Prostitution letters: Do you think letters to the spouses of a prostitute's customers are an effective way to deal with prostitution?
| 55% | Yes | |
| 45% | No |
Comment: I think this is very valid and holds the individual responsible for their actions. Furthermore, gives their partner a choice to know if indeed they may have been exposed to a STD without consent. The significant other then can make their choice whether to have tests done. It is putting responsibility and giving others a choice. Thanks. from Pensacola by Jayleen
Comment: Yes I believe that the women are at risk and have every right to know. from florida by danielle
Comment: Our taxpayers' dollars sure are going to some fine, deep-thinking law-enforcement assets, aren't they? Why wouldn't you want to send letters to a "John's" family, and freinds? Heck, they deserve to have their hearts broken by the ECSO. We should send a Deputy over to their homes and shoot their dog, flat their tires, and why not tazer the children while they're at it... Geezus Khreyest... What's in the drinking water around here that makes everyone so phreeking r-e-t-a-r-d-e-d? Oh yeah, it's the fluoride - and the citizens actually thought that was a good idea too... from Gonzalez, FL by Bucky
Comment: they also need to show photos. they could see just how ugly these females are. and their neighbors can know what they are upto.. they could be predators, as one of the last bunch was, a firefighter,a preacher, a marine.etc. let their buddies know just how deployable they are..... from pensacola/fl by dolores
Comment: Are you sure you want to give that kind of power to our Sheriff? Will he also be able to send a letters to your employer if you're arrested for a crime? What if it turns out you are innocent? I don't condone crimes being comitted (prostitution or otherwise); but I don't support that kind of authority being given to the sheriff's office. It's not their job. Find another way. from Pensacola Florida by Bill
Comment: The separation of church and state should preclude any police involvement in personal affairs. The logical extension would be to prosecute adultery and any intimate contact between consenting adults. Prostitution has been around for thousands of years an it cannot be stopped. It would be better to license and tax the profession. The underlying reason could also be addressed by providing medical exams and treatment for addictions. It is prevalent in all countries and civilizations. Police should interfere and stop real crimes and leave the lonely miserable people alone. from FWB, FL by ray
Comment: I think this is a direct attempt to impose someone else's values onto other people. It may be illegal to solicit a prostitute but I think it is immoral to send a letter that the sheriff knows may ruin a person's marriage and/or life. I cannot imagine County Commissioners approving such a blatant attempt to shame and hurt people. If this does happen in Escambia County it just strengthens my decision not to live or do business there (and NO, I do not use prostitutes); I just feel strongly that this would be wrong! from Milton by John
Comment: I don't believe that sending letters to spouses will deter prostitution, but I do believe spouses have the right to know if their significant other is having sex with a prostitute who may bring home some kind of disease. from Pensacola, FL by Carol
Comment: I think this would be a very effective deterent. I am also a big supporter of the health issue behind this. One of my friends now has an incurable STD due to her husbands behavior in this department. The sooner they get this through, the better. from Pensacola, FL by Marissa
Comment: How could a husband be arrested and his wife not know the reason? Tax payers money should not pay for this. If a woman cares what her husband is doing, she should already know about it! from Mary Esther by Sue
Comment: Yes I think it's a great idea...I would want to know if my husband was messin around w/a prostitute. It's disgusting.I would'nt be w/him after I found out. from molino,fl by Kristi
Comment: ok...what happens if they are not married? send a letter to their mothers? how about sending a letter to their employers? church? or publish the letter in the local paper? from p'cola fl by h
Comment: I think this is a good idea to let the spouses of cheaters know what STD's they may be being exposed to. I mean really what cheater is going to admit to a spouse they are cheating. Public embarrassment should also be looked into, publish the photo of the perp! from Pensacola by Dianna
Comment: The police are not parents... is there job to arrest them for breaking the law, but anything else such as letters to wives is not their job. If these men are so desperate to end up on Cervantes, a letter to their wife probably won't make much of a difference! from Milton, Florida by Shelli
