| 41.66% | Yes | |
| 58.33% | No |
Comment: This would not be right. He is just a child. The Kings brothers wasnt tried as an adult and they are out. He killed his father just like the Kings brothers killed their father. He need to be tried as a juvenile. from Pensacola/Florida by Princess
Comment: It saddened me to hear the "adult" decision. Until a motive is found, and family life investigated, I think he should be treated as a juvenil. from Pace, FL by Mary Ellen
Comment: There is obviously something very wrong with the Boy and he should try to be helped not just sent away for the rest of his life. His brother had problems and look what happened. I pray he gets the help he needs. from Pensacola by Jane
Comment: It depends on why he killed his father. With his brother killing himself, then him killing his father makes you wonder if there was something bad happening within their family circle. People do not kill themselves and/or kill their own parents for no reason. Something was going on in that family. Once the truth comes out then judge him by his crime. from Pensacola,FL by Michael
Comment: no they shouldn't, but then again we don't know what the circumstances were. How would a child fair in general population of prison? If convicted he should be held in an area with others his age. from Pensacola by Kathy
Comment: take alife, lose your life, thats how it should be,and maybe some of this nonsense would end.bring back the old west! from pensacola, fla. by john
Comment: he took his fathers lifr for no reason. he should be put away for life from pens, fl. by bob
Comment: I do not think that Warren should be charged as an adult. He was only 14 and even though his crime was very great he is only 14. from Pensacola by Leah
Comment: He knew exactly what he set out to do and that was to do harm or kill his dad and he did.He or anyone else that does this no matter the age should be tried the same. from Crestview by K
Comment: I belive any one thats take someone live should be hanged by the neck until his feet quit dangling. from Pensacola Fl. by James B.
Comment: Thats a hard one!The young teen is Just that a young teen!Just a little over a child and how is his mind?what age is it at?How much can he understand? These are all qusitions that need to be seen toWhat was the reason for him to do it to start? What kind of man was his dad? all of that should be seen to before trying him as adult.Because in a childs mind istotally differebt than an adult. from Brewton Al. by Barbara
Comment: Too many of our young people believe that because they are @ juvenile age they can do whatever & not worry abt. being procecuted. If they commit an adult crime, they should be charged as an adult! from Pensacola, FL by John
Comment: What do you think Mr. Williams 14-YOA Alex King- 12 YOA Derrick King- 13 YOA Which both were younger. The age is nothing new in the news anymore in the world. But for his brother to commit suicide earlier- somethings wrong with this picture. Its almost it would appear on one hand one son wanted to "get away" the other one "stood his ground"-not saying either was right. Something is definatly wrong behind closed doors. Murder is murder. Be it done mentally or with a gun. from Pensacola,FL by Flower
Comment: I think he's much to young and we do not know the whole story. They should look into his family life and the circumstances. from Pensacola, FL by Maxine
Comment: NO ITS NOT FAIR LOOK AT ALL THE OTHER PEOPLE THAT DO BAD THINGS THEY GET OUT SCOT FREE MOST THE TIME .MAYBE THE KID HAD A REASON TO DO IT HES JUST SCARED TO TELL I MEAN YA HE SHOULD GET SOME TIME BE NOT TRIED AS AN ADULT MAYBE SENT TO BOYS PRISON TILL 25-30 from milton/florida by mary
Comment: I said no because the official have never given or said why he killed his father. Who knows he may have had a very good reason...So how can we say what action should be taken at this time.. from niceville fl 32578 by robert
Comment: No,he had no prior trouble with the police. He needs help to understand what made him do this, not put in with Adult criminals. The system let him down. from Pace, Fl by Sharon
Comment: IF A PERSON COMMITS A CRIME REGARDLESS OF AGE OR GENEDER THEY SHOULD BE TRIED AND SENTENCED ACCORDING TO THE CRIME, NOT THEIR AGE. THAT IS THE PROBLEM THE LIBERAL SYSTEM PROTECTS THE JUVINAL OFFENDER INSTEAD OF HOLDING THEM RESPONCIBLE. from PENS/FL by DAVID
Comment: Justice is never served when a young child is incarcerated and tryed as an adult. The system is setup to provide very harsh adult punishment. It does not provide treatment and rehabilitation. Children should be under the control and care of trained juvenile justice professionals. My prayers go out to the entire Williams family. from Pensacola, Fl by Donna
Comment: yes, definately! from p'cola fl by h
Comment: It's obvious the boy has problems which didn't seem to be addressed. HOPEFULLY WHEN THE FACTS ARE ALL KNOWN IT WILL REVEAL WHAT LED HIM TO THIS ACT. from fl by pat
