ANGELS IN OUR MIDST
PENSACOLA - She has always had a heart for domestic animals and usually a house full of them.
But, when miss beverly decided to do volunteer work, let's just say, she took a walk on the wild side.
One by one, beverly julien patiently cleans and nurtures the more than 100 injured squirrels at the wildlife sanctuary of northwest florida. And that's just part of her volunteer day.

"It's like, oh, I'll do the laundry. Here, let me do the dishes. Let me do the diets. I can make up the fox diet. I can make up the milk for this..."

"It's all good, it's all good. There's no work that is not helping. And that's it. It all helps so i'm happy to do it."
This time consuming and, quite frankly, often dirty work, isn't for everyone. Beverly may have seemed like an unlikely volunteer candidate herself.
"It is a calling; it's not for everyone.
She's not done animal care before. This was a totally different situation for her."
Sure, she has had pets all of her life; the dog and cat variety. Beverly's even done dog rescues. But now ...
"I love to clean the doves and take care of the doves. And baby possums are the most adorable things on earth. The crows are wonderful. The baby squirrels they are kind of a handful. Oh, is the deer behind me. Yes, there's a deer behind me."
And she's undaunted by it all.
"I'm a mom, I can handle anything. Yeah, if you've had kids or dogs, you can do anything."
"It just makes the day more pleasant and easier when you have folks like her."
It's folks like beverly julien who stay focused on where their hard work can lead.
"When I hear that one of these ... Animals has been released, that's so wonderful. That's what we're here for. We don't win them all but we win a lot of them."

Miss Beverly and all of her friends invite you to come for a visit this Saturday.
The wildlife sanctuary is hosting Wildfest 2010 with live entertainment, games, vendors, a bake sale.
They'd welcome your gifts of foods for the animals, liquid laundry soap, pine straw, Fabreeze, copy paper.
That's Saturday, 12 noon 'til 3:30 at 105 North S Street.
