Postal Service: Do you think it's a good idea for the U.S. Postal Service to cut back mail delivery to five days?
| 57.89% | Yes | |
| 42.1% | No |
Comment: no i don't think they should go to five days delivering the mail. we need all six days to get our mail delivered to us there is people out there that works during the week and can't get to the post office in time before they close. so if they close the post office on saturdays we won't be able to go to the post office to mail out letters and so on. from Gulf Breeze by REGINA
Comment: No,they need to cut down on all the junk mail we get to start. Then you can cut work force down to what it should be.When are people going to figure out that the Gov.can't even deliver the mail without losing money. from pensacola by sam
Comment: no i do not think they should cut mail delivery back to 5 days a week, to many people depend on the delivery of checks that the government diliberately makes sure that they don't get delivered till saturday, so what people who relie on they're checks have to wait till monday??? and what if monday is a holiday then they won't get it till tuesday??????? boy how wrong is that!!!! the postal workers get two days a week off anyhow why should they cut back to 5 day delivery, from pensacola , fl by d.j.
Comment: The Post Office should first STOP spending Millions on sponsorships for sporting events, advertising and selling non postage type stuff... They should be run like a business, not like AMTRAC or al the otehr subsidized quasi governmental programs... If they got rid of all the underworked managers it would help too... delivery is last to be cut and only then if the rest of the postas service is held financially accountable from Milton by Robert
Comment: Certainly mail could be deliverd 5 days a week. Of course the postal department could and should be caring more for the taxpayers money just as those of us need to be more cautios of our spending . they should also and stop selling items in thr maoil rooms that have no need for mailing purposes . in addittion the postal union has an obligation to help contropl costs . thank you for the opportunity to be heard and seen . Bill Stimmell from Pensacola Fl. by William L
Comment: It's about time they cut back on daily mail service.. As far as I'm concerned they could cut service to four days or less.. All I usually get is junks mail or my usually monthly bills..So cutting back will not effect me. from niceville fl by robert
Comment: Less delivery means more unemployment. Like that is just waht America needs right now. Lets pay our bills late and guess which day it will reach the creditors. Which opens more issues. from Pensacola,FL by Flower
Comment: the mail only needs to be delivered 5 days a week. The internet provides us our bills and necessary info. from pensacola by peggy
Comment: Might as well. That will only give them 5 days a week to loose my mail instead of six. from Cantonment, Fl. by Jeff
Comment: Mail volume will pick back up. Cutting delivery to 5 days will only cause Monday delivery (that is already heavy) to be extra heavy. I think people will lose more confidence in the postal service if mail delivery is cut back. from Milton, Fl by Brian
Comment: The USPS whether knowingly or not, has pampered the citizens of this country so much that aside from the jokes about the pay, the citizens wouldn't stand for no mail delivery on the weekend (Sat or urgencies on Sundays). Automation these days has not aided in a five-day work week (in my opinion) because, what a mailperson used to do manually (i.e., sort mail) is now done by machines. If the machines break down, the whole system is put on hold; much the same as newspaper presses, but that's another topic entirely. I say if the USPS pays for a seven-day operation, let the workers work seven days a week. How about suggesting our military forces work five day work-weeks? Or stop war on Saturday and Sunday? It won't work. from Mary Esther, FL. by Tom
Comment: The mail takes too long to get anywhere today. Giving them another day off will make letters longer to get to it's destination. from Navarre, Fl. by C J
Comment: They are open half the time now. All kinds of Holidays off. Every time someone stumps their toes they add another Holiday to their list. by Angie
Comment: I don't think that the cut back would help any. They have loss business because of poor service, long lines, and some supplies are not always available. Internet and recession are just an excuse for bad business practices! from Milton, FL by Rae
Comment: Let our letter carriers have Saturday off, they work very hard and deserve the weekends off from Pensacola/Fl by Kevin
Comment: i say yes due to the fact that most people around that think less government services is a good thing for them. until some of these "socialistic" services are taken away...i don't think they will ever get the point of hypocracy they spew from their mouths... from p'cola fl by h
Comment: If cutting back mail delivery to 5 days a week will help save money and perhaps slow down the rise in postage rates I would support it. from Pensacola/FL by Mike
Comment: give the bussiness to U.P. S AND GET THE SORRY GOVT. OUT OF IT ALL TOGETHER- from beulah, fl by oshau
Comment: Yes, I believe that mail delivery should be reduced to five days, as long as the salaries of our hardworking Mail men and women are not cut. Another reason is, when we receive bad news mail or a wrong bill on a Friday and we need to call or respond to it we can't do it till Monday, but we worry about it all weekend. I think getting bad news on a Monday gives us a better weekend. from Navarre, FL by Bethdori
Comment: Crime would'nt pay if the post office ran it..... from pace by warren
Comment: Yes! ONLY if they are going to reduce postal rates by 30% as well! Perhaps they should be looking at companies who constantly issue (bulk) "junk mail" and charge them a premium for wasting time, money and trees! from gulf breeze by mark
Comment: Before the postal service considers cutting back delivery days, perhaps it should consider cutting back the number of holidays take and use this in their consideration of whether or not cutting back on delivery days will save money. (Maybe you should add a third option to your survey "It Depends?") from pensacola fl by lou
Comment: No i do not feel it would be a good idea to go down to five days, It already takes to long to get mail and it gets backed up. from Milton by Jennifer
Comment: They should go to 3 days if they are losing all the money they claim. Mon-Wed-Fri is plenty of time. from Pensacola by Leonard
Comment: Cutting back to 5 days SHOULD SAVE $$$$. Also, they need to cut down or even cut out all this "CRAP MAIL". I get sick and tired of going to my mail box and it contains nothing but AD's Mail or people wanting donations. I'm over it. There is also a lot of deadbeats working for the P.O. I'm talking about all those people who do nothing but sit and do nothing all day or those mail carriers who "dump" their mail in a dumpster and go home. Also, I'm getting tired of getting my mail after 5 or 6 at night. Where has this mail carrier been all day? from Pensacola, Fl. by Charles
Comment: Yes! With computers, things have changed and it's time the Postmaster General makes changes too. I get most of my important mail, as in bills and statements online and also pay 75% of my bills via the web. For the most part, my daily mail consists of junk mail, which I don't read and just toss in the trash. Cutting back service to five days a week makes perfect sense. If someone really needs something delivered, they can always use one of the private services such as Fed Ex or UPS. Banks, schools, physician offices, they all manage with a 5 day work week, I think the post office can too. from Fort Walton Beach, FL by Denise
Comment: YES: In addition a cut in benefits and/or a 10% pay cut should also be applied for a job that has become way overpaid and so simple "Even a Caveman Can Do It". from Pensacola by John
