Comment: Drill now, you can only see about 25 to 30 miles out from the shore. from navarre/fl by gene
Comment: I think if we drill we would notice a drop in gas prices and less depend on foreign oil from Milton,FL by Zach
Comment: drill offshore, anwar, out west, any where we have oil and gas. from pace/fl by mike
Comment: Don't worrw about the tourist not coming to Fla if we get a few drops on the sand. The rate its going now no one will be coming because they cannot afford the price of gas, or all transportation connected to oil. from pensacola fl by james
Comment: I agree. The water is so beautiful here don't drill here. Can't they find other places to drill. from Crestview, Fla by Jo-Ann
Comment: I think its time to drill. Our dependence on foriegn oil has gone on long enough. from Navarre Fl by Chuck
Comment: With the technology we have now I do not think there is a worry of water polution. We need to increase the supply of demand to lower gas prices. from pensacola by ronald
Comment: if it will help us..let's do it... from pensacola, fla. by carolyn
Comment: The oil companies are doing everything they can to inflate the price of fuel to force the issue of drilling in both the Gulf and Alaska to trick the public into thinking it will mean cheap gas, which it probably will for a while, but after the oil companies get what they want what is going to stop them raising the price again, and where are they going to drill next time. More research is needed into alternative fuels instead of just looking for more oil which at some point is going to run out anyway from Molino / Fl by Murray
Comment: I would not mind if they drilled in my back yard,if it would bring down the price of gas.Big money developers will lobby too stop drilling, and Tallassee, will listen!Too bad, but big money talks, and with the price of gas, the little walks. from Navarre,fl. by Mike
Comment: Within reason and using all safety precautions, I strongly support closer inshore drilling along with more economic vehicles from Mary Esther, Fl by Cordell
Comment: China is working with Cuba to extract Oil off our coast as we speak. We need to get started now!! At least we will do what we can to protect our coast from accidental spills. Who knows how they will react with any spillage. from Pace/FL by Jim
Comment: I would not mind if they drilled on the beach and put a refinery in gulf breeze. from Pace Fl by George
Comment: We must drill off of the Florida coast. With all the wells damaged during Katrina there was not a drop of oil spilled much less on the beaches. Oil gushing out of well is 50 plus year ago. New technoligy has stopped this. from Cantonment, FL by Frank
Comment: What good are pristine beaches going to do if there is NO economic health to support anyone purchasing real estate, vacationing, or spending hard-earned dollars at restaurants? The first expense to be scratched off budget sheets in times like these is the expense of "eating out." Our beautiful beaches are packed with great restaurants....who will soon feel an even bigger "pinch" as the cost of fuel increases their cost of goods, raising their menu prices, forcing vacationers and residents to more economical choices such as dining at home.
Yes, we should do everything we can to protect our coastline. This CAN and SHOULD include RESPONSIBLE drilling and transporting of fossil fuels. from Pensacola, FL by Margie
Comment: I live in Louisiana and we have no problem with the drilling and people in Florida and other state have no problem using the oil we produce. I think the worry for Florida should be for beach goers from afar not having money for gas to get to the beaches. Since the eye cannot see further than 17 miles, this is where we should start to drill before prices get to $10/gallon. thanks. from Slidell, La. by Steve
Comment: Governor Crist is flip-flopping. He is no environmentalist. He is more concerned with being McCain's running mate. from Cantonment by Judith
Comment: As I understand it, oil drilled off the gulf waters is not guaranteed for domestic use. It will, though, fill up the pockets of the Gas Companies already very filthy rich from our unreal gas appetites. By the way, how close is close to the shore? Five miles? two miles? one mile? Think of what it would do to the environment? from Milton, Fl by Abe
Comment: We should have started becoming energy independent in the 1970s. from Milton by Ronald
Comment: How many tv or newspaper stories have you seen from mobile, orane beach, gulf shores about the water messed up from oil spills or drilling? NONE. from Milton, Fl by Bubba
Comment: "DRILL WHERE THE OIL IS"
If there is oil under the beach "DRILL" this crisis is going to ruin the good ole USA.
