Billings Murder Evidence: Do you believe the public has a right to see all the evidence in the Billings murder case?

32.3% Yes
67.69% No

Comment: The Judge needs to abide by the law passed by the legislators; not decide on his own thoughts. from Pensacola, Fl by Jerry

Comment: Absolutely not! For a story or to be certain that everything is revealed in court as so many trial seem to be able to shield so many guilty people and convict innocents for the sake of a conviction. Know this not the case currently, though. from pensacola,fl by k

Comment: The jury needs to see all of it but the average person does not need to see it nor should really want to see it. from FL by Amy

Comment: Absolutely, the public has the right to see ALL the evidence relating to this case.I however, understand the family not wanting it displayed, as it would be displayed over and over and that could prolong the family's healing. from Pensacola, FL by Erin

Comment: With all the pre-trial publicity being a problem now, showing these would further prejudice the pool of prospective jurors. All are entitled to a fair trial. from Cantonment/Fl by Robert

Comment: no, we have been shown quite enough. let the Billings begin the healing process. They have been through enough. from pensacola by georgia

Comment: I think they should be released on a need to know basis. The members of the public that will have a need to know will be sitting on the jury. I think the families right to privacy is more important than th public's right to know. The public doesn't have a need or a right to know. from Milton by Lisa

Comment: The video's and photo's from that night should remain sealed. I would not want to see the family hurt any more by the images being on every news station in America and I do not need to see them either. My aunt was murdered in 2001 and would not want her autopsy photo's released to the media. Somethings should just remain private and this time of evidence is one of those things. This could be very harmful for the furture of the Billings children to relive that night. from Crestview, Florida

Comment: There is not good reason for people to be viewing graphic crime scene photos, and definintely not before the case has been completely resolved in the courts. from Pensacola, Fl by Victor

Comment: No but a moron or less would want their mother and fathers death (execution) publisized. But we have a ton of these inbreds who cant respect anyones feelings or privacy. from Pensacola,FL by Flower

Comment: No, when a trial takes place, the evidence will be presented. Other than media freaks, the public has no need to know. Other things in the world and Pensacola are much more important. from Pensacola / FL by Rick

Comment: I don't think the public needs to see every graphic detail. The only ones who need to see every thing taped and all the other evidence are the members of the court and a jury. If people want to look at gory, shocking pictures, I'm sure there are plenty of movies available for them to watch. Give the family some privacy. from G.B., FL by L.

Comment: Release documents, OK. Release video of the actual murders? What a bunch of ghouls . . . maybe we should bring back public beheading to satisfy the blood lust. from Pensacola, Florida by David

Comment: That is the kind of things that need to stay in the court room and seen only by the jury and judge. by Lynn

Comment: No, that is what you have the jury for, see the evidence. from Pensacola, Fl by Virginia

Comment: The public does not need to see the graphic video. I would certainly want my right to privacy respected. from Milton / FL by Jerri

Comment: It is a local story, involving people we either knew, were involved with in some way, and I believe having details helps us, the public, to learn more of what to look for to be proactive to alect, prevent and report situations like this, whenever possible. from pensacola, Fl by Dee

Comment: I feel that the family is still grieving so the public should respect their privacy!!! from Pensacola, Fl by Terri

Comment: i don't believe the public has the right. the video surveillence is the property of the owner which is now ashley markham. i believe it should be her decision. not a courts or the media. what is the fascination with seeing a murder anyway? if you want to see that just watch any of todays movies and get your kicks that way, not off of the death of these good people. from pensacola by clint

Comment: The evidence will be made public at time of trial. There is no reason that all the evidence should be broadcast to the general public. If people want to know they can find out at time of trial. from CRESTVIEW FL by DENNIS

Comment: Not only should it not be made public for the family's sake, but there will be a trial coming up and the only ones who should see that evidence is the jury. The public does not have right to know or see that kind of information, this soceity is getting way too used to seeing graphic, terrible, personal footage. from Shalimar, Fl by Judi

Comment: I think it's horrific to even consider releasing photos of bullet-ridden bodies. The family deserves their privacy. They have suffered enough! from Pace, FL by Marsha

