Pledge of Allegiance: Do you think students should be required to recite the pledge every day?

85.54% Yes
14.45% No

Comment: " a law that requires public school students to recite the POL each day" What amazes me as this issue is already decided by the Supreme Court--you have the freedom of it and from it. I guess some people cant understand no one is preventing one from doing so. Part of education is being taught to respect court rulings on the matter. Why would any person want to FORCE (communist) a person against thier will.Stupidity abounds in America where one cant understand anything concerning law from the highest court in the land. from Pensacola,Fl by Flower

Comment: No, not required, but given the choice or option whether they want to or not, because of certain religious beliefs or other personal reason, but yes the school would need a parents written permission if they don't want their child saying the pledge. from Pace, FL by Pam

Comment: We are all supposed to be Americans in this country so what is wrong with the pledge. I feel that we should encourage our chilfren to develop respect in this country. from Milton, FL by Thomas

Comment: Whether you were born here or moved here, you're here because it's a better place, so respect & love it. from Pensacola, Fl. by Mick

Comment: YES They are in America aren't they? The ACLU needs to be done away with. They trust their kids to the teachers to teach them and that is what they are doing. from Pensacola by FMR

Comment: Students should be required to at least stand out of respect for our flag and our country. If they choose not to say it, fine, but at least show respect for those who have died for our freedom and the country that we live in. It's not about politics, it's not about liberal or conservatives, it's about living in America and being respectful of everything the flag stands for...freedom, liberty, and justice for all. from Pensacola, FL by Brittany

Comment: The students in Pace should have to say "one nation NOT under God." from milton by jerry

Comment: We need more patriotism and God in our lives and we need to get rid of the ACLU, KKK, Skin Heads, Neo Nazis', all of the radical groups that are undermining our country. Oh yea, let's include Pelosi, Clinton and Obama or what ever his real name is. from Crestview / Fla by James

Comment: For one thing, we need to see the Supreme Court's 1943 ruling. I, for one, really do not know how to look that up. If that, in fact, is true then let the parents sent a note to the school excusing their child from the pledge of allegiance to the country they have choosen to live in. from Milton, Fl by Gloria

Comment: If they live in this country they should recite the pledge as it is now written. We are letting the Communistic ACLU controll our Country's traditions which do not violate the Constitution. from Pensacol;a,FL by Pat

Comment: Absolutely NOT. I refuse to pledge my allegiance to a corrupt government. We aren't even a Republic anymore. Citizens will pledge allegiance to the country when the country pledges allegiance to the citizens instead of trampling all over and removing/limiting their rights. I pledge MY allegiance to seeing this country return to a Constitutional Republic run by a rule of LAW. What's next, being required to sing a praise Obama song every morning? from Cantonment, Fl. by Jeff

Comment: I think that if a student doesn't want to state the Pledge of Allegiance, then they should stand there in silence. This was something that was done when I was in school years ago and it worked fine. Plus that way no one can say we are forcing something on the Students. from Mary Esther by Alan

Comment: I think our youth would want to Pledge Allegiance to the flag and country. If dont they shouldnt be force to that goes against everything we stand for I am just sorry they would fell that way.I never thought I would live to see the day we didn't want to pledge and say the Lords prayer I turn out alright...Paul from Pensacola Fla by Paul

Comment: Yes. Persons who don't wish to do this can choose other countries (and take the ACLU with them). from Pensacola, Fl by D

Comment: Pledging allegiance to this country is an obligaton of each and every legal citizen of these United States. God is important in every religion and it is time for this country to quit going along with ACLU on everything that they do not like. The student should not have been removed from class, that is the teacher expanding their rights to make students do their bidding. from Pensacola, FL by June

Comment: we need to teach our kids to honor our country, our colleges have torn down patiroitism, lets stand up for america from pensacola,fl by odis

Comment: YES I do. My brother is in the Army and has been Iraq for a total of 3 years, not counting all the other men and weman that made this country free just so you can ask this crazy question. Just think about what you have because of the meaning of this great flag. from Pensacola, Fl by Angie

Comment: ACLU are an anti American organization who deprive the rights of certain Americans to protect their own interests. If you can't say The Pledge of Allegiance you should not be allowed to receive any government funds, attend government funded schools or receive any benefit funded by the government. from Pensacola FL by Mike

Comment: It is what keeps the kids to grow up and be an American, instead of turning back on the country or possibly leave the country. by Connor

Comment: The pledge should also be explained to the students so that when they recite it they understand what they're saying. from Pensacola by Timothy

