| 52.82% | Oppose |
Comment: Are you kidding? Is there anything left to discuss on that issue? Of course not; no offshore drilling in Florida! from Pensacola, FL by Rhonda
Comment: We absolutely have to keep drilling. We need more safeguards and better policing of the oil companies but we need the oil. With the unemployment so bad here in Florida we can't afford to lose more jobs. And we can't afford to be giving more money to arab countries. from Pensacola, FL by Kathy
Comment: Even more opposed now than ever. Why do you think folks from Texas, Louisiana, and Mississippi have come here for years for beach holidays!? from Pensacola by Mack
Comment: I am apposed to drilling in the gulf--it is grossly expensive, and the money could be better spent on other energy sources. from PENSACOLA/FL by JOHN
Comment: Selfish as it may be, it really depends on how Florida fairs in all of this. Louisiana benefits with revenues from the drilling more than we do, I believe. As far as I know we benefit only by some employment. We also have far more coastal exposure. It will depend on how our damages are covered and our way of life restored. The government seems to be doing all it can to interfere with BP's attempts to mitigate our losses at this point by being first in line for payment before us and imposing regulations after the fact, rather than before when they would have meant something. from pensacola beach by nancy
Comment: With proper enforcement and strict safety measures, yes I do. Until we get oil independent we need to tap into our own resources. Pray for our coast. from Pensacola by Gwyn
Comment: DRILL BABY DRILL, This was a terrible accident and more are to blame than bp, i feel to put another 70,000 more people outr of work, i say check one rig at a time so the riggers will still have jobs. from pensacola fl by pam
Comment: Drilling should be allowed,BUT only in water that men can be put on the bottom, like 150-200 feet. from robertsdale,al by mike
Comment: I am for offshore drilling as long as it is done with plans for the worst case scenario in mind. from Pensacola, FL by Steve
Comment: I do not think they should drill off florida coast they have a big mess now we dont need anymore. from cantonment florida by patricia
Comment: No more drilling until Greed and carelessness is no longer an issue. Please from Fairhope, AL by Margaret
Comment: If all safety measures are met I think it is VERY important to have off shore drilling so we don't have to be dependant on foreign sources, not to mention how if effects our economy...people have and will loose jobs and their livelyhood from Pensacola, Florida by Glen
Comment: Yes i favor drilling offshore Fl. This spill is bad and will be cleaned up. BP made bad decision along with MMS. I worked offshore for twenty nine years and i know the company i work for followed the procedures to insure there was not a spill. Do not comdem the other companys for the filure of one company taking short cuts are not taking care of equipment that is the only link between you and blow out. (The BOP) from century fl by John
Comment: I used to favor drilling because we needed it for reasonable gas and was convinced there were safeguards to prevent the kind of disaster we have now...While we may have the technology to drill safely we dont have the technology to control human greed that would cut corners to make extra money from Pensacola, Fl by David
Comment: Imagine the costs of this spill. Now, realize that every day Americans send 100 times that much to OPEC. We must drill here and drill now and we must become energy independent. BP has taken full responsibility from the get go. This disaster will end but the biggest disaster is American's transfer of wealth to the Mid East. from Pensacola, FL by Edward
Comment: I don't disapprove of oil drilling off the coast as long as they're so far out I can't see them, and our government has the sense to enforce safety regulations. This was a catastrophe waiting to happen, and I hope those filthy rich oil company CEO's lose everything. from Crestview by Ginny
Comment: I oppose drilling. Look at the mess we are dealing with. from Navarre, FL by Marisol
Comment: After whats happened? Who would even think of drilling off our shores!!! If they do, something is terribly wrong with them! from Pensacola, FL by Linda
Comment: I think the spill is reason enough for saying no to all oil companies! from Gulf Breeze FL by R aonald
