| 57.14% | Yes | |
| 42.85% | No |
Comment: that is called socialism from pensacola, fl by donita
Comment: It is our own responsibility to take care of our health care! The more the govenment is responsible, the more we will be leaning towards socialized medicine and government! God Bless America. from Pensacola (Perdido Key), FL by Carol
Comment: With all the rules and regulations that the government has imposed on our everyday life's,we now have to lean on them for everything we do as a nation now.Once the government got into every one's personal business and their decisions ,They slid down the slippery slope,So now we are to this point as a way of life from pace Florida by Robert
Comment: It is not the responsibility of the government to ever feed us or take care of our health. It is, however, the responsibility of the government to make sure people are not taken advantage of. With that said, insurance companies (health, auto, homeowners, etc.) should be monitored more. Also, people should never be forced to have insurance at all. Healthcare providers should give the same "breaks" to patients without insurance as they do to those who do have insurance. from Crestview, FL by Kelly
Comment: The United States is one of the only countries in the world that doesn't have free health care for it's citizens. The greed of the health industry has driven good health care for any American to almost out of reach, especially people living on a fixed income. Insurance companies lie and tell people their health care would be worse if it were provided by the government but this isn't true The public seems brainwashed by the lies. It's a shame we don't stand up more and say no to greed. It's the reason our great country is in the shape it is now. from Pensacola/FL by Karen
Comment: The Government should pay everyone's health insurance in full!!! from pensacola, FL by ja
Comment: Yes I do believe it is there responsibility because they have allowed health care cost to rise to a ridiculous level. On a recent hospital visit I was billed $9,000 dollars for a one hour visit but only 300 dollars of that amount was approved by my insurance company which shows how much the bills are inflated for the poor person paying cash for care. from Crestview/Fl by Roy
Comment: As one of our founding fathers would say, I can't seem to place my fimger on the part of the constitution where government has the authority to take from some and transfer it to others.
Comment: Yes I do. They do it overseas so why can't our Government do it here? They tell us what type of light bulb to burn in our homes so why is it so difficult to supply everyone in the U.S. with proper Health Coverage from Mary Esther by A.lan
Comment: THE GOV. CAN'T MANAGE ANYTHING. WHY WOULD WE WANT THEM TO MESS UP OUR HEALTH CARE. from LILLIAN AL. by ROD
Comment: POWs and political prisoners are better taken care of by the United States than their [OWN] citizens. from Pensacola, FL by Scott
Comment: The people of this country are not working as hard as they used to. They want everything handed to them for free. Every year it just gets worse and worse. It is not our governments job to support everyone. The welfare system is abused enough. We shouldn't work had to support people who don't. I can see helping those who really need it, but there has to be a precise line drawn. from Penscola by Erika
Comment: America is the land of FAILURE as well as the land of OPPORTUNITY. This should not change. Otherwise we are like everyone else, the land of mediocrity. from Mobile, AL. by kenny
Comment: No.The Government of a State may be able to better provide than the National one will, and my wife is proof. She's from England, and has a scar on her forehead from which you can trace a crack in her skull going from there to behind her left ear.A serious concussion. It would have been treated as such over here...but there, since she was able to walk around, it was not.I know some Canadians who have to wait absurdly long times for minor and even major surgeries. You talk to any of them, and they'd prefer our health care system.A socialistic health care system , run by the same people who run the DMV? Don't make me laugh. from Atmore, alabama by Matt
Comment: yes! as a american tax-payer, this should be one of the requirements of the government for the "general welfare and protection of the citizens..." . besides, the health-care industry themselves are responsible for this mess we are facing right now by making the cost out of reach except for those who can afford them. these privately owned corps are doing the exact same thing as the auto. industry trying to make citizens/clients fit into their business model with their short-term profit motives for their shar-holders and not looking at the long term harm they are causing to themselves and to its clients. will the healthcare industry be looking at a "bailout" from the government too? wouldn't that be like a governmental health care system...eventually? from p'cola fl by h
Comment: We are the considered the wealthest nation in the world. Why shouldn't we take care of the people that can't afford the health coverage. The drug companies are making fortunes and so are our medical establishments. Give the poor and, the few middle class that are left, some relief. from Navarre, Fl. by C J
