Tuition Hike: Do you support the Governor's plan to raise tuition at state universities by as much as 15-percent each year?

Comment: Yes! There's no reason that Florida's public universities should be significantly lower than those in the rest of the U.S. - and I hope we charge out of state students, other than the small exceptions such as UWF has with SE Alabama, similar charges as the other major states do. I don't want Florida taxpayers to subsidize out of state students. We seem to have adopted the notion that quality education is free - it is not. Parents and students need to understand that and prepare themselves - or take out significant student loans. from Pensacola/FL by Rick
Comment: well, i guess this is another measure to further separate the rich and the poor... from p'cola by h
Comment: I think given this economy, we should tighten our belts and teachers and not raise tuition until economy is better. from Pensacola, FL by Sharon
Comment: Absolutely not! Gov. Crist's priorities, as usual, are backwards. He doesn't want to increase taxes to the wealthy or even increase "sin" taxes on items such as alcohol & cigarettes, but it's just fine & dandy with him to rob from those that can least afford it...the poor. He wants to raise tuition, making it more difficult than ever for poor students to attend college, and Florida is the only state in the union that charges court fees to the indigent. Florida should be ashamed of itself. from Pensacola/FL by Carol
Comment: NO WAY. Let's talk about cutting the Govenor's pay 15%. College is expensive enough. Soon only the well to do will be able to afford college, trapping the middle and low income in lower paying jobs. from Santa rosa by Helena
Comment: Its hard enough for young people to go to collage now and if the the prices go up how in the world can they afford more. My oldest went to University of Florida and when my youngest went the price had gon up so that he had to attend UWF which was good because he could stay home. The ones who come from away from Gainsville or Tallahassa or wherever have to pay living expenses also. Just keep going with price increases and kids will not be able to attend college. That kind of change we don't need. from Pensacola, Fla by Iris
Comment: The reason America is in the shape it is in now is because we are ignorant of the world around us and the only way to fix this is higher education. If we raise the price higher this will further limit people in obtaining knowledge to increase productivness in all aspects of life, therefore limiting us to remain like sheep. from milton, fl by Colleen
Comment: No, now is not the time to raise anything. Solutia just laid off half of it work force with rising college tuition with the cost of electricity from Gulf power when will legislatures get the picture that working people need work and education to move this country forward. The CEO's are taking from working people and steady giving it to themselves. When will this cycle end. It needs to stop so we can have a chance to live comfortably. from pensacola/Fl. by anomous
Comment: Students are unable to afford to go to college as it is because of how expensive the tuition is, and now the governor is allowing these colleges raise their tuition by 15 percent. I think that is a little much. from Pensacola, FL by Michael