. from pensacola fl by john
Comment: Once again Republicans are not maintaining a principled stance. They cower in fear and change their positions every time they are faced with tough decisions. The oil companies have stated that they cannot tell how much oil is present in an area until they conduct their surveys. They have large leases they have not even surveyed. Maybe a reduction of $1/gal. of gas for every 5 miles closer would be an equitable swap. It is time to make a transition to a new energy future and save our environment--a principled position. from Gulf Breeze/Fla. by Bob
Comment: When we first moved here, I was totally opposed to off shore drilling (I remember Galveston's water and shores from the 50's/60's) - but with gas prices going through the roof, I have changed my mind. Besides, drilling is cleaner and with less "spills" than in the past. Also, Florida should start building oil refineries to process the oil from our coasts.
from Gulf Breeze FL 32563 by Barb
Comment: 1) Obama's "windfall profits tax" is a bad idea. Corporations do not pay taxes - we do. Taxes are a cost od doing busines and are paid by the end consumer.
2)Drilling offshore with modren techniques is safe and should not cuse any problems for us. from Navarre, FL by Mort
Comment: When Jimmy Carter imposed the windfall profit tax on the oil companies, OK lost 200,000 jobs. Hundreds of us at a time filled out unemployment claims. I ended up in this part of the country. It took 9 years to sell my house in OK. NO windfall profits tax! from elberta,al by Shirley
Comment: Drill. Open coasts within 25 miles, ANWR, shale & oil tar. Tired of people driving SUVs saying save my beach drill over there not in my backyard. from m by Brian
Comment: !!!!!!U MEAN THERE NOT DRILLING YET? from Pensacola Florida by Finna
Comment: It is not just the price of oil...it is a national security issue. We should not be so dependant on Mid East oil!! from Shalimar, FL by Ed
Comment: oil co retiree from pensacola fl by charles
Comment: We must become energy independent. Hurricane Katrina didn't damage the oil rigs off of Louisiana coast when hit full on. So it is safe. With China and Cuba drilling off the coast of Florida, why wouldn't we get the oil ourselves? from Pensacola, FL by David
Comment: There were no oil leakage from any rigs from Katrina even tho there were damaged. from Pensacola, FL by Jim
Comment: I am in full support of drilling off the coast of Florida. Provided that it is a respectable distance from the shoreline and all appropriate precautions are taken. from Pensacola, FL by Daniel
Comment: In addition to the fact that it destroys the looks and environment of the coastline, i believe we need to put the time and dollars into alternative, renewable sources for all of our energy needs. from Pensacola, FL by Barbara
Comment: We should have been doing it along time ago. People keep saying that they want to preserve our beaches, however, with all of the bulding on the beaches there aren't much beach left for the public. from Pensacola by Dick
Comment: I would much rather see drilling rigs than condos on the beach. I saw oil wells on the beach at Longbeach, Ca. The beaches there were very clean. from Baker,Fl by Jerry
Comment: I am originally from Navarre. I feel like if they let them drill on our coast and it ruins our beaches then the community is who pays the ultimate price. Tourism is the biggest part of our economy here and if our beaches are covered in oil, or damaged due to the drilling then no one will want to come here to visit, and people like me would not be able to show our children the wonderful place we have grew up in. It wouldn't drop the gas prices even if they allowed them to drill, that would just mean more money in the politicians pocket. from Pace, FL by Lucretia
Comment: TECHNOLOGY HAS MADE DRILLING SAFER AND CLEANER THAN EVER. I THINK IT'S TIME WE WOKE UP AND LOOKED OUT FOR OUR OWN BEST INTERESTS AND USED OUR OWN RESOURCES. DO-NOTHING CONGRESSMEN NEED TO HAVE THE GUTS TO STAND UP AGAINST THE UNREASONABLE AND DANGEROUS ENVIRONMENTAL LOBBY. from PENSACOLA, FL by STEVEN
