Gas Tax: Do you support a three cent per gallon gas tax to fund the public bus system in Escambia County?

5.12% Yes
94.87% No

Comment: I don't feel that the people who but gas, pay car payments, ins, repair bills, etc. should have to pay for someone to ride a public bus. from Pensacola, FL by Neil

Comment: I would have no problem paying this tax, only if it is set up so that none of it could be spent on anything but E.C.A.T. to prevent other agencies from trying to barrow it or E.C.A.T from lending it out. from pensacola / florida by michael

Comment: Escambia County is already the poorest county in the state and the reason being we are taxed to death The gas is already higher the Alabama and Georgia so more taxes is not the solution every time the county need some thing it always add more taxes we need a tax break not more taxes from Pensacola by Mina

Comment: make the people who ride the bus pay more. treat it like any other bussiness. and if it does not generate enough money to support it's self then shut it down. from Pensacola florida by Eric

Comment: No way should more taxes be levied in this economic crunch time, especially when gas prices are going up, up, up again! from Cantonment, FL by Roger

Comment: No WAY!! We get taxed enough. from pensacola by m

Comment: We have TOO many taxes already. Use what you already get to fund FCAT. Maybe we should elect different officials to STOP all the increases in taxes. STOP the ABUSE. from Pensacola by Benson

Comment: I don't agree with this at all. Gas is high enough as it is. I have a better idea, how about just raise the rates for the people who ride the bus rather than making the ones who don't fit the bill. We have to pay higher gas prices to get to and from work and it's costing everyone. If the tables were turned, would it be fair to rasie rates for bus riders to lower gas prices for people who drive? I don't think so. Raise the rates for the people who ride the bus and that would be fair to everyone. from Pensacola, FL by David

Comment: No! just to show you how lame our commission is. You create a form of transportation with QUOTE: "NO DEDICATED SOURCE OF FUNDING" Raise the flippen price and let the EXLAX bus system sustain itself like all other businesses. This crap is a hidden "bail out" like the GM/Chrysler etc deal. I bought a new truck-- I pay for it. Lets raise the gas tax so part of it can help me make payments- LET THE RIDERS PAY FOR THEIR OWN TRANSPORTATION LIKE WE ALL DO! Tired of hearing the SMACK about lower property taxes. W.D. IS ON THE LOOSE AGAIN HERE??? If you ride it..pay the price- if you dont ride it-- WE WHO DONT ARE NOT THE ONES TO SUPPORT A CROOKED COMMISION WHO CREATED A NON FUNDED TRANSPORTATION. I DONT REMBMBER VOTING TO HAVE EXLAX TRANSIT TO START WITH- A BUNCH OF CROOKED B.S. from Pensacola,Fl by D

Comment: HELL NO. There are WAY to many taxes now as it is. We should be demanding the elimination of many taxes, not imposing new ones. At this rate, how long will it be before 75% or more of our income goes to pay taxes of one sort or another? Americans need to scream in one loud voice "THIS IS AMERICA!" and kick these taxing politicians into a bottomless pit. from Cantonment, Fl. by Jeff

Comment: I thin they need to go up on bus fares I am so tried of everytime we turn a round someone wants to go up on gas I am retire and all ready having trouble making ends meet. They can buy a bicycle. from pensacola, fla by paul

Comment: With the price of gas going up as it is, I think its dumb and stupid to add another tax. If we can't afford ECAT, close it down or reduce operation down to where it can be operated within the budget. from Pensacola, FL by Harold

Comment: i would not mind...but i don't think it is going to pass...people around here are not humanitarians they think they are...they are so self absorbed that doing one thing, putting in a quarter in the salvation kettle pot in from of the mall or putting in the dollar at their church, is the only grudging charity they do for others... from p'cola fl by h

Comment: I do not find helping people who need it. ECAT needs to fund itself or shut down. I pay enough taxes to help people, welfare, food stamps, etc. HELL NO TO MORE TAXES. VALENTIO, I WILL VOTE YOU OUT. from Pensacola by Debbie