Comment: Let the drilling stayin the areas it is in now. Not off our coast. Look at who has gotten the worst of the oil, Louisiana. They allowed the drilling close to the shores and look at them now. I grew up in the beach area of Texas and sw the beaches because of the oil riggs. This should let everyone know that there isno surefire way to keep this fro happening again. from Pensacola Fl by Jacqueline
Comment: Favor, when you have a car wreck, are you going to start driving? If you get food poisoning, are you stopping eating? When the space shuttle ( 2) blew up- did we stop the shuttle project... No! Crap happens and always will. Even thought this is the second time this same question was asked.. Stop the media hype PNJ. WE all know what happened. from Pensacola,Fl by Flower
Comment: from Fort Walton Beach by Bernie
Comment: When the BP cash cow goes broke, there won't be many jobs around. Our economy is already in a mess, but think how it'll be if our buddies, Saudi Arabia, Venezuela, Iran, etc. shut off the oil like happened back in the 70's. As many people will remember, 1973 brought widespread panic to the nation, with the onset of an international oil embargo. Middle Eastern countries, wrought with long standing religious and political conflict, cut off exports of petroleum to many Western Nations, including the United States and the Netherlands, in anger over their involvement in the Arab-Israeli conflicts. from Milton by T
Comment: I never did believe in offshore drilling!! Now I really don't believe in it! from Pensacola, FL by Jasmine
Comment: Good high paying jobs, We have oil wells in the Gulf already, we must have gas for our automobiles from Pace/Fl. by Ferren
Comment: NO NO NO !!!! NO Offshore Drilling. BP + Drilling = Disaster from Indianola, Iowa by Shawn
Comment: We need to drill in order to get away from foreign oil and we can do it in a safe way. from Pensacola, Florida by John
Comment: This spill is a great example of all the issues needing solid resolutions before drilling should continue at all. BP has had too much control and appears to continue to choose to attempt half hearted solutions which would allow the well to continue as a viable oil source after the crisis. All attptms have to been to keep this well active despite the negative impact on our environment and people. Wake Up they are essentially unregulated in this mess. BP is still trying to find a way to make a profit in the end. from Gulf Breeze, Fl by R
Comment: No-brainer. from pensacola beach fl by lynne
Comment: I think drilling expansion still needs to take place, but there does need to be additional safety oversight. from Pensacola, Fl. by Charles
Comment: I would only support it at depths that as accessable by divers to be able to repair problems!!! We have spent billions to explore Space lets explore our waters in the same fashion so we know what we are dealing with. And develop suits and equipment that can handle it Let's Explore Earth since we are mostly water I think this would be a much better way to Spend Money other than Space that's going no where except a bottomless pit of Money. Good luck to all of us this is so sad( We are going to lose so much of what we all take for Granted(( from FL by Kathy
Comment: I still favor offshore drilling of Florida coast but with stringent safety precautions. from Gulf Breeze by John
Comment: what can I say...Yes I favor more sdrilling....Many people in this area need work and this is on thing they all rely on working on a rig.. Accidents are bound to happen therefore more safely procedures must be put in place and followed to the letter.....Robert from Niceville, fl by Robert
Comment: I am for drilling because of how many jobs and lives it provides for. My father works on a boat that takes the mud off the oil rigs. People dont realize that if they stop drilling, THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE will lose their jobs. So please, consider how it is going to effect the lives of THOUSANDS of families if you stop the drilling. from Cantonment, Fl by Rebecca
Comment: All off-shore drilling shouldn't ever be allowed off of any of USA's coast lines. This is just a taste of what can happen and this alone is distroying our eco-systems. We have alternative resources and it is time we use them before it is too late. from Alabama by Kathy
Comment: Texas / Louisiana maybe Mississippi made the deal with the devil by having off shore drilling, not us in Florida, now we have oil front property !! STOP THE DRILLING! from Gulf Breeze by Michael
Comment: Absolutely oppose!! Florida's main income is tourism but because of deep water drilling nowhere near our state..look what has already happened! We may not recover for many many years, IF EVER! America HAS to make the MOVE towards Alternative Forms of Energy NOW! We have waited long enough and if this isn't enough of a SIGN for the WORLD to SEE....then we are in BIG TROUBLE for our future! from Pensacola by M
