New Flu vaccine

Updated: Sunday, January 20 2013, 04:15 PM EST
There's a new defense against the flu.
The FDA has approved a new flu vaccine that's made without  eggs or the influenza virus

The vaccine  - called "Flublok"  - has been approved for 18 to 49 years old to help prevent seasonal flu.
The agency says the vaccine was created using DNA technology and an insect virus.
The FDA says the new technology offers the potential for faster start-up of the vaccine manufacturing process in the event of a pandemic.

In a clinical trial, Flublok was about 44.6 percent effective against all
influenza strains, not just the three contained in the vaccine.
