Pregnant Troops: Do you agree with a military policy that punishes pregnancy?

56.86% Yes
43.13% No

Comment: Not able to perform duties. Females should not be in the military.......... from milton by r

Comment: I do not agree at all! How can you punish some one for bringing life into this world! They should be brought to the U.S. if they are over seas but should not be punished! Supporting our troops all the way! from Perdido Key, Fl by Crystal

Comment: The statement above is sufficient for the cause. Soldiers are in a wartime zone and no other explaining should be needed. from Pensacola, FL 32514 by Arthur

Comment: That is stupid why don't we just do like China did and allow only one child, if a boy, and kill all girls. Hum that sounds just as smart. Oh what about the guy who impregnated her does he get a dishonorable discharge I mean it does take 2. One is forgetting about safety for the mother and child and appropriate age to have one with less health risk to both. Oh also what about most of military personal come from military families. This is a hugh violation and must have been suggest from a man, no offence, cause that kind of comment is ignorant and obserd. Call up Isreal ask them how and what they do? from FL by Laurie

Comment: I don't think they should be court Martialed. It happens everywhere else. Look at the mgrs at Walmart the have the biggest double standard. They are over there to fight. They should be sent to a non violent job and be able to retire for the country they love. They deserve their retirement because they are there to do a job that most are scaredto do. If I were healthy I would be right on the front line. I also think that they are old enough to use the proper protection. We should praise each and every man and woman over there and pray for their safe return. from Cantonment,Florida by David

Comment: First lets get the statement correct...They are not being punished for being pregnant, they are being punished for disobeying a direct order. Channel 3 continues to try and sway public opinion through leading questions. Male and female troops are not allowed to co-habitate, it is not a dating service, it's a military service. Additionally, need to stress that the females are not recieving a "dishonerable discharge" but rather a general discharge. from Navarre by Dennis

Comment: Men @ women join the military to fight for our country. A lot of time and money goes into training a combat ready soldier, this should not be compromised by pregnancy. I believe if a woman gets PG she should be d/c and so should the co-opting party. from lillian Al. by karen

Comment: If their single and on active duty it should be a court martial for not being fit for duty one hundred percent.. from Niceville fl by Robert

Comment: It is a God given right for a woman to bear children. It is her choice to bear arms. No man or woman should punish another human for populating this Earth with children who may one day decide to be a soldier! I do believe birth control is a womans choice not to be used as a demand. from Jackson,AL by Ya-Ya

Comment: Why should our women be punished when it takes two make a child? From what I have read many of the women in service are raped by their male counter parts often by higher ranking officers in the military . It's typical double standards praticed by military and congress/senate any thing to cover up miss conduct of their behavour. from Pensacola/Fl by Kevin

Comment: sad to see that alot of the military personnel today are in the military services for the job security and benefits...not for the the actual "security" of this nation... from p'cola fl by h

Comment: Tough rule to defend. Some women take advantage of this to avoid sea duty or other deployments they wish to avoid. From a command point, it is difficult to plan when troop strength is not firm. from Gulf Breeze, FL by Don

Comment: I agree with the policy, being a retiree I have seen many women abuse the old policy because they didn’t want to get deployed. And if they are deployed and get pregnant then the mission may be compromised and could cause many military members their life, and we don’t need to lose anymore lives over situations that can be prevented. Men should be charged as well it takes two to people. from Pensacola by Mike

Comment: People who join the military these days are not always there to serve our country, many want the benefits of the military while not having to give anything back. It's not too much to ask them to do the job they are paid to do. from Crestview FL by Bill

Comment: General order 1 says no sex. They are disobeying an order from the Joint Force Commander. You failed to mention the father of the baby is getting punished as well. from Navarre, FL by Doug

Comment: When a person willingly chooses to defend their country, that person must accept the rules of the government and follow any new rules. Bottom line is that this directive is not indefinite, and is meant to protect troop strength. For these reasons I agree with it. from Ft. Walton Beach by Brian

Comment: The press and everybody else needs to leave this General alone. While in a combat situation every member of your unit has a job to do and without them, it puts everybody in a dangerous situation. There is no time outs in the rules of engagement for morning sickness or anything else. The troops minds need to be focused on fighting the war and not on having sex while in a combat zone. from Pensacola by Bill

