ANGELS IN OUR MIDST
What she did is a reminder that we all have something that we can do to make a difference.
This is the story of the very big heart of one of the littlest Angels In Our Midst.
Mom; I came to pick her up at day care and there was a sign on the door that said that the food pantry was out. So, I asked the teacher and she said that they had had, I don't remember how many families that day and that they'd had to turn people away.
Six year old Katherine Grissett, better known as Ka Ka, overheard that conversation. She remembers how she felt.
KaKa; Sad. I wanted to help and put more food in the food pantry.
Jessica Grissett, KaKa's Mom; She said, Mom, we've got to go shopping. We've got to get some food.
And I said, But you need to think of a way that you can raise money so we can buy even more food.
Little Miss Ka Ka didn't have to think too long. That same night, she decided to use the one gift she has to provide gifts for others. Ka Ka is a budding young artist so she launched into creating works for sale.
Katherine "Ka Ka" Grissett, Charitable Artist; My first one it was a picture of my whole family standing outside and the stars and the moon.
Who did I see them too? Uh Huh. Well, the first one I sold to my daddy and then I sold to my grandmother.
Mom; Aunts, uncles. And the people where I work.
Oh, they thought it was wonderful, so sweet. Everybody wanted one.
Rev.Greg McBride, Bellview Baptist Church; You don't think that children would be so moved by the needs around us.
One of the things we try to teach is caring for your neighbor.
It wasn't long before the pictures for the pantry project was bearing fruit.
Ka Ka; Pennies, nickles, dollars.
Ka Ka's first sales netted $38 and she went shopping.
KKa; I buyed tuna, tuna helpers. ... Vegetables.
If only by watching their examples, feeding the hungry who come in their doors, it appears Ka Ka has learned the lessons they try to teach at Bellview Baptist Day Care.
Rev. McBride; We do try to instill Christian values and benevolence in our children and caring for your neighbor but...
I probably would have to attribute that more to parents than necessarily what we do here.
Mom; I don't know what made her think that she needed to do something, but I'm glad that she did.
Ka Ka is still producing her art and raising money to stock the pantry. As for how sales are going and how many pieces she's sold...
Ka Ka; Every one of them.
