Drinking age: Do you believe the drinking age should be lowered to 18?

42.78% Yes
56.14% No

Comment: WhenI turned 18 we could drink. I would say no, but we all know that they will get it some how. All young adults do.Their need's to bigger fine's for those that sell to them and the one's that go in and buy it for them. from cantonment,fl by jerrie ann

Comment: i say yes with reservations...if being 18 is considered to be an "adult" (which by the way is varies upon individuals...i've seen some so-called 30+ year olds make decisions and act like teenagers...just looking at who is in jail right now...there are buildings full of them in there!) for legal purposes...then the drinking age should be 18! my personal opinion is that everything should be at the nice even age of 20 like they do in many other countries...20 is the age most fo these folks consider to be an adult...serve in the military, vote, drive, etc... from p'cola by h

Comment: personally id like to see the 18yr olds have a cpl more yrs of driving xperiences BEFORE adding drinking to their life adventures. from milton by rhonda

Comment: From what I see the drinking age is 18, it's just not the legal drinking age. from Pace, FL by Richard

Comment: We can go to war and fight for out country at 18 but we cant have a drink by Sarah

Comment: Drinking age should be lowered to 18 because if a person is old enough to fight for his or her country then he or she should have the privilege to drink. This would make them legal in all aspects of the law for being an adult. from Milton by Chris

Comment: I am about to turn 18 in a few days, but i still dont think i should be able to drink. Most 18 year olds are in highschool still, and what if they get caught with an empty beer can or liquor bottle in their car? There is that Zero tolerance law that dosent allow you to get away with it. Also, I am not that ready to take on the real world in full throttle, and putting yourself in that situation isnt the best way to start my life as an adult. from Pensacola, FL by Kimberly

Comment: I dont like the drinking age right now because Im in the Army, and the government seems to think that im respable enough to hold lives in my hands, and yet not mature enough to drink untill someone is 21. people age, and mature at different rates. from mobile alabama by Kristopher

Comment: I feel if you can join the Military, fight for you country and go to jail at the age of 18 than you must have the responsibility to drink at the age of 18!!! from Mobile/ AL by Brittney

Comment: No because I have a 16 year old boy, Yes because I think if you can fight for your Country you should be able to drink. from Gulf Breeze Florida by Denice

Comment: personally, i think it should be raise to 25 years of age. from pensacola by babygirl

Comment: The drinking age should be tied to the Dieing age of our Armed Forces men and women. If you are old enough to die for a cause, you are old enough to drink. from Pensacola FL by Jerry

Comment: if you can die for your country at 18, you can drink a damn beer!!!!!! from magnolia springs, al by larkin

Comment: Our young people are sent to war with guns in their hands to put their lives on the line daily but are not allowed to drink. I definitiely agree that if they are old enough to die for their country they are old enough to drink in it. from Milton, Fl. by Karen

Comment: If your old enough to be drafted and risk your life for your country; then you should be old enough to have a cold beer afterwards. from Pensacola by Common

Comment: If an eighteen year old is old enough to fight and die for his country, he should be able to order a beer anywhere. from Pensacola by Chuck

Comment: yes we should because if our 18 year olds can go to war than they should be allowed to excercise they're freedom of choice from crestview,fl by cathy

Comment: It is scientifically debated that young people are not capable of making good judgement decisions until the full frontal lobe of their brain is fully developed and this is said to be when they turn 25 or after. However, plenty of people make life changing decisions even before the age of 18. I believe that any person that is 18 years of age or older should be legally able to drink alcoholic drinks as when people become 18 they are legally adults. Also if we can send an 18 year old person to war but not allow them the right to drink we are withholding a legal right of an adult. from Milton, Fl. by Richard

Comment: Binge drinking is going to occur whether the drinking age is lowered to 18 or not; however, I believe that the drinking age should be lowered to 18 for beer and wine only, and remain 21 for liquor because we allow our young men and women to make the decision to join our military, and go to war which can cause them to make the ultimate sacrifice of losing their life for our freedom, but by law they are considered to be too young to to make the decision to buy/drink beer. from Baker by Linda

