Military Role in Gulf: Do you believe the U.S. military should take over the clean-up efforts in the Gulf?
| 48.85% | Yes | |
| 51.14% | No |
Comment: I believe that our military has enough on it's plate as it is with the War in the Middle East. If anyone should be cleaning up the oil it should be BP! from Milton, FL by Erin
Comment: I think that maybe they should intervene. After all they have plenty of boats and other things at their diposal. BP CANT CONTORL IT. We are always helping other things we need to help us. I am sure that the military would be more than willing to help in the effort. The more the beter. by Kay
Comment: Why stretch our military even farther than it is already? I'm a veteran and need to work! I've applied for several positions and am either too old (55) or some long time personal problems prevent me being hired. Help us locals who are struggling to make ends meet! from Milton, FL by Christopher
Comment: If the military knows what to do, (no evidence of that) they should force BP to do it. Taxpayers should not have to pay for the clean-up, which is what would happen if the military takes over the actual clean-up. Make BP clean it up. from Mobile, AL by Barbara
Comment: No. The military is not trained for this situation. Who would you have go to Iraq and Afganistan to replace them? from Milton, FL by Dan
Comment: I thought the US Coast guard was the Military and I think they are doing as much or more than any other branch of service could, If we need more boots on the ground call out the Florida national guard. from pace, Fl. by Thomas
Comment: I think that MEN, lazy men, who do not have a job and are on probation or parole living off of their elderly mother, girlfriend, cousin, friend, ect. should be court ordered to work on the oil FLOW clean up and get paid only the amount the court has ordered trhough out their probation or parole. And their pay should go directly to their P.O. $0.00 to them. NO MORE!! from Pensacola Fl by jackie
Comment: Obviously, BP does NOT have the knowledge. It's become too obvious no oil Co has prepared directly for emergency. At this point, Military presence could at the very least represent government concern - and perhaps an extra hand and mind could come up with quicker success. Inland we do not see cleanup effort from Baldwin County by Barbara
Comment: I think that the military should and that falls back on the govenment this is what should have been from the start it seems that BP does not know what they are doing it is a so sad that they could let it get this far from fort walton beach fla by theodore
Comment: BP has the expertise to do the best job correcting the oil spill. Now add the expertise of our meally mouthed Chief Ex Spurt and a new hurryupcane season and we can look forward to a fresh caught Mahi Mahi that is premarinated for an exclusive gourmet treat. Burn the oil and it will come out of the water, blackened and just right to pop in your mouth ready to eat. from Pensacola, Fl by Nelson
Comment: No! We need to stop the pilitical postring Nelson and the like and just DO YOUR JOB AND MONITOR BP- you know like the government did in lets say " WHEN YOU WERE SUPPOSED TO ( THE GOVERNMENT) OIL DRILLING ISSUES TO START WITH. I say lets take all the politicians and plug the pipe with them. Two birds with one stone I say. If our fine presidnet and fine government would have stopped being chummy with the oil buisness and regulate them (means no money under the table and kickbacks and look the other way) we wouldnt be here today. Our fine govenment set this fire now they want to ride the shiny new red fire truck and have some pictures taken. PATHETIC! Just another Katrina....OBAMA! from Pensacola,FL by Flower
Comment: I believe that the Coast Guard is part of the military from milton fla by Thomas
Comment: I think that the military should take over the spill efforts because the military knows what they are doing. They know a lot and losing aginst an oil well is NOT an option with them. from Pace,Fl by Jarrod
Comment: Absolutely not. It's BP's mess and they should face the problems they've caused. If anyone else steps in and things continue to go wrong, BP will shift the blame. from Milton by Lynne
Comment: The military does not have the technology or the know-how to deal with the spill. from Milton, Florida by John
Comment: the military would have the mess capped and cleaned if givin first priority. from gulf breeze by michael
Comment: The military has no expertise in this. They can help in support capacity and that's about it. from Navarre, FL by Mort
Comment: Only on a completely voluntary basis. The military has its hands full! from Pensacola, FL by J
