Do you support drilling for more oil off United States' coastlines and within the U.S.?

39.32% Yes
58.25% No

Comment: drill here... drill now.. pay less from niceville florida by steve

Comment: I do not feel that drilling for more oil will ease any situation. Our Country is supposed to be the most advanced in the world. Why are we not spending more money on mass transit and other means of travel? That in itself will stop our dependancy of oil from other Countries. from Pensacola, Fl by Heath

Comment: Drilling needs to be one of many solutions to the problem not the only one nor the first one! by jeff

Comment: Modern technology allows drilling in ways that all but eliminate the previous risks. from Suwanee, GA by Allan

Comment: We should not be drilling off our coast for oil. Instead we should invest the money in finding alternate energy sources! from Gulf Breeze, Fl by Kim

Comment: While alternative fuels are well under way to being developed, Offshore drilling will give us a break during the interim. Also, there are some industries that will continue to be dependant on oil regardless of alternative fuels. It will be better if we can provide those industries with the oil ourselves rather than importing it. from Pensacola by Stephen

Comment: Drill Here!! Drill Now!! Pay Less!! from Cantonment/FL by Robert

Comment: It won't make a big difference in prices, it will take years to get to market, we should use their oil before we use up ours, and conservation and alternative energy will have a bigger, more immediate impact. from Gulf Breeze, FL by Enid

Comment: Being a more independent nation should be our primary goal. Our dependence in foreign oil is too high and is still increasing. I believe that we should do more drilling for oil in Alaska. Yes, some of the local wild life will be affected, but they can deal with it. Whats more important: getting a chance to have lower oil/gas prices or causing a few bears and moose to relocate to alternate feeding grounds? from Baker, FL by Daniel

Comment: thay can drill in my back yard if thay can get oil out of it. from mary esther fl by stephanie

Comment: Yes, absolutely we should be drilling and we should begin immediately and announce it to the rest of the world. Especially the Middle East. If we just proceed with some kind of national action such as drilling, then we will let the rest of the oil rich nations which continue to take advantage of us that we are not going to sit still an take it any longer. Just the announcement along will serve to put a wrench into the speculation world and would immediately begin to reduce the price at the pump. What we need to do is quit talking about it get busy taking some visable actions such as drilling. The country of IRAQ owes us a little bit of help as well from Cantonment, Florida by Lynn

Comment: Since alternative fuel seems to be down the road a ways, this seems a simple decision to me. We are buying fuel from people who hate us. The less bought from them, the better. from Milton/Florida by Veatrice

Comment: I support drilling anywhere/everywhere, and the building of as many nuclear power plants as possible in every State in America. Cuba and China are already stealing our oil resources off the Florida coast right now invading our Sovereinty. What difference does our evironment make when I spend $160 a week to drive my car. We should also ban Walmart from all future trade with China. That's why our dollar is so devalued. Also ban the $0.15 Federal gas tax forever. Now that's "real change" we can live with Obama. from Pensacola by James

Comment: I also support drilling in ANWR or anywhere else we have proven reserves. Drilling at home is the best way to become less dependent on foreign oil and give us time to develop alternate sources of energy. from Pensacola, FL by Clarence

Comment: Its a no brainer! Unless we become more self reliant on ourown untaped resourses we are the only ones to blame! from Pace by Joe

Comment: California and Florida don't mind burning the gas, but don't drill off our shores. The oil is there it's ours ,go get it. There are oil deposits off the Keys and U.S. companies cannot drill there but other nations can and do. from Gulf Shores, Al. by Larry

Comment: Conservation is the key. from Cantonment, FL by Laura

Comment: We've got to find alternative/renewable sorces of energy and quit feeding the greedy fossel fuel energy companies from Pensacola, FL by Karl

Comment: we need something to help with the gas problems from crestview fl by lillian

Comment: As long as its done in a pertective way to respect the enviroment, and it doesn't line the long long pockets of the goverment. from Pensacola by Catherine

Comment: Other countries are already exploring for oil off the coast of Florida in the Keys. Though drilling is not the only answer. Refineries have to be built. We shouldn't expect immediate relief, we should have a five year plan. Suspend all pork spending on bridges to nowhere and really work on this thing and we could be "Energy Indepedent". from Milton by Jim

Comment: I do think it is in our best interest to become self reliant on our own oil and not with another country that could turn around and turn off all ways and means of obtaining oil in the future. from Pensacola, Fl by Linda

Comment: Yes, of course. We have got to make energy independence and energy efficiency the 2nd most important public and private sector program (after public safety and national security). We have to exploit known oil/gas, build nuclear, use coal as necessary, and exploit sun, wind, and nanotechnologies. If we do not, we are Rome. from Pensacola, FL by Rick

