Kicked off flight: Was the removal of an American Muslim family from an Airtran Airlines flight justified?

68.08% Yes
31.91% No

Comment: While I understand being safe, I do not agree with how they were treated, especially the children. from Mobile, AL

Comment: DAMN RIGHT! from PENSACOLA by ED

Comment: If I heard them openly discussing the safest place on the plane, I would have volunteered to remove them from Gulf Breeze, FL. by Robert

Comment: it is called racial profiling for a reason, there aren't many white young or old who threaten our country. it is 99% of the time someone of middle eastern descent. the measures airtran has taken is sufficient. if the people didn't like it, go home!! from fort walton beach fl by c

Comment: Why were they discussing where to sit if they were passengers on a flight with assigned seating? This would seem suspicious to me too. from Pensacola, FL by Jennifer

Comment: I'm glad that Air Tran booted those terrrorists off. Why would you have a conversation like that? The hundreds of other passengers arriving in Orlando safely is more important than if some bastard is offended. I love Air Tran. It's too bad they got a refund. from Pensacola, FL by Lindsay

Comment: Muslims need to be a little more sensitive and understanding. It's a two way street. from Pensacola by John

Comment: Yes they were justified in removing them from the flight. I feel a lot better about flying AirTran and praise them fro their actions!!! from Pensacola, Florida by Lester

Comment: Yes, the removal of these passengers was the proper thing to do. Why were they "picking and choosing" their seating? I always fly Air Tran and I'm always assigned a seat. Muslims should not put Americans in the position of wondering what they are doing. from Dauphin Island, AL. by Jean

Comment: Once they were cleard they should've been allowed to catch a later flight with AirTran. Not to catch another company's at their own expense, then wait for a refund. from FWB by Lana

Comment: They were cleared and should have been allowed to re-board the plane and be on their way !!! from Milton, FL by Jo

Comment: The other 95 passengers had the right to feel at ease on the flight to Orlando. To reboard them would have been a mistake. from Milton, Fl by Jim

Comment: They knew exactly what they were doing. Now they will sue the airline!! Go back to your Muslim country or be quiet... from gulf breeze, fla by joanne

Comment: We should put an immediate stop on allowing all Muslims to enter the U.S.for purposes other than business. They push their rligion in our faces by their manner of dress and public demands for "call to prayer" e.g. Dearborn,Mich. If we allow this to continue we will lose our culture as is happening with the French, Dutch and English. from Cantonment/ FL by Art

Comment: talking or joking about security is inappropriate. If a person is suspicious, remove them. Better safe than sorry. from lillian,al by jim

Comment: As a former flight attendant, I know that comments made by passengers that are enough to raise any sort of suspicion or concern need to be taken very seriously. Apparently, the captain felt there was sufficient cause for concern and made the decision to the passenger from mary esther, fl by jan

Comment: Hysteria dominated this event. The air lines need to be sued as they refused even after the people were cleared to allow the people to conitinue on to vacation.I understand security very well, but his went way past security once the FBI cleared and the air lines "AirTran Airways " used profiling and vindictivness to the end..yet they claim they did nothing wrong. Tehy did a lot of things wrong from the get go. from Pensacola/Fl by D

Comment: The people who were asked to get off of the plane seem like nice enough people. However, they have to understand that WE, as a nation, are at WAR with Muslim nations. This particular culture wants the US, along with Israel, to be taken off the face of the Earth. There NEEDS to be precautions...and actions taken to protect OUR people! So-called "profiling" is the only way that crimes are stopped. Being PROACTIVE pays off a lot of times. Profiling or prejudiceness are, unfortunately, unavoidable when our country is full of so many races. It's not the first time. We had Japanese American men fighting in WWII, FOR America and they had similar issues! It is a part of this nasty thing called war. The muslim people as a whole have to understand this and be tolerant to SOME types of inconvenience to protect us. Nobody will ever call these kind of actions KIND or Convenient... but at times, such as these, I am thankful that we have men and women with enough courage to take action when there is concern. Thanks for letting me verbalize my feelings! from Milton, FL by Heather

Comment: My questuib us would the family been kicked off of the flight if they were Black or White? I would ask the same question,"What is the best place to sit in on a plane". Would that make me a terroist? from Pensacola, FL. by Betty

Comment: I'm spit-balling this one. Not having been there, one cannot unequivically say yea or nay based on one-side stories. The airline, according to THEIR rules may have been perfectly justified in their action. The family (regardless) of country affiliation just may have violated their policies. From my own personal experiences, I can say that being an American DOES NOT entitle you to push your beliefs or feelings onto those of other nations. "WHEN IN ROME, DO AS THE ROMANS DO". If you want to leave this country, don't expect to be treated "special" at your destination just because you are an American. from Mary Esther, FL. by Tom

Comment: "other passengers overheard conversation and reported them..." and exactly who were these idiots that were listening in on other people's conversation? all i see is blantant racism on the actions on the airlines and the "citizens" reporting...i guess next time a white conservative christian or a redneck is seated next to me on a plane, i'll report them as a "domestic terrorist" who wants all minorities, non-christian, or "liberals" dead! from p'cola by h

Comment: its like world war II, the japaness were put in camps to protect us and them? what else can you do when a certain nationality starts killing people in Gods name, they take no prisoners, kill children and woman with bombs Im not sure I'd want to sit next to someone of this nationality without maybe security looking in his stuff first?, Im sorry, You cant fight a spiritual war with bullets, dc from milton by dana