Comment: We didn't have one drop of oil hit our beaches after all the damaged riggs during the huricanes.Who will be better for the environment the US with all our strict EPA policies or China and Middle East? from Pensacola/Fl by Chris
Comment: Yes, drill now. from Pensacola, FL by Howard
Comment: One bad hurricane and our coasts are ruined our tourism will over. Gov. Crist is and has been chosing his political career over Floridians. Moving our election up and now our votes dont count? HMMMMM? Now has aspirations for being VP of Mc Cain. I oppose his idea and resent his idea of using our beautiful coast to drill. Find other sources to lower price of gas. Drill in Alaska. from Miramar Beach,FL by Rachael
Comment: Drill. What is the big deal? Prices drive the market. Time to strike a balance between Ecology and economy. from Pensacola by Jeff
Comment: I do not want our beaches to look like the beaches in California. We are known as "THE EMERALD COAST" and the beauty of our beaches show this...... from Pensacola, FL by Patsy
Comment: I think it is insane to not drill on any of our own lands that even possibly have oil. America's environmentalists are killing the working families. Environmentalists pay lobbyists to pay off Congress and Senators to vote against drilling on our own land. How many more years will we not use our own land that is full of oil and continue worrying about a POSSIBLE oil spill that may never occur! Ridiculous!!!!! from Cantonment by Valerie
Comment: yes, other countries do it, we can to. everything has a risk. from pensacola by James
Comment: I support drilling for oil off of the coast of Florida, and areas in Alaska currently off limits.
I’m for opening these areas for drilling mainly for the jobs it would create.
Michael L. Wilson

from Pensacola, FL by Michael
Comment: The government needs to promote more alternative fuels for public comsumption instead of relying on one fuel source. Conservation should be the KEY!! Environmentaly friendly fuels shoud be pushed to the front. from Milton, Fl. by Francis
Comment: The government should be looking for alternative methods of fuel comsumption. Why should we as the public be paying the CEO's of the big oil companies more money?!?!? Why should the big oil companies continue making larger profits every month at the expense of the average person who is having to decide whether to buy medicines, groceries or gas? from Milton, Fl. by Lauralee
Comment: I do not support offshore drilling since this will not bring the price of oil down. The dept of energy has estimated that opening anwr will only bring the cost of oil down 75 cents a barrel. Have they even estimated the cost to drill off shore? I believe our government should be looking into developing and encouraging public transportation with high speed rail and demanding the cafe standard for vehicles be dramatically improved. Our present administration lacks any leadership on this. They thought invading Iraq would bring down the price of oil. from navarre by chris
Comment: I oppose the drilling in the gulf closer to shore. Based on our economic system the oil will be placed on the open market and go to the highest bidder. When oil was discovered in Alaska prices were to be lower in California. This never happened a large portion of the oil was shipped to Asian markets. The price of gas in California is still one of the highest in the US, yet the oil is being pumped from Alaskan soil and sold on the open market. from Navarre by Joseph
Comment: Why should we suffer for a few, they keep building condos and we lose more and more beach access. DRILL from Milton, Fl by John
Comment: I do not support oil drilling anywhere. It's time to do something else people. from Pensacola, FL by Kevin
Comment: I believe that technology exists that makes the chances of a spill fairly remote. from Cantonment, FL by Don
Comment: Yes we need to drill; Congress should have allowed this years ago along with building new refineries. from Pensacola, FL by Ronald
Comment: I think we are at the point that we need to find our own source for fuel and not depend on the Arabs. It's time to get off our ass. from Navarre, Florida by Chris A.