Comment: We need to put our efforts into wind and solar power. Electric cars would also lessen our dependency on oil. from Summerdale / AL by Yvonne
Comment: Drill baby drill from Pensacola/Florida by Bryan
Comment: I have opposed offshore oil drilling for years. We must insist upon the development of clean, renewable energy. The technology has been around for years, but instead, billions of our tax dollars still go to subsidies and royalty rebates for oil companies. We need to shift that money into the development and availability of clean, renewable energy. from Navarre by Peggy
Comment: We must drill in the Gulf and Atlantic as well as Pacific and Alaska. Russia will be drilling in Cuban waters, 45 miles from Key West very soon. Stiffer rules will be required for deepwater rigs, but not to tight to stop drilling. i.e. Three Mile Island and Nucluer plants. from Gulf Breeze by Jim
Comment: DRILL BABY DRILL from Pensacola, FL by Frank
Comment: We just don't have the technology to clean up spills. The oil industry needs to spend money on development of new technology for clean up before they start drilling off the coast. Right now we are using 1970's technology to clean up this mess, and it not working. from Pensacola, Florida by Joe
Comment: I strongly oppose off shore drilling. The current oil spill is the proof of why we should not allow off shore oil drilling. What we NEED is more progress towards alternative energy sources such as solar, wind, geothermal. The "price" of oil has become too high. The environment, animals, people will all suffer for decades to come because of the horrific oil spill in the Gulf. from Pensacola, FL by Debra
Comment: This question has been asked several times already. Are you going to keep asking it til you get the numbers you want! The ONLY companies you will stop is the American companies. The rest from every country in the world will continue to drill and charge US $5.00 to $10.00 a gal. for gas. You want that you pay it! I want to pay as little as possible. from P[ENS./FL. by DAVID
Comment: Hell No Industry and government have proved they don't know what they are doing and further more don't give a damn. from Molino,Fla by Dolly
Comment: Are you kidding? Look at what happened in the gulf. They have no idiea how to stop the leak right now. from Navarre, Fl. by C J
Comment: I would have to say I oppose to offshore drilling simply because of the hazards we the people of the Gulf Coast have to endure as well as the sea life. The question that I have is: Due to the oil spill in the gulf what will happen to our Fourth of July Fireworks Show! from Pensacola, Fl by Angela
Comment: NO MORE OIL DRILLING!!! from MS by Gabby
Comment: They capped off the Florida onshore wells just so they could drill in the Gulf. It was a dumb idea then, it's a dumb idea now. NO MORE DRILLING IN THE GULF!! from Pensacola by James
Comment: WHAT HAPPEN THIER CAN HAPPEN HERE AND WHAT BP HAD SAID IS NOT TRUE AND THEY LIED from VALPARAISO FL by PAUL
Comment: Only idiots would support drilling in Florida waters after seeing what has happened. It is more imperative than ever to work more diligently than ever to reduce our dependence on fossil fuels. Leave the gulf to the sealife. from Pensacola, FL by Cindy
Comment: What comes to mind is Why? Why take a chance on drilling so deep that if the worse happens (which it did) you cant stop it. My favorite memory--Warm afternoon on Friday. My dad just picked me up from school and we were driving to Fort Pickens for one of our weekends camping. Had the windows down. Radio was playing Steely Dan's "Reeling in the Years"-we were singing along. I remeber looking out the open window from the bridge, at the white sand and waves and thinking "How Beautiful". That night at the campsite--Jubilee happened. All the camsite ran onto the beach with their laterns and coolers. The moon was full and the waves were breaking on the beach. Phospherus was lighting up the white sand like blue stars in the sky. Made a time capsule today. Went to the beach and brought back some white sand. Put in some old photos and lots of good memorys. from Pace, Florida by WANDA
Comment: Accidents do happen. If an auto has an accident do you want to ban all autos? We must hold those responsible for their mistakes. The law should rule. Penalties must be stiffer for negligence. from Pensacola, Fl. by Franklin