Comment: The president needs to stand up a planning team of our best and brightest in the Army Corps of Engineers, other service branches, educational institutions and other government agencies. The time of static government needs to be over as we're facing an extreme disaster. Prosecute later, let's see agressive action to stop the oil leak now. from Pensacola, FL by Craig
Comment: no, the military should not be in charge of the clean-up efforts in the Gulf. BP created this problem and should be held totally responsible for it. from pace fl by anita
Comment: Too late though, Obama's used this since day one to promote Cap & Trade. Never let a crisis go unexploited. He's as guilty as BP. from Navarre, FL by Ron
Comment: BP should be allowed to get a quote first like all of us would want. Based on the bills they've gotten from Obama and Crist, they may have alternate sources of help such as the Dutch ships that would be more efficient and less vindictive. Being forced into a single resource with arbitrary billing is unfair to anyone, even BP. from pensacola beach by trisha
Comment: Bring in military fast. Also Gov of Fl Christ should be Impeached an charges filed for lack of action guarding coastline.Saying it was to great a job is outlandish. He has shown NO Care.La an Al Gov's have shown tons more action.Just shows that the Panhandle means little to rest of florida. What a shame. from GULF BREZE / F by ARNOLD
Comment: Is he nuts?!?? Our Military has enough to do without getting sick trying to deal with something they have no expertise for. What our President and the lawmakers should be doing, is assessing a large daily fine to BP and their cohorts. We believed what they told us (failsafes, etc., etc.), and they failed us and all of the United States. Start hitting their pocketbooks!! NOW!! from Crestview, FL by Lucy
Comment: I think that our government declared a free for all so other nations can come in and get some free oil. I think that the media has hidden the real truth. Now all of a sudden there is media coverage. where were all of the stations when it first happened? One of these days the truth will come out. I don't trust a damn thing the media has to say. I believe in what GOD puts on my heart and that iS... The BRITISH ARE HERE AND THEY ARE IN CONTROL.Now call me a liar!! from milton/fl by debra
Comment: yes because i think that they should because they really can help us clean up the oil...they have helped our nation so many times before. from pensacola florida by Danielle
Comment: I would say no. We ask enough of our service members as it is. Besides, FEMA should have the role in this one. A "Flotilla" of ships from the Navy is not the answer. The government owns cargo ships that could be used to supply clean up efforts. from Pensacola, FL by Charles
Comment: Do I agree......NO B Nelson must be out of his mind to even suggest the military be called into such a mess...They (the military) train to shot and kill..along with many other things and cleaning up someone mess is not one the many things in their training. Many people are looking for work..Get them out there...Bp is paying. It's time some of these lazy bums get off their butts who are on unemployment... Robert from Niceville fl by Robert
Comment: THERE ARE PEOPLE HELPING WITH THIS CLEAN-UP THAT ARE BECOMING ILL. THEY HAVE NOT BEEN ISSUED ANYTYPE OF EYE PROTECTION OR BREATHING APPARATUS AGAINST THE FUMES THEY HAVE COME IN CONTACT WITH. WHERE IS OSHA!! I HOPE GOV.CHRIST WILL INFORCE OSHA STANDARDS WHERE CLEANUP IN THE STATE OF FLORIDA ARE CONCERNED!! from MILTON FLA by SUZANNE
Comment: NO! Our Military needs to be protecting our borders. Bill Nelson is loosing it. Our government knows nothing about about whats going on. The more government gets involved, the slower the cleanup will be. (Example) When being fired on in Afganastan the military have to call headquarters to see if the can fire back at the attacker. Our government leaders are in bad shape. by Janet
Comment: Absolutely not! The U.S. military has it hands full with enough stuff. Bring in England's military since the company is from their homeland. Let their soldiers/airmen fight a battle that a British company caused. by Steve
Comment: Yes, I believe the Govt should play a much stronger role. This is going to be ongong for quite some time. From the experts Ive talked to...hardly EVER does the first relief well hit its mark. It may be MUCH later than August before this comes under control. So much we DON"T know about the effects this will have short term, as well as long term. WE need someone POWERFUL in charge, that at least acts like they have our best interests at heart, and that certainly isn't Tony Hayward. from Pace, Fla by Jessica
Comment: Obviously BP hasn't the intelligence to stop it, and isn't it strange that their only solution to a fix will keep the well functioning? Who benefits from that? from Pensacola, FL by Cheryl
