Gas Tax for ECAT?: Do you support a 3-cent gas tax to fund the 'ECAT' bus system?

7.53% Yes
91.78% No

Comment: This is a joke isn't it? from Pensacola, Fl by Pam

Comment: NO...let the ones that use the bus system pay for it. We haven't used a bus in years and don't think it is right to make us pay for what others want to use. We are about taxed to death now. from Pensacola, FL by Marilyn

Comment: I shouldnt have to pay more for my already high gas for something I dont use!!! Up the rates to ride the bus instead and let the ones who ride pay for the gas just as we pay for the gas in our cars. from Pen, FL by Susan

Comment: I said 'yes', but only on gas, leave the rest of the additions alone. Rental cars are already expensive to rent, tourists will buy our gas, why a tourism tac and construction is too high anyway, why burden them with more taxes? from pensacola, FL by georgia

Comment: If ECAT can not support themself, then it is time to shut the transit system down. It seems that not long ago they purchased some new busses that were not in the budget. If mass transit is not needed then we should not pay massive salaries and other bonuses. from Pensacola/FLA by Frederick

Comment: Would the people have to pay? I really DO NOT want another tax imposed upon me,I can't afford it.Look at our local bills, taxes are nearly as bad the bill. Besides, everyone has known about gas getting so expensive, why hasn't ECAT bought smaller buses. I think this another way for powers-to-be to "stick" it to the tax-payer because of the their lack of vision to the future! from Pensacola, FL by Russell

Comment: No! No! No! No to a 3 cent gas tax, no to a $25.00 property tax. Yes to the rental car tax. I can barely make ends meet now, so I surely don't need a gas tax on top of the already horrible gas prices!!!!!!!!! I thought the governor and legislature were trying to cut property taxes. Why would I support another property tax in addition the fire tax and the regular tax? I never use the public transportation system. I worked all my life and I have a car. I DO NOT support a 3 cent gas tax or a new property tax. If they are determined to raise a tax, raise the rental car tax. Lee from Pensacola, FL by Lee

Comment: Are these people nuts! I can't buy gas, or buy food because of high gas prices. I see these buses go by here in Century with one, sometimes two people in the bus. What a waste of taxpayers money. Escambia County will never learn. All the Commissioners know. "Just Tax Them More", that will fix it. Vote them out! from Century by Brenda

Comment: @ the price of gas, add more?? i think not from crestview, fl by ray

Comment: With gas prices already going up and up, how could one even CONSIDER adding additional tax to gas? ECAT needs to figure out a way to be self-sufficient. by Bill

Comment: Take a welding torch, cut every Ecat bus into small pieces and take them to the dump. Everybody will be better off and save the taxpayers a ton of money. from Pensacola by Cheryl

Comment: itneeds to be privatized...then the tax would not be needed... from pcola by h

Comment: INCREASE THE BUS FARE. from Molino, FL by Ed

Comment: Let the bus riders pay for the increase in the cost of gas by increasing the cost of their bus fare. from Pensacola by N

Comment: people who ride the bus should pay whatever the cost is. No one helps pay the $75 it now costs to fill up my F150. from pensacola fl by james

Comment: Let's see if this is right. I'm already paying over $3.50 a gallon to get to work, and now some genius wants me to pay extra for a service I can't use. The bus doesn't even come anywhere close to my house. from Pensacola by Kathy

Comment: I think the leaders of this county have gone crazy wanting to tax us yet again for a service few people use. Is is not enough that we now have franchise fees, customer fees, impact fees, move the waste treatment plant fees, all kinds of federal and local taxes of every service that we need. It's time we stopped all the taxing and start charging those who use this service.....raise E-Cat rates for those who use it. from Cantonment, FL by Debi

Comment: We are paying enough added gas tax now. NO NO NO from Pensacola Florida by Rosemary

