SCAM ALERT: Business scam 'almost' believable

FORT WALTON BEACH -- A business owner in Fort Walton Beach is sending out a scam alert.
She says a letter from Tallahassee almost fooled her into writing a check.
The letter is from a company called "Compliance Services".
It refers to an "annual minutes requirement", and tells the recipient to submit a fee of $125.
Nikki Lyons of Artesano Jewels says she's gotten official-looking letters before, that turned out to be scams.
What made this one different was the return address, on Capital Circle in Tallahassee.
"Before, I'd gotten letters in the mail saying I needed to remit paperwork and money, but it was always to California, which I knew California wasn't worried about my Florida business"
The Better Business Bureau put out a scam alert on Compliance Services in 2010.
A rep says it's not unusual for scams to disappear and resurface later.
Florida's Attorney General has said there's no requirement for companies to submit their annual minutes to any outside agency, including the state.
And certainly not to pay money to do it.
