Gas Prices: Do you believe the federal government is doing enough to keep gas prices down?

12.5% Yes
80% No

Comment: Politicians, for the most part, cannot be trusted. They have no virtue. The only way to have virtue is to walk in the Spirit and not fulfill the lust of the flesh. And the only way to walk in the Spirit is to be Spirit filled, blood-bought, and born again. Since by their conversation we are not ignorant of Satan's devices and have the discernment (of the Spirit, most politicians are in it for themselves and not the best interest of us citizens. from DeFuniak Springs by Cesare

Comment: Not doing enough! from Pensacola,FL by S

Comment: no i dont think they are doing enough.the federal govt. employees make more money in a month than most of the low income make in a year. so the cost of gas is nothing to them. while the rest of us have to give up,medicine and food. and a nice sunday drive. because we dont make enough money . from pensacola fl. by charline

Comment: Absolutely not, Gas prices deviate so much and rise so fast I don't believe the Govt can't help but realize the impact. Gas is 2.00 in mexico, does that mean they have better refineries or that the govt is forcing consumers to slow down and adapt their lives for the sake of OPEC. from navarre fl by glenn

Comment: what has government got to do with it, other than force us to pay for extra steps in fuel processing adding to the cost. from navarre/fl by gene

Comment: Is this guy on the level?http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=3340274697167011147 from Pensacola,FL by P

Comment: Is $3.50, $4.00, or $5.00 a gallon too much to pay for gas. Americans pay in excess for expensive cars, houses, condos and even food. They don't think twice about paying $20.00 or more for a steak at one meal, but complain about paying for gas to get to these expensive restaurants. What would america do without any gas or oil. They need to pay the price, appreciate what they have, and shut up. from brewton al by Sarah

Comment: gas price are rediculously high. i don't why the gov can't control the hike in gas prices. maybe a better tax credit on gas or something like it. before long parents will be chosing gas or food for their children or even a life savng medicine. from pace florida by C

Comment: It is not the responsibility of the Federal Government to control any prices, that kind of control only exists in Socialist/Communist lands. The high price of a barrel of oil is being driven up by commidies speculators (your 401K's) from Pensacola by James

Comment: I think the gas prices being so high is a way for the oil companys to become richer. Our government should step in and do something. They talk about price gauging during a hurricane to other companys, but not to the oil companys when they go up on gas prices just because it is summer and it means vacation time. Thats taking advantage of everyone. from Milton, Florida by Amanda

Comment: The government should not pay for people to drive gas hogs. Buy a four cylinder small vehicle and the cost per mile will be far less that a v6 or v8. from Fort Walton Beach, FL by Ray

Comment: No, but comparing gas prices in the U.S. with Europe is like comparing apples and oranges. European countries are socialist countries and at least 80% of the cost of their gas is due to taxes. They don't pay for health care, education, etc. So, the comparison is misleading. from Ft. Walton Bch, FL by Don

Comment: making car have better gas mileage will not help low income and elderly people or one who can not buy new cars from pensacola fl by sharon

Comment: The govt. and the oil companies are in it together. They found out after Ivan that we would pay the high prices. They blame it on the hurricanes and the war in Iraq while people are losing their homes.People on minimum wages can't afford to pay bills for spending their paychecks on gas to get back and forth to work. from century,fl by mike

Comment: You can not compare the gas prices in Europe to ours over here. If you took all the taxes off the gas prices we would be paying more for gas here then they are. One reason their gas is so high is because that is one way they pay for their free health care, child care and education. Look at the gas price prior to 2001 and look at it now and you tell me if the government is doing enough. from Pensacola, FL by Andy

Comment: The last time I checked it was not government's job to set prices. Government at all levels have restricted private companies from exploring and extracting energy and from building refineries to process raw stock into fuels. Maybe the government could ask the rest of the world to cut their gas usage by 10% and ship that product to the U.S., remedying supply. Another option would be to ask the criminals in Nigeria to please leave the oil pipelines alone. Oh, and they could beg the crazy in Venezuela to send us more petroleum and reduce the price .......... from Pensacola, FL by Rick

Comment: Maybe, you could run a story about erideshare.com, people need to register to carpool, the government is not going to help you, you have to help yourself. from Milton, Fl by Ann

Comment: No, they are doing absolutely nothing to help. What do they care it hasn't effected them, but they are slowly pushing everyone else to bankruptcy. from Jay, FL by Michele

Comment: The Government is absolutely not doing enough to keep gas prices down. There is no reason for our oil prices to soar like this, other than pure greed. The US Government is allowing the Oil Companies to make huge profits, at the cost of the US Citizens. Makes one wonder just how much George Bush will pocket from all of this, once all of the stockpiles of oil are released after his presidency. England may have higher gas prices, but they also have a stronger dollar, and higher paying jobs. This is doing nothing more than pushing businesses out of business, and causing a major recession. from Milton, FL by Phillip

Comment: Why are gas prices lower in Mexico than ther U.S.? The only thing our govt. is going is "lip service". from Pensacola FL by v

