Rebuilding Haiti: Do you believe it's America's responsibility to help Haiti rebuild?

23.8% Yes
76.19% No

Comment: We (the US) should help with the initial rescue efforts only. Private sector charities and other simular agencys should step up and help. It is not the job of the US govt to rebuild Haiti. from Milton by Jim

Comment: No, it's Americas responsibility to help America Rebuild... from pensacola, Fl. by clay

Comment: I believe it is everyone's responsibility to help Haiti. Why would anyone even ask such a question? I know I would want to be helped if my family members and I were in an earthquake? Most people are for themselves these days and should take a look at themselves in the mirror. We have to have compassion, not just exist. from Pensacola, FL by Iris

Comment: No I don't think we can afford to help out anymore. We have already sent more than a billion dollars and they are expecting us to send 10 BILLION MORE? What happened to taking care of your own? We need help for people here in Pensacola and can't get that, how can they dignify sending more to other countries and letting us just fend for our self's and shrug their shoulders as if WE the AMERICAN people don't matter? My heart goes out to each of them as it has to all the other disasters, but enough is enough. from Pensacola, FL by Dee

Comment: Not when we have so many people here in our own country out on the streets and hungry. from gs, alabama by d

Comment: NO-CREATE SOME WORK FOR THE PEOPLE OF THE U.S.A. WE NEED MORE WORK HERE AND MORE HEALTH CARE, LESS GOVR HOLLIDAYS. PEOPLE ARE LOSING THEIR HOMES, CARS, AND EVERYTHING. WE NEED HELP. FIX THE THINGS HERE FIRST, from pensacola, fl by john

Comment: NO... Why do we keep helping EVERYONE else but do not help OUR OWN in need. Our homeless, children and just about everyone else in the current economic state could use assistance. This current economic state is placing more and more Americans out on the street. Yet we still to continue to plunge our country into further debt by helping OTHERS... from navarre by k

Comment: Absolutly not. It isn't the United States's "responsibilty" to rebuild any country. What has any country done for us in time any of our natural disasters. The only thing that any country has done for the US is take our jobs. I don't think Haitian orphans should be brought to the US either. There are plenty of US born kids in need of good homes. from Navarre by Bill

Comment: TOO MANY PEOPLE AROUND THE WORLD SEEM TO THINK THE USA IS RESPONSIBLE FOR AND MUST CORRECT EVERY WOE THE COMES ALONG WHILE AT THE SAME TIME PROMOTING UNKIND WILL TOWARDS THE USA. WE ARE NOT 'RESPONSIBLE', BUT WE ARE OBLIGATED BY OUR MORALS AND HONOR. IT WOULD JUST BE NICE IF ONCE IN A WHILE THOSE RECIEVING THE HELP WOULD SOMETIMES SHOW APPRECIATION INSTEAD OF ACTING LIKE SPOILED DEMANDING CHILDREN! from PENSACOLA, F; by WILLIAM

Comment: Though my thoughts and prayers go out for the people of Haiti and I think we should give aid I don't think we should be spending our dollars to help them rebuild. Our government is willing to give millions to other countries for assistance while not showing the same compassion and willingness to help it's own citizens. from Pensacola, FL by Steve

Comment: No I just think we have more than enough problems in the USA where the help is needed, we always seem to run to aid others and we have major issues right here from Pensacola by Nicole

Comment: Hell no, it's not our responsibility! Look at our own situation with the economy in the tank, the Feds spending our grandchildren into poverty before they are even born, and the double digit unemployment. This is akin to snatching food out of the mouths of our own starving children to feed the children of someone else. Sorry, but we have to help our own before we even think about helping another nation. from Cantonment, Fl. by Jeff

Comment: i'm sorry this happen to them, but if u.s.has taking care of everyone else except the people in the u.s. that needs help.the hard working people is tired of surporting everyone. from milton by b.s

Comment: All the resources of the United States could not make Haiti a viable country. Every "leader" has raped this cesspool. from pensacola, fl. by calvin

Comment: I would like to know just how many homeless and out of work Americans this amount of money would help. As long as we are having the problems we are, we should be helping our own people. When we get our problems solved we can help others. By the way, who helps us when we have disasters? from Pensacola, FL by Jean

Comment: Yes, I think we should help them but I am not sure of the amount of money we have pledged. I think we along with the U.N. should establish some criteria as far as getting homes built and helping establish a better infra-structure in the country. from Niceville, FL by Patricia

Comment: I don't think it is a matter of responsibility but rather helping fellow human beings if we have the means. from Pensacola, FL by Susan

Comment: americans never walk away from need ,and never when the need is so horrendous. by dee

Comment: Corruption still exists in Haiti, History has proven that funds given to Haiti have been mispent and wasted because of corruption. from Lillian,AL by Edward

Comment: yes with a limit...it really should be the UN's job to help rebuild this nation with a stable government...but then again...this nation got into the "nation building" business once we got involved in the middle east... from p'cola fl by h

Comment: Yes it is our responsibility to help anyone that needs our help. Several countries have helped the U.S. when tragedies have struck. However, our government isn't doing enough here at home to help OUR homeless and OUR hungry. from Pace, FL by Bonnie

Comment: yes,we should help but,we the people of america are still in need of assistance and we should worry about our problems like jobs and homeless here!we have to fix us before everyone else from pensacola by bigmamma

Comment: I think it a responsibility to offer assistance; which is a whole other world away from the responsibility of 'rebuilding' the country. To offer and give necessary assistance is one thing, but to assume rebuilding will generate some kind of a political favor is quite another that we shouldn't even assume. from Mary Esther, FL. by Tom

Comment: I do not believe it is the responsibility of America to rebuild Haiti. It is a humanitarian gesture to assist them with the rebuild. The American Pulbic has been very generous with donations and assistance. I do not believe it is an obligation of the Country itself. I am a proud American and glad we could give the assistance they needed but at some point it will need to fall to the companies that have received the donations to follow through. Our tax dollars are stretched at this point. Teachers, police officers, and other state, county, and federal employees are having to make sacrifices because there is not enough funding to pay them. It is becoming time for the government to pull back and allow the relief agencies to handle the rebuild.