Comment: They might oversee it, but they do not have the experience to completely take it over. from FWB FL by Randy
Comment: The Military has its hands full already with 2 wars going. I think its time to get some of the foreign companies and Countries here helping with some of their new technology. from Fort Walton Beach Florida by Steve
Comment: This is not a Navy job. BP & the oil industry are the best to handle this. The government should put togather a team of professonals that know the oil business. They make sure BP has everything they need and doing the best they can. Politicians should stay home and support the states efforts. from Pace, FL by Gene
Comment: I think the military should assit in tne clean up but not be in control this should be left to the people with the technology knowledge. BP should not coordinate. We have already seen how these buffoons handle a crisis. by joe
Comment: Even though they have more people, what are they going to do that we can't? by r
Comment: We need to pull ALL resources available to save the land, water, and animals effected by this disaster. from Pensacola FL by Melissa
Comment: Not only should the military take over clean-up, Along with the bill, Obama should pull the plug on BP operating in the USA period. It's just shocking to realize we have greedy individuals ready to bet mens' lives on oil exploration without a stop-gap to prevent such a catastrophe as the one we now have in the Gulf. from Mary Esther, FL. by Tom
Comment: No because if the military takes over the cleanup then that could relieve BP of responsibility of any mistakes made during the cleanup and I just don't like that idea. from FL by Ronald
Comment: What can the military do, that is not already beeing done? from Panama City FL by Steve
Comment: NO that's not the military's job. The oil co. is responcible. It's thier job, they should take the lose in profit. The concumer should not have to pay for their mistake/ accedent. from P[ENS./FL. by DAVID
Comment: Why doesn't the military/coast guard deploy microbes instead of dispersants? We need to act now before it is too late. If the feds don't want to help, then the local government should take the initiative and deploy the microbes now. It is proven effective. Here is the link to a video that shows when Texas used it years ago. http://republicbroadcasting.org/?p=8811 from Pensacola, FL by Brad
Comment: It is not the military's job to clean up oil spills. The federal gov't should make BP hire their own clean-up boats vs. spending more tax payer dollars...We are going to pay plenty for this mess as it stands now. from Baker, FL by Earl
Comment: Clean up should be in the hands of the government and the military at BP's expense. BP should also be fined daily until they can stop the oil from leaking. It's interesting that the only way BP can control the oil is if they basically build a new rig. Sounds like they want to be re-established so we can't run them out of the Gulf. from Destin, fl by Adrian
Comment: I don't think the Military has the experience to deal with this kind of disaster. Unfortunately, we have to let BP clean up the mess they made. from Cantonment by Rene'
Comment: Let BP do there job. Or are we going to see how much money we can spend to do the job? from Milton, FL by Eugene
Comment: Absolutely not! Our government (president) just needs to hold BP's feet to the fire.this doesn't need to be put on our military. from Pace,Fl by Robert
Comment: I think the President should have had the military on stand by and ready to respond when this disaster happened! With adequate resources working in the Gulf to contain the oil we may not have been facing this mess washing onshore! The military may not have the know-how to deal with the spill but certainly could be utilized in protecting the shores and skimming the Gulf... from Milton by Jodi
Comment: The military should have been involved from day one...such as the reponse with Haiti. The Navy has professional divers and technology that could have resolved this issue within the first week. I do understand it is a mile underwater...but I do know decompression chambers could be used to help divers between different levels of water. Because of BP's lack of efforts to ask for help, the Gulf Coast will now suffer the consequences for years to come. from Pensacola, FL by Joe