Comment: I have talked to people from California and Texas and they consistently say their beaches were ruined by offshore oil rigs. One surfer said he often wears a wet suit when surfing because of the stuff in the water off California. from Pensacola by Elizabeth
Comment: Florida beaches are the most beautiful in the World. Why risk an oil spill. The clean up would take forever if at all.The left over asphalt on Navarre beach is still there how long do you think the oil would be there. from Holt ,Fl by Jim
Comment: Does anyone really believe what oil companies say? Their insatiable greed and lies are legendary. The atrocities they've committed in third world countries for oil are enough to make anyone cringe with disgust and horror. What they would do to our northwest/west Florida shoreline, fishing and wildlife would make the entire Gulf of Mexico a dead zone. We need to find alternatives to oil so our world economy is not based oil and save our planet at the same time. Our children deserve more than a destroyed planet by irresponsible oil companies. from Pensacola, FL by Karen
Comment: Drill now and drill often!! Something we should have done 20 years ago and we wouldn't be in the mess we are in now. Florida politicians have used this issue for their own gain not ours. from Pensacola, FL by Randy
Comment: Why not drill? How much oil did we lose in La during hurricane Katrina? If we had any oil spills it would have been all over the news, yet we had none. from Navarre, FL by Steve
Comment: I'm sick of the NIMBYs in our state, including our politicians. It's time to walk the walk on energy independence. by Nate
Comment: Until the gasoline prices went so high, I was against the drilling, feeling as others feel, that it could destroy our out-of-town visitors to the area. With the high prices, they can not afford to travel here or elsewhere, so we might as well begin drilling, hoping the high oil prices would decline as a result! from Pensacola by Dennis
Comment: If gas prices go up more, no one will be able to afford to go to the beach anyway! from Milton, florida by David
Comment: If drilling is allowed closer to our coast line, it would increase jobs and revenue for local charters, hotels, and other business's. from Mary Esther, FL by Alan
Comment: This may ease the price of gas in the area and offer jobs that are needed at this time. from pensacola fl by Megan
Comment: My husband and I have been for drilling off our FL coast if the need is shown... long before McCain and Crist's support. It's just common sense. from Pensacola FL by Lee R
Comment: It very simple; For every gallon oil we from off shore is one less gallown from the **$$% middle east countries. from Navarre, FL by Frank
Comment: I OPPOSE! This would be damaging to the beauty of our beaches, the wildlife that inhabit our beaches, and the tourism income that is drawn in because of our beaches. from Fort Walton Beach Florida by Lisa
Comment: Oil drilling off Florida is not the quick fix everyone thinks it is for high gas prices. It would be years before offshore drilling would provide any benefit to us. Instead of wasting these years on a resource that is harming us and will still eventually run out, we should be focusing on renewable resources that are not damaging. We should be working on new technology to help us live cleaner, rather than cleaning up the mess we are continuing to make. from Fort Walton Beach by Lisa
Comment: Wake up people,China is already drilling off our coast. I think that the Dem,s want to wait and we will be able to buy our oil from them. from Pace by Gary
Comment: Drill in Anwar NOW. Mine for
oil shale in Wyoming NOW.It's
time for the do nothing congress to act NOW. from Pensacola Fla. by Bud

Comment: How can we expect other countries to drill when we won't do it ourselves. from Pensacola by Timothy
Comment: The Greens, while trying to save America, are actually destroying America. Transporting foreign oil by tamker actually poses a far greater risk than offshore drilling. Today's drilling technology is not the same as forty years ago. How much was spilled during our most recent hurricanes? I rest me case. Drill now! from Pensacola, FL by John
Comment: The inaction that both parties have thus far displayed concerning the price of fuel has only shown the American people that both the democrats and republicans are not concerned with an impending depression. from Milton, FL by Ronald
Comment: Drilling 150 mi off shore is sufficient. The new proposal of 50 miles off shore is far too risky to our environment. This is not the solution to the market driven rise in our current oil prices. If we truly want to address this issue, lets address the way the futures market on commodities is allowed to operate to drive up prices the way it is. Lets also talk about development of the rail system this country has abandoned for so long, and lets talk about promotion of and incentives for alternative energies. from Shalimar FL by Janet
Comment: It's about time our elected officals think out of the box. This country needs to explore all forms of possible resources in order for us to become less depended on foreign oil to survive. from Pace, FL by Judy
Comment: Drilling off our coast is only a quick fix. When the oil is gone, how will our beaches look? We must change to alternatives! from Pace, FL by Marsha
Comment: There are too many ways to conserve fuel to drill off shore...lower the speed limit, go to a 4 day work week, enforce the blue law, mail deliver 5 days a week, not 6. and these are just a few. from Daphne, AL by S.
