Coastal Crisis

Coastal Crisis

PENSACOLA BEACH - If you come in contact with oil on local beaches... there is now a way for you to clean off.

24 cleaning stations have been set up on Pensacola Beach.

There's six on Perdido Key.

14 stations will be placed on Navarre Beach.

It wasn't the crystal blue water that brought Cecilia Schupp and her husband John to Pensacola Beach from Fairhope.

It was a new found interest.

Cecilia Schupp/Visiting Pensacola Beach

"I read an article about these clean up stations and I thought it was a fabulous idea. I was curious about it and I was glad to know I didn't need it today."

The clean up stations were put here over the weekend to help get oil off your body.

"There are 24 of these stations now set up on Pensacola Beach. There's soap for your hands, water and paper towels, so you can dry off."

Eddy Kiihnl/Visiting Pensacola Beach

"It was nice to see they're trying what they can to try to keep whatever contaminants are out there. Keep us half way clean anyway."

Eddie Kiihnl didn't see any tar balls one the beach during his visit, but cleaned off anyway.

Eddy Kiihnl/Visiting Pensacola Beach

"With the dispersants and chemicals, I had my little three year old out here. He came up and washed his hands. I washed mine and we headed out to dinner."

There were no reports of tar balls on Pensacola Beach Monday, but visitors say it's good to have the clean up stations in place... just in case.

BP will be paying for the cleaning stations in both Escambia and Santa Rosa Counties.
