| 20.93% | Yes | |
| 79.06% | No |
Comment: it is money wasted, they were done after ivan. from pensacola,fl by glen
Comment: As long as condo owners say "keep off our beach" no public tax monies should be spent to renourish "their" beaches. from Pensacola, FL by Eric
Comment: Restore only the public beachs. The rest is the responsibility of the land owners from Ft. Walton, Florida by Ken
Comment: The beach is one of the biggest attractions here and creates many jobs in the area. People don't come here for anything else but the beaches and the beach atmosphere. The beach creates jobs here and tourism is the only thing in this town. from Pensacola FL by Jordan
Comment: Anyone who buys on a barrier island knows, or should know, that a barrier island by it's nature will move, and erode. It is a total waste of money to "renourish" the beaches, and a horrible waste of taxpayer funds. And dont try the bed tax on me. Much better use for that. from Pensacola Fl by William
Comment: THE BEACHES SHOULD BE ALLOWED TO MIGRATE AS NATURE SEES FIT. THEY(THE BEACHES) WERE HERE LONG BEFORE ANY LIVING HUMAN CAN REMEMBER. THEY WILLBE HERE LONG AFTER WE ARE GONE. THEY MAY NOT LOOK THE WAY SOME WANT BUT SO BE IT. from CANTONMENT FL by WILLIAM
Comment: As a local resident and taxpayer, I would fully support funding to maintain our beaches. I moved here from NC specifically for the sheer beauty of our coast, and would be an active advocate for preserving what every one of us enjoys! from Pensacola, FL by Cynthia
Comment: Let the owners of the condos pay for repair! There is a lot of people who need food, shelterand clothing. The general public gets run off the beach if it is behind any of the condos. from Niceville/ Florida by Ron
Comment: I think it a waste of taxpayers money, when they can use the money to improve schools and give the teachers a raise that they deserve for the time they spend trying to teach kids so they can have a better life and job. from Pensacola, Fl by Robert
Comment: I don't think that we should keeping putting money in the renourshing of the beaches, why don't people get it the beaches are barrier island, and apparently hurricanes or other weather disasters are not going away. Move off the beach. We are spending way to much money on these kind of things from Pensacola, Fl by Ethel
Comment: This was done not long ago. They cannot get the same sand that they are losing by dredging. The island will not disappeared unless it is due to global warming, and if that is the case we cannot stop it anyway.Dredging is a waste of money and damages the white beach very bad,Look at Panama city theirs is not white as it was before dredging.Stop the stupidity from pace by Robert
Comment: We have wasted enough money on the beaches. If they was not ever allowed to build on the beach we would not have this problem. We need to spend our money on getting JOBS here not more taxes. from milton, florida by ron
Comment: Let me see now. They want to spend my tax money on renourishment of the beaches so that I can then be forbidden to walk on the beaches and walk on the areas near the condos and homes. Raise taxes on beach owners and the bed tax. Roads and streets on the mainland need the money, and I am actually allowed to drive on the roads that are built with my tax money. If the buildings fall in the water, then we will have some fishing reefs. Constant need for renourishment is simply nature telling us that people shouldn't be living on the beach. from Pensacola by Lisa
Comment: 20 + years ago in school I learned erosion is something man cant stop. We build on a beach the sand moves. We cant stop it .. Why do we keep rebuilding something that will never stay. Storms and the normal tides will change the coastline. Where the beach is today ..well it wont be there in three to five years... FACT OF LIFE.. Dont build on a beach... Shifting sands from Navarre/Fl by James
Comment: The county blew millions of our tax money to attract low paying waitress and bell boy and valet parking for the butt monkeys up north. Cheaper to get rid of the turds that run this county to attract industry. We dont need another beer joint for the snow birds to run back north and bragg about how our dip commisioners are bankrupting the residents for the visitors. Enough friggen "Wally World" from Pensacola,FL by Flower
Comment: We were warned more than 60 years ago that building on the barrier islands was a mistake due to the movement of the islands. We should annex the islands to the residents before they break the county. from Pensacola Florida by Paul
Comment: it is so outrageous .... condo owners now want us to bail them out ... so F76*$3) funny ... and they drive their Cadillacs to work ... so F6&63(*& funny ... and the board of commissioners are thinking of raising taxes ... lmso from P/F by H