Comment: I fear all it would do is transfer the underage drinking problems from colleges to high schools. Teens who want to drink are going to drink, no matter what the legal age might be. from Crestview, FL by Doug

Comment: I do not drink alcoholic beverages myself, I do not personally condone the consumption of alcoholic beverages, but I do believe that if you can vote, have a H.S. Diploma, drive a motor vehicle, and are capable of dying for our country, you have every right to drink! from Pace, FL by Cory

Comment: A good follow-up question might be: "If you voted in favor of lowering the drinking age, are you an undereaged drinker?" from Crestview, FL by Doug

Comment: Lower the drinking age to 18 & raise the DRIVING age to 35. That way, we won't have to worry about them driving drunk! from Pensacola,FL by Mickey

Comment: NO AND HEAVENS NO HAVENT WE BURRIED ENOUGH TEENAGERS from fort walton beach by james

Comment: Underage drinking has been going on for decades and changing the law will not make a difference. It's how a person is raised by their parents that makes up a person's character. All these colleges didn't make the top party campus list and might be losing tuition money to the ones that did. from Pensacola by Karen

Comment: If you lower the age limit then you are causing more problems because the 16 & 17 YOs will be drinking and driving. from Pensacola, FL by Patricia

Comment: Why not get the best for the supporters of lowering the drinking age and the MADD. I suggest swaping the drinking and driving ages; making the driving age 21 and the drinking age 18. As a student at FSU, i can say that i have been exposed to the binge drinking in the college atmosphere, but this kind of behavior started before college. If you take the cars away from the 16 year old drinker (which exist), you are eliminating the accidents at least until the new driving age. Just a thought... from Tallahassee, FL by Jennifer

Comment: I definitely think that the age of drinking should be lowered to 18. If you can die for your country, you should be allowed to drink at 18. There is no drinking age in most European countries; children are brought up to drink responsibly and do not associate drinking with celebrations because they drink alcohol at lunch, dinner and everyday events. This is one of the reasons, you find less problems with binge drinking. It is an everyday and normal thing to do. There is no reason to get stupid on holidays etc. from Pensacola, Florida by Michele

Comment: People of all ages abuse alcohol. Three years ago, my 16 year old daughter, was severely injured by a drunk driver. His blood alcohol level .295, over 3 times the legal limit. This 62 year old man drank too much and he was old enough to purchase it. Maturity doesn't always come with "adulthood". from Molino, FL by Belinda

Comment: They are not responsible at the age of 21. what make you think they can handle drinking at the age 18. They should up the age to 25. from Pensacola, FL by Yvonne

Comment: I believe that the teens and children do what they do because it is illegal and they get more of a kick out of it. Because they are doing something they are no suppose to, I guess it's to get a rush. Once you have the privlage to do so, you do not really enjoy doing it. from Pace by Charles

Comment: Teenagers have enough day to day problems to deal with without all the problems alcohol abuse can bring. from Pace. Fl. by Larry

Comment: Im 20 Years old and I think is should to an exstent cause of the fact that kids are gonna do it anyway and that would keep 18 to 20 year olds from get alcohol illegally. but at the same time it should stay the same cause most 18 - 20 years old dont have the menatality and responibility to handle alcohol at 21 year olds and even then most dont know how to treat it right. But yes i think it should. with all that said im 20 years old and in 5 months i will be able to buy it legalily that doesnt mean i havnt drank some hear and there but it was illegally and i broke the law. so ya. from Pace by Smyrf

Comment: Absolutely not. How many kids are drinking underage already. If it was made legal, how many more would do it just because they can? from Cantonment, Fl by Rod

Comment: I grew up in NY when it was an 18 year old state. There was no big pressure to drink because it didn't prove anything. Some of us did, some of us didn't but for those who did most of us would have one or two drinks after a dance and that was it. I cannot remember any of my friends being arrested for being drunk, having accidents driving while drunk or any other mishaps. I do remember under 21 people from outside NY commenting at my wedding how little the NYers were drinking. Besides- the logic of allowing 18 year olds to vote, get married and raise children, serve in the military but not drink defies me. from Milton, Fl. by Emmie Lou

