Tax protests: Do you think Americans pay too much in taxes?
| 85.36% | Yes | |
| 14.63% | No |
Comment: The only way to solve this is to enact the fair tax or national sales tax. That way EVERYONE would pay their fair share and the tax could be collected along with the state sales tax thus eliminating 95% of the IRS not counting the burdensome reporting by individuals. When people see what it takes in sales tax they would be voting the budget down at every election along with new people to the taxing positions. from Pensacola,FL. by Ron
Comment: I don't particularly like paying taxes, but I like to ride on good roads, have decent schools, depend on my police and fire departments, have my public service needs met. My kids need parks and recreation areas, and I actually believe those less fortunate than I need a helping hand. I don't see the private sectpr as being capable of providing these services for me and mine. so, I pay my taxes. I also like the idea that we have a great military that works very hard to maintain our security. I don't like the bailouts, but I also don't like "fat cats" not paying their fair share of taxes. Life isn't always fair, and I am optimistic that things will work out. I have never met a politician that I agreed with 100%, nor have I met a preacher with whom I agreed 100%. Think about how much we have in this area that is tax exempt, church owned property, "non-profit" hospitals, etc. Maybe a protest around them may help equalize the tax base. from Pensacola, FL by Carey
Comment: When you have the the government planning on spending 200% on a budget it is given 100% of the money from 50% of the people, while borrowing the other 100% to do so, one has to wonder what are they spending it on? Taxation without representation is one thing, but having to burden the tax payers with an interest payment to boot is rediculous. Thing is the government is throwing trillions of dollars of American tax payer money away on socialist policies that create dependance on government spending rather than dividends. Our government having devoured our credit reserves thanks to implementing socialist policies to capitalism. The failed ideology of socialist policies that have destroyed countries are now on the verge of not only destroying our economy but country. Now that the credit reservoirs are frozen, the government is using what is left of this nations prosperity by going after the rich to finish what they started in forcing this independant nation to be changed into a dependant one. Today's Tea Party was a rally all over this country to protest the change that has this independant nation forced to be dependant on the government, than made independant of it. Today's rally was for real hope, not the hope that is acting as nothing more than a wrapping on a socialist time bomb aimed to destroy this nation. Here is a link to a slide show of some picks I took, as well as footage of me pouring communist China tea into the river to protest socialisms reign over this nation. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f1m6WNF6jeY http://w258.photobucket.com/pbwidget...h/2a2f15db.pbw from Atlantic Beach by Omar
Comment: Overall we pay more than we should but the alternative of no services, reduced services, education, etc., is even more distasteful. from Pensacola, FL by James
Comment: Nowhere in our Constitution is a provision for the taxation of income. It is enslavement! Thanks, Bill from Pensacola/Fl. by Bill
Comment: Too much government spending and taxes on top of taxes!! I do not believe anything that Washington says about taxes being cut. If they give back with one hand they are taking more away with the other hand from Lillian / AL by Elizabeth
Comment: It seems that some believe raising taxes is the solution to all our problems. One with common sense realizes that paying more taxes takes money directly away from our local economies. from Crv by JD
Comment: Current taxes are fairly appropriate. However, the spending packages and bailouts hold the promise of greatly increased taxes of all forms to pay for all this unnecessary growth and spending. from Gulf Breeze, FL by Don
Comment: My main problem is the passing of legislation without even reading it first. I expect the people we put in office to do the work they're voted in to do, and that includes knowing what they're voting for! from Pensacola, FL by Susan
Comment: The tax system needs changing. We need a Flat Tax, if everyone would pay 12 to 15% of what they make without any dedions. from pensacola by Cliff
