Mileage Tax: Do you support the idea of being taxed for every mile you drive?

2.66% Yes
97.33% No

Comment: NO! lets have a poitician idiot tax...taht way we could drop the deficet to $0.00. from Pensacola,FL by Flower

Comment: I do not like the idea. People driveless because they are hurting for money. Increasint the tax, however it is done simply hurts the lower/middle class further. from Gulf Breeze, FL by Don

Comment: We are being taxed to the limit of our ability to pay. Maybe this is just another Pres. BO trick to take everything we have. All they do with our money is send it to another country so we still would not get our road fixed. from Pensacola, FL by AJ

Comment: Are you kidding. Next thing you know they will be wanting to tax us for every breath we take. Why punish those that have to drive just to make a living. from Milton, FL by Thomas

Comment: Sounds like someone is trying to be rip-artists and bilk us out of even more money. Not everyone is satisfied. be gas conservative..tax-em, be gas fuelish..tax-em. from pensacola by georgia

Comment: No! Tax out of state visitors! from Pace by Sandra

Comment: INSANITY!! Is the 54% we already pay in taxes not enough? This is yet another attempt at Marxist anti-Constitutional total government domination. When do we get to vote on this? See the point? The market will regulate fuel consumption, meanwhile get these parasites out of our pockets! Semper Fi, Bill from Pensacola, Fl by Bill

Comment: When is the government going to understand that "WE THE PEOPLE" are tired of of them spending all of their time trying to find new ways into our wallet's. They need to be more careful with the taxpayer's money. NO,I FOR ONE DO NOT SUPPORT PAY BY MILE!!! from pensacola/fl by james

Comment: The public is already paying a huge tax on fuel. The tracking equipement would be an extra expence to the public and the merchant. Additional it would be invasive by the government. from cantonment by Donald

Comment: Not NO but, HELL NO! What businness does gov. have knowing how many miles we drive? from Ft. Walton Beach, Fl. by Bob

Comment: First, it's none of their business how much I drive. FL should save the money they'd have to add to the budget to build the needed devices to track it, then the manpower to tax it and send a bill to pay off some of their debts. The legislature should find a way to reduce its spending just like the rest of us have had to do. from Pace, FL by Lynn

Comment: This is a terrible idea that would be nearly impossible to track and also to determine how the money is divided after collection. Besides being very invasive and "Big Brother-ish" my bet is that another department would have to be created to monitor this and would absorb most of the monies collected. It is just an all-around bad idea. from Navarre/Florida by Fred

Comment: If people are buying less gas that should be proof enough they can't afford it as prices stand now. Also, adding a tax like this does sound a bit too much like "Big Brother is watching." from Milton by Penny

Comment: Emphatically no! What's next? I know, an oxygen measurement on our back and pay by the liter....... The State of Florida , can CUT wasteful pork and useless spending. I have to live by a tight budget and so can the State of Florida...LGB from Crestview by Lewis

Comment: I love Florida I have never thought of living anywhere else but with all the taxes fees insurance etc... we are having to pay. Other states are looking very appealing! from Pensacola by C

Comment: No Way! from Pensacoola, Fl. by Joyce

Comment: We are taxed enough buying gas for our vehicles. We don't need to pay for every mile we drive. People on limited retirement can't afford any more taxes. We are taxed too much already. from Pensacola, Fl by Martha

Comment: NO on more taxes this will put a lot of people in a finicial bind, alot of people make their money by driving, that will in turn will raise prices on everything, from clothes to grocery to postal stamps. This is not good for Florida. alot of people are thinking that florida is wanting everybody to move out of florida. from navarre fl by sherri

Comment: I drive 70+ miles each day going to work. My wife drives about 200 miles each week going to teach classes part time. The milage tax would speed up our decision to move from Florida. from milton/fl by Jim

Comment: Next they will be asking to put a tracking device on my lawn mower weed eater emg. gen. boat. come on transportation officials stop digging into my pocket from Pensa. by Al

Comment: I don't think it is very fair some people have to pay enough for gas... but tax for every MILE! that is a lot to pay for In every day life and lots of people drive thousands of miles a day it's just not fair! from milton florida by merna

Comment: This is just another way for the government to spy on the population. I rather pay higher tax on gasoline than be taxed on mileage. from Pensacola, FL by Wanda

Comment: NO;;;Our representives should stop wasting our tax dollars and stop raising our taxes. from MILTON,FL by L

Comment: Whats the use of buying a fuel efficient car, if you are going to be punished by your state for doing so? Our state officials should be trying to help its reidents of Fl. not punish them. from Milton FL. by Angela

Comment: The "Big Brother" aspect aside the obvious flaw to me is that only cars registered in Florida would pay this tax. With Florida being a huge tourist destination, we would be missing out on a large revenue source which could be more easily be tapped by a gas tax increase. from Ft Walton Bch,Fl by Jim

Comment: this is ridiculous from pensacola fl by wallis

Comment: We already pay a gas tax that is to high..Now they want to ad more tax for driving??? We all should be outraged at a double tax for the same item..License and tag fees are way up and it already is creating a hardship for middle to low income families..People won't be able to afford going to work any more. from Milton by Betty

Comment: What's next, asking us if we want to pay taxes on the air we breathe? I sometimes wonder where the brains are of some of the folks that are in positions of authority. What we need to do is simply learn how to stop spending money like it was water flowing over Niagra Falls. from Mary Esther, FL. by Tom

Comment: Garbage!!! No more Taxes!!