Comment: I would support drilling IF the powers that be would actually let us, in our own country, reap the benefits instead of selling it off to China and other countries and then turning around and buying it back from other sources that cost the U.S. citizens more money. It's time for us to help us. from Pensacola,Fl. by Tim

Comment: drill for oil from pensacola\fla by roland

Comment: I support drilling in Pensacola or East bay if oil is found there. from Pensacoal FL by Joe

Comment: BY ALL MEANS@!!! from PENSACOLA, FL by FRED

Comment: Yes, I am in favor of anything that will increase our odds at self-sufficiency. For the love of God, I can now see I have lived long enough to see history repeat itself. What happened to this nation in the 1930s is just around the corner, and the prevalent attitude is STILL: it won't happen to us, it will happen to the other guy. Well wake up folks (we are the other guy). from Mary Esther, FL. by Tom

Comment: I do not beleive drilling is the answer to our problems, Ithink less consumption is the answer,I think drilling is safe and will help our econimy.I had much rather have oil rigs in the gulf than condos saturating our coast line. I think the condos are a much bigger enviromental concern. from pensacola by Billy

Comment: I really don't see a down side of drilling off the US coastlines. from pensacola/ florida by Athena

Comment: You cannot see those rigs from the shore. Do it now. from Navarre/FL by Gene

Comment: If we were to drill within the U.S. we would not have to depend on another country to provide it for us. As of right now the cost of fuel is so high it is hard even the working people to live now just think of the people who live monthly on their Social Security or even the single parents! We need the oil now and if we do not start where we know the oil is then we will not have it for the near future. Every other country is growing just as we are and being that they do not have extra to give now also means they will not have it later. We have to help ourselves and just because we help another country does not mean that they are going to help us. Do you seriously think that another country is going to go without or cause their price to go up just to help us when we are not helping ourselves? I don't think so! Drill the oil and help out our people by giving them a few more jobs and to lower our cost back down and stop people from a loss of everthing! With this we will be able to solve more than one problem!Think about your family and wonder if you are next to be out of your home because of upward climb in prices. It is not going to hurt the enviroment anymore than we already have. from Pace Fl by Denise

Comment: We must become independent with energy. We can do this and maintain our beautiful beaches. We are enviornmentally focused. Much more than China, Cuba, and Mexico, three countries that are currently drill 50 mile off the coast of key West! Drill now Drill here! from Cantonment FL by Bruce

Comment: We absolutly need to use all of the resources possible in this county as we bridge to our future. Additionally, we should not depend or force the OIL companies to produce alternatives - That is a business decision. We should however expect a national energy policy from our GOVERNMENT! from Pensacola Florida by Robert

Comment: Even the thought that we will survive the current shortage will spur once again the use of bigger, less efficient vehicles and no conservation. from Pensacola FL by Melvin

Comment: It is understandable that the current global situation regarding oil brings on fear that we need to drill for oil off our coast. This must not be our solution. If we are to survive a post-petroleum world we will need to start putting all of our energies into figuring out ways off of the addiction to oil. The solution does not lie in aquiring more of the suctance we are addicted to. from Pensacola, FL by Josef

Comment: This is a hard call...oil is needed, but if we don't do the responsible thing and bite the bullet now, our kids will be desperate. We need to come up with new and different solutions for our energy...in Florida, Solar power makes sense. from Pensacola, FL by Marti

Comment: Put up Wind Turbines instead. from Pensacola by Ayla

Comment: Let's use off shore drilling as a last resort for future generations. Drilling now is short-sighted when there are plenty of conservation measures that need to be in place before drilling is a viable option. Think about our children and grandchildren from Jupiter, Florida by Angela

Comment: I support it because it will make our gas prices cheaper and it will create more jobs for our people. from Milton/FL by Pam

Comment: Not only drill, but increase refining capacity. Convert county and municipal vehicles to natural gas from pensacola,fl by henry

Comment: Yes lets drill off the coast BUT lets cap the profits the companies drilling can make. I'm disapointed in the people who are price gouging from the top down. from Pensacola, Fl. by Bud

Comment: Save the USA. Drilling will help save jobs, poor families lives and stop foreign wars. from Pensacola, Florida by Chester

Comment: I support drilling. Also what about the estimated 10 billion tons of oil in an underwater ridge north of Greenland? by marsha

Comment: I support offshore drilling 100 percent,us not having our own resorces makes us a nation of beggars.green is not an instant answer to our problems,it will take many years to implement clean energy from pace by alan

Comment: if it makes gas go down. yes from pensacola / florida by ernie

Comment: i feel that the price of rising gas is making people have less and less money to spend and do things they cant afford to do when gas prices where $1.50 all the way up to 2.00 a gallon from shalimar florida by brian

Comment: DRILL NOW! ! ! Why be controlled by people who hate us? What "detriment of our environment"? from Mary Esther, FL by Ben