Comment: I have always opposed it because I live here. People that haven't seen the distruction for themselves or if it doesn't impact their lives just don't care. If it was in their back door they would. It's sad. from Gulf Breeze, FL by Kelley
Comment: I have never been for drilling off of our coast, and now look what happens. Some stupid accident and our way of life will change forever. They have destroyed the most beautiful beachs in this country, killed our wild life, and and ruined people's lives. Keep the drilling off! from Destin FL by Tamme
Comment: NO deep water drilling, where it's too hard to control from Pensacola FL by Bonita
Comment: The amount of damaged caused is irreparable. lives will be permanently destroyed...is it worth it...i don't think so!!!! from pensacola, florida by mash
Comment: I have always been against it. Now look what happened! They have ruined our coast for years.... from Navarre Florida by Susan
Comment: Oil drilling off o shores has caused the Armageddon of our beautiful Gulf Coast. from Ft.Walton Beach Florida by Lisa
Comment: If a plane crashes we don't ground all air traffic! Banning drilling is a panic responce. from Destin/Florida by Bob
Comment: If these oil companies are to cheap to instal safety vavles to prevent oil spills when something happens on the rig, then keep them out of the Gulf. The Gulf has been destroyed for the next 100 years because BP was to cheap to instal safety vavles that would work. from Pensacola, FL by BILLY
Comment: Never liked it in the first place. Now it should all be shut down and capped before any more wildlife are affected. I would rather pay more at the pump than endanger our wildlife and beaches. from pensacola by paul
Comment: Those saying we need to drill offshore to keep our oil supply cheap should check their math. They forget that you have to factor in the environmental costs as well. from Pensacola, FL by Andy
Comment: I think it would be a no brainer. But I have to reminder myself that there are a whole lot of folks out that are functioning with IQ's of 80 or less. from Gulf Breeze,Florida by Ben
Comment: Regulations must be place. I also believe we need to research other forms of energy. We all need to be conserving. from pace florida by delaine
Comment: With the whole world focused on the oil spill, I can see future attacks by terrorists. It would be so easy to cripple our economy with such little effort. The multiple repercussions would hurt the entire US for many years to come. Drilling for oil in Alaska seems more practical. from Pensacola by Jan
Comment: You're kidding, right? NOW is the time if any for alternative fuels!!! from Pensacola by Annie
Comment: Any patents bought up by BP for green technologies (yes, oil companies do that) should be relinquished, and that's just one of many things that should be done. from Pensacola, FL by Dara
Comment: I think the media footage says it all. The damage this mess has caused will affect us forever. It appears that not only does the oil companies have not plan, neither does the government. Stop the drilling now. Bring in Saudi Supertankers to suck up the mess and start doing it.... 56 days ago would have been nice! from Pace, Fl by Joy
Comment: I was never for off shore drilling and supported hands across the gulf. Oil is a dirty, dangerous business no matter how much they pay to work on the rigs, it is not worth it. Now other oil companies want to testify at the hearings in Washington in support of deep water drilling. I guess these are the environmentalists that Rush Limbaugh said is making oil companies drill so far out. I support alternative energy. Here is a joke for you. Did you hear they had a big air spill at a wind farm in Wisconsin? The residents said they enjoyed the breeze. There are less harmful ways to get energy and besides not all that oil they extract from the Gulf stays here in the US. BP is a GLOBAL CO and they sell on the open market. We need to have these oil companies donate more to research and development of alternative fuels. from Navarre by Chris
Comment: We need to be independent of the ARAB oil. If this one well is pumping this much oil, what about the other thousands we have. Sounds like we're exporting our own oil. from Pensacola/FL by Leonard
Comment: We needs to stop oil drilling. Obama gonna set us strait on electic cars and soler power. I hope my rims will fit on my new elecric car. by D'marcus
Comment: I have opposed drilling off AL coast, much less the beautiful water of FL. But I'm a nobody, so nobody listening to me. from Mobile AL by Brenda