Comment: If you are old enough to go to war you should be able to drink. from Navarre, FL by C J

Comment: There will be even more intoxicated people driving on the road to cause accidents. 18 year olds are also more likely to sell alcohol to preteens from penscola, Fl by robert

Comment: absolutley not i mean seriously you have enough 18 year olds on the road and in this world that already cause enough damage so if you put alchol in there system then you are just asking for more accidents or deaths in this world.. from pensacola by sharon

Comment: There will be even more intoxicated people driving on the road to cause accidents. 18 year olds are also more likely to sell alcohol to preteens from penscola, Fl by robert

Comment: young people are going to do it anyway.if 18 year olds are old enough to vote and go to war. they should be able to make that choice as well. from gulfbreeze fl by brian

Comment: i think it would be a major mistake to lower the drinking age i mean this world is messed up with the way that kids act already so the last thing that we need is for an 18 year old to be able to possess alchol legally so no.. from pensacola by jennie

Comment: I think it should be lowered because the smoking age is 18 and whats the difference, there both bad. They also let you vote at 18.So why not drink.. ? from indianapolis/in by leanne

Comment: NO! That's a disaster waiting to happen. I'm only 18 and I feel that at this age, no one should be drinking. Maturity is key, and I personality don't want irresposible teenagers out of the road drinking, because you know that is exactly what will happen. from Milton/Florida by Jessica

Comment: It was lowered in 1976 for the same reasons (I was 18 at the time)and it exposed 15 and 16 year olds to binge drinking, it solved nothing, alcohol related accidents increased. Do the hard work of fighting this problem. The younger a person starts drinking, the greater chance they will abuse. The states ultimately raised it back to 21. That was before the computer age, so I guess the professors had no way to google that info. from pensacola by jill

Comment: i think that lowerin the drinkin age would be better.. there are so many under aged drinkers right now.. n i think it would keep people from gettin in so much trouble.. and in college the ages range from 18 to older.. people are always gonna party. n it would keep alotta people outta trouble if they lowered it... from indianapolis, IN by amber

Comment: Why make it legal at 18? There are enough drunken drivers out there as it is. THat's entirely too young from Cantonment, FL by Pauline

Comment: I think 18yr olds should be able to drink..It makes since because we are aloud to get credit card, bank accounts, inlist in the military and be shiped over sea's,buy cigarettes..and in my opinion those are worse then alcohol they cause cancer..I mean yes alcohol has it downs but everything does.18 yr olds may be wild and not responsible but that's not all 18 year olds just some..some of us do have responsiblities..and some of us like to have a drink every now and then.I think it should be at least thought about seriously not just thrown out the window. from FARIBAULT,MINNESOTA by ANGEL

Comment: If kids can go to war and defend our country at age 18, then they should be allowed to drink at 18. They are going to do it anyway, law or not. from Navarre, Fl. by Denise

Comment: If kids can go to war and defend our country at age 18, then they should be allowed to drink at 18. They are going to do it anyway, law or not. from Navarre, Fl. by Denise

Comment: i think we should be aloud to drink from owosso,MI by rebbeca

Comment: It's not like teens are going to stop drinking even if it is 21, so just make it easier & save all the police from dealing with it. from Pace Florida. by Bri

Comment: I say yes because most of 18 yr olds are already drinking...To be honest if nobody wants us to drink then totally take beer and and any kind of beverage off the shelfs close down bars...But until then I think 18 yr olds should be able to drink. from Houston Texas by Heather

Comment: By lowering the drinking age to 18, that will enable these new drinkers to purchase alcoholic beverages for their younger-and underage-friends. ...rb from P'cola,Fl. by Ron

Comment: Lowering the drinking age will not stop Bing drinking. from Pace, Fl 32571 by Ferren

