ANGELS IN OUR MIDST
You ride the emotional tide and wander through the maze of health care, treatments and therapy.
Some parents don't make that journey alone, they're guided by the Angels in our Midst.
Whitney ; He was diagnosed with Hemifacial Microsomia.
He's faced several complications throughout life and is looking through a few surgeries in the near future.
Facial abnormalities, delayed speech, ruptured ear drums, difficulty walking ... A lot for Trent's mom, dad and big sister to handle. Healthy Start nurse Susan Michaels was there from the beginning.
Susan; Willfully and gladly.
Miss Susan was there with us from his weight loss, to his hospitalizations.
I don't know what we would have done without her.
Miss Susan understands the challenging requirements of the system.
Require you to go online to apply, require you fax documents, require you to call for interviews. I have clients who do not have telephones, they certainly don't have computers and internet access.
She makes those calls, sends those faxes... She makes things happen.
Susan; If you take the big picture and you break it down into manageable goals and pieces and you prioritize those ...
Just someone saying, You can do this and you're really good at it, makes all the difference.
And that is the difference in Susan Michaels. Whitney says her care and concern wasn't just for Trent.
She would never fails to ask, Well, how are you doing through this. How is it affecting your husband? How is it affecting Haley?
Susan always brings a coloring book or gift to make sure Haley feels "special" too.
She didn't have to do that it was just things that she knew Haley would enjoy doing.
To Miss Susan, she's just one of hundreds of Healthy Start nurses across the state who answer the call of community health.
That I have empowered them, empowered them to meet their children's needs, to be good parents.
It's just beyond what words can say.
Angels in our Midst is brought to you by Sacred Heart Children's Hospital.