Comment: After seeing the way this child rolled his eyes when the judge was asking him questions, it is clear that this child is just that - a child. I hope he is getting psychiatric help. from Pace, FL by Pam
Comment: At 14, the brain is not fully developed. In particular, the frontal and prefrontal cortices are quite immature. Those areas are the areas responsible for monitoring emotions and planning and monitoring behaviors. This is one reason we do not want 14 year-olds consenting to sex, engaging in legal contracts, or engaging in other adult activities. We can't have it both ways...Maybe long-term mental treatment in a secure residential facility, but not life in prison. from Pensacola, FL by Sam
Comment: I do not understand laws that divide minors from adults ? Why even have the seperation ? Voting, Alcohol, ETC. from Gulf Breeze,FL by Steven
Comment: Scientific research has dramatically demonstrated adolescents are developmentally different from adults. While these are not innocent children, whose crimes should be excused, the uninformed nature of the immature adolescent should not be deemed as culpable as adults. Developmental Research has clarified that adolescent traits include deficiencies in decision-making abilities, greater vulnerability to external coercion and immaturity in handling emotional circumstances. "… The juvenile justice system was created both to hold young people accountable and to provide for their rehabilitation, yet the boundaries and distinctive features of juvenile justice have become dangerously unsettled in the past few decades. Far beyond any “safety valve,” automatic transfer laws sweep youth traditionally capable of benefiting from treatment and rehabilitation in the juvenile system into the adult system, where they are more likely to be harmed and to re-offend once released." (Models for Change: Systems Reform in Juvenile Justice) from Cantonment, Florida by Joan
Comment: yes because as a 17 year old by the time we're 14 we are in control of our own actions. He knew the minute he pulled that trigger he was wrong. from Pensacola/ Fl. by CorDaius
Comment: I personally feel that he knew exactly what he was doing. Fourteen year olds are not stupid and they know right from wrong. from Pensacola, FL by Stephanie
Comment: Aside from the obvious bible quote: "An eye for an eye...."; killing is WRONG. But in the event (one of reason) takes the life of another (regardless of the reason) he or she should be held accountable. Accountability (in my book) does include the death penalty. If our liberal-minded, God-ignoring countrymen would only see that 'taking a life is wrong and must be dealt with harshly and prudently. Thanks to our liberal friends in the law profession, we have 'death row' occupants now upwards of fifteen years---guess who's footing the bill for them? The taxpayer, who incidently is over-wrought with taxes anyway. YES, A FOURTEEN YEAR OLD HAS THE SENSE AND REASON TO TELL RIGHT FROM WRONG, barring any neurological disorder. from Mary Esther, FL. by Tom
Comment: Unfortunately age does not make a difference in the violence a person can create. Whether that violence is in Afgahanstan, Mexico, Russia or America. We are all responsible for our actions. from Ft Walton Bch, FL by Pat
Comment: He has enough common sense not to do that. That is wrong from Pace FL by Allen
Comment: While its terrible to think a "child" would do something so horrendous, and I wonder what has been going on in the house to make this boy do such a thing, we see more and more evidence of young people committing such heinous crimes. If they can do the crime, then they should do the time! from Pensacola FL by Bill
Comment: I think there's alot more to the story. by Jess
Comment: No a 14 yr old hasnt matured yet mentally, and besides a 14 yr old would be easyier to reinsert back into sociaty than a 35 yr old would be. and if they continue to charge 14yr olds as adults then the law needs to be changed from milton, fl by dana
Comment: I do not intend to make light of this crime. But, feel (especially compared to other family murder crimes committed in our area by juveniles), this case should be tried as a juvenile, not as an adult. Relying on the information provided this juvenile does not have the behavioral background that would indicate he be tried as an adult. Our prayers are with this family. from Gulf Breeze, Florida by Laura
Comment: I think a 14 yr old is too young to be tried as an adult. I know what he did was wrong, and he should be punished, but I don't think he realizes the consequences of his actions. from Pensacola by Gina
Comment: MURDER IS MURDER. THOU SHELL NOT KILL REMEMBER THAT. from PENSACOLA,FL by A J
Comment: The decision to try him as an adult came so quickly, I am not sure enough information was known. Like, why did his brother commit suicide at such a young age? How could a 14 year old boy be pushed so far as to kill his own father? It wasn't just pre-meditated murder, there is much more to the case. There too many good people making positive comments about this child for him to be called a "murderer". from Pensacola by Rosann