Comment: I think drilling for oil off of the U.S. coastlines just prolongs us from exploring more sustainable sources of fuel and energy. It also allows automakers to continue making cars that use fossil fuels instead of renewable energy. from Tallahassee, FL by Jennifer

Comment: Less dependence on fossil fuels and more support for development of alternative energy forms such as hydrogen, solar and wind powered electricity sources and automobile fuels. from Pensacola, Fl by Amy

Comment: drill here drill now so are we just going green on one side of the planet or what. if they can drill over-seas and its all good then we should too. and find an alterative at the same time. from pensacola fl. by luke

Comment: Formerly lived in Gulf Breeze Florida. Drilling off Florida's coast will cost much more than can be produced in the end. from Santa Fe, NM by Barbara

Comment: The benefit from offshore drilling is small in terms of actual quantity of oil and effect on current oil prices. The potential environmental downside, however, is large. Oils spills originating in pipelines connecting to offshore rigs leak on a regular basis. We've been fortunate not to have a large outright spill recently in the Gulf of Mexico, but oil has been leaked regularly over the past several decades. from Pensacola/FL by Karen

Comment: Drilling is harmfull to the environment. As we drill, we slowly kill ourselves and the animals. I think we should stop drilling and start putting more money into researching other resources that are better for the environment. from Pensacola by Miranda

Comment: We need to drill the gulf coast and we need to drill Alaska from Crestview,Florida by Gerald

Comment: Why take the chance of polluting our beautiful Gulf. Why not untap the wells in Jay? Why not untap a lot of our own wells in our country? from Pace, FL by James

Comment: The amount of oil present is not worth the trouble. from pensacola by Joe

Comment: i hate oil companies from alabama, mobile by rick

Comment: Drilling for more oil is not the answer to our "addiction to oil" as President Bush called it in his 2007 State of The Union. Charlie Crist needs to work on services in this pround state and quit pandering to special interests! from Pensacola/Florida by Casey

Comment: are you kidding? seriously, you're kidding right?! from pensacola by john

Comment: We are well past due to graduate to using different forms of energy. We also need to look more closely at supporting local businesses and shifting to a more community oriented structure. from Pensacola, FL by Elizabeth

Comment: No oil here! from pensacola by bill

Comment: I am strongly in favor of drilling on US soil but not in the gulf. Our economy would be boosted faster if some citizens could benefit from the profits the oil co. will be receiving. from gulf breeze, fl by m

Comment: I've read what idiots have been writing. 1) there isn't much oil off the Fl. coast and 2)oil rigs can and do cause a threat to the local habitat. DO YOUR HOMEWORK PEOPLE. EVERYONE HAS AN OPINION BUT MOST HAVE NO FACTUAL BASIS. from pensacola by george

Comment: It's not going to reduce the price of oil. Mannn, there's a bunch of idiots out there! from pensacola by henry

Comment: I am unable to afford gas now, I think it is imperative that we find other resources before we all go bankrupt. I was against it previously but since I have to take groceries away from my children to pay for gas, I am all for it now! from pensacola, fl by mary ann

Comment: Our beaches are one, if the THE, major source(s)of income via tourism for our area. The effect of tar on the beach, damage to sealife such as dolphins, would greatly deter visitors to our area. from Gulf Breeze, FL by Susie

Comment: Wake up and smell the oil! Informed persons know that additional drilling is not the solution. In fact, it would contribute to the existing energy problems. We must be forward thinking and create alternative sources that don't destroy the earth in the process. from pensacola fl by vi

Comment: No No No absolutely No. It won't make a bit of difference!!! Just ask Louisianna and Texas, and their polluted Gulf of Mexico. from Pensacola by Trish

Comment: i have heard that the oil out of the gulf is sold to china.. so why would we want to drill for more oil for china??? from gulf breeze, florida by linda

Comment: When the Mid East no longer has us wrapped around their little finger for oil production, it will be time for celebration.... from Elberta, AL by Theresa

Comment: I don't want our beautiful beaches to be ruined, filthy and gross like TX beaches. Let's promote CONSERVATION and wind and solar energy!! from Pensacola, FL by Donna

Comment: It is insane to support any effort to continue dependence on oil for any reason. More oil drilling WILL NOT alleviate the current gas price problem now or in the future. It is like putting a bandaid on an arterial bleed! The world must change and put ALL efforts into developing other solutions and NOT continue to use oil for fuel, plastics, and any of the myriad of other petroleum based products that we use every day to the detriment of ourselves and our world. from Pensacola, FL by Beth

Comment: What is needed is research and funds for alternative energy, not more oil. from Pensacola by Bonnie

Comment: WE need to conserve our coastline.one major accident and all could go to waste!!@! from Pensacola,fl by Ric