Comment: im willin g to see what,if anything, will be done to the research of BP'S other rig platform called the ATLANTIS..its out there as well,2000 ft deeper than the Horizon, and also has been cited w errors n dangers..how can we favor drilling if there isnt anyone watching for our safety as is proven by ignorrnace of the continuing dangers of the drilling going on at present, right in the same ocean..the Gulf. from milton by rhonda
Comment: It should be obvious now that the risks vastly outweigh the minuscule contribution to our energy independence. from Niceville, FL by Greg
Comment: we need to get away from out side sorce. from Pensacola Fl. by Allen
Comment: based on the comments here, looks like those at are in "favor" still are addicted to oil like a drug addict to a drug... looks like people have not learned the lesson yet about drilling and the practices of businesses when they are left alone to "police" themselves...if people want smaller governments...here is the reprecussions...people want businesses to "make money" at all costs...here is the reprecussion...people want status quo and not make an attempt to have sources of alternate fuels...here is the reprecussion...i sure hope all those folks who enjoy driving their SUV's, Sports cars, and "recreational/work" boats are enjoying the local beaches... from p'cola fl by h
Comment: Offshore drilling employs many people- stop it and approximately 30,000 lose their jobs. Is this what we want for our already distraught economy? from Jay, FL by Sheila
Comment: Bring it on. Its got to happen, we are too dependent on oil. However, stricter laws need to be in place to govern what companies must have avaliable instantly for incidents like this.
Comment: what the _ _ _ _ do you think I think after this nightmare? from Gulf Breeze Fl by Cynthia
Comment: I love our pristine beaches, not oil infested beaches. from Pensacola/FL by Jeff
Comment: I opposed it before the BP oil disaster and I oppose it even stronger now. It is too dirty and dangerous. We need clean alternatives. from Pensacola FL by Tracy
Comment: What difference does it make. We ship it overseas, anyway. It does not help the US. We have plenty of oil in our NorthWest. Why not use it for ourselves?? from Pensacola, Fl. by Frank
Comment: OBAMA GO HOME!! from PENSACOLA, FLORIDA by NINETTE
Comment: About plugging the leak, what about the possibility of sinking a battleship or an aircraft carrier on top of the leak and then fill-up the hallow spaces with cement for good measure. Well, just a thought. from Pensacola/Florida by Juan
Comment: I am in favor of it to make us independent from other country's but, When an accident happens like this the President needs to take over from the beginning. Right now there is all this talk about CLEAN UP, Get the Darn thing plugged first! Stop the problem first, then worry about clean up. from Mary Esther/Fl by Tami
Comment: Favor, if stronger regulation and safety standards are implemented. No more behind the scenes, secret and closed door meetings allowing big oil to cut corners. Finally, people need to stop blaming the OBAMA administraion for what they perceive as a slow response or not angry enough. If he would have jumped to soon, he would have been accused of trying to take over big oil, as he was accused of trying to take over the auto indudtry. from Navarre by HB
Comment: There are Pros and Cons, but in our current situation I think our best bet is to not rely on other countries. Not to mention rising gas prices in a recession. I do however think about the environmental hazards and how more precaution should be taken. We should learn from this experience. from Pensacola, Fl by Laura
Comment: I have always favored offshore drilling because it can be done safely & had been done safely for decades. The water depth with this blowout is the reason this has taken so long to contain. The people shrieking about the current oil spill were the same people shrieking about $4 gas 2 years ago from Gulf Breeze, Fl by Grant
Comment: Use the drilling control laws of Brazil, Norway and Sweden as a guide if we do have off shore drilling. from pensacola by rex
Comment: OPPOSE, OPPOSE, OPPOSE! No explanation is necessary! from Pensacola, FL by Lois
Comment: This has been disaster but on top of this, Obama has got all the ammo he needs to run back to Washington and start crying "Cap and Trade", that will send our electric bills through the roof. We all know Bill Nelson is a yes man and we are in double trouble on the Gulf Coast. from Pensacola by Jane