Comment: It's okay to give some help, but not rebuild. The last time I looked it's not part of the USA. We have people dying here because of no home and job. Why can't we fix our country first? from Pensacola/FL by Leonard

Comment: for years i have seen help sent over seas.i feel for those in need, but what about the needed right here at home. we need jobs, food and housing too. when can we start helping our own? from milton,fl by larry

Comment: I hate it about Haiti. But lets be realistic we have so many people here in America that need help. Everyday I see a family at the hospital that does not know how they are going to come up with the next meal. Let the money help our own first. by Donna

Comment: We should not be the world's policemen nor the world's guardian. However, if private individuals have the means and the desire to make voluntary contributions, they should be encouraged to do so. from Ft Walton Beach by Roger

Comment: I am all for helping people. But when is our goverment going to start helping the homeless & hungry people in our own country. We have so many people that our out of work and cant feed their families. Why isnt our President helping them. He is too busy traviling & helping everyone else. from Crestview, Fl by Pam

Comment: NO! Let France do it. It used to be their Colony not ours. from Ft. Walton Beach, Fl. by Bob

Comment: i don't think it's our "responsibility" but i think it is the only right thing to do. i know how i felt when people from all over the nation helped us after IVAN. from pensacola, fl by steve

Comment: Only if they become 51 state from milton, fl by fred

Comment: It is everyone's responsibility, WE ARE THE WORLD!!!!! from Pensacola, Fl by Janet

Comment: Yes. We are there helping the injured we can not just leave with out helping them get back on there feet. My son is there transporting the injured he is in the coast guard out of Clearwater, Florida. I with I was there to help also. My prayers go out all. from Crestview, Florida by Stacie

Comment: We've spent billions over the decades keeping them out of this country, and our system can't handle the extra burden now. They are a health care nightmare, we can't handle what we're up against now. from Daphne by Mark

Comment: I don't believe so much in responsibility, I feel it is our duty to help those who are less fortunate than us. I've been unemployed and worry about my future, but I have a place to live and food to eat. Folks in Haiti can't say that. from Pensacola, Fl by Eric

Comment: No, it is not our responsibility to rebuild Haiti while our own country is going down the drain. Spend that money on helping the American people who are homeless, starving, and desparately needing help themselves. Help the USA first, then help other countries. We have sent people, supplies, a hospital ship, and more which is all great, but enough is enough. The US is not the only country in the world, others can help Haiti financially. from Pensacola, FL by Deborah

Comment: Absolutely not. from gulf breeze, FL by denny

Comment: Save lives, deliver relief and then get out and let France REBUILD as it is French enclave.... from Crestview,Fla by Lewis

Comment: The USA is not the worlds policeman, nor the worlds bank, nor the worlds caretaker. We should help yes, but we are not "responsible" to rebuild for them. from Pensacola by John

Comment: It is not our 'resonsibility', it is our priveledge to help from our abundance. We have so much to share. from Pensacola by Anna

Comment: Well I believe that since the United States feels the need to try to control change and help do everything else then it only makes sense to atleast try to help do something that absolutely needs to be done by helping those in Haiti. from Cantonment/Fl by Kyle

Comment: Its the commandment of the Bible to help others. America the Beautiful! from Pensacola, Fl by Harvey

Comment: Of Course we should be helping Haiti. Everything we can do to assist those people we should do, and rebuilding that nation would add economic relief to that nation. This would help the economic relief not only to them, but to the carribean. from milton by carol

Comment: NO!! WHY does America think it's her job to save everybody else?? If we had a surplus and our own were taken care of first, then I'd say yes. But not since our country is already in so much debt, and there are so many of our own people hurting. from Pensacola, FL by Joyce

Comment: I believe it's time for the United States to get out of the goodwill business and get back to the business of rebuilding America. from Pensacola, Fl by John

Comment: We have our own problems here in the U.S. I feel bad about the disaster in Haiti, but we need to think about us before other countries. from Pensacola, FL

Comment: While it would be "nice" to rebuild Haiti, it is NOT America's responsibility. Where are the "globalists" now....let the UN step in and rebuild? Why America? Our Nation is in no position, economically, to do this now. Giving initial relief aid, of course - "nation rebuilding" - absolutely not. from Crestview, FL by Frank

Comment: The United States needs to rebuild and feed a lot of people here. Our Government don't seem to care about us. We have the most corrupt Government than we have ever had in the history of the U.S.. So there is no telling whats going to happen next. from Pensacola by Beverly

Comment: America should help Haiti through this diiffcult rescue & recovery effort but We should not be solely responsible for the rebuilding process, especially with the current economic situation in our country. from Pace,Fl by Robert
