| 24.13% | Yes | |
| 75.86% | No |
Comment: I DO NOT THINK IT WOULD BE NEEDED IF THE MARITIME PARK WAS DISCARDED. SUCH A WASTE OF MONEY WHEN FLORIDA IS IN SO MUCH MONEY TROUBLES. BESIDES THE FACT THE FIRST MAJOR HURRICANE WILL DEMOLISH IT LIKE IVAN AND DENNIS DID. IT'S A NO BRAINER TO ME.WE ARE ABOUT TAXED OUT NOW.SDGW from PENSACOLA,FL by SHIRLEY
Comment: It is truly a sad commentary on our area that we refuse to step up and support our future. It has been said before and has never been more true, "Pay me now, or pay me later." from pensacola, florida by r
Comment: Drop a few of the staff of the Lottery before taxing us more at this time of hardship. The Lottery says they give so much to education, but it was instead of the money that was going to education and should have been added to what they were getting. from Pensacola by Robert
Comment: Please don't close too many. from Pensacola/ FL by Donald
Comment: I certainly would be for the penny increase if the teachers were teaching the children, but just using them as baby sitters, as they are now, they don't deserve what they are currently getting. Children are much better off being home schooled than educated by so-called educators. from Pensacola by Oscar
Comment: I am all for improving local education, as I look at the WEAR poll which tells me 50% of response are for the tax and 75% are against, it looks like the pollster must be a product of Escambia public education. from Lutz, fl by Lillian
Comment: School boards have to "suck it up and learn to make do with less" as the rest of us are having to do. With the economy like it is now sometimes there is just "no more penny" to spend on anything. from Pace, FL by Marilyn
Comment: use the lotery monies where it was originally planned...in the public schools....not in the universities. from pensacola by georgia
Comment: Absolutely not. More money is not the answer. We are already paying too many taxes. from Pensacola,FL by Lee R
Comment: We are taxed enough at this critical time and why not tax liqour or cigarettes AND BARS, STRIP CLUBS WHICH HURT PEOPLE RATHER THAN HURT THE FAMILIES STRUGGLING TO MAKE IT TODAY! to get the needed funds & also what happen to all the gambling monies the schools were supposed to get?!! I am for the schools getting the money needed but why hasn't the lotto helped? I think we need explantaion as to where the LOTTO MONEY HAS GONE! HAVE A BLESSED DAY. IF QUESTION ON LOTTO MONEY IS ANSWERED WE WOULD BE MORE WILLING TO SUPPORT THE PENNY INCREASE TO SALES TAX. from pensacola fl by wilma
Comment: no! from pensacola beach by dwight
Comment: Yes, I do support this our kids are the future and we must as a society give them all the necessary tools to learn. from Pensacola, Fl by Steve
Comment: Not only no....but #$%^&* NO. There is no such thing with government as a temporary tax. Look at the LOST funding into its second ten years. Schools need to be more responsible for the funds they spend. If they would include how much money they spend per student including all funding sources and not simply what they receive from ad velorum taxes, I might be more inclined. If they used purchasing of volume materials (economy of scale) including text books. If they reused text books like we did twenty years ago. History hasn't changed that much in the last three years - but we have had three different history books. I want that contract. We waste too much money. Recycle and take that money to make up for short falls. Let kids walk to school. from Pensacola by Abby
Comment: Restructuring our taxes does not seem to be a legislative priority but the cuts that have already happened are hurting our students this year. We can not afford the proposed cuts for next year. We MUST educate our children if we do nothing else. I strongly support a tax to provide more money for schools. from MIlton by C
Comment: NO NO NO Start an investigation on where all the lottery money is going. Not for schools for sure. Then start taxing all citizens that have children in school, for school. I like so many have no children in school for 30 years and pay school taxes every year. Enough is enough. from pensacola fl by jim
Comment: What about all the lottery money that was to go for education? Another way to peddle for somelses mistakes, and we'll end up paying for it. from Pace, Fla by Jack
Comment: There is no such thing as a "Temporary Tax". When has any short or long term tax ever been abolished? They should have taken the money that payed for this poll and applied to the classrooms. from Cantonment by Chester
Comment: NO I do not support a penny Tax I cant find the help I need Im disabled and Is not supposed to be working But Since Im threatened with power water and other stuff being turned off. But thats another story I dont support a tax of any kind. to fund the schools let the legislators restore the funding that they removed when they thought the Lottery would completely fund the school system then approach this non parent again bout a tax. from Pensacola, FL by Paul
Comment: When Malcolm Thomas & the massive administrative staffs in the schools take a pay cut to teacher salary level, then we will know that they are serious about educating children instead of looking out for themselves. State employees, who haven't had a raise in 3 years are being asked to take a 5% paycut - why not school administrators? Who's more important, a teacher for education or an adminstrator? from Cantonment, FL by Kitty
Comment: Not just NO but HEck NO. Over 1/2 of our county taxes already go to the schools. The proposed 800 million dollar increase in cigarrette taxes is supposed to go to the schools. How much more do they want? from Pensacola,Fl by Dennis
Comment: The school systems must quit yo-yo'ing budgets. The budgets should be leveled over time. Excess money should be banked and used in bad times. from Crestview/Fl by Fred
Comment: Between late 80's and early 90's the schools of Florida was in dier straits. The Lottery was the only way they would survive. Lottery moneys would keep them going. After moving to Charleston. WV we received rumors that for every dollar the lottery put in the school fund, the legistration took out one. Many of us were against this because it just didn't sound right. So now, while other states donot have the lottery and their schools are still running, you are calling for a tax (In addition to lottery) to run your school. ????? from Previous resident of Kissmmee,FL by Rufus E.
Comment: More Money isn't the answer. There is too much dead weight, it should be trimed.by me
Comment: Define " cuts to schools" The education system is a business with glutted portions of administration "staff" Cut all the "assistants" and make admins do their friggen job.Thats where you get more money.Too many butt heads delegating and not doing. from Pensacola,FL by D
Comment: I think the schools should cut back on unnecessary things and they would have enough money to very well on. from cantonment by jess
Comment: There is no such thing as a "Temporary" tax. Polls can be biased in whatever direction you want them to be to support or oppose a particular issue. No more taxes! from Pensacola by John
Comment: Rather than further tax the buying public that is having a hard enough time making ends meet, draw more funds from those famous lottery dollars that are supposed to be helping education. After all, that was supposed to be the driving force on justification for having a lottery to begin with, funding education...yeah right. from Pace FL by Shawn
Comment: Children are the future and they must receive an education. In addition, county school taxes should be at maxium millage: which would mean 20-50 dollars per private home. from milton/fl by paula
Comment: No I do not. My kids are beyond school at this point; but I am still against the proposal because we do not know where that money will end up. Just look at the lottery, originally set up for education benefits, outside of paying off winners, how much money actually gets to the education system? I'm afraid that this proposed tax increase will also go anywhere but where it is intended. from Mary Esther, Fl. by Tom