Comment: I feel it is pretty naive for someone to believe that they can drill in the gulf and never expect oil to leak. What has happen to our gulf coast is major and will effect us and vacationers a very long time. I do not see where it is worth the risk. from Gulf Breeze, FL by Dot
Comment: You're kidding, right? Opposed! from Pensacola by Tom
Comment: why should they drill more when they can't clean up the mess they made they dont care about Florida they dont live here we do you could get teens toclean tere room better then bp is there oil how sad is that we will lose our land and they will make more money from cantonment,fl by andi
Comment: It is a shame the way the U.S. Government is doing the people of Florida, Alabama, and Mississippi. The people affected by this oil spill disaster are hurting and all we get are promises and more promises. If we were a foreign island or a far off country, we would have Americans , Movie Stars, and the U.S. Government giving money to help the people that are affected and sending in cargo ships and airplanes full of food to help those people that have lost everything. Today Obama left here to return to Washington. All he was doing by coming here to visit was to fulfill his agenda by using us and the oil spill disaster as an example of why we need to pass the “Cap and Trade Bill”, that will affect all of our electric bills until we can’t pay them anymore. But he says it won’t cost the American People a dime. The more government gets involved, the slower things will go and the more it will cost us. Wait and see. from Pensacola by Brenda
Comment: The economic risks outweigh the economic benefits as the world is learning as a fact. The ecology belongs to everyone and everything and shouldn't be put at risk for a little oil. from pensacola by R
Comment: I think they should end deep water drilling until the process is considerably more perfected but some off=shore drilling should still be done.i would prefer a turn towards nuclear energy and move away from a petroleum dependant economy. from Pensacola by Paul
Comment: I favor drilling in less than 300' & natural gas wells are no problem by warren
Comment: We need to explore options to oil for our energy expenditure. This country is so dependant on oil it clouds our perceptions of life simplicities, like riding a bicycle. This latest incident, even though they say its the only oil accident since we first started gulf exploration is going to ruin the gulf coast for many generations to come. I can't imagine growing up and not know what an appalachicola oyster tasted like! from Navarre, Florida by John
Comment: Only if all regulations are followed and inspections are done by people that give a damn. from Benton TN by Suzanne
Comment: After sitting in line for gas this morning I am strongley in favor of drilling . we lost our shores & our seafood now they take our jobs & oil whats next ??? from Pensacola by Greg
Comment: We can no longer delude ourselves into believing that their will be no negative impact if we continue to drill in the gulf. We must move away from oil. It is rapidly becoming a matter of survival. from Pensacola/FL by Russell
Comment: no, No, and NO from Pensacola, FL by S
Comment: I can't imagine anyone being for it. I wish I could afford an electric car. Have you priced them?? from Pensacola, FL by Dara
Comment: •I think this says it well Say to BP “NeverMore” • Once upon a midnight dreary while I pondered weak and weary over many troubling problems on the Gulf's pristine blue shore, Suddenly ...there came a slapping as of crude oil gently lapping, lapping at my own front door. Crude oil, and a whole lot more.... See More Oystermen and shrimp boat owners, fishermen and kayak loaners, all are facing ruination due to the abomination BP placed on our ocean floor, gushing oil forevermore. And that well head keeps on spewing, all the while BP is doing nothing to protect the lives of those who live on this blue shore. While the oil runs thick as honey all they think of is their money (and OMG it's just "too Sunny!") for anyone to be outdoors. Cleanup crews in haz-mat suits and hats and gloves and rubber boots patrol the tide lines to remove the evidence that this foul ooze is washing death with every wave until there's nothing left to save. Still the tides will ebb and flow on blackened beaches where no one goes. There are no...See MoreStill the tides will ebb and flow on blackened beaches where no one goes. There are no gulls or terns in flight and no "no-see'ums" ready to bite. The turtles are not here to next, because they've died like all the rest. There is no quick and easy fix, despite BP's big bag of tricks. The consequences are the same and we should all accept the blame of living off of Big Oil's wells instead of changing for ourselves the way we live to help preserve the fragile coastline that we love. • by Linda and Edgar from Fort Walton Beach, Fl by Linda