Comment: The beaches represent a third of our economy. They are the front door to Escambia County and our most potent weapon as we compete for new businesses and new jobs. To not repair this asset is shooting ourselves in the foot. from Pensacola / Fl by Rick
Comment: The county (the whole state, for that matter) has no choice but to renourish our beaches. Look up the economic impact studies done by UWF's Haas Center a number of years ago and you'll see that the cost of beach renourishment is a drop in the bucket compared to the tourism dollars that would be lost annually if we lost our hotels, condos, rental houses, restaurants, shops, etc. out on the beach, the big draws of tourist dollars. Also, am not sure where the $35 million dollar local figure comes from since the vast majority of the cost of maintaining previously engineered beach restorations (such as Pensacola Beach's) come from FEMA, with a relatively small percentage split by state and local sources. from Pensacola Beach by Linda
Comment: ok...those folks on the beach can start paying for it! why in the world would i or any "mainlander" whose presence is unwelcomed by beach residents want to pay for, as they always claim "their beach and property" as far as i'm concerned, they should just raze all buildings and return the "barrier" island (remember the small strip of land that protects the main land during a major storm?) to its natural state. build the homes, condos, and hotels in navarre and gulf breeze and let folks "visit" the island with one big parking lot! from p'cola fl by h
Comment: It's the beach, it's the ocean, it's just going to wash away again. The solution is not to build on the beach at all.
Comment: Let nature take its course and quit spending money we don't have by sharon
Comment: It would be cheaper to get rid of the commisioners. next, lets get Citizens insurance to insure the beach mouse. What a load of nonsense and waste. from Pensacola,FL by William
Comment: With or without beach renourishment the beach will be there. What we are trying to do is protect static structures in a dynamic environment. Once we start this beach renourishment we can never stop at ever increasing costs to the taxpayer. They don't do beach renourishment in the National Seashore and they still have beautiful beaches. What we are doing is protecting homeowners and hotel/condo owners who were stupid enough to build on a sandbar in the first place. We need to buy out these leases as homes are destroyed and curtail further development on the beaches. from Pensacola/Florida by Mike
Comment: GOD created the beach, so it is HIS perogative when HE chooses to eliminate them. No matter what we mortal men may want; it is in GOD's hands. So, why WASTE what we don't have trying to replenish what isn't ours to begin with? from Mary Esther, Fl. by Tom
Comment: I think they ought to have a resident beach maintence tax paid by the residence/owners who live on the island. And also business who operate on the island. Also they ought to install parking meters to collect fees from the visitors which would be used also to maintane the beach. This has been successful in other parts of Fl. from Holt fl by Jimmie
Comment: I think the taxpayers should only pay a portion of the renourishment equal to the amount of public access frontage/the total beach frontage. Private property owners should foot the bill for their own renourishment from Pensacola, Fl by David
Comment: If we do not maintain our beach, we will lose jobs and tourists. Think our economy is bad now? It will be far worse if our beaches no longer bring us employment and revenue! from Pensacola, FL by Karen
Comment: Condo owners claim the beaches are private property and restrict public access to much of the beach. Since it is private, let the condo/property owners pay the bill. If public funds are used, then the beaches are public area and cannot be restricted by property owners. from Pensacola, FL by Cindy
Comment: No, I don't think the county or state should spend millions to restore it's beaches. Let Mother Nature control it. If you build on the beaches, you should be responsible for your own repairs. Taxpayers should not have to pay for this. from Navarre, Florida by Elton
Comment: let the condo owners do it or let them fall. by tp
Comment: Renourshing the beaches is a no-win effort. Stop now, and use the money for more productive things. from Pensacola/FL by John
Comment: in no way should we. the area was created by a hurricane and one will take it away. from FL by paul
Comment: Also might add 0.25% sales tax from PENSACOLA,FLORIDA by D
Comment: Let the people who use the beach and live at the beach pay for the restoration. from Walnut Hill, Fl by Jeffrey
Comment: We raise millions of dollars from our out of state guest that visit our beautiful beaches each year so It is very important that we keep them beautiful. As far as letting the houses and building fall in the gulf, that is not even a option. from Pensacola Florida by Jimmy
