. from GB, FL by Bob

Comment: I think they are being rediculous. We need to move forward. They are only costing the tax payers more money. We need this park more than ever. from Pensacola Beach, Fl by Sarah

Comment: Let Studer build his stadium at UWF where it would be safe from storms and the students can use it. Stupid to put downtown as part of his effort to build Studerville aks Stupidville. from Pensacola Fl by Jerry

Comment: When is enough, enough. The opponents for the Maritime Park have lost their protest over and over, time for them to shut up and let the will of the people take over. They have a right to disagree with the project, but not continually attempt to stop it. Ken Guier from Pensacola, FL by Ken

Comment: We have bigger problems to solve. We should be ashamed we are one of the poorest counties in FL and should work on that first. from FL by Lauren

Comment: Yes A stadium is like throwing money away....It would never be able to pay expensives...Right now that is proof... The pelicans are doomed........Robert from Niceville fl by Robert

Comment: Should be trashed and in the box behind the counter until times are better. In any case the Tax payers should not be footing the bill for this fiasco! from Pensacola by John
