Tobacco regulations: Do you think it's a good idea for the government to regulate tobacco?
| 33.33% | Yes | |
| 66.66% | No |
Comment: No, not the sale of tobacco, but YES, to the chemicals and the bad things that go into making and growing the tobacco. The government has too much control in our lives now, we don't need them governing our tobacco except HOW it is grown. from pensacola by georgia
Comment: Obama is getting into our lives and private affairs too much. He is running rampant and needs to back off. This is America and if he wants to be a dictator let him go to that type of society. The USA does not need all of these czars and instead of messing up America let him start doing what he said when he ran for president. He is showing what little experience he has. from Pensacola, FL by Audrey
Comment: why are they so worried about cigarettes? alcohol kills more people than cigarettes but never hear about them trying to regulate it or stop commercials that show young people having a great time while drinking. not once have i heard of any alcohol company getting sued over a loved one dying of liver failure from chronic alcohol ingestion or even from an alcohol related accident. it's just frustrating to see them still not going after the real problems...candy flavored cigarettes?? who cares!!! from Gulf Breeze, Fl by mike
Comment: People, you need to keep up with whats happening. The government regulating pay for ceo's, tobacco, and talking about farmers next. They want to put a tax on your cellphone and tax snacks. Just the beginning. They want to tell you what to eat now. Don't believe the national news anymore. They lied and told half truths to get Obama elected. We still have our service people being killed in Afghanistan every day. Do they talk about it on the news. NO ! Since Bush is out, they don't think its news worthy anymore. Find a source that tells the truth and keep up with whats going on. from Florida by Kenneth
Comment: I am not a smoker, I don't have anyone in my family that smokes and I do not like tobacco products, but I don't agree with the government trying to tell us what we can and cannot do! This is just another way the government is trying to take away our freedom and making us "rely" on government! The government should do what the PEOPLE want, not what the government wants. What is next? from Milton, FL by E
Comment: If the government wants to regulate something. Let them regulate the fuel companies. Do this to help all the people of the USA. Put a freeze on the price of fuel. Let the smokers, smoke, or it will end up like the depression. Bootlegging and black-market sales! from Pensacola Fl by Barbara
Comment: Government can't even regulate government correctly. What makes anyone think that they can regulate tobacco, banking, or car companies without totally screwing them up like they have the Legislative, Executive and Judicial branches. If government was a horse, they'd be sent to the glue factory. from Cantonment, Fl. by Jeff
Comment: Normally,I would disagree with more government involvement in private industry; however, this is proven to be a business that kills people. For years, we've tried the morbid ad route - to no avail. Our own president is having his personal conflict with nicotine addiction, myself, I quit 'cold turkey' over twenty years ago. So I do know a little about this subject, it's high time that we start to practice what we preach. We encourage life, we don't want to take it away from anyone prematurely. from Mary Esther, Fl. by Tom
Comment: Can you say USSa united socalest states of America when the government controls what we the people chose to do that is communistic is it or not? from fort Walton bch. by gregory
Comment: Yes, to regulating tobacco, the adds, the products, etc. Alcohol is strictly regulated and so should tobacco. from Niceville, Florida by Greg
Comment: yes! definately! after all the cover ups and outright lies the tobacco industry has given us in the last few decades...they need to be regulated heavily! communicate truefully to adult consumers...my butt! from p'cola fl by h
Comment: No! If this continues the government will control every aspect of our life. Ask Russia how they like it. from pensacola, fl by dorothy
Comment: Why shall you sell something that you know for a fact that will kill you. Give you cancel! I believe you should taxes the tobacco company in a very high rate... from Pensacola, Florida by Geraldine
Comment: I don't smoke, never have but I've been exposed to second hand smoke from my father growing up. He died of a heart attack & so did my younger brother at age 42. I now have 3 blocked arteries & had 2 stints put in on 6/11/09 in my arteries. I am at risk for a heart attack. In my household my husband, daughter & grand-daughter all smoke OUTSIDE. I think the government should regulate tobacco. I feel very strongly about this. from Mary Esther, Florida by Pam
Comment: If the government is going to regulate tobacco (for the consumers health), then they (government) also needs to regulate the All U Can Eat Buffets and the restaurant portion sizes, especially for the consumers that are not within an ideal healthy weight! After all, isn't all of this for the 'good health of the general public?' from Navarre
Comment: Why are we not regulating alcohol sales. More people die from alcohol related injuries than from being in a room with a smoker. I work in an office full of alcoholics and yet every time I step outside to smoke I get harrassed. No one blinks an eye at 5:00 pm when everyone else is popping open a beer or pouring a glass of wine while still at work and then driving home. This is rediculious. from Pensacola, FL by Joy
Comment: After the way the government regulated the banks, I just hope they do a better job of regulating tobacco from Pensacola, Fla by David
Comment: No, it's not necessary. If, as a society, we wish to make tobacco illegal, that's up to us and our legislators. Otherwise, back off big brother! We can think for ourselves and make choices. from Pensacola / FL by Rick