Comment: No - Kids are drinking underage already. It's not the law that's broken. Weather or not the age limit is decreased, kids are still going to find ways to drink and eventually wreak havoc on their own or someone elses life. If we would enforce the law as it stands and find ways to stop these kids from getting their hands on the alcohol to begin with, that would be the answer. It's not an easy fix but it's an option. We could start by cracking down on places that serve and sell the alcohol from contributing to a minor. from Milton / FL by Willy

Comment: if you can buy ciggarettes at age 18, then you should be allowed to buy alcohol as well. the law says you're an adult at 18 and adults should be able to drink. from pace, FL by laura

Comment: Absolutely NOT!! The more freedom you give young people the DUI rates will increase as well as death's. How is it going to Help? It is putting the stamp of approval on reckless behaviour. from Pensacola, Fl by Jody

Comment: Why have smoking and voting legal at 18 and not drinking? from Mexico, IN by Alyson

Comment: Of course! For military personel ONLY. If you can die for your countrym you nshould damn sure be able to TOAST your country! The heck with college students. They should be studying, not drinking the night away. But our military? How fair is it to say "Go die for me, but you can't have a beer after a hard days work!" Get something right for once, USA! from Pensacola, Fl by Cindy

Comment: If you can die for your country, get married, get sentenced to life for a crime, vote for a leader, apply for a passport, have to get your own health insurance unless you go to college, be held liable for a financial loan, buy tobacco, why should you have to be 21 to drink from Niceville by Mary

Comment: I can't believe what I just read. There are so many underage kids drinking alcohol now....that's just what we need...more drunk kids behind a steering wheel. Hopefully this law will NEVER pass. Tell them to ask MADD for their opinion.... from Pensacola by Christy

Comment: Absolutly NO! The kids coming of age at this time are so much more immature than those of the 50's & 60's. How many studies have to be done before the supporters of this awful idea get the message. Young people don't know how to recognize their limits & most will get the superman sindrome only to get in a car & drive, leaving all of us as potential victims. from Milton,FL by Cheri

Comment: drinking on campus should be outlawed in the first place, 18 year old are to young to handle the effects of drinking, where are the police? are they unable to keep up with 18 year olds? is it easyer to let them drink rather than enforce a drink free schools, we might as well let them smoke a little pot too! they say it wont hurt no body either, always remmeber one thing leads to another, this is a very bad Ideah and its hard for me to even think that someone would even concider this. If they want to drink after they graduate out of school @ 21 yrs old at least they would have grown in wisdom and more able to meet life head on instead of a car head on, very bad Ideah bad bad bad from milton by dana

Comment: drinking problems on a campus should not reflect weither a law should be passed to fuel a problem of drinking on a campus, they play drinking games like who can drink a quart of vodka in one minute? doesn't sould like a law should be changed it sounds like someone conduct should change, lowering the age to drink will send thousands of people/youth to an early grave, yes 18 yr olds have voteing rights and can serve in the armed forces, but you cannot be drunk to do either. drinking binges in no way should be allowed, police cant find these students, if I can and they cant we have a big problem, this is a really stupid Ideah and should be trashed without any more thought from milton,fl by dana

Comment: If these "children" can go to Iraq, why cant they buy a beer? from Pensaola, Fl by Carol

Comment: No Way. People should know that drinking is bad. DON'T MAKE IT WORSE! from Pensacola by Caleb

Comment: growing up i knew so many kids that died because they were illegally drinking and cops showed up... why is it that at 18 kids are allowed to serve our country and die but they are not allowed to drink a beer? i cannot understand the logic in the governments reasoning! just give up on trying to control alcohol and work harder on controlling drugs! from milton/fl by Deloria

Comment: Yes, If one can make a decision to serve in the military and give his/her life at age 18 because he/she is and "ADULT" then they should also be allowed to have a drink if they choose to. It's double standards to say you are an adult and can die for your country, but you can't buy alcohol. from Milton/FL by A

Comment: There are too many people who are not responsible for their actions now who are way over 21, what do you thnk will happen it the age is dropped to 18. Get real people!! from Pensacola, FL by Flo

