Comment: the Farley Dam in Dothan Alabama has kept dothan a thriveing city from fl. by dee
Comment: I am strongly in favor of robust development of safe nuclear power plants. They will make us less dependent on foreign oil sources and victims of domestic oil companies' desire to drive oil prices higher and higher. It is something we should have doing for the past thirty years. from Pensacola Beach by Tom
Comment: NO, NO, no, not with all the crazys in the world today. At least not here in Escambia county, Florida. from pensacola by georgia
Comment: When is everyone going to get wise. This financial misfit burning the American Visa card and has not created squat since he has been in office -needs to get a job he is qualified for.Stay at home mom! Its damned sure not running a country and running our generation and next into bankruptcy. A friggin finaicial misfit. from Pensacola,FL by Flower
Comment: Our electric rates are high enough without having to pay for a new power plant.25 years ago when I lived in New Hampshire they built the Seabrook nuke plant and everyone had a extra charge called a quip charge added to there electric bill.Quip stood for construction in progress and everyones rates doubled years before the plant ever put out any power. from Pensacola by Todd
Comment: Nuclear energy is much safer then it was 30 years ago. It's also cleaner, producing less green house gasses. The only downside is the disposal of the spent nuclear fuel. from Pace, FL by Ryan
Comment: I beleive it's a cleaner energy source. from Pensacola,Fl. by David
Comment: We need clean energy, nuclear power will give us that. from Pace/FL by M
Comment: I dont feel anything nuclear can be safe or cheap. We have enough wind in this area to use wind turbines to generate electricity safer and cheaper. from crestview, florida by alex
Comment: Have we totally forgotten Chernobl and Three Mile Island? Coal pollutes the air and water and they tear down mountains to get it. Electricity produces pollution of the air and maybe the water. The point is neither coal nor electricity kill us generally except over a long period of time. Radiation is lethal if you are exposed accidentally or on purpose, and the wind blew the pollution from Chernobyl over a lot of the world. I disagree with the Southern Company and Gulf Power building a nuclear power plant anywhere near me and my family!!!!!! Now they are saying the storage of spent uranium may not be stored at Yucca Mtn. Nobody wants the waste near them, except for those who think they will get good jobs working there. If they decide to store on site, they say the containers will probably contain the radioactive waste for about 90 years. I believe the half life of radioactive materials is 24,000 years. No, No, No. I hope they build the less dangerous usual power plant near Century instead of a possibly deadly nuclear power plant that will make us a target for terroists even more than the Navy base being here. I hope and pray that they DO NOT build a nuclear power plant near Century and near me and my family!!!!!!!!!!!!! from Pensacola, FL by Lee
Comment: How can a power plant that produces dangerous waste material that contaminates into future generations ever be considered clean energy? from Pensacola, FL by Carolyne
Comment: Nuclear power may be clean...but what happens if there is an accident at one of these so-called "safe" power plants? Would we be looking at another Chernobyl? from Pensacola, FL by Susan
Comment: For once I agree with President Obama. It is about time that the United States restarted its nuclear energy program. The rest of the world has left the U.S. behind in generating nuclear power. I have worked in some of these plants and can confirm that the U.S. nuclear plants are the safest in the world. from Navarre, Fl. by Curtis
Comment: Wasn't Chernobyl lesson enough? We need to figure out how to live without the danger of nuclear power & it's waste! from Double Springs, AL by Susan
Comment: don't worry about a thing when that new chernoble goes in your backyard- the same people who looked out for you in the banking employment and health bill will take dandy care of you if your still breathing not to worry - we placed an opportunity to destroy the backbone of our entire military in our enemies hands so we can save a nickel on our power bill from navarre florida by elmer
Comment: i think the technology has advanced enough to safe guard the people from the reactors in the case of emergencies...wonder how much the energy bill will go down? not much i guess... from p'cola fl by h
Comment: Nuclear power would be a great thing for the area. Bring much needed jobs and an abundance of clean power from Pace by Brian
Comment: As long as we have the technological know-how, and the raw materials to do the job, why not? This would also aid our economy in provided jobs for workers (to build the facilities), and workers to man the facilities once they are developed/built. Then too, we have jobs for the security industry: surely there will be some disgruntled moron who will try to "hamper" nuclear production with some cock-a-mamie story about his fourth generation out grandchild suffering from asthma, or some such nonsense. I say, if we can do it and it will ultimately help us, why not go for it. from Mary Esther, FL. by Tom
Comment: We need to do everything possible to cut down on our dependence for ARAB oil. from Pensacola/FL by Leonard
Comment: With all the technology out there this should be the last one. from Pensacola by Karen
Comment: Fovor as long as there are no short cuts on safety or quality from Cantonment, Fl by Michael
Comment: Build Baby, Build from Ft. Walton Beach FL by Roger
Comment: The cleanest & safest resource for electric power generation. from Gulf Breeze, FL by Hughey
Comment: The closed loop pressurized water design which I worked on at Westinghouse is the safest type. Westinhouse build the reactor for the first nuclear powered Sub. The worst design is the Russian type which has a chemical instead of water. The welds have to be absolutly perfect because if water makes contact with the chemical...BOOM!!! from Cantonment, Fl by Tom
Comment: Its either nuclear power plants or more refineries... we have enough oil, we need more ways to process it... more refineries OR do better with nuclear power plants... so much for developing wind and solar ... from pensacola by denise
Comment: My only comment is, shouldn't we check first, to see if there will be nuclear waste and if so how will it be disposed of? from Milton, Fl. by Caron
Comment: About time. A good, safe, and clean source of renewable power. It will provide a wide range of good paying short term construction and long term plant operation jobs. from Pensacola Fl. by Don
Comment: I do not know enough about it to really comment on it but if it will lower the energy cost for consumers and is safe I'm in favor of it. But with few people losing their minds I would hope that no one ever decides to fly a plane into a nuclear plant. What would happen if that were to happen? What if, what if, what if. from Pensacola,FL by Michael
Comment: although i don't agree with hazardus waste i feel i could give people more jobs which means more money for the state from navarre by rex
Comment: I can't beleive WEAR just spent eight [8] minutes on Tiger Woods. Give me a break.
Comment: Having served on nuclear submarines, I can attest to the safety aspect of nuc power plants. If proper maintenance is performed, under strict supervision, we have nothing to fear from nuclear plants. The decline of dependence on foreign oil would be very beneficial. from Gulf Breeze, FL by Don
Comment: It is essential that the U.S. build MANY nuclear power plants along with drilling for oil to lessen (hopefully to eliminate) our dependence on foreign oil to fuel our homes and cars and factories. Obama is talking a big talk but not walking the walk. He is making money available but on the other hand doing all he can do to block the contruction such sites by closing the spent fuel facility that we have already spent millions on establishing. He talks a big lie and gets by with it. from Pensacola, Fl by Oscar
Comment: Should have been building them the last thirty years! from Pensacola, FL by J
Comment: I'm for the new power plant. If its Nuc Or Natural gas. Natural gas would be prefered & Nuc as a back up.Nat gas is readily availible underground. Why not use it? Coal is expensive to have delivered by barge. Coal causes destruction of mountains & hill sides. Natural gas burns the cleanest. As for the Nuc waste, Maybe it can be desposed of in the Hottest place on earth, A active volcano. Nothing can withstand that. from Milton, Fl. by Brian
Comment: Yes and Pensacola on Pensacola Bay and White Point on Chotwhatchee Bay are excellent locations for fast bleeder reactors. from Bluewater Bay, FL by Bruce
