Unemployment Taxes: Do you support the hike in Florida's unemployment tax on businesses?

33.33% Yes
66.66% No

Comment: If I were a businessman seeking a location for my business, Florida would be the last place I would come. People here must be crazy to think that anyone would come to a state where they tax employers nearly twelve times what they are currently paying. from Pensacola, FL by Mary Ann

Comment: No I do not support the hike because it will be us, the end users who will end up paying for it. I can't understand why the Fl legislature keeps reducing property taxes that are deductable by IRS and replacing them with "Hidden" Taxes like this one \. WHAT WE NEED IS a clean house election and hopefully we'll recover from the situation our reps have put us in. I'll start first by trying to get rid of Dave Murzin who's done nothing for taxpayers except take our money. from pensacola fl by lou

Comment: If you want a true culprit in NW florida's unemployment mess, check out all the call centers. They continuously hiring people and they lead them on with benefits but fire them before they have to pay benefits with some small detail and then send them to unemployment. Every Call center I have been in West and Clearwire now practice dishonest labor practices. And they love the right to work laws that allow them to churn through employees. from Pensacola/Fl by Kenneth

Comment: Its a crazy no win deal right? Ive been unemployed for a year now. The way I see it is employers are going to hire less and possibly lay off current employees so they can afford the tax. There is no good end to this. from milton by greg

Comment: Small buisnesses are already having A tough time. This tax will put some of them out of buisness. Then they will pay no tax. from Cantonment,Fl. by John

Comment: Why don't we just cut our nose off to spite our face! I recently moved to the Pensacola area to be near my family and to start a small business that would possibly provide 20 to 30 jobs. If this tax increase happens, I'll be starting my business in Mobile instead. from Pensacola, Fl by James

Comment: Who should pay for the unemployment payments? the State? Who is that? It's us -- all of us. No one wants to pay more taxes - so I ask again, who should pay? I don't know the answer, but I suspect all those who point in another direction are just trying to pass the cost to someone else. from Milton by Joel

Comment: People need to just get a job. There are plenty of Burger King's and McDonald's that are hiring. Just because you may have been laid off from a high paying job does not mean there is not work elsewhere.

Comment: Tax, tax, tax. Why is that ALWAYS the government's answer to everything? How about we pull JOBS into the area. How about we institute the Fair Tax so that American business who fled overseas to avoid our draconian tax structure come back to the states. How about the states (as well as the Feds) learn to live within their means (like us lowly serfs must do) and learn to put something away for a rainy day. from Cantonment, Fl. by Jeff

Comment: Unemployment has not skyrocketed enough to warrant such an extravagant increase. I'm sure they need to compensate some of their other shortfalls and we all know to well how much our educational funding has been stripped. from pcola,fl by john

Comment: NO!!! The only answer anyone in government ever seems to come up with is to raise taxes. Candidly, I quite surprised that some genuis hasn't yet lobbied for taxing the American that has the audacity to breathe fresh air (or what's left of it). Come on now, "we the people" voted for change, but is this the change we want? from Mary Esther, FL. by Tom

Comment: Its funny that everytime there is a shortfall in the state its either the businesses or just plain residences taking the hit for it. Because of the way things are going in the US where is all the stimulus money for things like this? Given to AIG so they can continue veery big bonus' and parties. from Mary Esther, FL by Alan

Comment: I don't support it but what else are they supposed to do. They are in a catch 22, people are out of jobs and need the help and there are no jobs available for them. It's not the governments technical responsibility to maintain their benefits after the original deadline. However, I think morally it is their reponsibility. Once the taxes jump up that high you will see more job losses because businesses won't be able to afford their workers. Then the cycle will begin again with the need for unemployment claims. from Pensacola by Dorrian

Comment: well, i guess all those folks who wanted a "smaller" government and pay less taxes are "paying" for their short-sightedness now! all these programs are for the benefit of the ALL citizentry..."if pro is the oppose of con...then what is the opposite of progress...conservative?" from p'cola fl by H

Comment: I don't believe businesses should pay ANY unemployment tax. Most of the recipients of these benefits are a bunch of no-load, trash who don't WANT to work. from Pensacola, FL by Britt

Comment: No problem with this UNLESS a disproportionate amount of monies collected keeps another worthless civil servant on the state payroll.Government agencies are where layoffs are needed, they NEVER cut back when times get tough on those in the real world. by warren

Comment: i think that this tax needs to be approved. becaue the state of florida is going to need the money to pay unemployment of those who will be laid off because of this tax. if the gov. thinks that won't happen then they need to take a bite of what they,ve been shoveling from pensacola by michael

Comment: yes i support all taxes, make them pay their way from chicago ill by jessie

Comment: I can accept a reasonable increase, but this is a bit much. Florida seems to be going crazy with increases of late. Car Tags and Driver's Licenses for starters and not to mention Citizens Ins. that is still charging people with their own insurance for Ivan. from Pensacola Florida by Rodric

Comment: NO!! No more taxes and give us some of our taxes back!!! The government wonders why we are in a recession!!! from Milton, FL by Kim

Comment: Most employers will never lay a employee off they just fire them. Most employees here in florida never recieve unemployment. from pace by Robert

Comment: They are killing small business from Olive Heights,FL by W.L.

Comment: this will only increase unemployment. The small business owner cannot survive this. Then what will those new ones now without a job do? from Crestview,Fla by Lewis

Comment: There is little else that can be done. We are borrowing money from the Feds to cover the unemployment bills. I know it comes at a bad time for everyone. Where is the "stimulus" money going? It doesn't appear it is having any effect on employment with an 11% jobless rate in FL. from Niceville by Tom

Comment: I do not support any tax. We are taxed to death now. Just wait until the 2000 page HealthCare Bill is passed and the Climate change bill gets passed. Thats when the people will wake up. Of course, I will be to late. America Home of the Fee. Our Government is corrupt. from Pensacola by Wanda

Comment: I think it would just make it harder for our small business that are already struggling in our current economy. from Crestview, Florida by Lisa