Comment: I think they were wrong in making the muslim passengers get off. If they had been of another appearance--say "American looking" their 2nd guessing of the airplane's security wouldn't have been questioned...its just another example of how America hasn't gotten over racism or prejudice tendencies. from Pensacola,FL by Keyauna

Comment: i think that you should be careful what is said when you are talking about where is the safest place to sit on a plane.cause after 911 people take stuff like that serious. from pensacola by jerica

Comment: Yes! It's better to be safe than sorry. These are trying times and if they were born American citizens, they should understand the severity of 9/11 and want to make sure nothing like that happens again. Don't let your guard down!!! from Milton/FL by A

Comment: In this time of world problems, people of any race, color or regligion need to watch what they say. We are told to report any suspicious activity or words. So, whatch what you say and do. from Pensacola by Eamm

Comment: From the time one purchas- es a ticket, enters an air- port, boards a plane a passen- ger is deluged with security warnings. They are urged to report the slightest suspicious behavior. The pen- alty for ignoring a concern could be as draconian as a second 9-11. Those who notifi- ed authorities, the authori- ties who acted were well with- in accepted and expected be- havior. If the people removed from the aircraft con- sider themselves discriminat- ed against let them use other means of transportation. Nev- forget it was Muslims who took out the World Trade Cen- ter. from Pensacola, Florida by Robin

Comment: Our founding fathers would never allow our own laws to be used against us. While this family may be nice folks, thier religous leaders have made the Muslim position very clear, "death to the infidels", which is us. The family is ok and they have no plans on supporting the USA. Time to move on! from Pensacola, Fl by Steve

Comment: Reminds me of when Japan attacked Pearl Harbor. Every Japanese were our enemy. In these times and for safety reasons I agree, but personally I disagree because not all Muslims are our enemy. from Pensacola, FL by Andrew

Comment: The airlines talk about safety and what to do in case of an emergency. Planes even have safety cards for passangers to read. The cards are there to make passangers be informed. I guess safety you aren't suppose to talk about safety in public while on planes. from Fort Walton Beach by Gary

Comment: I believe that the airline should trust in their security measures. It is important to remember that the 2nd worst terror attach in the U.S. was committed by a good old white boy from a christian family...I believe Timothy Mcveigh's name should ring a bell. Do we target white males? I don't think so. from Navarre, Fl by Jason

Comment: All muslims should be kicked out of this country. There is no such thing as an american muslin. Americans are christians only. from milton,fl. by james

Comment: Definitely not. Terrorists are from every culture and race. Have we forgotten the Oklahoma City Bombing, KKK, American Nazi Party, Skin Heads and American gangs. Lets not let our fear fueled by news reports deny take us back to the stone age! from Mary Esther Florida by Nolan

Comment: ABSOLUTELY NOT. I AM OUTRAGED AT THIS AIRLINE. JUST BECAUSE THIS WAS A MUSLIM FAMILY DOES NOT MEAN THAT THEY ARE A SECURITY RISK. IF THIS WAS A WHITE FAMILY SAYING THE SAME COMMENT THIS WOULD HAVE NEVER HAPPENED. THE TRUTH IS THAT THERE ARE MORE WHITE AMERICAN TERRORIST IN THIS COUNTRY. THE NUMBER 1 TERROR GROUP IS THE KKK. ALL OF THE HATE AND TURMOIL THAT THEY PUT PEOPLE THROUGH, NO ONE IS SCARED OF WHITE AMERICAN MEN. EVEN AFTER THE OKLAHOMA CITY BOMBING, THE UNIBOMBER, THE COLUMBINE INCIDENT ETC... NO ONE IS SCARED OF AMERICAN WHITE MEN. THIS IS JUST RACISM DIRECTED TOWARDS A DIFFERENT GROUP. I WILL NEVER PURCHASE A TICKET ON AIRTRAN BECAUSE OF THIS AND I WILL MAKE SURE THAT MY FAMILY AND FRIENDS WILL NOT EITHER. IF THIS WERE THE 60'S THEY WOULD HAVE KICKED THE FAMILY OFF IF THEY WERE BLACK. I WILL BOYCOTT AIRTRAN FROM THIS DAY FORWARD. THESE PEOPLE NEED TO DO RESEARCH ON THE RELIGION OF ISLAM. OBVIOUSLY THEY ARE IGNORANT TO THE FACT THAT TRUE MUSLIMS DONT BLOW UP THEMSELVES,INNOCENT PEOPLE, OR THINGS. ISLAM IS A RELIGION OF PEACE. IF THERE IS A GROUP OF PEOPLE THAT ANYONE SHOULD FEAR TERRORISM THEY NEED TO LOOK AT THE TERRORIST IN OUR COUNTRY WHO DONT PRACTICE ANY RELIGION, AND WHO DONT LOVE GOD! PLEASE POST THIS COMMENT. from PENSACOLA, FL by RASHEDA

Comment: In a way it was wrong to kick them off the airplane but they also have to understand that you can not have that kind of a conversation on an airplane about the security. The airline employees did their jobs by removing people who are suspicious or not. They should be happy that they got their money back from the airline and got on another plane. from Pensacola by Kay

Comment: what would happened if the pilot had let them on the plane, and something had happened,so safety has to be considered for all. from pensacola,fl by glen

Comment: Better to be safe than sorry. So some feelings was hurt, it could be made up for. from Pensacola , FL by Don