Comment: i believe if he did it on purpose then yes as long as he is aware of his actions but i don't think he should be housed with adults from pensacola, florida by crystal
Comment: If the crime was premeditated and no other factors involved and he just wanted to kill. Then yes. but based on the information in the media and hearing some of the background, there are some deep rooted issues with this family and need to be fully evaluated before making a decision on this child's life. from Pensacola FL by Jody
Comment: Depending on cicumstances the child might be justified but for the most part, the child is a child and just be treated as such. from Navarre, Florida by Susan
Comment: I think that if he reacted as self defense, then no he shouldn't be tried as an adult. If he made the "adult" decision to shoot his father, then yes he should be tried as an adult. from Walnut Hill/Florida by Megan
Comment: Normally I would say no, but due to the facts released and young Williams' statement I would have to say yes. from Pensacola, FL by Steve
Comment: No i don't because he isn't old enough to vote or drive.or drink or old enough to make decisions.I think it goes deeper.I think he needs help. from Pensacola,FL32507 by Barbara
Comment: if the do the crime they should do the time. for crime that he has done. if he was to serve a juvenile he would get out at the age of 18. from crestview by dan
Comment: No! His crime should not be over-looked but he his still a child. I feel like he can be charged and tried accordingly without being charged as an adult and having to sit in a jail with other adults. Thats just an ideal enviroment for a child. Im pretty sure he his feeling a great deal of pain as it is. from Pensacola, Fl by C
Comment: There has to be some kind of reason that this boy shot his father. Until that reason is known I don't think he should be treated as an adult. At that age they don't always think clearly about their actions. This child should be treated as such until ALL the facts are known. from Pensacola,FL by Lisa
Comment: My father taught me to shoot before I was eight years old and never really sressed that I should not shoot at another person or that it was wrong and yet I knew better. I am sure this kid knew what he was doing as well. Just because he is under a certain age doesn't change that!! from Pensacola/Florida by Roger
Comment: I believe more will come out during the trial. His young brother committed suicide 2 years ago. A student, something is very wrong. My prayers are with his and his family from Cantonment,Fl by Karen
Comment: No, he is a child. Sure he should know right from wrong but something was very wrong for this Child. from Pensacola, Fl by Gail
Comment: I think theres more to the story but this is a child that can be helped and live a productive life. I think this child's father was doing something to him and he feared for his life so i believe thats why he did what he did from pensacola, fl by walter
Comment: Yes but only if he killed his father because of something like not being able to use his cell phone or being able to go out. But I do not belive this is the case. I believe once this trail comes forth and he boy gives his testimony that a lot of things will come out and this child did the only thing he could do to get out of a terrible situation. I could be wrong but that is what I think at this time. from Niceville by NiteHawk
Comment: The suspect is a minor, he should be tried as one. He should be punished for what he did and he spending time in jail till the age of 50 would give him much time to think of what he did. A 36 year prison term, in my view, would be a sufficient punishment for a minor. from Pensacola, FL by Michael
Comment: After all the facts are sorted out I honestly can't say I do not agree with children being tried as adults. Each case is different and I know it is not an easy decision for a judge to make that call. Unfortunately, the 14 year old boy who shot his father is tragic but this child needs intense counseling in a controlled environment. Sending him to prison to be subjuct to all the negativity he may come out of prison with alot of suppressed anger if he ever does come home. The child needs help not prison. from Pensacola, Florida 32503 by David
Comment: He is just a child and I wonder what reason he had for killing his father? It saddens me that this could happen and the boy obviously needs help but does not deserve to spend the rest of his life in jail. from Gulf Breeze by Tina
Comment: I THINK WEAR-TV SHOULD -STAY- -OUT- -OF- -COURTS- BUSINESS PERIOD & WEAR TV SHOULD TELL WHY-BOY-KILLED-FATHER. PRay from PENSACOLA, FL by PAPA-RAY
Comment: Very rarely does a child shoot and kill someone without some major issues involved. His voice must be heard. I believe every first-offending child should have the opportunity of rehabilitation, counseling, and education within the juvenile justice system.