Comment: This whole oil disaster, should have been declared a national disaster from the beginning. The worst case scenario in a closed door meeting with the Feds, April 27, 10, indicated in a Mobile Press Register article on May 1, that the worst case estimate was between 64k and 110 k barrels per day. Thus the feds and BP I am sure, knew the potential, and this was later confirmed with live video, which was finally released by the coast guard and BP about 3 weeks later. Thus at least as of April 27, all of the military services should have been put in play from naval vessels, to aircraft dropping absorbant boom, to merchant marine, and national guard, NASA, etc. Our 1990 Oil Pollution Act, mandates "that the Federal Government is required to direct all public and private resonses" Thus the Feds had the mandate from the beginning. They could have and should also have demanded huge numbers of super tankers equipped with the vacuuming equipment to contain the oil, which would have surfaced. These tankers are available from BP, other oil companies, and 13 other countries who have offered to help, and even the Navy has ships that could be used as skimmers. In the 1990s Arabian gulf spills, one that was larger than this one, had 85% of the oil vacuumed up, and taken to refineries. This is, the established protocol. Why has none of this happened, I susupect it has to do with the fact that we are not California, the Fl keys yet, or off the coast of Maryland. This has been stated in many articles. The current may take this to Mexico, Cuba, not to mention the look first taking it all around FL and up the east coast. What constitutes an emergency, I guess if a hurricane hits, they might all get the picture. from foley by appalled
Comment: I think whatever resources that are available should be deployed to clean this up before it reaches the disaster status on shore it has on the water. BP, the military, Exxon Mobile, and whoever has the ability to help should be involved....... The excuse that skimming could not be used the past few days beacause of the weather is a poor excuse. We have been at Perdido Key beach and the ocean has been beautiful. Sad, sad , sad.......... from Fernandina Beach, Fl by Tom
Comment: Yes if the military would have took over from day one this spill would have been stopped within 2 days, all they would have to do is implode the well just like we did in kuwait and we would not have this disaster. from Pensacola, FL by Michael
Comment: I agree with Mr. Gates this is not a military problem. Our priopity is to stop the pour. from Pensacola, Florida by Paul
Comment: let the prisoners do it and the military... from pensacola by kim
Comment: The military is stretched thin already, fighting wars on two fronts and protecting other interest of the United States. We ask so much of our military and their families already, BP is responsible for spill so BP should pay civilians or contractors to clean up the beaches or States should activate their National Guard Units. from pensacola, fl by E.
Comment: No the military should not be brought in,they have enough to do fighting 2 wars. There are plenty of unemployed people in our area BP should hire local unemployed and pay them well for the clean up. from Milton/Florida by Gayle
Comment: BP is responsible for stopping the oil leak, and paying for the cleanup, but the US government (military) is responsible fore protecting our coast/shoreline/wetlands. This would be the case if it were we were attacked. Defend our shores! from Orange Beach AL by Kelley
Comment: The Iranian people offered to let u.s. use thier oil spill clean up boats and B.O. refused the help. Why? from crestview by kaye
Comment: If you really think about it, the military has been cleaning up from some type of oil problem for awhile. After all we are trying to keep peace and keep our oil coming from the Dessert and we are risking life for it. Bring our troops home and save our own oil so we are less dependant on others! Better yet, let's go green and we have no need for another disaster or the oil from other lands. Now there is a thought, for the coming month "Independence" from Laurel Hill Florida by Bee
Comment: I don't think they should take over I think they should assist. The military has the extra equipment that BP does'nt.There should be more equipment. If Beach Polluters(Bp) would've followed directions and used four plugs instead of two then this could have ended forty days ago. from Pensacola/Fl by Ron
Comment: No, it's not their responsibility. BP should have their people down here cleaning up. If our local military wants to help then ok, but they shouldn't take over BP's mistake. Our military has their own jobs to worry about. from Pensacola, FL by Cindy
Comment: I can not believe you think B/P wants to stop the oil flow. They want to keep pumping it for profit. This is not the militaries problem. The Coast Guard is al ready there and that means the comander and chief knows whats going on.He needs to step up and make B/P fix this and seal the well now. from Milton by Mike
Comment: Yes! The National Guard of these states fighting the oil spill devastation at the very least. The Gulf Coast needs organizational expertise so local people can know how to help in the oil clean up efforts. from pensacola,FL by t.