Comment: Albeit, eighteen is old enough to fight for this country; it is completely evident (to me at least) there are more eighteen year olds that are not yet mature enough to handle the intake of alcohol. How do I know this: I was one of those old enough to get in the service, back when the uniform drinking age was twenty-one. I survived, and yes, I bent the rules---like anyone else my age. But, in hindsight, I still say I think that 18 is too young to be drinking. Maybe if we would take away the bottle and replace it with a keg, it would be a different story; but we don't. from Mary Esther, Fl. by Tom

Comment: If someone is able to join the military and go to war at age 18, they should be legal to have a beer or whatever they choose. from Gulf Breeze, Florida by Lisa

Comment: At present, young people under 21 get alcohol from their over 21 friends. If 18 year olds could buy alcohol, their younger friends would get the to buy it, so even younger teens would have more access. from Baker FL by Betty

Comment: THE ANSWER TO THIS QUESTION IS VERY SIMPLE.NOT NO BUT HELL NO.THESE YOUNG ADULTS NOW HAVE NO SENSE OF RESPONSIBILITY OF THE BAD DECISIONS THEY MAKE.I HAVE TWO DAUGHTERS THAT ARE 18 AND 20 AND CAN DEFINETLY TELL YOU MOST YOUNGS ADULTS THERE AGE DON'T CARE AND DON'T THINK ABOUT WHAT CAN HAPPEN WHEN DRINKING AND DRIVING.I HAVE SEEN AND HEARD OF TO MANY TEENS LOSING THERE LIFE BECAUSE OF ALCOHOL.THANK YOU FOR LISTENING. from fwb,fl by karen

Comment: I strongly disagree that lowering the drinking age would help. The problem age for drinking is from 12 to 18. The people will drink no matter what, they will do so whether it's legal or illegal. Parents are the best solution to the problems. Parents should help educate their young kids about the danger of drinking alcohol. The Universities Presidents should change the culture of their college campuses. Students who are drinking in colleges started drinking in High Schools or from their parents as young as 12 years old. Drinking responsibly is also the key to solve these problems. Another way to help our young people to adjust their drinking habit is to increase jailtimes, fines, and impose harsher punishment if a DUI person killed or injured another person. from Pensacola, FL by Christian

Comment: I feel that if 18 is old enough to go to war then you sahould be old enough to drink. from Pensacola, FL by Christina

Comment: They tried that back in 1975 it did not work then and it won't work now!!! We have enough teenage deaths as it is. from Gulf Breeze, FL by Mary

Comment: I think people who want to lower the drinking age are crazy. There are far too many alcohol related deaths amongst teens as it is. Are we trying to raise that number? If anything, the legal drinking age should be raised. I think you should have to be a competent adult in order to be allowed to drink. 21 year olds are still babies themselves, and that's coming from a 27 year olds mouth. from Crestview, FL

Comment: That would be a stupid ideal, when someone is 18 they can barely decided what they need to do rather than getting to drink too!wow!NO

Comment: that's is a completely idiotic idea. I think if you serve in the military you should be allowed to drink but the age to join the military should be raised to 21. from pensacola/ florida by athena

Comment: I think they should change the legal drinking age.Because if you can fight for your country and maybe even give your life for it,then you should be able to drink. from Pensacola/Fl by Edward

Comment: If we lower the drinking age to 18, this would also allow all under 21 to drink. Respect and moral standards are at an all time low compared to when I was growing up. Therefore responsible adults are far and in between. Look around and you'll see that moderate dress code and public behavior has gone to the dogs. Thus, most adults act more like juvenile with disregard to others. If we lower the drinking age, our society will be adding fuel to the fire of society decline. from DeFuniak Springs, FL by Cesare

Comment: 18 year olds are old enough to vote and to die for their country. They are oldenough to dring. from pensacola by jeffrey c.

