ANGELS IN OUR MIDST
PENSACOLA - The staff at a Pensacola business learned of the good works a nearby agency was doing.
They wanted to be good neighbors and help out but they didn't have a lot of money to donate.
What they did have, was time and talent.
Studio Twenty-8 sits right next door to the Children's Home Society office. The staff at the upscale salon learned that the agency recruits Foster parents for children in crisis.
Pat Jolly, Studio Twenty-8 Owner; These people take responsibility again for somebody else's children after they've already raised theirs and they're gone. I think that takes a big responsibility and a big heart to do that.
Pat Jolly had no trouble getting her co-workers to give up their day off to give makeovers to the children these Foster parents care for who've been abused, neglected or abandoned.
Oh, you are going to be so adorable.
There are cuts, and styles, makeup tips and manicures....
Robin Laitman, Esthetician; I've never had any children of my own. And I just adore children and so this gives me a chance to work with them and see them smile and have a good time. Like, Isiah, he just melts your heart, you know.
Rodney; I just hope they feel special.
Pat; I hope for the older girl, I hope to give them, to instill in them...that they're beautiful and...to love themselves.
We can't show you the children's faces but you can believe they were in awe over the attention they were getting.
And it wasn't just the children who would go away with smiles and a new look....
Robin; Also, let's give back to the people that care for these young people. Let's give them hair cuts, let's give them a special day.
Of course, that would make their "working" day off a little longer... But it didn't matter. They feel like these Foster parents give a whole lot more.
Amanda Spargo, Cosmetologist; I'll feel good. I'll feel like I did something real good for other people.
Rodney Kehl, Studio Twenty-8 Co-owner; I think we all like to have a pat on the back once in a while and be told we've done a good job. And I hope that happens today.
Cheryl Null, Foster Parent; Oh, I think it's great. Give these little guys a hair cut and do it to us. Makes me feel good.
And they're good. They done a good job see.