Comment: This is National emergency due to a man-made disaster. The government needs to step up and decalre it to be so! from Milton/Florida by Jeremy
Comment: i am a military member stationed in jacksonville, from pensacola area. i think this sould be a huge concern. We were the first to respond in Haiti why cant we be the first to respond in our own country? The clean-up should be a top priority im tired of them being so worried who is going to pay for it. This is a unacceptable desaster we were not responsible for but we should do whatever we can to save our wildlife and our land. from jacksonville florida by james
Comment: I do not believe our military should be used in this manner. I do, however, believe that BP should pay the locals to do the clean up because we have an invested interest in how it is done! BP has deep pockets, and can afford to let the ones being most affected make money while cleaning up what we consider our Paradise that so many come to enjoy... from Gulf Breeze by Tammy
Comment: I was wondering why we can't do more then one thing at a time to stop the oil leak? There doesn't seem to be an urgency to get it stopped just an urgency to clean it up. There diffiently something wrong we this whole thing and the way BP and our government is going about to plug the hole. from Milton, Fl. by Caron
Comment: I don't understand why people want military here. It is an oil spill not a national crime crisis. Are we going to deploy our military to secure the "tar balls". Military ships are not equipped nor are they trained to secure the oil spill. My husband works for BP and people need to let them do their jobs and not jam up the gulf with alot of ships that can do nothing. Also people need to lay off of BP. We have been drilling in the gulf for years and no one gave a hoot, now people are following extremists that don't have a clue what is being done and what is not. People didn't care about the trash on the beach but now all of a sudden they are upset about the oil. Where were they when the beach was littered with trash. Doesn't make sense. from Cantonment by Shelly
Comment: BP has more experience dealing with oil spills. (Especially since they have more safety problems than any other oil company.) Although BP isn't doing the job I would like them to be doing, I don't believe the military could do any better because they have absolutely no experience with this. I do, however, believe BP and the government should accept the help from other nations that has been offered. This is no time for BP or for the US to 'go it alone'. After all the help we have given other countries, I believe it is time to accept some help. We need it. by Jennifer
Comment: Or maybe yhe queens Navy Duh from fl by Duh
Comment: BP is distorying the Gulf and we're just standing around watching. Control of our coastline should not be left to a foreign oil company with dollar signs in there mind. from Navarre Beach by Lennie
Comment: Bring them in,What ever it takes. We are talking about peoples livleyood.Do you know how many folks will lose there jobs from this?Pensacola is doomed. And the miitary should work with Bp in the effort to clean this mess up. from Pen Fl by Kim
Comment: I know in my heart that we have to do more than BP is doing! from Springfield MA by Janet
Comment: To call on the military for this operation would exhaust valuable national resources for no positive reason. With 30 years of military service I can verify that I was never taught or asked to learn anything about oil spill mitigation. The ONLY thing a military response would bring to the fight is un-skilled labor and equipment ill-suited for the mission. Nelson is off the mark with this suggestion. Let BP hire labor to do the clean-up and use our Military for Military mission. from Pace/Florida by Bob
Comment: ABSOLUTELY!!!! from Shreveport La by Micheal
Comment: I believe the military will do a better job, and be more efficient, set a bomb on the damn thing that will end it now! I watch the live feeds from the ROV's and today I see flames, why is that not being addressed. from Pensacola Perdido Key/Florida by Margo
Comment: I think that we need a strong command and control leader to manage resources, execute the clean up and help to prevent landfall...could be ex military. No one seems willing the separate the two problems..stopping the flow and managing the oil that has already leaked. Petraeus; Honore? managment of the spill itself is horrendous. Let BP focus on stopping the well. from memphis by ellen