Comment: Yes I do. As a young man when I was stationed in Germany, I was quite astonished to find that nobody paid for any hospitalization, or doctor's visits. I lived on the German economy, that's why I kind of learned "first hand" How the Germans did it. My nearest support base was some hundred miles away. Ever since, I am a staunch advocate for government sponsored health insurance for all of us. My motto is that if it can be done by one or more countries, then what the hell is wrong with this country doing it? Answer, those dunderheads in Washington, D.C. If their plan is to corner the market on obstanence and bull-headedness, they win the prize, hands down. Oh, I guess the insurance conglamoration in this country also has a huge part to do with it. from Mary Esther, FL. by Tom
Comment: Who determines what is "adequate" health care? from Pensacola by Narley
Comment: Absolutely not! There are far too many giveaways of tax dollars as it is. Now if they would crack down on the profiteering drug companies, hospitals & doctors so health care wasn't so expensive I could go for that. from Gulf Breeze Fl by grant
Comment: It is Governments responsibility to protect us from predatory business practices. The failure to do this in the mortgage industry has caused financial hardship to all Americans. The failure to do this in the insurance industry is doing the same. I believe we have not identified the problem correctly. Currently we are all covered by thousands of healthcare policies every day. Currently healthcare policies are plentiful but too fractured and specific. Health insurance is included in personal healthcare plans, product liability insurance, property liability insurance, workers’ comp insurance, auto liability insurance, medical malpractice insurance, and government programs such as Medicare, Medicaid, VA, or Indian health benefits. Gaps in coverage and redundant coverage cause lawsuits, which delay payments and add direct and indirect costs to consumers. Healthcare is never going to be affordable when Government, Insurance Companies, and Lawyers each take a cut of healthcare dollars before it gets to the medical facilities. When multiple Government plans are coupled to multiple insurance plans to settle a single claim, a very expensive and confusing system is created. The replacement system should be, each person has and pays for one “No Fault Personal Healthcare Policy” eliminating redundant healthcare cost and coverage in all other plans. The Government would have to make it mandatory that every person has this coverage. In certain cases government assistance might have to happen, but working with one plan, one agency, and one set of rules there should be savings. It would still be illegal to create unsafe products or work places and the current laws and penalties would still apply. If long-term injuries occurred Lawsuits for compensation would still happen. Lawyers would still have job security. from Cantonment by Mark
Comment: No matter what you call it, Universal Health Care, National Health Service, etc., most of the un-informed Americans who oppose it already have, or "think" they have coverage, so why pay more in taxes for those who do not? They label it "socialism" and say if the government runs it, it will be a mess. In the meantime, 20,000 Americans die each year because they are denied affordable healthcare. So much for America's "quality of life". Now here is a point to ponder. General Motors alone pays out over $4 BILLION dollars in healthcare benefits every year! Now consider that most, if not all of the financial institutions (banks, savings & loan, mortgage companies, investment firms, etc) also provide their employees with health benefits! Today, the government owns many of these financial firms, or has a majority interest in them. Since most of the 50 million uninsured taxpayers are paying for the "rescues and bailouts" from our already punitive taxes, and will continue to do so for the next 30 to 40 years, the rich will get their healthcare courtesy of the un-insured. If this arrangement isn't Socialism, then I don't know what is. With millions of Americans losing their jobs, be mindful that they are also losing their insurance, and many are already ill and will possibly die without the treatments they can no longer afford. Can our nation afford to turn our backs on our own citizens? If our politicians can spend trillions on saving the economy, why not start a healthcare system to insure the future health of our children and our workers? An unhealthy society is much more deserving than an unhealthy investment firm. from Crestview, FL by Ron
Comment: Absolutely not! At what point do we grow up and be responsible citizens and adults? Less government not more government! Americans should take responsibility for themselves and be accountable for decisions they make. Study hard and make something of yourself and quit expecting the US Government to support you. The Government should spend more time securing our borders. We shouldn't have to support illegal aliens either! from Pensacola, FL by Cindy
Comment: If we do that, how can we afford to put sand on our beaches to wash away every year or so? Let's keep printing more money so our economy can become like Zimbabwe's. from Milton/FL by Tom
Comment: Of course the government is responsible for making sure every American Citizen has health care. I believe it should be provided at no cost at all. If we didn't have to pay for health care, a raise in taxes would not be as painful. The purpose and reason for our government leaders is to take care of the American people. This would be a great place to start. It's time for the government to start living up to their purpose. from Pensacola, Fl by Evelyn