Comment: The kids have already been in the public eye both on TV & in the News Journal. The family name cannot be defamed as Ashley claims if the videos show the Billings as victims. The special needs children are not likely to read the newspaper. There is no legitimate argument for keeping the evidence hidden, especially not from the defense as Ashley first requested. Law enforcement is bending over backwards to let these people appear to be good people. Are they really so innocent? I think not. from Pensacola FL by Sue

Comment: I personally do not feel the public at large has the right to "see" all the evidence, in this or any other case---THAT IS WHY WE HAVE JURIES. We (as a society) do not need to know all of the details of each and every crime; again, that is what jury selection is all about. from Mary Esther, Fl. by Tom

Comment: I would not want any one to see my family in this manner if it had happened to me. The public does not need to know nor see everything that went own that night. I feel that it is nobody else's business. from Milton, FL by Wanda

Comment: The trail is more than likely, going to be move to a different local. Due to the media coverage anyway. Why jeporize a fair trail?

Comment: I don't see how this would serve the community. The only people that need to see this video is the jury when this goes to trial. from pensacola by shari

Comment: The effect from a public display of the actual murder photos upon the children must be the primary concern here. No sane person would want them exposed to all that. from Pensacola by John

Comment: I believe that the evidence should be kept confidential. This is a tragedy and the children should not be exposed to this kind of violence. It's bad enough that both parents were taken from them. People who want to see this are just the ones who are interested in the violence of it. It does not do anyone any good to show these videos to the public. For the families sake, please keep it private. from Pensacola, FL by Stephanie

Comment: I think all evidence from Billings should be availabe to anyone to see from Pensacola Fl by Bernice

Comment: let the family get over their loss! from Gulf Breeze, Fl. by Jon

Comment: Yes the evidence, but no graphic photos of the murders out of respect for the family from pensacola, fl by marilyn

Comment: i think the public has the right to see the evidience so they know what we are dealing with here and to make sure these people are treated fairly. because the sheriff has a vendette to say these people are guilty before they have a chance to prove there innocence and i think the tapes should be made ready for the public so they can see for themselves what happened from huntsville, texas by joann

Comment: yes it is a public document, but, i think only after trial should it be releasedso that jury pool isnt tainted.. from Pensacola,FL by Renee

Comment: Everything concerning the case should be contained until the trial(s) are over. from Cantonment/FL by Ron

Comment: Have respect for the family. They have been through enough and will have to endure even more in the months to come. from Milton, FL by Shelby

Comment: No, this was a family who led a loveing life & cared for needy children. To much has been said about it all, all ready. They just said on GMA how & where the Billings where shot. It's done & over, let them rest in peace & let the rest of the family move on. I wouldn't want my familys death all over the news. from Pensacola by Amy

Comment: The answer is a resounding YES, for true justice to prevail, all interested person have a right to view and examine evidence or material that an investigation has uncovered. The lack of honesty and truth is the primary cause for the American public NOT to trust or believe in our law enforcement and legal system. from Bay Minette, AL. by Harold

Comment: no,no,no. For pete's sake. Give the surviving family the respect they deserve. Let melanie and bud RIP. This family has been through enough and WEARTV needs to stop airing this story every single day. I am so tired of hearing about it. How can you expect the family to try and move on when all you do is hear about this story on channel three news????? Stop with the media ratings now. from pensacola florida by donna

Comment: Spceific evidence should not be made public until the trial is over. This would assure a fair trial from Mary Esther by Lynn

Comment: It is hard to think that anyone could be so cruel. I feel we should know life's reality. from pensacola by sharon

Comment: I would like to be able to go and see it on the internet or somewhere beside the public venue as to protect the children. from fort walton beach, fl by cheryl

Comment: It is the right of the citizens to see all of the evidence. If the citizens to do not get to see the evidence there becomes much speculation. from Pensacola by J.

Comment: No! whats really sad as a human being is another human being asking about a persons right to gander at this sad topic of documents and video. The PUBLIC was not murdered , but there are the blood suckers out there who live for gossip , causing pain to the remaining family. You could actually make a movie out of this media frenzy and Stephan Speilburg would make millions off the sickness of other human beings wanting to rubber neck and sit around a table and gossip about thier sickness for wanting to know everything. If it were your mother and father....come on sick people...get a thrill on this further. Pathetic self absorbed loosers with no life love causing the family pain. And use every reason why they should not be denied the " front row seat! from Pensacola,Fl by DD