Comment: No one has said anything about our marsh areas such as river field between penacola and pace, and can this oil make its way up esacambia and blackwater rivers and if so how far can it go from pensacola,fl by angie
Comment: Yes this is truly a HOMELAND Security job! Our land is being attacked and we would get more help if we were a foreign country! This mess should have been cleaned up before it got to the beaches. The next time any of our officials come down here give them a shovel! Ask Jimmy Buffet to write a song and lets see how many people come running down here to help us and donate money to help pay OUR out of work people to clean their mess up! If the government had been doing their jobs we would not have any of this to clean up.Bring our troops home to protect and defend us where they belong.Start trying some of these ideas people have about ways to clean this up..NOW DO SOMETHING!! I think Gov. Crist can at least call in the Nationol Guard .Call Kevin Costner and tell him to bring his oil cleaning machine and give it a try. I am sure Emmitt Smith will step up, since we all know how much he loves Pensacola. After all love is action, not just words. All the famous people that call Pensacola their home should get involved in the rescue..that is what it really is..a search and rescue.See there is another group that can be called in to help. I will be more than happy to do what ever I can. In the meantime..Mr. Buffet can have a free concert to be broadcast on chanel 3 so people can call in and donate money to help us clean up our beaches. When others are in need we, as americans run to them with our time and our money..now it is our turn. And we do not want to just be in anyones thoughts...like I said..give them a shovel! c c from Pensacola by Linda
Comment: Absolutely not! This is an environmental problem, not an attack by foreign troops. Get real. This would be Government and crew looking for a way to increase the emergency and command and control. No thanks! People, quit relying on government to wipe you for every problem your faced with. from Pensacola by John
Comment: Yes, somebody need too, the way it looks BP does not have the reliability to do it...it can be over seen closer if the military is involved more. from Fort Walton Beach Fl by Debra
Comment: I think the use of the military would help the public feel better about the lack of clean up, but I am not sure what the military could do. Would the military presences help BP better understand the seriousness of this disaster? from Pensacola, Fl by Dian
Comment: military is already involved .they have been involved from early on .and growing as they figure out were thy are needed. from pensacola by zito
Comment: WE NEED TO ALL COME TOGETHER TO FIX THIS.... ALL THE OIL COMP. NEED TO BE INVOLED IN THIS WE ARE THE usa we are strong we can make this better from gulf breeze by michelle
Comment: NO! You never hear from Bill Nelson unless something happens. He wants to be seen and heard now. He is partly the cause of this disaster for not doing his job in the first place. Wish he would go home and be quiet. He should be on the beach cleaning it up. Our military should be protecting our borders with force. from Molino by Lisa
Comment: I think BP needs help, and anyone that knows how to help needs to get off there butts and help. Don't just sit there looking like a deer caught in the headlights. This is your country. from Cantonment,Fl by Michelle
Comment: I believe there is already to much government, car industry, banks and now health care. They aren't doing any good with the things they have control of now. Probably better to leave it up to BP even though this is the worst man-made disaster ever so far. The name of the game is control, Government that is. Leave it up to BP. They know what they're doing, except for the retard the decided to make some short cuts that lead to this disaster. from navarre by rebecca
Comment: Sure, let's have the military do it. That's just about as bad as saying Obama should do more, or why hasn't Congress done something. People who make comments like this don't understand the technology and expertise involved; neither of which are possessed by the military or the government. Sending BP to fight the war in Iraq or Afghanistan would make just as much sense. Think before you talk. If you can't, then don't comment. from Navarre, Florida by Dan
Comment: It is urgent to get a LARGE fleet of skimming vessels to work-- should have been out there weeks ago. from PENSACOLA/FL by JOHN
Comment: The military are not janitors, they kill people and blow s**t up. Leave them to to what they do best. They are under paid and abused by our government as it is. from Cantonment, Fl. by Jeff