Comment: Years ago we could elect leaders of our county and they would sit down and find solutions to money problems without hurting the people of our county. In the past 25 years our county leaders just sit down and say just pass it on to our people with some kind of tax. We are sick and tired of any and all tax. The people of this county should sign petitions to put on ballot to get rid of any and all tax this county levies on its people. Then maybe we can live again. from Pensacola by Daniel

Comment: HELL NO!!!! Fire all Commissioners for asking such a stupid question. from Cantonment/Florida by Sarah

Comment: This idea could not have come at a worse time. Any politician voting in favor of this should be unseated. from Pensacola, FL by Daniel

Comment: no but hell no. by bill

Comment: Gee, I think maybe Americans should give up their giant gas guzzlers, trade them in for motorcycles or bicycles. They would get healthier, save on gas and have happier lives. You think? from Florida by Carolyn

Comment: Gee, I think maybe Americans should give up their giant gas guzzlers, trade them in for motorcycles or bicycles. They would get healthier, save on gas and have happier lives. You think? from Pensacola, Florida by Carolyn

Comment: I WOULD SUPPORT 10 CENTS PER GALLON FOR A MONORAIL SYSTEM THAT LINKED THE AIRPORT, HOSPITALS, MALLS, NAS, GULF BREEZE AND THE BEACH. THIS WOULD CUT DOWN ON OUR TRAFFIC AND POLLUTION PROBLEMS NOT TO MENTION LESS WEAR AND TEAR ON OUR COSTLY ROADWAYS. I THINK THIS IS A GOOD ALTERNATIVE FORM OF TRANSPORTATION ESPICALLY IF FUEL PRICES CONTIUE TO RISE $7-10 A GALLON? LETS THINK THE FUTURE! from PENSACOLA, FL by DAVID

Comment: NO, NO, NO. This County has taxed us enough. from Pensacola, Florida by Donnie

Comment: I fully support the ECAT bus system, but I don't support a tax increase on gas when gas prices are high enough as it is! What's next? Tax hikes on our food and pets?? The government needs to get it together, find a workable solution, stop taxing the working poor to death, and stop putting our hard earned money into the rich man's pockets!!! We work hard for our money, what little we make in this state, and we deserve to be able to hold onto it if we so choose. Come on people, get it together already!! from Pensacola, FL by Monica

Comment: raise the fares, pay as you go from pns,fl by john

Comment: This tax will be unfair to those of us who live a distance from Pensacola, i.e., the "forgotten" north end of the county. Make the people who ride the bus pay more for the ride. We have to pay for our vehicles and insurance. Nobody gets a free ride!!! from Molino, FL by Brenda

Comment: There's should be a different way to fund ECAT's fund crisis. Theres no reason we should pay more for gas when we are already paying high gas prices. from Pensacola by Christopher

Comment: I only wish the buses ran out on my side of town. Mass transportation is what we need more of in escambia. from Pensacola by Mellie

Comment: Let the people who ride the bus pay. Big cities charge or offer vouchers for those who cannot afford to pay. from Pensacola, FL by Don

Comment: The tax payers are subsidising ECAT enough already, if the system isn't making money under the control of the county, sell it to a private company that can operate it at a profit. Maybe a private company would provide better routes and a user friendly website that makes it easier to figure out where and when the buses are running. from Pensacola Fla by Rich

Comment: This is not the answer, how about raising the fare to ride the bus. The current 30 day pass cost less than one tank of gas. We drivers are all paying a much greater amount to travel work; the same should apply to those that use the bus. No one is going to supplement my commuting cost, while should I be forced to supplement others. from Pensacola,FL by Dennis

Comment: If we do not want our area to stagnate, we must keep the buses rolling. I never ride one but many people do who desperately need the rides. I do not plan to drive many of them to their destinations but will be happy to pay the three cents more a gallon. God Bless them. from Molino, FL by Lil

Comment: I have lived in cities all around the world that have actually had a real transportation system. All areas of the city were accessable by the system, in a timely manner, and because of the convenience to the community, was used by the community, and it supported itself. If this system operated in a manner that it was available, and timely for workers in the area to use, the system would work. As it is now, if you do not work 9 to 5, and in a very narrow area, you can not use this system as reliable transportation. It does not even operate on Sunday when people would like to get out can't. from Pensacola / FL by Charles