Comment: Bad enough they don't put their hands over their hearts when saying the pledge at sports events, or even being quiet sometimes. They need to show respect for the flag, for our country, and get in the 'habit' of doing so. It sure didn't hurt any of us 'old fogeys'!! from Pensacola, FL by JRoAnne

Comment: YES, of course they should, just like they need prayer back in school every day too! from Crestview, FL by Darlene

Comment: Well at least there is some part of the constitutation that has not been stepped on. You damn right we should teach our kids ro pledge allegiance to the greatest country on Gods green earth. Brian P. Sandoval from Pensacola, Florida by Brian

Comment: ABSOLUTELY!! As a nation, we seem to be drifting away from respect for our flag, for authority and pride in ourselves. It seems that we had a greater degree of these things in the past. from Gulf Breeze, FL by Don

Comment: Kids should get patriotism at home and let it be reinforced at school. But, then, kids should get a lot of stuff at home that they don't. from Pensacola, FL by Dan

Comment: If their allegiance is not to the USA, where is it? from pensacola, florida by Jane

Comment: It's part of being an american. It shows respect to our founding fathers. If you don't want to recite it then the least you can do is stand there with you mouth shut.

Comment: Yes, the kids should say the pledge and they should also understand what it means. If the kids parents don't want them to say the pledge and actually pledge thier allegiance to the United States in which they live, then they need to leave the country. from Navarre, Fl by Bill

Comment: The pledge of allegiance is a the most basic form of patriotic indoctrination we can instill in our citizen children. We might not be able to pray but we can certainly teach these kids respect for our flag and country. And if they refuse let them try and find a school in a country they do have loyalty and respect for. from Pensacola by Johnnymac

Comment: YES from pensacola by cyn

Comment: We held the flag in front of the room each morning and recited the pledge. It was an honor to do it for that wk from Pensacola, Fl by Sharon

Comment: OF COURSE, THIS IS AMERICA! WE SHOULD BE PROUD. ONE NATION UNDER GOD!! from PENSACOLA by JAMIE

Comment: What is wrong with showing respect to the nations flag. I did it for years when I when to school along with the Lords prayer. It is a shame that a minority can dictate to the majority what it can and can not do. GET RID OF THE ACLU!!!!! from pensacola/fl by walter

Comment: Encouraged? Sure. Required? No. We do not live under a totalitarian regime that requires an oath of loyalty to the state. A child in a classroom should be free to not recite the pledge, for whatever personal reason they may have, without fear of recrimination from school officials. from Pensacola, FL by Tina

Comment: I feel like it teaches our children to respect their country and what has been given by soldiers to keep them safe. If you are a citizen of this country you should be proud to stand up and say "The Pledge Of Allegiance" from Pensacola, FL by Julie

Comment: in the modern present day form...no! but yes under the original form before the cold war... from p'cola fl by h

Comment: I think that if the student is enrolled in our school system they should have to honor the country that pays for thier education . from cantonment fl by margaret

Comment: Of course. And including "under God, with liberty and justice for all". from Pensacola, FL by Gerry

Comment: this is still america, and out of respect for our current and former military men and women,it should not even be in question. They have allowances in place if the parents wish for their children to not participate. If you don't like it here, you can leave...there is no wall from milton,fl by marlena

Comment: i think they should because it the right thing to do and mybe it what be so min children get hurt in school a like pray is good for everybody from pensacola fla by hellen

Comment: I do not believe they should be required to recite the pledge but do believe they should pay respect by standing with the others. Some younger children do not fully understand why the pledge is recited daily. They are only doing as they are told by their parents. I also think any parent who excuses their child from standing out of respect for the country they reside in and enjoy the freedoms the pledge represents should be deported with their entire family. from Pensacola by Michael

Comment: IF YOU ARE A CITIZEN OF THIS COUNTRY AND ENJOY THE FREEDOMS THAT COME WITH THAT PRIVILEDGE THEN YOU SHOULD SWEAR YOUR ALLEGIANCE TO THIS COUNTRY. YOUR HONORING OF THE FLAG AND ALL IT REPRESENTS IS A SMALL SACRIFICE TO PAY FOR THE RIGHT TO CALL YOURSELF AN AMERICAN. from PENSACOLA FLORIDA by MIKE

We need to wake up and realize that the ACLU and those whom they represent, don't care in truth for our freedoms. All they want is to whine and cry about how awful these freedoms make them feel.
