ANGELS IN OUR MIDST

WEAR ABC 3 :: Angels In Our Midst (Angel Art)
FAIRHOPE, AL - It would be a fundraiser to help provide care for sick and dying children.

Fairhope's Eastern Shore Art Center would host the event but they needed artists to make the show a success.

The organizers were "Calling All Angels"....and they came....from everywhere.

Angels....Everywhere you look....Angels....

Meagan Daves, 10 year old Angel artist; Sometimes when you stumble and you try to get back up...

Through the eyes of a child...

Meagan; Someone comes along and helps you like an Angel or a friend.

Through the eyes of those with a heart for children...

Kim Cajacob, Angel Artist; Since I had this medical retirement, I can't work in the classroom. So, this is an extension of my love for kids.

While deeply personal, the exhibit is a united effort to raise money for a special children's program at Mercy Medical Hospital. They provide compassionate care to the little ones the angels may call home much too soon.

Donna Wilhelm, Mercy Medical Public Relations; We've been able to care for all of the children who've been referred to Mercy's pediatric home care or hospice. All of these children were either critically or terminally ill.

These walls of the art center hold a virtual storyboard. The artists drew from their personal connections and experiences.

Meagan Daves, Angel Artist; When I thought of angels, I thought of my grandmother, Reen. As you can see, the wings are made of hydrangea. She loved to garden.

Kim Cajacob, a former elementary school teacher, had to leave the classroom to fight a second battle with brain cancer. It has taken a portion of her hearing and some other abilities .

Kim; The Lord left my creativity side of my brain so I thank Him everyday.

Kim shows her gratitude for that gift with her own section of the exhibit.

Kim; He's Chief Eagle Eye and he's watching over his people and making sure everything stays good.

There are tales of angels in unlikely places. Sculptor James Hood remembered Nancy Raia's story of trying to find courage as she walked into a hospital to see her mother for one the last times.

Nancy Raia, Eastern Shore Art Center; I watched this person sweeping the floor like he had done everyday that I walked past. And the hospital was spotless. And I stopped to thank him for what he did. And it lifted up his spirit.
And I was able to go in with a bright face. James told my story.

For the sake of the children, he was answering the call for angels.Angels In Our Midst (Angel Art)