Comment: Yes I support drilling. What is wrong with Congress? Oil prices are ruining our nation and Congress is doing nothing. I seems that every time anything happens, Congress is quick to blame President Bush. Its not him that makes the laws. President Bush stands firm in his beliefs and I admire him for that. Since the gas lines in the 1970's, Congress has sat on their butts and done nothing. I remember the long gas lines of the 1970's and Congress has had over thirty years to drill for oil to protect our country. Congress will not let anyone drill for oil. Congress is letting speculators run up the price of oil and then Congress has the nerve to try and find some reason to blame President Bush for it. It is Congress! Congress sits there letting the people starve, lose their homes, and can’t even buy gas to go to work. Today I heard Harry Reed say that he was against drilling for oil, because oil and coal was killing him. NO! He’s killing the people of the United States. Harry Reed and Nancy Pelosi are so far out of touch with this world my skin crawl’s every time I hear either one of them speak. How in the world did people like this get elected to any office? Harry Reed and Nancy Pelosi are so tied up with Al Gore’s global warming that they are sitting on their butts ruining our country. They are full of hot air. If Congressmen don’t pull together and stop all this non-sense, we are all deep trouble. Already are. by Betty

Comment: Lets get less dependent on foreign countries. from Fort Walton Beach Fl by David

Comment: Drill!! Enough of this whining! We must solve the energy problem. This will help. We worry about the environment as we can, but we cannot put ourselves and our country at risk now, when these people we are dependent on are hell bent on destroying us. from Pensacola by John

Comment: I only support due to the horrible dependency on foreign countries! It is rediculous! We were on top of the world once due to the independance from all outside sources, and now we're trying to fight, yet be friendly with outside oil sources. The US is becoming a growing contradiction! Sometimes I want to move out of here, but learning a new language so I can live peacfully seems a bit much! We should be more self suffient and develop new sources for energy so we don't even have to think about foreign oils or assistance! from Pensacola, FL by Amanda

Comment: If we are ever to get away from our addiction to oil and environmental harm, before we kill off not only our race but much life on this planet, we had best STOP focussing on finding more OIL and instead focus on alternatives. If we want to boost the economy, we need to put people to work building green industry power plants, and open more green businesses, with tax breaks and credits for keeping work IN the US as well as for being environmentally conscious. But of course, this makes too much sense for our government to EVER do it. So it is up to US! WE THE PEOPLE must demand rehab for our country as a whole, to get us off out addiction to oil! from Pensacola by Cindy

Comment: There is plenty of oil and a whole lot of greed....not to mention Hydrogen Boosting your vehicle...If the common person can increase their mileage how is it the multi billion dollar car mfgs and oil cos can't figure it out??????????? from Milton, Fl by C

Comment: I do support drilling off the U.S. coastlines. I believe it will help out with the gas prices a little bit. Also we will not have to depend on foreign countries for their oil. With all the saftey precautions the companies have to go through, the chance for an accident is there but not that great. from Pace, FL. by Guy

Comment: After visiting Dauphin Island in Mobile County, I have seen what drilling for oil and natural gas right offshore can do to the natural beauty of an area. There are numerous drilling platforms that create a real eyesore! If these were to be located off of Pensacola Beach, it would have a horribly negative impact on tourism. I certainly wouldn't want to pay top dollar for a vacation condo if my view was littered by these platforms! from Pensacola by Rebecca

Comment: I have seen what this does to the coast. from Pensacola, FL by Joy

Comment: The state of Florida is surrounded by 3 powerful elements, wind, ocean currents and sun. Why aren't we putting these to good use? from Gulf Breeze by Mindy

Comment: What an idiotic response to a price increase. Drilling for our own oil to burn now to save a few cents/gal is like eating all of your stored food when a famine is on the way. We should buy ONLY imported oil now, while prices are cheap! What do you think mid-east oil will cost AFTER we use up all of our own? If we were smart we'd elliminate our need for oil as fast as we could, then sell our own oil to the rest of the world when the price is $100/gal. Don't Americans know that the rich Arab countries are already building zero-net-energy cities while we continue to produce Hummers?!! How stupid can we be? from Pensacola Beach, FL by David

Comment: I might find it more palatable if we had the ability to use our own oil. But since it has to be added to the global coffer and purchased back at current market price the drilling for oil in any country is ludicrious. If our government loves spending billions of tax dollars and then some each day its high time they spent it on some thing efficient. from Pace, FL by Betty

Comment: Producing our own oil is the only way to lower the price of gas, which affects everything we buy, including electricity. from Pensacola, FL by Wendy

Comment: 70% of the designated and permitted sites for drilling haven't even been tested yet. from pensacola by Dr. John

Comment: Permitting for new areas within the Gulf of Mexico is not going to resolve anything. In fact, 50-70% of permitted regions within the gulf have yet to be surveyed. from Pensacola by J

Comment: No no no! from alabama by john

Comment: forget about oil from tampa by johny