Comment: Only the users and beneficiaries of the service should pay for it. from Pace by Robert

Comment: It would probably be cheaper to provide taxi service. from Cantonment, Fl by Danny

Comment: The people that are going to have to pay for ECAT are the people that don't use it! Why should we have to pay for something we don't use? Besides, 3 cents per gallon is stupid. Does someone need a pay raise? because 3 cents per gallon would raise an enormous about of money. We were only asked to pay a half cent per gallon for our kids education! from Pensacola by Nathan

Comment: we don't need anything else taxed. we cannot make ends meet now why would we pay more!gas prices are too high now. from pensacola fl. by carissa

Comment: the people of pensacola are already hurting way bring more pain to our pockets its hard enough to try to fillup your gas tank i say find another way from pensacola florida by callie

Comment: I feel if ECAT was really concerned about money, they would cut all the money that is being wasted running the bus in Perdido Key. Ive yet to see anyone on that bus and most of the time it just sits thier running and wasting fuel. from Pensacola, FL. by Jeff

Comment: I'm tired of paying for a few, it seems like the only thing thesecounsil members know slap a tax on something. Then they want to know why people keep moving out of the county. from Cantonment by Richard

Comment: I believe that the people who own vehicles should not have to help pay for those that don't. from Pensacola by Dan

Comment: Absolutely NOT. I don't ride the bus, so why should I support it. Let those that ride the bus pay for it. from FL by Sandy

Comment: I'm already in the poverty level of income. Find another way. from Pensacola, FL by Robert

Comment: You have just got to be kidding. Another .03 cents on top of what we are already paying for gas. That's increadible that anyone would even think such a thing. Let the people who use the bus pay for the bus. I don't use it, it doesn't come anywhere near where I live. I already pay taxes for roads, schools, etc. Now someone wants to dip into my pocket and take more money? That's just got to be someones idea of a BAD joke. from Walnut Hill by Shelley

Comment: I BELIEVE THE CUSTOMER SHOULD PAY A HIGHER FARE . from PENSACOLA FLORIDA by HENRY

Comment: I DO NOT WANT TO PAY FOR MASS TRANSIT. from PENSACOLA by ALEC

Comment: I own a car and my cost per day is about $14.50 plus gas if I go to the grocery store or to a doctor's appointment. If I go nowhere my cost is still $14.50/day. If a person takes an ECAT bus to a doctor's appointment, they pay anywhere from nothing to $1.75/trip. The days they go nowhere it costs them nothing. Double the fare before raising gas taxes, get rid of the oversized and overpaid staff in the big beautiful ECAT building, run more fuel efficient-smaller buses(like Baldwin County Alabama). In other words, trim expenses and overhead, raise fares and let it pay for it's self or get rid of it. I'm on a fixed income and if we keep increasing taxes, no one will have any money. Cut other services or programs rather than adding taxes. Manage our budget(I wonder if anyone in the local government knows how to do that?).vtygg8b from Pensacola, Fl by Mason

Comment: It is absurd to make the taxpayers pay more for gas with people hanging on a shoestring the way it is. Why don't the exec's of ECAT take a pay DEcrease? As a matter of fact, how about the politicians giving up increased salaries PLUS take a pay cut? from Pensacola, Florida by PJ

Comment: i THINK THE PEOPLE WHO USE ecat should be the ones to pay for it.The people with cars have enough trouble paying the rediculous price for gas as it is. from pensacola by bob

Comment: why not tax, beer, wine, liquor. from pensacola by james

Comment: The county says 55% of tax is paid by visitors and tourists. "HOGWASH" !! We do. People of Escambia, Please for the next thirty days write down all the tax you pay per month starting with payroll tax and all the tax on bills you pay, franchise fees, federal tax, just every tax they try to hide. You will be superised at how much we are being robbed. The transit system is a burden on the taxpayers of Escambia County. Hardly no one uses it. Our city and county fathers have taken a nice little town and ruined it. Enough is Enough. from Pensacola by David
