Florida's Dept. of Children and Families is reviewing child fatalities due to abuse and neglect where DCF had prior involvement. An independent organization, Casey Family Programs, reviewed 40 cases at no charge to the state. The report analyzes the causes of death and makes recommendations for improving DCF procedures.

ECUA is averaging more than 80 overflows per year in thelast five years, with a high of 94 in 2009. Some are caused by old pipes, others by digging. Rebuild Northwest Florida is a non-profit organization founded after Hurricane Ivan in 2004. They help people strengthen their homes to protect them from storm damage. Through grants and donations, they are able to cover 75% of the cost, with the homeowners responsible for the remaining 25%.