Comment: Sure, go ahead and change the age to 18 so we will have even MORE dead kids dieing in car crashes than before. That would be the dumbest move you could make and shouldn't even have to ask the question. Just look at the statistics!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! from Pensacola, Fl. by Beverly

Comment: The age to fight in the war is totally different than drinking and driving. Kids can't be responsible enough to just drink at home and not drive, they want to get out on the road and kill people and themselves. All kids want to do is get drunk and they don't know what will happen after they get drunk. from Pensacola, Fl. by Beverly

Comment: You are considered an adult in Florida when you reach age 18. You can vote, get married, own property, pay taxes, join the military so you should be able to drink. from Pensacola/Florida by James

Comment: I think that if you are old enough to go off to war for this country and die for this country then you should be allowed to drink. I'm a 37 year old mother of a 13 year old and i really don't like the idea of him drinking at 18 but if he is considered and adult at that age then I think he should be allowed to drink at that age. from Milton, Florida by Lisa

Comment: There should be NO drinking age limit. However, if there is to be one, it should be the same as the age to: a) Vote b) Serve in the Armed Sevices I cannot understand the morality of sending our young men and women to risk life and limb for our country and then out of the other side of our mouths, tell them that they can't drink a beer during their "down time". It's immoral and hypocritical at the very least. from Cantonment, Fl by Donald

Comment: Although 18 is to young, most are still in high school. How about 19 for beer and 21 for liqour and wine. from Gulf Breeze by Troy

Comment: The drinking age WAS 18 in Tennessee when I was young and therefore, people started drinking at 16. The reasoning part of the brain is not fully developed until age 21. Start drinking before then and you run the risk of losing the ability to fully reason. from Mobile, AL by Jane

Comment: I believe that the Colleges wish to lower the drinking age so that they can make more revenue from selling liquor on campus without having to check IDs constantly, therefore taking the responsibility off them and placing it on the high schools instead. And I'm an 18 year old just starting college and that's my three cents. from Crestview Fl by Jared

Comment: most adults arent even responsible enough to drive why would it be any different for people under 21 from milton by matt

Comment: yes it should. young adults at the age of 18 can vote, defend this country and can even go into bars without being able to drink. but guess what they are drinking anyway, so let them have the enjoyment of drinking at 18 years of age. from pensacola, florida by dee

Comment: Perhaps Govenor Herman Talmadge of GA said it best: Old enough to vote; old enough to fight and die; old enough to drink! from Navarre, FL by Scott

Comment: No it should not be lowered, it will only put more drunk drivers on the highways, and encourage younger people to drink. To lower it sets the wrong example to our youth, and gives them our approval. from Milton, FL by Phillip

Comment: If we have college presidents in favor of this, there is no wonder our country is going to hell in a handbasket!!! from Pensacola by Lester

Comment: i dont think drinking age should be drop for all,,,if it is dropped it should be for military personel,,i am diabeld vey ,,,desert storm,,,my time in the service i seen yung people lose there lifes and was not alowed to drink,,,so if it dropped it should be military personel only,,,they live and die for our freedom to do so,,so them truley desirve it from milton fla by james

Comment: Thinking back to when I was 18 or even 21,I was still thinking I was invincible.Boy was I wrong. How about raising the drinking age to 25 or 30? from Ft Walton Beach,Fl by James

Comment: How low should we go. It's been 21 for decades and the issues have always been the same. No, making the age lower will not stop the problems. Personal responsibility--instilled by parents--will always be the only decisive factor. from Pensacola, FL by James

Comment: If you are in the military, yes, you are willing to die for your country and the military keeps you straight. College? please. study and to on! from Laurel Hill, Florida by Terry

Comment: When I was 18 it was legal to drink. Once I realized that it wasn't as "cool" as I thought it was,it just wasn't very important to me. There are always going to be irresponsible drinkers out there whether 21 or not. I believe most young people if taught to drink responsibly will do just that. If at 18 they are old enough to go to war and live independently then they should be afforded the right to drink. from pensacola fl by m