Comment: I am 68 years old and was born and raised in Pensacola, Florida about 3 blocks from Pensacola Bay and about 30 minutes away from the Gulf of Mexico. Obama has been here four times and it seems like he is not really interested in what the people have to say. It always seems like there is something else on his mind. Well in his speech last night I found out what it is. He is using the oil disaster we are having here to promote his “Cap & Trade, and The Energy Bill”. I liked to have lost my false teeth last night when he turned our disaster to promote his agenda. He has already ruined Health Care and now he wants bring the highest tax increase in the history of the United States with this energy bill. Our electric bills will go out of site. Please watch out senators, don’t take any rides in Air Force One or anything else where he may corner you. He is a good speaker with a Teleprompter and a False Prophet . We can not live with all these outrageous tax increases. from Pensacola by Alice
Comment: The actions of one operation within one company within an industry should not be allowed to determine the fate of the company and industry as a whole. If the offshore industry dies so will the thousands of jobs on shore which support the industry. When a person thinks of offshore drilling they think of the energy industry, try to think also of clothing, medicine, anything made of plastic. The oil industry is a much larger part of our lives than cheap gas & oil for cars. from Crestview/FL by Offshore
Comment: Yes, but with saftey issues being done the same time, for example, a second well to take over if something happen to the first one. That way millions of gallons of oil is not let pouring into the gulf. from Pensacola by Jim
Comment: We have been collecting money on the lease to mineral rights while not allowing those mineral rights to be explored. The lack of shallow or shelf drilling along the substantial coastline of Florida has been a direct factor in the need to drill deeper and deeper wells that led to this catastrophy. The special interest groups who only care about the view from their high-rise time share need to take a closer look. They have wraped themselves in the flag of conservation for 40 years and the oil washing up on our beaches is the result. How is the view now? from Pensacola Florida by Matthew
Comment: I have always opposed drilling in the Gulf. Can anyone stop the drilling? NO from Milton, FL by Eugene
Comment: If we have a hurricane how far inland would the toxic contamination go and how long, will BP pay for that? from Pensacola by jack
Comment: I listen on the news about the sea turtle I feel sorry for them but what do we have to do first worry about them or the whole beach in a whole. If we don't do something about the oil out there we won't have to worry about the sea turles cause the oil will kill them all from gulf breeze,fl by betsy
Comment: I don't favor drilling in state waters - but further offshore, and outside of the military section, we have got to explore and extract oil & gas for our nation's use - and we must do it safely. Clearly, there were a number of human errors in the current BP tragedy - but those can be prevented in the future. We cannot put our head in the sand and pretend that the nation and Florida does not need a variety of energy sources - even as we gradually convert away from fossil fuels - over at least 25 years - to be truthful. from Pensacola / FL by Rick
Comment: an accident can happen anytime, anywhere. Enforce safety regulations an press on, or another country will. from Pensacola / Fl by Charles
Comment: We have the need to reduce of imports from abroad from Wewahitchka, FL by Lawrence
Comment: until you can run a car or truck on a non petroleum product, you don't destroy the industry that provides life to the economy. from Gulf Breeze / FL by Frank
Comment: I don't want Pensacola Beach to look like Galveston..no drilling in our end of the gulf. from Pensacola by Jane
Comment: I still beleive it is ok to drill off the shores of Florida's coast as long as all involved people stay diligent to following guidlines and protocols for protecting people and the environment. Mistakes will happen and terrible things such as this can happen from those mistakes but lets learn from the mistake and be more diligent workers ensuring we are doing everything possible to prevent mistakes.
