Cash for Clunkers: Do you believe the 'Cash for Clunkers' program should be expanded?

34.09% Yes
65.9% No

Comment: Just another welfare program and the government doesn't have the money. A Big waste from Pensacola by Lela

Comment: This program is just another example of a well intended but half baked idea by the hard left. We can not afford any more bail outs. The benefit from the cash for clunkers doesn't even come close to the cost. What happened to the sound, economic application of the cost benefit analysis??? from Milton, Fl by Jim

Comment: We think the cars should not be distroyed. They could be donated to charities that fix up and provide vehicles to people who can not afford to buy in order to get to work. from Cantonment by Linda

Comment: The auto industry does not need any more bailouts. This is using tax payers monies that should be retained by the people from Crestview,Fl. by Murray

Comment: NO!, I dodnt think its right to have a program that "tax payers" are funding. This isnt free money-- we tax payers are funding it " dont forget...this is not our Presidents money, Congress, House etc... its the working mans taxes paying for someone to have a new car.Define clunker! from Pensacola,Florida by Flower

Comment: The 4500 dollars is tax payers money. I pay enough tax and I do not want to fund someone else's purchase. Buy your own car leave me out of it. from Navarre Fl by Jim

Comment: If I was a Republican I would say no. But Im a Democrate so I will say yes. Just think about all the Social Security that has been taken out of peoples paychecks and some don't reach that age to claim there benefits. Thats money that can be directed to the program. Please let the Republicans know that because they will be the first ones that always complaining that too much money is being spend for good reasons. They can complain about that because it makes since. from Pensacola, FL 32514 by Arthur

Comment: No, but what the heck we own GM, it is the least the american public can do for the other automakers since they didn't get the great handout. from Fort Walton Beach by M.

Comment: Yes! I got in on the program. Traded my old dodge for a new nissan. Taxes and fees help the state, better fuel economy helps the environment, car builders, dealers, truck drivers who deliver the cars, banking industry, and last but not least the customer gets a great deal. Alot better than a bridge to nowhere. from Pensacola, Fl by Charles

Comment: Im all about going green, but 2 billion dollars more! Is this country rotating around the automotive industry? This is what I see. My clunker is doing just fine, and Im wondering how some of these people can afford to trade in these times. I believe its another set up for a big fall. I really want to know where this money tree is! from milton/fl by greg

Comment: With tens of billions of dollars that Congress has already given the auto makers, and with questionable results, it seems that now with a program that is working, they should be doubling or even tripling the "Cash for Clunkers"! I urge every American to call their Senators to demand that they vote yes on more money. from pensacola, fl. by david

Comment: if it gets some of these ridiculesly oversided trucks and SUV's off the road (kinda like their owners)i'm for the expansion...these very vehicles are the major source of dependency on foreign oil. from p'cola fl by h

Comment: waste of money from milton fl by richard

Comment: Why do we insist on digging ourselves deeper into debt? Wake up people - this money has to come from somewhere and somebody WILL ULTIMATELY PAY FOR THIS PROGRAM. Guess who? The American taxpayer, that's who. The more rope that gets dangled in front of us, it seems the bigger the noose we are making. The whole point of a car is to get from point A to point B; with a little frugal engineering, drive that clunker until the wheels fall off. My car is sixteen years old and in better shape that what they are building today. We've got to learn how to take care of our possessions, and it can be done. WITHOUT HAVING TO BANKRUPT THIS NATION EITHER. from Mary Esther, FL. by Tom

Comment: No i don't think this should go on.. What our people like me who's car has 125,000 miles and get a new car because the banks won't give out a loan.. Or want to much money down....... And is thankful everytime the cars starts and hopes I make it to work and home again....... from Pensacola FL by Michelle

Comment: No, It sounded like a good idea at first however I don't think they thought this through all the way. What about the car dealers that re-sell the "clunkers"? Wouldun't you think, this is just spinning our wheels. (No pun intended) They are putting those same or most of the same "clunkers" right back out there. from Pensacola, fl by Mary

Comment: Why do they think that they can take my tax dollars and give it to some one else to upgrade their car. I say NO! from Pensacola by Ronald

Comment: no i do not think. because people out here are about to run out of emerengcy funds on unemployment and needing help. provide more help for unemployment people. they are fixing to become a lot of homeless people because no jobs are opening up out here. from robertsdale al by julie

Comment: really don't care one way or the other. My car misses out but 1 mile. Haven't seen 19 miles per gallon since I owned the car. It is a clunker more so then some of the ones I have seen so far that are getting it from gulf breeze by b

Comment: yes, it seems to be helping the dealers from pensacola, fl by jim

Comment: Our President drives this (Chrysler 300C Output: 340 hp, 390 lb-ft EPA fuel economy, city/highway: 17/25 (17/24 AWD)....you dont see him trading it in do you!Hey President Obama sir...take it in and by a clunker KIA!!!! from Penscola,Florida by Dee

Comment: This will not fix anything in the long run. Its just another way to help bail out companies that should not have been bailed out in the first place. Does any of this help the average person who has lost their job, cannot feed their children, or help pay their bills no. More needs to be done for the smaller business to help keep people working. from Pensacola by Brenda

Comment: Never welfare program - government need to stop give away programs from pensacola fl by lela

Comment: This program is making a minimal impact globally on the environment. The stimulus money seems to come out of thin air. This does not help to improve our national deficit. from Pensacola, FL by Grant

Comment: Tax dollars should not go to bail out private enterprises. This cash for clunkers helped a few at the expense of others. from Milton, Florida by John

Comment: A little late as the Congress has wasted over a Trillion $$ trying the "trickle down" method to jump-start the economy. However, if it was expanded to other products, it would give people incentive to buy -- where the trickle down method doesn't. Say they expanded it to home air conditioners, water heaters, appliances, etc. Offer to pay 50% of the cost and that would incentivize people to buy, replacing inefficient stuff with more energy efficient stuff. It would (or could) put millions of people to work supplying those items. This would have been much better than giving to the banks, wall-street tycoons, and corporations and expecting that to spark demand. I know - long answer - but the government needs to affect the "demand" side of the economy, let Americans decide who survives and who goes bankrupt. Just my 3 cents, Joel from Pace by Joel

Comment: Definately. It should be more. The price for a fulsize car is rediculas. Now car companies are promoting mid size cars which are a bit high also. The car companies need to lower prices because it will help them sell more cars. Salaries have not gone up as fast as the price of cars. from Navarre, Fl. by C J

Comment: This country's politicians have reached a new level of taking from the earners and giving the undeserving. This is an overt misuse of the citizens’ money. from Cantonment / Florida by Joe

Comment: I think that it should be because what about those of us that dont have the credit to get a car or we need to get bills caught up so we can have the money to pay the rest of the money we will owe on the cars. from Pensacola FL by Emily