Comment: Back when I was in high school during the vietnam war, we did the same thing. The drinking age was 21 and we lowered it to 18. The basis was sound then, and is sound now. If someone is old enough to decide that they want to risk their own life for America, defending our freedom, then they deserve the right to order and drink a cold one in public. Questioning their judgement in drinking would mean we would have to question their good judgement calls in voting or deciding to defend our county. Besides, they are going to drink regardless. Let them drink. Tighten the drunk driving penalties for 18-20 year olds as a control. from Pensacola by D

Comment: It was lowered in the late 70's and was abused that a few years later it was returned to age 21 Study the history from previous experience, should we repeat what we know will not work. My but people certainly forget. from Ft Walton Bch, Fl by Edward

Comment: Lowering the drinking age will not decrease underage drinking or binging, but keeping the age at 21 has decreased the number of fatal car crashes by J

Comment: i dont think that they should lower the drinking age because it puts high schooler that are 18 in high schools to drink in school. Plus, it makes the kids that are in high schools go out and buy the alcohol for the underclass men. If they lower the drinking age it sould be 19 or 20 because its the age of most of the incoming freshman for college. Teens have a higher crash rate than any other people that drive cars. lowering the drinking age will put that rate higher than it already is and then you have more drunks on the road than usual. from crestview, fl by taylor

Comment: Twenty one year olds cannot hold their liquor so why expect as much from an eighteen year old. from Fort Walton Beach, FL by Patricia

Comment: definately not. the youth of this day are already reckless enough and this would be a major mistake. i also agree with some other states that don't allow teens to get a permit to drive till they are 16 and have to keep it till they are 18 and then get their driver's license. our driving laws for our young people are to lax.We lose to many of our children to unexperienced drivers. from pensacola, fl. by kim

Comment: Absolutely not. Kids that drink underaged do so for various reasons, but they value and need rules. I started college at seventeen, and had no problem geting alcohol at that time; perhaps the "wise" presidents should lower the age to seventeen, as I was not the only freshman of that age. This seems to be a political attempt by the college heads to fix the underage drinking problem on their campuses through legislation. Taking care of it in this way may be good for job security, but I've never seen a study that indicates that it works. Bad, bad idea. from pensacola by john

Comment: If a person is old enough to vote and go to war and die for their country, they sure should be able to drink a beer. from Pace FL by Daniel

Comment: If 18 yr old are responsible enough to vote for our President or serve our country in the military, I'm sure they can be trusted to drink responsively. It isn't only young people who drink and drive. from GB, FL by L

Comment: Pier pressure should not make you want to lower the legal drinking age. I believe it could cause more drop outs due to unplanned events that are caused by drinking. We also do not need more drinking and driving incidents. This can be especially dangerous amongst more inexperienced drivers! Be a considerate and responsible citizen no matter the age! from Milton, FL by Kim

Comment: Children at the age of 18 are not mature enough to take this responsibility. We already have to many DUI, lower the age to 18 and this rate will sky rocket. College students will still drink but if taught at home they know what could happen if they get caught. from Crestview, FL by Anita

Comment: I'll go a step further, and say that drinking should be illegal all together! Drinking causes immeasurable problems in this country. from Pensacola by Britt

Comment: No matter what the age, they will abuse it to show off to their piers. Legallity does not matter to them now or the circumstances of what will happen in binge drinking. Comment: A person can join the military, defend our country, vote in elections, but can't buy a beer ... that's ridiculous! Lower the drinking age to 18 or raise the age to join the military and vote to 21. We shouldn't have it both ways. from Pensacola, fl by Michelle

Comment: Are you crazy, lowering the age to 18 will only increase the fatalities and DUI. Kids at the age of 18 don't have enough experience on the road as it is, but add alcohol and you have disaster from Pace, FL by Shannan

Comment: If 18 is old enough to vote and old enough to go to war, it should be old enough to have a drink. Either you're an adult or you're not. Drunk driving is a separate issue. There are other factors besides the legal drinking age that go into the reduction in alcohol related accidents. To bad we can't mandate a law on that, would stop a lot of older people from drinking and driving. from Pensacola, Florida by John

Comment: College presidents need a course in LOGIC. What person can honestly believe that lowering the age will make the student "more mature and responsible"?