Comment: NO NO NO George Bush along with all the other oil industry CEOs just keep filling there pockets and laughing all the way to the bank. from PENSACOLA, FL by SHIRLEY

Comment: I don't think the governement is doing much to help. I was a stay at home mom and now I am working part time to afford gas and other household items that have gone up because of the gas prices. If prices continue to climb like Triple A is predicting I guess my husband will have to pick a second job. Is that really fair for my children to have less time with thier dad because gas prices are driving everything up? I don't think so. from Fort Walton Beach, Fl by christie

Comment: It seems to me that the federal government stepped in to put a stop to monopolies in the country back in the 1890s-----it worked then; and it should work today. One concept the military service emparts to its members is that "country comes first". If we (the USA) would stop subsidizing world social reform and worry about the USA, it would work again. A choice between helping Americans versus FOREIGN OIL BARONS, should be a no-brainer: WE COME FIRST. from Mary Esther, FL. by Tom

Comment: As long as our troops are overseas fighting in this ridiculous war, which seems to not be solving anything, & causing more problems for us( Thanks to the President ).The gas prices & everything else will keep rising to outrages numbers & if the government was doing enough prices wouldn't keep rising. I remember when a person needed a ride $5.00 was enough now people expect $15.00 to $20.00 because gas is so high now. from Pensacola,FL by Amelia

Comment: the eco-jerks have gotten the government to prohibit a recovery. Building refineries, drilling in the gulf, just do it. from navarre/fl by gene

Comment: I just can't belive there a reason for the big raise in price, and someone is getting richer, I think we they were taxed for all this money it would go down. from milton fl by kelly

Comment: I don't think the Government gives darn what we have too pay for gas, if they really did, they would have already done something about it from Pensacola by Roger

Comment: I don't feel the government is doing enough on gas prices or on the financial downfall that everyone is experience. All you hear is how terrible things are and how there's no light at the end of the tunnel. State, local and government agency simply talk and have no solutions. My questions to them would be, what do we do with gas prices going up and up. You hear well conserve. Well folks have to get to work don't they. Also, just got my homeowner's insurance and tax bill. It was an unbelievable site. How far are are they willing to take this crisis to. When we have millions of people living on the steets and applying for welfare? Or when parents tell their children there's no more food. Forget about college! I've been struggling trying to find a job. The economy is horrible and the president say that we are in no recession. Well what do you call this. I call it hell!!! from milton by jacqueine

Comment: I believe that the government is not doing much about the cost of gas. If a investigation was done the American people would see how many government officials are part of oil industries. With the economy dropping everyday the government should step in and realize that more people would spend money again if gas would drop in cost. So I believe that the president needs step in and start making the United States government drill for oil if the private companies can not handle the rise in demand from pensacola,fl by john

Comment: Our goverment has fallen short, they line there pokets with oil lobbyist money, and commen people like us, we stuggle every day to just live. Our goverment is out for themselfs.... from pace by Bryan

Comment: I don't think the Government gives darn what we have too pay for gas, if they really did, they would have already done something about it from Pensacola by Roger

Comment: I don't think the Government gives darn what we have too pay for gas, if they really did, they would have already done something about it from Pensacola by Roger

Comment: The politicians want us to believe that supply and demand is the problem but they don't want the American people to know that we can't increase supply because we haven't had a new refinery in this country in many years. The demand has risen because more people are driving but the supply won't rise because the more gas we buy the more taxes are being made which pads the pockets of our crooked politicians. from Milton by Ashley

Comment: We unfortunatly are a fuel run economy. With the gas prices soaring, so does everything else. A recession is for certain if they don't wake up. I have a choice for many things that may cost alot more but i don't have a choice on buying gas. I have to pay bills. from Silverhill, Al by Sheri

Comment: With Oil Companies posting record profits last year and the government not doing anything about it. The common man losing his job due to higher prices of fuel. The government needs to step in and start regulating oil companies. It's true that arab nations are raising costs of barrels of oil but the government should be penalizing oil companies for raising prices of gas do to here say and rumor. My prayers go out to those families that depend on income from operating vehicles to make a living as more of them will be without jobs due to cut backs, due to gas prices going so high and the government basically in their and my eyes doing nothing. from Milton, FL by Kevin

Comment: NO NO NO NO NO NO NO With the price of gasoline so high, it is costing more to go to work & people have to work in order to live, AND with the amount people get paid & no pay increase ---------We ALL will be in poverty!! THE GOVERNMENT CAN CHANGE THIS AND LOWER THE GAS, BUT THEY WON'T!!!! from Pensacola, FL by Jeanne

Comment: NO WAY! ITS JUST FUNNY THAT THEY HAVE SO MUCH CONTROL OVER EVERYTHING ELSE BUT CAN'T DO ANYTHING ABOUT THE PRICE OF GAS. I DON'T WANT TO RIDE A SCOOTER TO AND FROM WORK EVERYDAY BUT IT LOOKS LIKE EVERYONE IN AMERICA IS ABOUT TO BE IF THIS KEEPS UP MUCH LONGER. from PENSACOL,FL by BRANDY