Comment: Only if BP pays the US Government in full immediately upon completion and continually during operations. from Pace by Jesse
Comment: All drilling in the gulf should be stopped there is to much to risk. Fish is a major food source and creates jobs.Americans are greedy and there is more money in oil so they will continue to drill. Now we all lose. Money cannot see and we cant see because all we see is money from baker, florida by john
Comment: You may want to use the Military, but only because you don't know what to do yourself. Get off the militaries back. They fight WARS for you. from Pensacola, Fl. by Franklin
Comment: I don't feel the military should clean up BP's mess. They made the mess and they should clean it up. This is not the governments responsiblity. from Crestview / Florida by T
Comment: This is not a job for the military because they do not have the proper equipment for it. Now if you want the military to see that BP does the cleanup and plugging that might make sense, but the US shouldn't have to buy the 6 million dollar robot plus other specialized equipment to go with it. The first thing Ch 3 needs to do is leave the reporting to Liz, Sara and the guys in the field and not let these greedy politicians such as Jeff Miller (who talks from both sides of his mouth and doesn't know the difference infrom oil to water) and Gene Vakentino who's just looking for votes. Keep the politicians out and let the reporters and scientist do the observations, and we'll get the straight story not what the greedy pols want us to hear. Lou Pensacola from pensacola fl by lou
Comment: no. this is a civil action, not military. from pensacola by jim
Comment: I do not think that the U. S. military should take over the clean-up efforts in the Gulf. BP has the equipment and knowledge and should be help accountable for all the clean up . If they are short on man power I feel that they should hired the people in this county and pay them well for clean up. from Cantonment by Gloria
Comment: they can help cleanup, build burms and oversee the operations done by bp. Why isn't enough being done to stop the oil from reaching the beaches. Here in Navarre there are no booms and not a skimmer in sight. from navarre,fl by c
Comment: Yes, as we can see BP isnt doing enough to get rid of it. from Pensacola/Florida by CorDarius
Comment: BP is responsible for the leak, clean up of this leak. BP has deep pockets. Let the government put pressure on them to do there part to contain and clean it up. from ft walton beach by jon
Comment: Being a Navy wife for 20 yrs. and a current DOD employee of 13 yrs, this is how I see clean up being played out if the military takes over. First, they will need more than just boats. Realizing this, after many committee meetings with researchers and specialists, the military will contract the job out. To the lowest bidder of course. That contractor will do half of the job, in order to keep half of the profits in pocket. The job will be over budget, over its projected time for completion and people will complain about the shortcuts and scams. Then the military and contractors will play the “it’s not our fault, it’s their fault” game. Then 30 yrs later, much like our local Superfund sites, no one will know what’s going on or who is responsible. Let BP finish what they started and leave the military for support or supervision if needed. from Pensacola, FL by Victoria
Comment: BP is doing a lousy job. It is more now than just a screwup. This affects economics, environmental, health issues. It is too big of a deal to expect the same company who didnt have measure in place just in case something like this ever occurred to trust them to clean up the mess. Our government is also doing a lousy job not to take the lead in such a massive disaster. Where is the NAVY? from Pensacola by Ethleen
Comment: The military doesn't have the expert knowledge of oil wells. the military can only produce the man power. from Navarre, Fl. by C J
Comment: I would love to see the military take over. They defientaly should take over. I think they would do better than BP who seems not to care about our ocean and wild life. If our military was in charge they would've stopped it from getting worse. That's what I believe. They wouldn't be slow like BP. Please let the military take over. Get this to stop. Thank You from Pensacola Florida by Amanda
Comment: They need to try and help if at all possible this is ridiculous from Navarre Fl by Wayne