Comment: I can't afford another 3 cents a gallon, especially to fund something that isn't available in my area. from Cantonment, FL by Brenda

Comment: If we do not want our area to stagnate, we must keep the buses rolling. I never ride one but many people do who desperately need the rides. I do not plan to drive many of them to their destinations but will be happy to pay the three cents more a gallon. God Bless them. from Molino, FL by Lil

Comment: No. We do not need to pay for ECAT people to ride the buses.Another .03 cent tax is not right for all tax payers. Raise the fees to ride the bus. No one pays for me to fill my gas tank. This is not a Socialist Country yet ! from Pensacola by James

Comment: Increase the fare to those who use it then if more funding is required increase the sales tax by 1 cent from Pensacola, Fl by George

Comment: I am a small business owner and it's hard times for alot of us. Sure would be nice if we could have good old tax payers bail us out from pensacola by steve

Comment: No way No way No way. Enough is enough. We don't use the bus - why should we pay for their transportation. Most of the folks who use the bus also probably get other help somewhere and who pays for that - us too - no tax - no way - enough is enough from Pensacola, FL by Lori

Comment: Please, not another gas tax ....are you crazy? Get out of the Bus business and let those that use it pay for it. Like most other things in life. You play you pay. The bus rider is not paying my gas bill for me to drive. It is my car and I alone pay to drive it. I drive and I pay. You ride so you pay. from Cant. FL by Robert

Comment: Only a small percent of people in this area ride the Bus a 3 cent tax affects very MANY more who don't ride the BUS. from Gulf Breeze by Ed

Comment: Shut it down and lower the tax 3 cents on gas?? from pensacola,Fl by Brian

Comment: These idiot county commissioner's never cease to amaze me. I would have left this sorry county 20 year's ago if it were not for ny wife wanting to stay. from Molino FL by Robert

Comment: ECAT is not available to me at my community. Let the people who use it pay for it. I would go to Alabama to buy my gas. from Bratt, FL by William

Comment: This committee has undoubtably not listened to the citizens of Escambia County. We do not need to raise any taxes at this time. The majority of Escambia County residents are aleady frustrated with the high taxes in Escambia County. from Pensacola,FL by S

Comment: Why should we keep bailing out people who cannot run their business. Enough is enough! from Pensacola Fl by E

Comment: Most ridiculous idea I ever heard of - to make the people who don't ride the bus, pay for the bus service. My wife works in Milton and it most certainly will cost her more than $15.00 per year. from Cantonment, Fl by Clinton

Comment: I disagree with adding 3 cents tax for ECAT. With gas prices going up almost daily how can someone suggest even more cost being added? And once it is added it will be forever,as are most taxes. from Cantonment, FL by Jack

Comment: Sell the big buses and purchase vans. I really do not think very many folks use this transportation anyway. This way there will be a savings in fuel without the tax. from Pensacola, Fl by Wanda

Comment: The riders should pay..... "yes" is a vote for socialism. from Navarre/FL by Gene

Comment: thats the reason they need 3 cents tax because they can't afford the gas so it doesn't make sense to raise it more from pensacola, fl. by carol

Comment: Raise the bus fair fee. If they choose to ride the bus, they should pay for it. We have enough to pay for and can barely afford gas as it is! from Cantonment, FL by Mike

Comment: Escambia County is tax poor already. Raising taxes does not help a community grow, but rather holds it down in the trenches. by Jerry

Comment: Why should all residents have to bear the burden for those that use the bus system what about the poor in Century? from Milton/Fl by Brenda

Comment: HELL NO....not at a time when we're getting soaked at the gas pumps already. If you use the bus, you should pay for it. Since the busses run empty most of the time, we need smaller, more efficient busses, and bus routes that people actually use. from Pensacola, FL by Larry