Comment: i think they should drill oil so gas price go down from MEbb by jonpaul
Comment: It's time to wake up and realize there are more clean, feasible options other than drilling for oil closer to our shores. Possible oil pollution/spills have been known to damage reefs and oceanic species, while releasing toxic metals into the water. Is that what we want closer to our beaches? Is that the chance we're willing to take?? It would be a mistake to drill closer to our beaches! from Pensacola, FL by Nicole
Comment: I'm in favor of it, simply because it makes sense. I've listened to the pros & cons for thirty plus years now. I haven't set foot on our dwindling beaches in over thirty years now; the argument for beach preservation or saving our environment for our children doesn't cut it anymore. It's our children that are destroying our beaches to put up high rise condos that Mother Nature is going to tear down (it's a simple question of when, not 'it may never happen'). Hello, remember Katrina ('05). Sure we aren't in New Orleans, but there but for the grace of God. Our turn is coming again; Erin & Opal ('95). Need I go on? The fact is that our energy sources are fizzling out, and the rate we're using oil and it's by-products, we (as Americans) have to do something--and damn soon. The argument of the Air Force using the Gulf for practice is valid, but with all the real-life time they are getting today, they will probably be willing to sacrifice a bit to secure our own source of energy. No matter what I think or say, what it boils down to is which interest group has the most "grease" to lubricate our politicians "sense of vote". from Mary Esther, Fl. by Tom
Comment: WE need to reduce dependence on foreign oil...but Americans really need to change their habits and consume less as well....slow down....walk and ride bikes more
Comment: i only support it with conditions...if "all options to lower fuel prices" are considered i would be for drilling if they pass laws to state that all cars and trucks must have more than 35 mpg average, any older vehicles that do not get this must pay extra fuel tax or incentives to be traded in within two years for more fuel efficient vehicles...they are causing the the rising fuel consumption...not helping! from p'cola by h
Comment: It is long past time we drilled for more of our own natural resources. We have through our dependence on foreign oil funded the very terrorists who are trying to kill us. Oil is produced from offshore in the Gulf of Mexico every day and has been for over 50 years. Let the drilling begin! from Gulf Breeze by Terry
Comment: Start drilling now!! from Pensacola, FL 32503 by Charles
Comment: I think it's time let the oil companies drill where ever there is oil. We in florida need to understand that if gas prices continue to increase we won't have a tourist industry to worry about. The tourist will not be able to afford to come to flordia. We need to increase drilling, solar, hydrogen, wind and any other type of fuel to help this country to become energy independent. from Baker, Florida by Danny
Comment: yhe problem is dems. will never approve of drilling in the u.s. so if you want gas prices to get even higher vote your concious in nov. from pensacola by mike
Comment: DRILL HERE, DRILL NOW, PAY LESS! by Lannie
Comment: we are 20 years to late for this..
Comment: I FULLY support offshore drilling and have for 30 years. If the government had any forward-thinkers, they would have designed a "catch-ring" like what was used in the Valdez Oil Spill to contain and suck up any leakage.
