ANGELS IN OUR MIDST
First call for help is an information and referral service that connects people in need to agencies that can help.
Two years ago, when United Way Of Escambia County took over the service, Sally Trimble became their first volunteer.
It was a partnership well suite for an Angel in our midst.
Good morning. First Call for Help. How may I help you.
With a soft and friendly voice, Sally Trimble is answering a new calling these days. She was an episcopal priest when illness pulled her from the pulpit.
Sally Trimble, Answering the call for help; It was discovered that I had a brain tumor and I had three brain surgeries.
Lucie Wade, First Call for Help; She said, I really miss that part of the ministry; helping people. I said, Great, because we're recruiting volunteers right now.
Sally; I'll be happy to try to find some rental assistance for you.
It is only second nature for Sally to call upon divine intervention as she starts her shifts.
Lord make us instruments of your peace.
It is in giving that we receive.
Sally; Oh, I'm sorry...
Lucie; She really cares about people. She's very patient, she's kind.
Sally; It's wonderful to be able to help them assess what their needs are at the time. Sometimes they're not even sure, they have so many needs.
Sally takes the time and helps each person figure it out.
I think that you mentioned the need for some legal services. Let me give you the number for...
She listens with her heart. Sometimes it won't let her stop with just a referral.
Sally; Sometimes someone may be so distraught that they can't even make the calls themselves and so I do that sometimes.
I certainly understand and I'm glad you called.
These are people she will probably never meet face to face, still she treats them as if they were *friends in need.
Sally; Respecting the dignity of every human being. I think everyone deserves to be respected.
I think that's what helps people.
Thank you for calling First Call for Help. God bless.