Comment: ECAT is a business and should be run as such. If expenditures exceed profits, adjustments should be made, as with the school system. Why shouldn't any business be afforded the luxury, as ECAT, of asking the county for funds when operating expenses rise? As I live on the west side, I'm sure FRED'S could use some county assistance and the eyesore of another empty building could be avoided. from Pensacola by Rodney

Comment: no more tax. ecat should be self supporting. no person pays for my ride to go to work or doctor or store. from milton by r

Comment: Of course not.....whenever money comes up, this county's only answer is to raise taxes. Enough already!! We need people in this county who have good ideas on controlling costs and being effiecient instead of a one-trick pony to raise taxes over and over. Continually increasing taxes is the answer of someone who is incompetent, irresponsible, and incapable of handling other people's money. from Pensacola by Larry

Comment: Most of us do not ride the ECAT, but then we dont have children in schools either. But all of us pull together to make this communities conveniences available for all. Thats what we do as Americans. All for one and One for All! from Pns, Fl by Sandra

Comment: We are taxed to death. City, County, State, and Federal. Enough is enough. We the people have had enough. Leave us alone. We even have to pay a tax on water to flush the toilet. from Pensacola by Alex

Comment: I thought April Fool's had passed. from Pensacola by Melissa

Comment: Some have to choose between eating or car gas now... from Milton/Fl by Brenda

Comment: Those who ride must bear the cost of operating the system. from Pensacola, Florida by Anne

Comment: Tax? No,No,No. We are fed up with tax, tax, tax. We have had enough ! from Cantonment by Robert

Comment: People, we have got to stand up to these people who want to ruin our lives. Why do we elect people that in turn tax us to death? We have families that are hurting bad, and even going hungry because of these people. Vote all of them out. from Walnut Hill by Frank

Comment: I thought I liked our county commissioner in district 5. I'm going to show him what I think about taxe's when election time comes. from Molino by James

Comment: WHY NOT CHARGE EXTRA FOR THE RIDE DONT CHARGE THOSE WHO DONT EVEN RIDE THE BUS.THAT IS JUST DUMB. from CANTONMENT,FL by DANIEL

Comment: Are they crazy? Why should I pay for someone else to ride! from Pensacola/Florida by Albert

Comment: I think gas is expensive enough. I feel that the oil companies make more than enough profit from the already outrageous gas prices. These days, people are only working to put gas in their vehicles. When a 12 gallon tank takes $45 to fill up, it's time for the oil companies to stop being greedy and start letting go of a little profit to help not only the working class Americans but also to help public transportation. Raising gas tax is penalizing those of us who have private vehicles and it's another way for the government to screw the tax payers that pay their salaries and we have had enough! from Pensacola, FL by Jacini

Comment: a gas tax or sales tax is not the answer to everything. Maaaybe new county commissioners are. by Steve

Comment: Public Transportation will become more and more imortant as the price of gas continues to rise. Three cents, less than one percent of the current price, is a negligible hit to my wallet. It increases the cost of filling my gas hog Dodget Ram (27 gallons) by 81 cents. from Pensacola/FL by Robert

Comment: Let the riders of the ECAT system fund their own transportation needs...don't penalize me just because I live in Escambia County! from Cantonment, FL by Steve

Comment: how much more can we stand ??? from pensacola,fl by steve

Comment: Don't you think the price of gasoline is high enough already? from Pensacola,Fl. by G

Comment: NO WAY!! If they want to ride the bus then let the bus riders pay extra just like the car drivers have to pay extra for gas! from Pace by Lisa

Comment: Don't give a department that is losing money an independent source of funding. Hold them accountable to the Commission. from Cantonment by James

Comment: Never! by Sylvia

Comment: Enough with the taxes already, This is the stupidest idea I have heard of, thepeople riding the buses save on their gas bill and then we have to pay their tickets yet?????? from Pensacola, FL by Tom