Comment: Based on the shoddy service we're getting...definitely. When McDonalds charges too much, you go to Burger King...but the only way to escape unnecessarily high taxes is to vote out the tax-hiking politicians. One problem is that one party's base consists mostly of taxpayers, and the other party's base of non-income-taxpaying government beneficiaries. Another problem is that only a cut in the corporate tax rate will allow businesses to hire workers and create jobs, which is the only way to end this recession. Government can't spend our way out of it by taxing Peter to pay Paul. from Pensacola, FL by Faith
Comment: absolutely yes, what do the republicans think our ancestors left and came here to America for, TOO MUCH TAXES.WE NEED A BREAK FROM THE PEOPLE LIKE CHRIS HUGHS WHO THINK THEY CAN! DISTRIBUTE MONEY TO THE RICH AND POCKET "OUR" TAX MONEY FOR THEMSELVES, they seem to 'like' try to be reverse robin hoods. that is why we are in this mess now, too much ME - ME - AND TO "H"... WITH THE POOR. from Crestview, Fla. by Alice
Comment: Between County, State and Federal Taxes, I have to work over 1/5th of the year just to pay taxes. However, the question is not how much I have to pay right now, it's how much I'll (as well as my children and grandkids) will have to pay in the near future. If I ran my personal bank account like the government is running the countries, I'd be in jail, pure and simple. from Pensacola/FL by Michael
Comment: With all the money they are printing the only out come is we will pay more taxes in everthing and I can't cut back anymore. So enough is enough. from pensacola, fl by nancy
Comment: I think each and every person should pay at least some tax. not just ride the backs of sucsessful people from pace fl by william
Comment: The tax protest was a first step. I was somewhat disappointed at your 11PM news Wed. The reporter stated this looked like a protest against Obama & Democrates. You sound like CNN. That was not what I saw at the protest. You should report the news, not your political viewpoints. from Pensacola/FL by Mitch
Comment: I just checked my wallet...I didnt see any of the 120 billion in there that President Obama referred to. However the big wheels @ all the bail outs recievers (greedy suckers that cant manage a company) love the bonuses they give each other at the tax payers expense. Dont really understand how the tax payers are funding the bail outs to the misfits who cant run corporations can have more in our wallet. Smoke and mirrors politics again. from pensacola,fl by D
Comment: Federal Income tax is illegal. The Continental Congress was opposed to this type of tax. We became a superpower without income tax. Tax what we spend not what we make. It will put more money in citizens pockets and stimulate the economy. The wealthy elite and people on welfare handouts don't pay taxes. That means those working for a living pay taxes to support everyone else. from Pensacola/FL by Joel

Comment: I think everyone that makes the same amount of money should all pay the same amount of taxes. There should be brackets that go per $500. from Milton by Teresa
Comment: We are taxed on everything! Need I say more.... from Pace, Fl by Debra
Comment: The answer is YES - today - and most importantly down the road. Most working Americans pay, by estimation, 50% of their gross pay in taxes (15-35% Federal, 5-10% state and local property and school taxes, 7% sales taxes, and a variety of use taxes and sin taxes). Of course, those who make a high income, with a current marginal income tax rate of 35%, pay more. That's no problem in our society - up to a point. But, ehen a minority of people are paying well over 1/3 of their income to the government and are supporting the majority who are simply taking from Daddy government, the minority will start to leave in greater numbers than they do today. There is no free lunch society in the world. Those who tell you that government is responsible for all of your needs have not read our Constitution and are leading the country to ruin. from Pensacola / FL by Rick
Comment: I don't think we pay too much taxes; but I do think that the taxes we do pay never quite make it to their intended usages. We have too many politicians and political staffs standing in between the tax and the intended use of the tax. from Mary Esther, FL. by Tom
Comment: We're being taxed to death. from Niceville, Fl. by Phil
Comment: Not just yes...but HELL yes! from Cantonment, Fla. by Jeff
Comment: i kinda agree on the flat tax but i was thinking of something more fair...eliminate the income tax and just go straight to a national sales tax! i guess this would help eliminate waste spending and will only tax those who keeps buying stuff...even things they don't need! from p'cola fl by h
Comment: We are the most spoiled bunch of whiners i have ever seen..We bitch about everything...if we dont pay more taxes our children surely will from mary esther florida by frank
