Open Containers: Do you support or oppose the crackdown on open containers of alcohol on Pensacola Beach?
| 47.05% | Support | |
| 52.94% | Oppose |
Comment: I support the open container crackdown only if the individual display's the inability to control him or herself. I do believe that it is okay to drink in designated areas of the beach as long as you can control yourself and not become an idiot! from Pensacola FL by John
Comment: I support the crackdown, even though I do enjoy a beer every now and then; I learned many years ago--you don't drink in public. Drinking inside a bar is one thing, but out on the beach (in my opinion) perpetuates 'public drunkenness'. We have all been raised to know better. All that remains is to get law enforcement (in general) to enforce it. from Mary Esther, Fl. by Tom
Comment: I completely oppose this!! There should be no reason for banning open containers of alcohol on the actual beach as long as there is no glass!! Sunning on the beach with a cold beer should not be illegal! from Fort Walton Beach, FL by Dee Dee
Comment: I think it is a bad idea during the Mardi Gras season. If they are trying to stop fights that is not going to do it. If people are going to fight they are going to whether they drink in a bar or in the parking lot. Many probably wont come and so businesses will lose business and if the businesses lose the state does too. Someone dropped the ball when they didnt get a permit and if someone did apply for one then the county screwed up by not giving the permit. And will those on floats get in trouble when they drive into the parking lots and while they are getting the floats ready. Tyranny is what it is. from Gulf Breeze, FL by Rachel
Comment: no comment from Milton by Ronald
Comment: i support the crack down, because there are families with children that are on the beach and they shouldn't have to be around drunks. the families are there to have fun you don't have to get drunk to have fun. from pensacola fl by noel
Comment: Good Escambia county the whole deal with the parade is drinking so now they can stock the jail or bank some big bucks.I am glad I dont drink so I dont have to worry about the littlr green men.Pensacola come on vacation leave on probation, soon to return for a violation of that probation what a gimic!! from pace by Robert
Comment: when u cut the fun out, u loose business, i will not go. tom s. from century/fl by tom
Comment: I find it very interesting that the Sheriff decides to enforce a law that has been ion the books for several months, especcially this weekend when the Mardi Gras parade will draw 100,000 people to that area. Start limiting it people will go else where. Why not arrest those that are causing problems, as opposed to punishing everone, in the Air Force we used to call that the shotgun approach to managing a situation, punish everyone just to get a few. from Navarre, Fl by Wayne
Comment: I think it should be a law & enforced everywhere in open public. from pensacola, fl by john
Comment: The law should apply to everyone. That goes for downtown Pensacola also. Police arrest you for open container violations except for certain events in Pensacola. No exceptions regardless of who you are. from Pensacola, FL by Frank
Comment: Everyone needs to go elsewhere or stay home. See how long the open can deal lasts. It all a money thing. A opened can of beer never killed, maimed, provoked anything or anyone. Now if we adopt a " open container law" and pay 100 bucks up front....it would be all ok wouldnt it. from Pensacola,FL by Flower
Comment: Drinking is LEGAL! People should be able to party wherever and whenever they want to. DUI squads are an invasion of privacy. Go Obama!! from East Hill by Mike
Comment: Sounds like Escambia county will do anything to get a few $$$. What a bunch of whores from Pace by James
Comment: Should not the same ordinance apply to the mardi gras in Pensacola. Will the same enforcement occur there.I have heard no news of such.As an event to attrack and promote business this becomes negative to the public. from P'cola by Thomas
Comment: It's the beach. The whole point of go to or living on the beach is to enjoy a more "laid-back" style. As long as puplic drunkeness laws are enforced what's the problem? If this "crack-down" occurs, the SRIA should get NOTHING from it. That group should be disbanded & a city government formed. from Gulf Breeze, FL by Leave
Comment: it is a shame that we can't trust people to leave the beach with the same items they bring to the beach. if anything it will be one less thing polluting our waters and beaches. now if we can get them to remember thier food containers, toy wrappers and beach chairs etc. why can't they utilize the numerous trash cans? from orange beach, al. by brian
Comment: Too many people don't know when to stop. They spoil it for the others. from Gulf by Ann
Comment: Last year I believe the crowd numbers during Mardi Gras parade was 25000-30000 people on the beach, and around 20 were arrested, My math could be wrong but, that computes to .5%, what are these idiots worried about??? How long has this open container law been on the books? I'm sure several years, so who has been running the show? Sounds like someone hasn't done their job, that they have been paid for. But now who ever this person is you want to impose fines on people who enjoy a cold one, sling a few beads and enjoy the beach, whoever you are don't forget, not only do the people that don't drink pay your salary, but the people that drink also pay it, you need to come up with a better solution!!!!!!!!! from g. breeze by don
Comment: They arrest people for herbs 100x's less inhibiting than this one Alcohol. This is a DRUG and should be made totally illegal It Kills those who drink it and innocent bystanders through car accidents, beatings etc...There was a reason Indians named it FIREWATER I will never be for any type of Alcohol I have seen and lived the damage MY 3 CENTS from Pensacola by NoAlcohol
Comment: Deputes have a job keeping peace.. So this should help control many outings.. from n/f by r
Comment: i support it! it will stop most of these irresponsible people away from the public...do some of these folks realize what an idiot they look like when they are drunk in public? and it seems like alcohol ALWAYS makes obnoxious people more obnoxious and angry people more angry...i just wonder how many people are out there as a direct result of someone being too drunk one night at the bar.festival/mardi gras? from p'cola fl by h
Comment: Drinking in a bar is fine, but in the open or on the beach is just wrong. from Pensacola/Florida by Joseph
Comment: will this year be the last year for parade on the beach?
Comment: Too many young people drinking at the beach. from Milton/Fl by Jack
Comment: “OPPOSED!!!! OPPOSED!!!! We all know how avoid the "Open container" law....and be responsible with our consumption (the masses do anyway). But as usual it appears the "few" will always do something to ruin the fun. What's next? We get nailed for Public Drunkenness at a Mardi Gras Parade? Do they have enough manpower and time for that? I do have to say I love the ingenuity of what they are calling their new “Fundraiser”. The officer who came up with it deserves a raise!!! “ from Pensacola by Marcia
Comment: Is Escambia County having financial troubles? I do not recall there being much violence on the beach. Just a few incidents. Escambia County should be more interested in cracking down on gangs, prostitution and drugs instead of people just having a fun celebration. This is going to hurt tourism on the beach. Escambia County needs to put their priorities in order. from Pensacola, FL by Jeanine