Comment: Goodness, let the riders pay additional money, just like the rest of the riders that have to pay car payment, car insurance and high gas prices. We don't get a break and now we are going to be penalized again. Come on, pull your boots up "ECAT" and charge more to ride. It's real simple, are you saying that your passengers can't understand that everything is going up in price, so they will have to help pay for "thier" gas to ride the bus. Man-o-man, that was real hard to figure out!!!!! Real simple, get your calculators out, change the price for a ticket and move on. I'm confident that your passengers will figure out how to pay for thier ticket to ride. Thank you from Pensacola by Manya

Comment: Some people aren't as fortunate to have their vehicle and this is the only way to work, etc.. It may be any of us before this gas crisis comes to a head. from Pensacola, FL by Sharon

Comment: gas is high enough, I can't use the bus if I wanted to, it don't come out on Blue Angel where I live, and if I did use the bus it is still not right to charge the people that don't use it, cut the drivers pay or stop routes that are not makeing money from Pensacola Fl. by David

Comment: they gotta be kidding -- in cantonment we don't have adequate ways to get a bus ride to pensacola and back -- surely this is a joke with gas prices what they are and old folks living on a fixed income and young people not being able to find a decent paying job. no - no - and no from cantonment, fl by m

Comment: If you can't fix it, tax it. It was very obvious that when the property taxes were lowered, the powers to be would find another way to rob us. by Bill

Comment: Please stop the madness. Personally, I have lost my home to the hurricanes, and adjusted to full-time RV life. Thus, required to have a large truck to haul same and gas being an issue.Fuel prices are tremendous to this retired military family without asking now for a few more cents a gallon for gasoline. There just isnt much more I can endure to stay above losing my dignity and being tossed to the streets in homelessness. My wife would be ashamed to know that we are this close to poverty. JUST SAY NO !!! from Pensacola/Fl by Mark

Comment: Some people can't afford to live now as it is. raising the gas tax is not the way to go. from Crestview,FL by Daniel

Comment: gas is already to high i cant afford no more gas hikes from Pensacola,FL by Renee

Comment: No. I am already paying an increase in gas, insurance and maintenance for use of my personal vehicle. My commute is 14 miles from north central escambia county to NAS, and the one time I had to use the ECAT service it took over two hours to get to my destination. An increase in fares for those who use ECAT is the appropriate solution. from pensacola fl by nancy

Comment: I don't feel like we all should have to pay for a service we don't use.We as car owners or buyers are paying enough for gas just to go back and forth to work. Why don't they just go up on the bus fare. That is more logical to me. from Fl by Karen

Comment: NO! There are other ways to fund the ECAT endeavor, and taxing gas is too much to ask of consumers. Some other ideas would be to tax cigarettes and alcohol could be an option, along with raising the actual fare to use buses. A combination of both would make the most sense. Another idea, use some proceeds from state lotterys. The jackpots must generate a substantial intrest in between winnings. from pensacola, fl by Valerie

Comment: Any other business that needs more money to stay running raises their prices. Why should I pay for something I do not use. We already pay too much for gas. If the price goes up much more, I may not be able to continue driving to work, but the bus does not run at the times I need. Let the people that use the bus pay for the bus. That is the only thing makes sense. from Pensacola,fl by Jan

Comment: Are you crazy first of all ecat doesnt come nowhere near where I live. Why should I be paying for someone else to ride. I pay for fule car insurance and car repairs and work to jobs to do this and have children. It call budgeting something the county doesn't know how to do. from Pensacola/Fl by Elizabeth

Comment: Why would place a tax on something that the Ecat riders will not be paying? Tax something that Everyone will be taxed... from Cantonment Florida by Kathryn

Comment: I was going to use it in the past, but it did'nt run in the area I needed to go. from Pensacola, FL by Dan

Comment: If ridership is down, get smaller buses! Why should we raise gas taxes, when we are trying to lower them? We need the buses but we need to be more creative in funding them. from Pensacola, FL by JRoAnne

Comment: Everyone who drives should not have to fund those who don't. Let the tourist help fund it. from Pensacola,FL by Rose

Comment: No from Pensacola/Florida by T
