Keeping your summer energy bill down

Updated: Tuesday, July 8 2014, 06:05 AM CDT
Summer is here and people are struggling with their energy bills.

The Department of Energy has some tips to keep those bills low.

They say keep things like lamps, televisions, and washers and dryers away from the thermostat.

They say they give off heat and can trigger your air conditioning unit to turn on when it's not needed.

Experts also suggest you avoid using an oven and grill outdoors.

When taking a shower or bath, try to run the fan to help clear out the heat and humidity.