Comment: Installing a GPS in each Florida resident's vechicle shows a lack of planning/concern that our politicians have for the residents of the state. This idea has three areas that will impact each of us: 1) it will allow the state to track e4ach vehicle/driver 2)people that live out of state but work in Florida will contribute nothing. Tourist and delivery truck also fall in this category 3)Business will just pass the increase on to the consumer. The cost of food, clothing, building material, electirct will just go up. Business are there to make a profit In these uncertain times the tax increase is just a poor decision. from Milton/Florida by Ed

Comment: This stinks of more government invading an individual's life. We pay enough taxes already! I believe the cost to keep track of everyones mileage will cost more than the amount collected in taxes. This would put small businesses out of business!!! from pensacola/fl by dottie

Comment: This is old news. Obama has already come out against this idea back in February. Here is a link to the Associated Press report on the idea and Obama's response: http://www3.signonsandiego.com/stories/2009/feb/20/lahood-vehicle-mileage-tax-022009/ from Navarre, FL by Steve

Comment: I have a large family. I also have many medical issues. I have to go to the doctor on a regular basis, as does each of my kids and my husband. Then there are trips to the dentist, paying bills, going to the bank, back and forth to work, etc. I can barely make ends meet as it is and now you want to make me pay MORE money just because I actually take care of my kids? I don't think so! from Cantonment, FL by Gina

Comment: This is rediculous and sad to have the gov't monitor where we drive. Where in the incentive for taxpayers to save $$ on fuel efficient vehicles? Cash for Clunkers, for example was an incentive to save $$ purchasing a fuel efficient car and now the gov't would like us to pass that savings back to them?

Comment: What's the point of having fuel efficient vehicles? Florida has gone crazy. from Crestview

Comment: I'm not paranoid, but I still don't think the government has any bussiness tracking my milage other than if I supply it on my taxes. What, I go to Colorado on vacation and pay 3,000 miles of taxes to Florida??? that's BS!!! from Pensacola, FL by David

Comment: maybe for those who still have vehicles that do not get at least 30 mpg...not for those who are trying to make a difference... from p'cola fl by h

Comment: Not no, but hell no from Pensacola/FL by Leonard

Comment: Heck no, remeber about conserving gas and buying less? We did that and now our POS political boys from the top down got what they wanted. Lower gas usage and conservation...now we are perhaps going to be taxed for conservation? And using less? Our inbred politicians are brain dead. from Pensacola,Florida by Mattie

Comment: it is none of their business! we pay enough taxes already!!i would like to see them try to put that in my car, they would have a fight on their hands. from Pensacola, FL by Angelique

Comment: No, It will be a punishment for those who live in Florida. Even the individuals who are driving around looking for jobs. The Government must want the population to drop even more. from Mary Esther, FL by Alan

Comment: This has got to be the stupided hair brain idea I've ever heard of. What kind of idiot whould come up with something like that? from pensacola fl by jim

Comment: What will they think of next, taxing every breath you take? We already have too many taxes. It seems we are taxed for everthing possible now. from Navarre, Fl by S

Comment: No, We are in hard times and some of us have to travel 30 miles or more just to get to work or to town for grocery shopping and the same on to get home. In addition to mileage to get children to and from school or school activities. This would really add up and would be more of a burden in the fight to make sure the house is not foreclosed on. Definitely NO. from Crestview, FL by Cathy

Comment: The question should be "Do we want to be taxed even more for every mile that we drive?" We are already taxed on the car, the gas, the oil, the tires, etc. Florida needs to find another way without raising even more taxes.

Comment: No, this is redundancy... I'm already paying taxes on every gallon of gas I purchase. Those who provide us products and merchandise we depend on would have no choice but to pass the cost increase, yet again, to the consumer. from Century, FL by Dan

Comment: I think is redicalus and it is just another way for the goverment to be in charge all fadets of our lives. from Milton/Fl by Edmon

Comment: That does it! We taxpayers are already paying a very large chunk out of our paychecks as it is. Sounds like it may be a good time to move out of the state and leave all of this to the tax mongers. We taxpayers live like paupers, pay our taxes so that our elected officals may like like kings. from Valparaiso, FL by Donna

Comment: FIDEL CASTRO CHARGES TO USE HIS AIR SPACE IF YOU HAVE SAT.TV..SUPPOSE WE'RE NEXT ! from MILTON, FL. by JAMES

Comment: Outrageous. We already pay too much gas taxes for County, State, & federal. Someone needs to learn how to manage tax funds. How about more help for Seniors. i'm 72 & can't afford more taxes for anything. from Pensacola, FL by Tom

Comment: When is all going to stop we cant win for losing we are ask to cut back on gas and we do then we are penalize for saving .Is the land of the free or socialist govt.Come on give a break. What they going tax next how many times I have sex. from pensacol fla by paul

Comment: This is an AWFULLY intrusive idea !!!! from Milton, FL by Suzanne

Comment: We will move back to TN if this law passes. from Gulf Breeze, FL by Billy

Comment: While I think that it would be fair to charge for auto insurance based on how many miles a person drives and would support that as a rating factor, I do not believe it is any business of the government's. The license and registration fees and fuel taxes are sufficient. Those who drive higher mileage already pay higher taxes through the gas tax. from Pensacola / FL by Rick

Comment: NO Tax for milage from Milton, FL by Carol

Comment: We are taxed enough and this is juat another way for government intervention in our lives. from Pensacola,Fl. by P

Comment: Hell no. This is going too far !! They might as well put tracking devices on our ankles and listening devices on our telephones. This will kill any delivery services or outside sales. People cannot drive to work ! from Pensacola, FL by D

Comment: what kind of drugs are these people using?? from Milton, FL by Joan
