Local day cares taking extra precautions during flu season

Updated: Tuesday, January 15 2013, 11:56 AM EST
Flu season is in full swing and some of the most vulnerable to the virus are children.

Day cares like Trinity Learning Center are taking special precautions to shield little ones from the flu going around. People coming in and out of the day care have to use hand sanitizer, just some of the health policy they're taking to protect from the flu.

4 and 5 years olds can be found touching, sharing and playing with anything. With it comes the potential to spread germs and disease. For that reason, anytime a child puts a toy in his or her mouth, it goes into a dirty toy bucket. All the toys get washed in a high powered washer at the end of the day.

Teachers also emphasize the importance of hand washing with special scheduled sessions. Little things that help keep mothers confident their child will stay healthy at the end of the day.

While the daycare can't force parents and students to get the flu shots, it is strongly recommended.

So far two kids from the daycare have gotten the flu, but both stayed home.
