Florida forced to delay school and health care payments

Updated: Tuesday, July 8 2014, 10:34 PM CDT
The state of Florida has been forced to stagger payments to schools and health care providers.
That's because the state's accounting system can not process a billion dollars or more in a single 24 hour period.

The state hit the daily limit in the wake of changes to Florida's medicaid program.
Payments to school districts were delayed by one day in late June.

The Department of Education said it wasn't a big deal and that school districts were able to handle the delay.
Now, the Department of Financial Services has asked agencies to warn them ahead of time of any pending payments of more than five million dollars.
