F-35 fleet resumes limited basis

Updated: Wednesday, July 16 2014, 05:41 AM CDT
Flights of the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter can resume on a limited basis at Eglin Air Force Base.

The Defense Department grounded all variants last month, after a pre-flight fire at Eglin Air Force Base.

Investigators determined the cause to be excessive rubbing of engine blades.
Last night, the U.S. Navy and Air Force approved a return to flight.

But there are some precautionary measures.
Including an engine inspection regimen and a restricted flight envelope.

The Pentagon has canceled the F-35's appearance at the "Farnborough International Airshow" in England.

They say the precautionary measures would make it difficult for the fighter to fly across the Atlantic for the air show.