Governor Crist's worrisome thumbs-down has been predicated on protecting Florida's beaches. They would be protected with the qabove simple plan. from Pensacola, FL by Brian
Comment: I support drilling. I'm tired of the people paying .12 and .40 for a gallon of gas. Why does Florida have a law saying you can't sell gas for less then you buy it for? That is anti capitalism. from fwb fl 32547 by marsha
Comment: florida is worng for not allowing on shore drilling for oil. Lets stop worrying baout damge to the beach's and help lower gas prices and keep the cost of gas down. from navarre fl by jason
Comment: One accident could ruin tourism for years to come. Oil from Florida would drop prices one cent 20 years from now, according to one source. from Gulf Breeze, FL by Ann
Comment: If we are allowing other countries to drill off of our coast, then why are our own people stopping us from drilling. What's the difference of who makes a mess. We'll have to clean it up regardless. And to the people who are worried about tourism, how can people visit our area if they can't afford to get here??? from Milton by Jason
Comment: If they can drill in the North Sea without any problems, there won't be any problems here. And we need to get more self-sufficient. from Milton Fl by John
Comment: . from Pensacola, FL by Rosalinda
Comment: florida is worng for not allowing on shore drilling for oil. Lets stop worrying about damge to the beach's the tourism dependent economy and help lower gas prices and allow florida to drill on shore for oil and keep the cost of gas down. from navarre fl by jason
Comment: I oppose offshore drilling! The oil companies need to cowboy up and live with the fact that oil is soon to be a thing of the past. We don't want, and we don't need gas powered automobiles. The earth is a living being, and it's our only home. Pumping oil out of her is the same as pumping blood out of us. Not to mention all the air pollution we are creating by driving gasoline powered automobiles. It'll be five years or more until the oil could be made available anyway. In five years, thirty percent of the nation should be driving alternative powered vehicles. The need for oil will be diminishing drastically by that time. What we are witnessing now is a desperate attempt to make as much money as possible by the oil tycoons, like the Bush's. Our fearless leader and others like him are fueled by fear (of losing all that money) motivated by Global Warming. from Pensacola by Kim
Comment: We need more oil and pursue alternative fuels as well. It will take decades to replace oil with alternatives. DRILL NOW!!! from Pace, FL by Chris
Comment: Once our beaches have been contaminated with oil residue they can never return to their present state. I have lived in Texas and seen what oil can do. Go to Alaska and disturb a few animals. from Fl. by Mary
Comment: we musr cease dependence on forein p[oil, especially from our Wahahbi saudi arabia friends? from pensacola fl by edward
Comment: Because of the lazy man or woman, drilling should not be permitted off the coast of North West Florida. We can not allow a possible accident to happen. Our beaches are one of the natural wonders of our life. from Fort Walton Beach,Fl by Deanna
Comment: china and cuba are going to be drilling off our coast, stealing our oil, whose going to sue the chinese because their technology is no wheres good as ours. from pensacola fl by wayne
Comment: I think that we should start drilling for oil NOW. we keep waiting on somebody or something to help us in our needs.....we need to take hold of the situation and get started....if we keep waiting... the 5 year period that is being forecasted for our seeing any difference in gas prices will keep on being 5 years from when we finally get started drilling. Let's Go!
Bill Peterson

Comment: I support it because sooner or later it is going to have to be done so it might as well be sooner. We cannot trust Saudi to continue supplying us forever. Ray from Pensacola, Fl by Raymond
Comment: I strongly support drilling! from Niceville by Janine
Comment: I think we should drill for new sources of oil and other fuels as well as start using the resources we have already. from Pensacola, FL by Susan
Comment: If you don't support the chance of getting oil and being self-supporting, you don't have any right to cry about high gas prices. from Holt, Fl by Ed
Comment: If you drive or ride in a car, bus, airplane or any other engine driven vehicle, Then you are using oil and should support all efforts to produce the lifeblood of our transportation and manufacturing industries. from Pensacola, FL by Harold
Comment: I have supported it for along time. Not only will it help fuel prices it will act as reefs for fish. from Crestview by Damion
Comment: 100% behind more offshore drilling from Andalusia, AL by Brent
Comment: I think they should drill much closer to the coast. A cheaper gas price is more important than a few people getting rich off tourist. from Pensacola, Fl by Jan
Comment: We should drill as close to the shore an we can find oil. If that means drilling on the beach, so be it. It is time our politicians realize that this tourism-dependent economy slows down as the price of gas goes up. I have a suggestion. Lets get more good paying jobs in the state of Fl. This tourism-dependent economy only helps a few rich people get richer. Jobs created by this tourism-economy only creates low wage jobs. Wake up Florida Politicians and help the majority of the residents of Fl get better paying jobs instead of looking out for the rich people. from Pensacola, FL by Frank
Comment: It would be fine with me to put a drilling rig in my front yard.Of course we should find and use any and all energy resources. from Pensacola by Ross
Comment: If it would lower our requirement for foreign oil rigs off the coast would be a welcome site by Rich