Comment: It should be legal, taxed and regulated. If they are arrested how could the wife not know anyway. from Pensacola, FL. by Tom
Comment: I think a married woman or man has the right to know if his or her mate is involved with prostitutes. Disease abounds among prostitutes and the mate should not be unaware of the danger of contracting a disease from them. Hopefully it would also get them off the streets due to lack of customers. from Pensacola, FL by Mary Ann
Comment: You betcha' ! If it were my spouse, I'd surely want to know. from Pensacola, Fl. by Dorothy
Comment: I think it is a great idea. My health would be alot more important than staying with him!! I would want to know. from Pensacola Fl by Cyndee
Comment: I think it is good to let the spouses know what their health risk may be. from Pensacola / FL by Donald
Comment: Before you send a letter to someone's spouse, you need to know what ther emotional stability is...the spouse may not be able to handle that type of information and could potentially do harm to themselves and others. Not a good idea. from Cantonment by Lynne
Comment: most wives KNOW when their husbands go to visit a prostitute...what do you want to do...rub it in their faces? personally, i think that prostitution should be legalized, have the ladies medically checked every 3 months showing they are 'clean' and tax the hell out of their services. also, leave the cigarettes alone, they are already taxed too much. why isn't booze taxed more? whiskey, etc..causes more problems throughout the U.S. than cigarettes would ever dream of. Just my thoughts, would love to hear some reactions to them. from pensacola by georgia
Comment: When I lived in Tampa, I saw the results of over-aggressive undercover policewomen enticing and arresting men who were absolutely innocent. Is the sheriff going to send out apology letters to those who are found not guilty? Too little too late. I may look more kindly upon the idea if the letters were only sent out upon conviction. That said, if I got such a letter I would probably fondly pat the old spouse on the back and tell him I never thought he had it in him. There are so many worse things a man can do than solicit a professional, I say legalize and regulate prostitution to protect ALL people involved. from Navarre, FL by Mary
Comment: I think it's a great idea, the spouse should be notified. That way they could be checked for any STD's that could be carried by their partner. from Pensacola, Fl by Tammy
Comment: Not only should a letter be sent to the wife, but both offenders name and address should be published in the news paper so EVERYONE knows; mothers , fathers, brothers , sisters, preists, pastors, inlaws, employers! from Pensacola, Florida by Jeanene
Comment: If someone wants to cheat, he is going to cheat. In this economic climate, men faced with this possibility might look where they can get it for free. I think the health notification is a good idea, but this won't stop straying husbands/partners. from Niceville/FL by Vikki
Comment: No. Prostitution is the oldest proffesion in the world. It even dates back to Biblical times. My question is are most of these offenders, repeat offenders. The letters would be a waste of taxpayer dollars and just another way for the coutny sherriff's department to demean it's citizens even further. Would it really protect and serve the community if we sent the letters to the families? The families are probably already going to be torn apart over the arrest. Save them the ridicule and the guilt. If we want to deter prostitution, do something about it on the streets, and the internet. Enforce the laws that are already in place and quit wasting taxpayer dollars with stamps. from Milton, Florida by Willy
Comment: It is morally wrong, not to mention the health risks involved. Informing the spouse is the right thing to do, it's common sense. How could anyone not agree with this unless they are guilty themselves. Amanda Pensacola from Pensacola FL by Audrey
Comment: I strongly believe the wife must know what diseases her husband is bringing home. This should detour many men. from Pensacola FL by Carolyn
Comment: Then we'd just have a bunch of divorced people frequenting prostitutes, and probably moreso since they don't have a female partner at home. It is nothing new, prostitution has been around since the beginning of time, a letter to a spouse isn't going to stop it. from Pensacola, FL by J
Comment: i think thats a great idea,i believe that will help stop this crime and stop these men from commiting this act. from pensacola,fl.32504 by gerohan
Comment: I don't have a problem with a judge requiring such letters but I do have a problem with the sheriff issuing letters. We have courts to administer justice and the sheriff should just do his job and leave guilt and punishment up to the courts. from Pensacola/FL by Mike
Comment: I think it's a great idea. from Pensacola, FL by Jacqui