Comment: If it involves getting pregnant in combat zones, you betcha. Pregnancy, although a natural occurance within the female gender; should not be condoned of anyone serving their country and 'using it as a crutch' to get out of fulfilling a military committment/obligation. If someone were to really investigate, I bet that is why women (in our country) were forbidden from serving in combat. But our congress, in its' infinite wisdom saw fit not to listen to military commanders (as usual). from Mary Esther, FL. by Tom

Comment: I don't think the General should be able to tell his Female troops what they can do when there home on leave, I understand they're needed but just as well there human and things happen but that's for God to decide not him from crestview, fla by james

Comment: This was the first time that the needs of the mission were the priority. Too many times women have used their ability to get/be pregnant to skip out on their turn for not so lovely duties and then men have to overdo their turns for the not so fun duties and miss out on their family life. from Cantonment, FL by Carolyn

Comment: I fully support the policy When troops are deployed to a war zone they are not there to sow their wild oats and should have enough discipline to refrain from such activities. I have heard female troops threaten to purposely get pregnant simply so they would have to be sent back to the states. Whe you join the military you make a committment to support and defend at all times not just when it's convenient for the individual. Keep up the good work General! from Navarre, FL by Tim

Comment: Certainly. It is just as much a punishable offense as shooting onesself in the foot to avoid combat. They are both self inflicted wounds in as much as you no more send a pregnant worman into combat as you would a wounded male counterpart. The woman had a choice to become pregnant or not. Don't tell me that it could happen by accident, because having sex with someone is not an accident. As to punishing the male counterpart that becomes a matter of fraternization which also has been forbidden (but overlooked mostly) for all military history of the United States. from Pensacola, Fl 32505 by Oscar

Comment: You can't discipline people for yielding to the temptation to propagate the race. A God given temptation. from Ft Walton Beach by Mark

Comment: NO, I do not agree. The military "owns" you as it is, they should not be allowed to tell you if you can or cant have a child and when. from Crestview, FL. by Willis

Comment: I know of NO other Country that would do That to their Troops!! They Support the U. S., and yet when something comes up like this, they want to Pull the Rug out from Under them!! RIDICULOUS!! Would they have done that in WWII, or Korea?? Give me a break, make more Explicit instructions not more STUPID RULES, we get ENOUGH of that from the Present Administration, and I'm NOT just talking the Obama here!! from Pensacola, FL by Mary Agnes

Comment: Absolutely! The military's effectiveness and readiness should not be compromised for any reason within a soldier's control! If a military unit is short staffed because they are missing soldiers due to pregnancy, then that put's other soldier's lives at risk. Obviously it has become such an issue that they have had to lay down the law. from Pace by Michelle

Comment: I AM 100% AGAINST THIS POLICY. THIS IS THE MILITARY NOT A CHURCH GROUP OR OTHER GROUPS THAT REGULATE SITUATIONS SUCH AS THIS. I SERVED 20 YEARS IN THE ARMY AIRBORNE INFANTRY. FROM MY POINT OF VIEW THIS RULE IS IDIOTIC. from PENSACOLA/FL by EARL

Comment: Hitler would be proud of this bull crap. from Pensacola,FL by William

Comment: They are there to serve our country. They know that going in.Pregnancy is a distraction no one over there needs. from fort walton beach by trisa

Comment: I think it should be treated just like any other job and allow the pregnant woman to go on leave while she is pregnant and cannot return until at least 6 wks after the baby is born or until she has fully recovered and with a doctor's note. I have heard of the 3 month maternity leave or is it 6 months? Anyway, they should be treated fairly just like any other job out there. from Pace, FL by Pam

Comment: As a former Naval Officer and a Maintenance Officer I can sympathize with the Commander. He is assigned personnel on a pre-determined basis and their tenure is for a set time. If you lose one of these men/women for an unexpected reason, the Unit can expect to wait at least six months for a replacement. As the military provides, at no cost, birth control devices/pills there is no excuse for a female to become pregnant. I had several that got pregnant on purpose so that they could get out of the Unit/Service. from Pensacola by Rodric

Comment: No, but it depends on what you mean by 'punishment'. The female has to be transferred to a low-risk or no-risk position. If doing so has impacted a unit negatively, it's a bad thing. I do not know the military structures enough to say how the transfer or reassignment should be done. from Pensacola / FL by Rick

Comment: I don't agree on that commander. He should not be able to punish WOMEN who choose to prenagnate from Milton/Fl by Jonathan
