| 16.27% | About right | |
| 9.3% | Too much | |
| 74.41% | Not enough |
Comment: You have to respect the Judges decision and leagl process.\others who were impacted may feel it would be never enough of a sentence. You do not have to like the decision but respect it. from Pensacola,FL by Flower
Comment: As I former Florida Law Enforcement Officer I can say the sentence was NOT long enough. The term should have been much longer to send a message that this will not be accepted. I personally know Charlie too. from Fort Walton Beach,FL by Gary
Comment: I believe he has cost us too much money while in office, now we will be supporting him in prison. He will never be able to hold his head up high in this county and has lost all respect. He now needs God's Blessings and hope he doesn't have a room mate that he put in prison. from Crestview by Shirley
Comment: It sure isn't enough. He should spend at least 25 years for each count and no plea bargining. He of all people knew better. from Baker/Fl. by William
Comment: A person elected to a position of authority such as the Sheriff should be held to a much higher standard when they break laws they have sworn to uphold. from Loxley by Tony
Comment: I feel this isn't enough for our Former Sheriff! He should have to spend his days doing hard labor, with a sign on him with his crime on the sign! from fwb by Terri
Comment: Sorry seems kind of light to me. Almost like a double standard of what to sentence. Intresting to see how the monies will be repayed and at what rate. ( They should liquidate his holdings with intrest to settle it ). Will be intresting to see if the other get more time or he is the bell mark. from Fort Walton Beach by M.
Comment: He betrayed the the trust of the people of Okaloosa county. maybe one day for each person in OK county would be more apporiate. from Pensacola by Hugh
Comment: The judge that gave the sentance should be investigated. He has to be a good old boy!!!! from Niceville by Wm.
Comment: When Mr. Morris pled guilty, the years were quoted as up to a possible 115 years. Then the state charge was a possible 30 additional years. Most people with this type of time involved would certainly not received a "slap on the hand" for the small amount of time in prison and also choice of prison. Shows the good old boy system is still in place after all these years of people saying it no longer exists. from Ft. Walton Beach, FL by Mildred
Comment: 71 months for the average citizen maybe....but did the judge forget...he is charged with upholding the law and showing our children how you should carry that through. No wonder he smiled when he walked out of the courthouse! from Pensacola, FL by Sharon
Comment: He should have gotten a lot longer sentence. Something like 20-30 years. He disgraced to all the brave men and women that inforce the laws of our county. He restitution is far to lettle also. from crestview by Margaret
Comment: I had a discussion about this @ work today. One of my co-workers put it best; If he is sent to Saufley Field Federal Prison Camp, he will basically be in his own backyard. He is most likely well known in this area as well as his area. His family & friends will have no trouble coming to Escambia County from Okaloosa County to visit him. It is just another example of the "good ole boys" system. If it were anyone of us regular folks, we would have served the maximum prison time and sent far away. Shame on the Judge who sentenced him. from Cantonment, FL by Lisa
Comment: Those who hold govt. positions should be held to a higher std than the rest of society as they are the examples from pensacola fl by kim
Comment: Any law officer that commits a crime should be given the maximum sentence and fine. We rely on those people to uphold the law NOT break it. from Pensacola by Steve
Comment: It was a mistake for Morris to think the law did not extend to him. He was in office too long. I hope all public officals can learn from this tragic waste of professional judgment. from Shalimar, FL by Joy
Comment: i think this sentencing was pretty appropriate...along with the public humiliation...voters best start filtering out who would be the best candidate for a public job instead of voting alongs the party lines... from p'cola fl by h
Comment: His job was to restore and keep order, not destroy the faith put in him. He is a criminal like any other, and needs to do hard time and not at Saufley Field. from Pensacola, Fl by Dolores
Comment: Due to the length of time that his crimes had been carried out, I feel he is certainly fortunate that he didn't get the 85 years. I was kind of thinking at least along the lines of 30 years. In my opinion the judge just lost his rep for being "hard" on public service employees who run amuk of the law. from Mary Esther, FL. by Tom
Comment: What a life. Money was no problem while Sheriff, he made sure he had plenty. Now, he'll be taken care of by the taxpayers and in six years when it's time for him to get out of jail, he'll be at the right age to get Medicare. Is he getting punished enough for his kickback scheme, I say no!! from Niceville, FL. by Janice
Comment: He didn't murder anyone, but he is a crook. His career is over, he is disgraced, and he has to repay what he stole. He is pretty much a ruined man. And when you consider our crooked Secretary of the Treasury, and Tom Daschle, Morris is small potatoes. I would love to see those two down there at Saufley with Morris. Hey, Maybe Morris can apply for a job with the Obama administration . . . from Pensacola, Florida by David
Comment: This sentence was less than half of what a regular citizen would have received. I am completely disappointed at how judges have turned our judicial system into their own private back yard with them being the God over All. from Pensacola, FL by Jim
Comment: I can only hope that the state will also bring the former sheriff to justice. 71 months is not long enough for his betrayal from Shalimar, Fl by Karen
Comment: The people of Okaloosa County are expected not to break the laws. It is a shame that the head man was taking advantage of his power. Out of a possible 150 or more years, 6 doesn't seem like enough to me. from CRESTVIEW by DK
Comment: We both don't condone this sentence, minimum should have been 10 years, and NOT at a softy prison like Saufley Field. Why wasn't he sent to a prison like Rayford...a real prison? Something stinks worse than a skunk in this sentence. from pensacola by georgia and shannon
Comment: As a tax payer for 18 years, to know that my Police Cheif Stole, gambled, bought cars and house and launderd money, and corest others to follow his lead and GOT AWAY WITH IT with such a dispicable sentence of 6 years, one might think the Judge is on the take as well. If I had done something so terrible, FOR THE FIRST TIME I know I wouldn't see day light for at least 35 year, But I guess we here in the panhadle are just stupid enough to let this happen. I am disgusted with the judicial system with its preferable sentensing. If he was burned out as he said why did he run a 2nd term, was it to cover up his mistakes or loose ends? This such a mockery to us on the panhandle, because it was his first time, as we know it. Shame on us and our justice system. from Mary Esther Florida by Joseph
Comment: I probably would have got about twenty (20) years if I had done that crime. I don't believe he got enough time. from Pensacola, Fl by Ronald
Comment: I think that a public official that commits any crime should serve at least double the fine of sentence. He is entrusted with the public's confidence as an elected official. To diminish that trust by criminal activity perpetrated through the power of his office is past criminal. The criminal act diminishes the purpose and quality of his/her/it's elected office for those that follow. In this case Morris can be considered an IT! from Pensacola by James
Comment: Someone should send the Judge along to jail with Morris.. It will be interesting to hear what happens to the people that were involved in the Morris dealings... Will they get two months before reporting to prison???? from Niceville/Fl by Robert
Comment: Can't other charges be brought;he strong armed people who worked under him. He should have gone straight to jail; he knew he was going, so why the delay-would I have gotten extra time off? from fairhope, al by linda
Comment: he should have got the max for the crime from pensacola fl by ke
Comment: an average citizen would get that kind of a sentence for a lot less. shame on you, mr morris from crestview, fl by sunny
